I am on a work trip for 2 weeks and I'm trying something new each night. China King had a stuck door at entry. Looks like it would take very little to fix it. The order window had glass in front of it (probably from Covid days). The young person behind the glass was speaking thru the microphone, they took my order. I was told 10 minutes, so I made some calls while I waited. When I got back to my hotel room I had my sweet & sour chicken with fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was superb! The sweet & sour chicken was ok. The pieces of chicken were stringy and unedible .The rice was fine. $11 for this was a bummer. read more

This used to be my favorite Chinese spot in the valley. The last few times I have been there I have been so disappointed. The food has become flavorless and the crab rangoons have little to no filling at all and are hard like they have been sitting out for awhile. The pic included had the most filling. I thought maybe the last time I went they were just having a bad day and decided to give it one last try and was once again disappointed. I will be taking the extra time to go to Timberville or Woodstock the next time I am craving Chinese. read more

China King is the only Chinese joint for many miles if you are in Mount Jackson/Basye/Bryce Mountain area. It's in the same shopping center as the Food Lion. It's a very small place - with eight or so tables if you want to eat in. I ordered Kung Pao chicken - extra spicy and an order of Egg rolls - to eat in. While I was waiting - a lot of folks came in to pick up "to go" orders. When my food was brought out, I was disappointed to see that it was the more "Americanized" version of Kung Pao chicken - lots and lots of celery, zucchini, and bell pepper - plus some chicken and peanuts. The style I was hoping for is mostly chicken - with peanuts, scallions, and red chilies. The Kung Pao chicken was very average. And not very spicy - considering I ordered it extra spicy. The egg rolls, however, were excellent! Crispy and hot, not greasy, and large with lots of tasty fillings! I added some of the pre-packaged "Chinese" mustard (I asked if they had a "House" Chinese mustard - they did not). The egg rolls are what dragged this up to a 3 star rating. I'd probably come here again and try something other than the Kung Pao chicken. $7.00 minimum for credit card orders. read more

Been here three times, got the healthy shrimp, scallops and chix with steamed veg and rice. All very bright and fresh, gets cold fast though. Filled up with a large Hot & Sour soup, this was a bit above average, no pork shreds, had the usual (and wrong) red pepper flakes. Above average for strip mall Chinese food! I had Szechuan style pork. That and the hot and sour soup had a very mild spice to it - what I'd expect in Virginia ...where the couple across from us could not finish theirs because it was "too spicy". Ah, Virginia. Excellent food, prices and service. Everything on the menu is delicious and fresh. They even offer a special diet menu for those that are on sodium or other restrictive diets. On the road in search of my favorite Chinese Food. The Barbecue Pork was so close to what I remember from back east. General Tao chicken made with white meat not dry sauce flavorful. Other dish was ribs and rice. Ribs moist and flavorful also w rice. The egg rolls fell short the cabbage overcooked or maybe sat around too long. As for hot tea it sits out in a dispenser that keeps it warm- it was terrible. Dining in is not a treat it's more geared to take out but the food is what makes the deal. Prices are also reasonable. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised to find a Chinese restaurant when we moved to the area, but were equally skeptical about what the quality would be. We were pleasantly surprised! It is typical cheap Chinese (which sometimes hits the spot!). Nothing was remarkably better than we've had before, but nothing was at all disappointing. The highlight for me was the egg roll - not too greasy and it was delicious! We have also tried the General Tso's chicken, lo mein, and orange chicken - all were very good.
