Gave this place a try recently when the wait at Three Happiness was quoted at over 2 hours. Should have just waited or got something other than Chinese. I tried the General's Tofu. It consisted of huge chunks of tofu and broccoli that was much past its prime and no other veggies. The tofu pieces were so big that it didn't really cook and was hard to eat. The broccoli seemed like it had been marinated in vinegar which didn't taste great. All in all I would not try this place again. read more

Honestly I don't know what was served to me. Ordered Kung Pao chicken. It was like no other than I have ever had, authentic or Americanized. China Palace has been around this area for at least 20-something years back when there was a Hollywood Video & Albertson's-Osco supermarket on the left of it. For some reason after all of that time I never really tried it until just recently. We got Chinese takeout from here and they gave us a pretty hefty quantity of food. A little more pricier than other Chinese food expresses but I would say that its worth it in a way, especially with how much food you're given. The quality of the food is very good as well - maybe a little too good with certain foods like their egg rolls, and why I say that is because some of the food is a bit rich so if your stomach is sensitive you might get a temporary stomachache. But if you're able to handle the richness of the food, I would definitely recommend this place. I'll probably go here again sometime in the future. read more

This is my favorite Chinese in my neighborhood. It has gotten pretty popular in the last 3 years we've lived here. It's always busy or there are always takeouts waiting to be picked up. They have delivery now too! Any time we place an order, whether carry out or eating in house, food takes only 15 minutes. It's a great place to get something quick. This place always satisfies our Chinese cravings. We've had a lot on the menu and so far we've liked everything we've tried except the dumplings. Crab Rangoon is pretty good which we always add to our entrees. Take out portions are HUGE. We always have leftovers. Eating at the restaurant is not bad either. They give you hot tea (you might need an acquired taste for it thou). If I had to change one thing is would be the egg drop soup. It's really sweet and not the flavor I am use to from other ones I have tasted. You should really try this place out if you haven't! read more

To say that I love Chinese food is like saying that Dick Cheney likes to kills puppies and that winter weather in Omaha sucks only a little bit. I've never actually had bad Chinese food in my life. Until last Sunday, when we stopped into China Palace, that is. 90% of the Chinese restaurants in Omaha are closed on Sunday, which is unfortunate for the restaurants. While I crave Chinese food 7 days a week, something about Sunday makes me want to eat copious amounts of it and never stop. China Palace is open on Sundays and is close to where I live. I now realize that those two qualifications should never be the deciding factors about where to eat. My mother always tried to teach me to say something nice before you criticize something, but I can't think of anything good to say. As I mentioned, the food was barely edible. I had the asparagus chicken, and the only parts of asparagus were the hard, stalky parts that I cut off when I prepare asparagus. The service was terrible, and I am not a demanding guy, particularly on a Sunday. Our server actually sat down at a table and ate his own lunch while I waited for our check. I rarely give 1 star reviews, but China Palace earned it. read more

I hate to be so negative, but this was the worst Chinese food I've had in probably two decades. We ordered two dishes: Buddhas Delight and Ma Po Bean Curd. They both had this pinkish/reddish hue. Yes, the portions were substantial, but we both threw out two-thirds of both meals because they were just awful and wrong in so many ways. I can only presume they mix in that cheap, red sweet/sour sauce into their brown sauce. Disgusting. Ma Po Bean Curd is supposed to be spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all. And it was overloaded w/veggies like carrots and water chestnuts(!?). These vegetables NEVER belong in Ma Po Dofu. And the pork was cut in in big chunks; wrong again. Look at any picture of Ma Po Dofu (Bean Curd) on the net and you'll see what it's supposed to look like. Also, we ordered a hot/sour soup, and it was SWEET and sour. Again... disgusting. If you truly enjoy delicious Chinese, please don't make the same mistake we did. Canton House, Hiro or Gold Mountain leaves this place in the dust. read more

