Our normal go-to was closed today so we decided to give China King a try. I ordered the hot and sour soup and a vegetable lo mein. My fiancé got two egg rolls and the shredded beef with spicy sauce. I really enjoyed the hot and sour soup. It was actually spicy, unlike most other places I've tried. It also had a nice consistency and wasn't a goopy jello texture. The vegetable lo mein was bland, at first bite. I doctored it up with some oyster sauce and soy sauce though and was good to go. I hear the egg rolls were really good and the shredded beef was decent. I'd def get the soup again and would maybe try some chow mein or something else next time. We ordered for pickup and the food was ready in about ten minutes. The employees were friendly on the phone as well as in person. The prices were pretty good too. Amazing service and hospitality. Very clean environment and spacious. Honestly would consider this kid friendly. The food was AMAZING. Hot, fresh, affordable, plentiful, and flavorful. The orders come out quick so this is definitely the spot to go to for quick last minute dinner or coming home for work. Parking lot has plenty of spaces and the location is easy to find. They accept card and cash but I'm unsure if they accept apple/samsung pay. I definitely think this is my new spot. This is my favorite place to order Chinese food. No MSG in their food! The first time I ordered from here I requested MSG to not be added in my food and they told me they don't use it and I've never had heartburn after eating food from here. I love to order chicken and broccoli and pancit from here. It is always good and hot upon arrival. During COVID-19 one can appreciate that they have taken every precaution by closing off their dining area to keep things safe. I like that they offer take out or delivery. I am very picky about my Chinese food and tend to judge the overall quality based on the taste, spices and ingredients used in the Hot & Sour soup. Most places do not make their soup spicy and the consistency is like semi-firm jello. China King's soup is sufficiently spicy & sour, has a great consistency and a great taste! Most of their other menu items are fresh and very good flavor. If their House Special Chow Mei Fun had flavor (very bland) and if the chicken on the Chicken Teriaki skewers was marinated or something (tastes like chicken with teriaki sauce added after cooking), I would definitely make this 5-stars. These deficiencies still do not stop us from ordering other items and sometimes even still selecting the 2 items listed above. One thing that definitely makes China King stand out is the ability to place an order online and also select pay now or pay at pickup! read more

Uuugh. Finding Chinese food that delivers to my neighborhood is almost impossible but China King does so we tried them. At first I loved them. Easy phone order transaction, ie: they understood me and I understood them. They got here is less than 30 minutes. My Kung Pao chicken with extra celery and Hubs General Tso were tasty, as well as the crab rangoon. The second time the same and I was excited.... But only for a moment because apparently their service is not this consistent. Last time, It took TENFUCKINGMINUTES to order because the guy could not understand anything I was saying on the phone AND THEN it took 90 minutes for delivery. What the shit? NINETY minutes? It wasn't New Years Eve. At this point I'm pissed and famished, then the guy got pissed at his 3 dollar tip. You know what, he didn't even deserve it so F him. Our order was totally screwed up and cold. Blasphemy. Usually one of my favorite places for take out but tonight it was horrible! When I called to place my order tonight the girl that answered has no clue what she was doing or about the menu...I has to remind her I was supposed to pay. Then I was told it would be 20-30 minutes for my order to arrive. An hour later I get my food and the Mongolian beef and it is a soupy, sweet, nasty mess. Tried to call back to get a new order and was told "next order full refund". I asked them to charge me for everything but the Mongolian Beef but that was a no go. So after I couldn't get a refund or new food had my husband call back, he was hung up on 7 times but eventually they say they are crediting my card for the nasty food. I usually don't spend the time to write a review unless I was particularly impressed with a restaurant's service or food. With that being said I'll try not to be too harsh with this review of China King. I've eaten a lot of Chinese food and have a pretty good idea of what most dishes should look and taste like. We ordered takeout Seafood Lo Mein, Szechuan Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, Hot and Sour Soup, and Crab Rangoon. Every dish was off except for the Hot and Sour Soup, which was just about average. The Crab Rangoon was hard on the edges and gooey in the middle. The chicken in both chicken dishes had a very strange consistency, it tasted like frozen chicken cooked in a microwave. All of the dishes were very bland. The fried rice was very greasy and the Szechuan Chicken sauce was way too thick, almost jelly like. I was the most disappointed with the Seafood Lo Mein. I've had almost every type of Lo Mein out there, from all over the world. This Lo Mein has no flavor at all, the noodles were kind of mushy and the seafood all tasted off, sort of like bad imitation crab and lobster. I can see one dish being off, but all of them? None of us were able to eat more than a quarter of our meal. This was the first time I tried this restaurant, but will not be going back. Sitting outside my house for the last hour waiting, but the driver must have slipped by. Then I was told I needed to understand that the driver had a lot of deliveries to make. No apology, not even an acknowledgement that 2 hours for delivery was excessive. Ended up making PB&J sandwiches for hungry kids. The food is decent. Tastes like any other Chinese food. The quality of food has gone down as season approaches in Virginia Beach. You can see this in increased prices, and in the case of China King, reduced quality in preparation of the food. Very disappointed as a resident. Sweet/sour soup watered down, virtually tasteless, spicy shrimp (very scarce with little vegetables and significant rice to fill the container). The food was so delicious. I ordered chicken with broccoli and they were happy to substitute the pork fried rice with chicken, unlike most places they would charge you extra. I've been ordering here since it opened. I live about 1 mile from the place, so it's very convenient. I usually call OR place my order on line. In the past however many years, when I order for lunch, I ask for an egg roll instead of a soda (the soda comes with the lunch meals). I don't drink soda, so I've always (and I mean ALWAYS) ask for an egg roll and it's never been a problem. However, the last time I ordered, I went inside to place my order. There was a 'new girl' at the counter, one I haven't ever seen. I ask her if I can substitute and egg roll for the soda and she said no. I said, "What? I've been doing this forever, and it's never been a problem." She said, "No." I couldn't believe it. I got a bottle of water instead. That was the LAST TIME I will order from here. The food is your typical fast food Chinese take out; nothing special.
