    46. Shrimp Mei Fun

I ordered shrimp mei fun only to open my box and see 3 lil bitty shrimp. I called restaurant to let them know only for them to argue me down and say "WE PUT 5 SHRIMP" awful customer service!! There is no reason for this. I gave this place one last try but now I'm done!!! Shouldn't have ti argue about something that I spent my money on!

You should not be guilt tripped if you do not like the food. Ive been eating at this place for years and normally get their shrimp fried rice. However, tonight I decided to try something new. I've been craving fried seafood lately and noticed fried shrimp on their menu. The menu didn't have any pictures so I assumed it would be fried like any other shrimp in the area. Incorrect. The breading was VERY thick and bland (pictured below). I immediately asked the cashier about their refund policy. He went back and forth with me on why I didn't like the shrimp before offering to make a different shrimp that he assured would be similar to what I described to him (pictured below). He brings out a different varient of shrimp, I tried it. The shrimp was fried too long and still contained too much flavorless breading. I kindly let him know I didn't like it either and would like to just get the original refund I was asking for. The lady from the kitchen area aggressively comes to the front frustratedly talking to the man about the situation. She then turns to me and asks if I've ever had shrimp before and then starts telling me how I'm wasting too much of her food. The man then attempts to hand me 75% of what I paid. I told them to keep the money and just left. I've seen these workers almost every time I've been to the business. Sadly, not even the regulars are treated well here. Side note: All of the first shrimp was returned uneaten before receiving the second varient. All but the one I tried of the second batch was returned before the tantrum.

General Tso's Chicken combo ($7.95 for all of this!)

Decided to resurrect an old Sunday tradition of ordering Chinese takeout today and decided on China King. We've eaten here a handful of times before but not since the pandemic started. We have always been pleased with the selection of items on the menu, the close proximity of the restaurant to our house, cleanliness of the restaurant and quality of food. Today was no exception. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by how safe I felt picking up my takeout in the wake of the pandemic. Everything is plexiglass'd in and there is absolutely no contact with the staff. Food was piping hot as always and the portion sizes were ample! Today, I had the General Tso's chicken combo which came with fried rice and an egg roll for $7.95. We also had a quart sized order of the vegetable lomein ($7.50) and it was delicious as well. They forgot my crab wontons but I'll cut them some slack because they're usually always on point. For less than $20, we have enough for more meals! Thanks for being consistent and making your customers feel safe, China King!

I had no idea. Corks was owned by the same people. One of my friends who works at Coy-Yon's in West Baton Rouge told me that I could still get that potato pretty easily on Government Street. I guess this is basically the same thing as our restaurant in Port Alan instead of barbecue, they specialize in fish and shrimp. I did get shrimp as my protein for the potato and it was delicious Definitely go, give it a shot. The server was very nice and friendly. Parking very simple. Interiors mostly white. They've got some art on the wall, looks like it's done locally. Most mostly of their other restaurant. If I had to complain and be picky, I would say take that Christmas tree down. I always find the tacky when restaurants or businesses leave their Christmas tree up all year. It's never the flex they think it is. But who cares. The food is good.

As soon as the hostess sat us down I noticed that the table were very close by each other which I don't like simply bc I could hear the next tables conversation and it was hard to have a conversation of my own. Other than that, the service was good. Our waiter was very nice and efficient and knew the menu like the back of his hand! I ordered the Dru Platter which was the choice of two items off the seafood platter and I got the friend shrimp and fish and it was pretty good. The shrimp were my favorite and it was fried and seasoned very well. For dessert I had the white chocolate bread pudding and it was very good! Very moist and not to sweet but just right! If I go again this would be something that I would definitely get! No if, ands, or buts about it! That bread pudding was a 10/10! Overall, I would rate this place. 6/10!