I recently moved to Omaha from Seattle and was craving chicken teriyaki. Japanese food is a staple where I'm from with teriyaki joints on nearly every corner. After seeing a handful of good reviews and noticing teriyaki chicken was an option on China Palace's menu, I decided to give them a try. Worst idea yet, had I took into consideration that Omaha doesn't have an ethnic food background like Seattle, I probably would have just cooked it at home myself. My friend and I each got an order to go and we couldn't wait to get home and dive in- so much so that we didn't even sit down first. Standing at the island in my kitchen I took my first bite, and instantly turned right around to spit it into the sink! This meat wasn't even edible and I highly doubt it was chicken. For all I know this could have been rat meat, it tasted an AWEFUL lot like cat food, even being somewhat chalky and it was overly rubbery. I still don't understand how something can have both those textures going on. Oh, and the sauce? Far from even tasting like a traditional teriyaki sauce and it's fine that they skimped on it, because it probably wouldn't have made this dish taste any better. After that first bite I was even turned off from eating the rice. As my friend watched in disgust, he was hesitant on trying the teriyaki for himself...however he did. It ended up right back into the box. We both ended up throwing the meals away, and it was a complete waste of $18.00. The "Chinese" dishes at this establishment might be better, but I don't think I'll be back to give them a second try. They really should just take the teriyaki off their menu. I know were in the middle of the country, but oh how I wish Omaha was more culturally diverse and we had better options for Asian cuisine. Guess I'll be sticking to over Americanized Panda Express or HyVee. If I could give no stars, I would. However, the woman that took our order and rang us up was extremely friendly and pleasant. If she's the owner, I hope for their sake and business they figure out how to make a better meal. read more

I have been eating here for over 10 years. It seems like it is locked in some kind of time warp where nothing changes. That can be good. That can be bad. The good is the food is consistent. My favorite is the Mongolian beef with the sweet, red sauce. The dish is prepared with good, tender beef, scallions and onions. There is more beef than veggies. We usually order the fried wontons with seasoned pork filling. I love these. We have also had the crab Rangoon and several of the soups. Again, all served hot and in good size portions. My husband likes the Kung Pao chicken. My kids order the chicken fried rice and Imperial chicken. All are large portions. The inevitable leftovers are rarely left by dawn the next morning. The table service is excellent! Our server even remembers what I order, right down to the hot mustard for the fried wontons! The place does a very active carry out service too. There is always a very steady stream of people in and out. The guy who takes the orders tells everyone 10-15 minutes. But if you walk in and order, you have it in less than 10. Again, time ceases to be here. The bad is time ceases here. The decor from the walls, dishes, menus and placemats have not changed one iota since I have started coming here. If you are looking for ambiance, go somewhere else. If you just want good food in large portions for a good price delivered fast and friendly, go here. Best Chicken Lo Mein in the city IMO... I order it spicy! This place is right near my house, as well as competing local favorite Rice Bowl. China Palace is worth the trip in the car, or the slightly longer walk for me. TO GO, or dine in are both great ways to try this place. TO GO is fast & always ready to go & the staff have always been super nice, attentive, & great! Portions are fantastic, when both my G/F & I are in agreeance with what we hunger for we have been known to split an entree and just pick up some soup &/or an appetizer For Appetizers we think the Wanton soup, the Dumplings, & Beef Teriyaki are our fav's, and when you get the Teriyaki when you dine in, they bring out a little pot of fire for you to roast the meat on. In my book, that ranks pretty high =] Chicken Lo Mein is my go to dish for testing out a new place, & while most others in Omaha fail, China Palace rises above and shines through the crappy ghetto strip mall that traps it within. A diamond in the rough... I've also tried the RED Mongolian Beef that people have talked about on here. I thought it was really good! Finally a Chinese restaurant that serves food that can be compared to the ones back home. I thought I had to fly home every time I wanted Chinese food. Maybe I can go to China Palace from now on. Now, it still doesn't serve the regional cuisine I love best but I have been told that it's impossible in the Midwest. I have had better Chinese food in the South than here. Anyway, it's a very pleasant restaurant with excellent service. Most dishes were "Chinese American" in style but if you ask the right person the right question they can tweak things for you. Forget about "authentic Chinese food." There is no such thing. Every family tweaks their recipes. Besides, crab rangoon is "standard" Chinese American food, not "authentic" Chinese food. Growing up, I didn't know too many people who could tolerate cheese, let alone using them in a dish. It's like fortune cookies. Don't get me wrong. I like Chinese American food as much as I like regional Chinese food. I just don't believe that you should judge a Chinese restaurant based on how "authentic" it is. Our favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant, and one of the best in the City. They pride themselves in using fresh ingredients and they consistently serve up delicious dishes like Tangerine Chicken, Egg Fu Yung, and just about anything else. Don't forget to try the soups and appetizers, too. If you like Egg Rolls, you honestly won't find a better one than here in the whole area. I am an egg roll nut and end up going there and just buy a bunch to take home and put in the freezer. The best cheap-Chinese takeout place in Omaha! Their egg rolls are far superior to other places, crisp but also chewy wrapper while being fat with tasty filling. The portions are really big even for Chinese food, which I think the portions are always big. The sweet and sour pork is served with the sauce on the side, which I much prefer, so your food doesn't get soggy while you take it home. The Kung Pao chicken comes smothered in a thick dark gravy that smells like instant beef gravy. The chicken on the Kung Pao is large Chicken chunks that are THICKLY breaded and deep fried. Odd and gross. Kung Pao chicken should NOT be breaded, especially not thickly. This was breaded thickly as if they use the same chicken in the Kung Pao that they would use for Sweet and Sour Chicken. Disgusting. This dish did not look, smell or taste like Kung Pao. It was also not the least bit spicy. Also, this restaurant does not seem very clean. Bathrooms were filthy with what looked like possible mold growing out of some type of vent on the wall in the handicap stall. The hole in the wall had tape over it, but dust/dirt/mold was all over the wall. Air conditioning was blowing on me, and it was cold outside, and I was freezing. I told the waitress about the cold air, and she told me to move to the next booth instead of offering to turn the AC down (or better yet off, it was drizzly and cold outside). Then she walked away. She didn't even offer to help me move all of my stuff, even though my meal had just arrived, and I had several items to move by myself including teapot, meal, silverware, water, dishes, etc. Even when I first walked into the restaurant, I had to stand there for quite some time before someone came out of the kitchen to seat me. This Sunday my family went to China Palace on Saddle Creek for lunch and were treated horribly. Understandably, there was a misunderstanding because of the language barrier, but what happened after was unacceptable. The waiter/manager placed the wrong order and when my mother tried to explain the misunderstanding, he began to mock and ridicule my parents. He told them they didn't know English and should learn. My family has been to this restaurant several times and have order the same meal. We have never had any issues with any of the wait staff, until the manager was the one attending the table. In addition, another family accompanied my parents. The man's aggressive tone and gestures frightened one of the little girls so much that she almost began to cry and begged her parents to leave. My father tried to reason with the manager to lower his tone, but the manager continued to showcase my parents to the restaurant. Finally, my dad asked for the check, paid for the food, and left. No one should be treated with this kind of disrespect. I wanted to share my parents' story because we need to be aware that hate and discrimination still exist EVERYWHERE. We cannot be intolerant or passive. You don't need to act with violence, but remember to stand with those who are being mistreated. Not one person said anything to the manager. We want to stop this mistreatment and it's easier to stand together than divided. Let's remember to love one another and treat each other with compassion, kindness, and respect. read more

Having never had SWEET egg drop soup before... well, I'm somewhat at a loss for words. Liberal doses of soy sauce can't seem to knock it back to a familiar flavor. Should have had the hot and sour soup instead. Hope my entree is less, well, unique... ...and wow, I think I've got the chef figured out: sugar, and a lot of it. More at least than I've ever had in any Chinese food. I had the (Candied) Three Delicacies. (I know this isn't "Omaha style" as I've enjoyed non-sweet Chinese elsewhere.) Service was quick, and the food was served hot. Young children would probably love this place. If I were to return, I'd request "no sugar" and hope for the best. While I was enjoying my hot tea after dinner, I saw a family arrive -- regulars, judging by the familiar greeting they received, and the speed with which they ordered. Who am I to argue? Almost a year since my last visit; when I lived in the neighborhood about 15 years ago, this was a place I frequented at least once a year. Went with two friends for lunch and found the food consistently great...hot and freshly-prepared, as always. Service was prompt and efficient; we were asked if our orders arrived as ordered, definitely! The luncheon menu has a lovely variety, and there are items appropriate for most dietary preferences. What I like about China Palace, when one walks in, it does NOT smell of oil and garlic like I find at other Asian restaurants. Business was slow. But I've never been disappointed in food or service here. This is now one of my two favorite Asian restaurants in Omaha...the other being Taste of Asia on 78th Street between Dodge and Cass. Best Chinese Take Out/Eat In ever. Before COVID-19 the wait time honestly weren't bad at all. Since COVID-19 it has been longer but only for like 30 sec-1 min. They have awesome service and their food is just really good. And they give you a lot and are very sharp, professional, and can sometimes have an attitude but I don't think that really matters. For delivery they'll always meet your expectations and any challenges. And they somehow keep it hot and ready in their vehicle so you don't have to warm it up:).