We were in Baton Rouge helping our grandson move into his dorm as an incoming freshman at LSU, and Parrain's kept coming up in our searches and reviews. We decided to give it a try, and I'm SO glad we did! We visited on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., and when I tell you EVERYBODY and their family was there... I mean everybody! The parking lot was packed. There is plenty of parking, but there were so many people that we still had to hunt for a spot. Thankfully, we found one under a shade tree because it was HOT! When we walked up, we fully expected a long wait. There is plenty of outdoor seating for people waiting, and I also noticed they have both steps and an accessibility ramp leading to the entrance. My daughter and I sat down while my husband stood in line to put our name on the list. About five minutes later, he was waving for us to come inside! Apparently, many of the people waiting were large groups and families coming from church, but since there were only three of us, they were able to seat us almost immediately. HUGE plus! Once inside, it was BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. It took our server a little while to initially get to us, but considering how packed the restaurant was, it really wasn't bad at all. Our waitress was very nice, and I was actually impressed with how quickly our food came out. Now let's talk about the FOOD!! We first ordered the onion rings for an appetizer... super delicious I ordered the fried shrimp platter, and those shrimp were fried to PERFECTION! Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The meal also came with salad, fries, hush puppies, and a side. The hush puppies were SO GOOD! They are shaped almost like little donut holes... crispy on the outside and soft and savory on the inside. Delicious! For my side, I chose the fresh green beans instead of the dirty rice. Unfortunately, those were the one thing I didn't enjoy. They didn't have much flavor to me and seemed a little undercooked. Next time, I'll definitely choose another side. My husband ordered the fried catfish platter with dirty rice, coleslaw, and fries, and he loved everything. I tasted his coleslaw, and OH MY GOODNESS! Get the coleslaw! It was different from any coleslaw I've had before. It has whole peanuts in it, which sounds unusual, but somehow it WORKS! The peanuts add this wonderful crunch and flavor. It was SO good. And the French fries!! I've never seen fries cut this way before. They're almost shaped like little Scoop Fritos, with a crispy outside and soft potato inside. So unique and really good! My daughter ordered the catfish strips and fries from the kids' menu. These weren't processed little nuggets... they were actual pieces of catfish cut into strips, and she really enjoyed them. She also ordered the crab fingers, and those were another 10/10! They were incredibly well-seasoned with a little spice and tons of flavor. I tasted one and wanted MORE! I'm watching my sodium intake, so I behaved myself, but they were absolutely delicious. Overall, Parrain's was a 10/10 for us. The only thing I wouldn't personally order again would be the green beans. Everything else, from the shrimp and catfish to those amazing hush puppies, unique fries, crab fingers, and especially that coleslaw, was DELICIOUS. Yes, it was crowded and lively, but we still received really good service and didn't have to wait nearly as long as we expected. With our grandson now attending LSU, we'll be making plenty of trips back to Baton Rouge, and Parrain's has officially made our list of places we will be visiting again!

She came across as short, unfriendly, and overall not very pleasant. I first ordered a Banana Foster's Martini, but she came back and said they didn't have the ingredients. No problem--I asked for an Espresso Martini instead. A few minutes later, after bringing everyone else's drinks, she returned and simply said they couldn't make that either and asked if I wanted something else. At that point, I just declined. When it was time to order, our table had nine people. She took my husband's order, then went around the table taking everyone else's order. By the time she got back to me, she said, "Okay, is that it?" I had to remind her that she hadn't taken my order yet. I ordered the crab and corn bisque, a salad, and the stuffed catfish with creamed spinach. The salad came out quickly and was very good. Then everyone else at the table received their meals while I only received my bisque. After waiting, I was told my stuffed catfish "didn't come out right" and had to be remade. At that point, I honestly wondered if it was a joke. It wasn't. By the time my entrée arrived, everyone else was nearly finished eating. To the restaurant's credit, they did remove the stuffed catfish from my bill, and I appreciated that. However, the entire experience left me feeling overlooked from start to finish. My biggest suggestion would be for our waitress to work on her customer service. A smile goes a long way. Saying things like "Give me that plate," slamming cups onto the table, and appearing annoyed throughout the meal doesn't create a welcoming dining experience. Hospitality is just as important as the food, and I hope this feedback is taken constructively.
