Excellent new addition to Island Park, NY. While most of the old school Chinese restaurants have disappeared and others have gone "fusion" we now have China Pavilion offering all those favorites you've been missing. Starting with soup dumplings is a must. House special fried rice is a winner as is their traditional Chow Fun. Shumai dumplings are wrapped in a very thin and tender noodle pocket. CHINA Pavilion is a very nice restaurant with a huge bar that takes up half the restaurant. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated, very light and airy. We tried various types of food to get a taste of the restaurant. Everything was very tasty. The soup dumplings were very good. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating. The Menu was not as extensive as I am used to for a chinese restaurant and the prices were on the high side. If you are looking for something a little different this is the place to try. read more

China Pavillion opened up in Island Park about a month ago. As soon as they opened their doors, the parking lot was packed every night. We went tonight, Friday night, around 7:45pm and just about every table was filled! We were seated promptly by the manager. We immediately received noodles with duck sauce, which was great. For apps we did the shrimp & chive dumplings - pretty bland. Cucumber salad - made with chili oil - spicy but good. Skip the salt and pepper calamari. For mains we did the honey glazed ribs - they were very fatty. The walnut prawns were delicious. And the veggie fried rice was good. It seemed like our waitress had almost every table in the dining room but was still very attentive. Definitely worth a try! read more

So happy to find a place that offers Canton and Szechuan options for Gluten free. Food was delicious and fresh. Honestly the best I've had in a long time. We're not celiac so can't attest to cross contamination or food prep practices for Celiac but for us being Gluten Free as a choice, we are very very pleased. Went for dinner at 5:15, we were the only patrons. Had an order of pork buns, one wonton soup, one hot and sour. We had Gen.Tsau chicken and roast pork fried rice. We asked for tea and was told they charge for that. WTF! The tab was 68.00 The food was ok but service so so. While sitting there 3 other tables got occupied. It seemed there was only one person working the floor.I left a 12.00 tip because I felt sorry for the waiter but won't be going back. The menu is limited. That's all I got. Updated review to re-verify that this spot is epic. I have been trying to order something new every time I eat here. Last night I ordered to popcorn chicken and imagine my surprise when I realized it was one of my favorite dishes in existence: chongqing la zi ji. I love spicy food, but I am not one of those people who gets macho about it and tries to see how many Scoville's I can handle. No. Spicy has to have a purpose. It has to be delicious. It cannot exist solely to make something spicy. If you are like me, you have to order the popcorn chicken. Half of the dish is chiles - you can eat around them, that is acceptable. It is a hot, numbing, slightly crispy, umami, scallion-y, peanuty chicken experience from another world. I would go to battle for this dish. Other must haves: Peking duck (it's some of the best I've had, although I prefer it with buns not pancakes) Hot and sour soup Szechuan wonton Honey glazed spare ribs Crispy flounder filet Soup dumplings (of course) Pork and bamboo shoots (not on the menu) The guy who works there (possibly the owner) is super nice, and that is a huge added bonus. read more

Tonight was my 3rd time visiting and each time it gets better. Tonight Jimmy the owner was in there and made some suggestions and the choices were all delicious. So on 8/12 at around 1:24 pm , I walked in to take out lunch. The place was empty. The server Kayla was friendly but admitted he was new and did not know the menu well. I ordered pork steamed dumplings, a General Tsos chicken lunch and a sesame chicken lunch and 2 veggie spring rolls. So I see this restaurant has some different items which is great but I was really looking forward to the traditional fried rice with egg/pork but this rice was plain and bland. They offer no egg rolls which was disappointing. The veggie rolls were very small with hardly no product in them. The pork dumplings were doughy. The sesame and general Tsos were bland and taste like the same chicken. A big disappointment for me was they offered no boneless spare ribs which are my favorite. I do not mind spending more if the food is better quality than your average take out place but unfortunately for a new restaurant with some higher prices, you would have an expectation that there would be more quality items with more flavoring. I do see this business is claimed by owner but there have been no responses to the other low ratings so I have to take that into consideration whether I will return or not. read more

Best chinese restaurant on the South Shore. Excellent soup dumplings, Peking duck (ask for it on buns] has the best beef chow fun anywhere and many other good dishes. Under rated and deserves a much higher rating. read more

Overrated... they need more people working... very slow service... Traditional Chinese/American dishes were good, specialty dishes, not so much... stick with the basics, go when it isn't crowded, bring tons of patience! read more

We had lunch today(Sunday) at this restaurant. There was only one other table occupied. Not surprising since I was beautiful out and this is on the way to Long Beach. It's in the old Pancho's Cantina so there is plenty of parking. The service was good and the server made sure everything was ok. The food was fresh tasting and there are some interesting offerings like a lobster roll wrapped in lettuce rather than bread. The food was all fresh tasting. We had Peking Duck which was delicious and General Tso's Chicken also delicious. We would recommend this restaurant. read more

I was looking forward to trying this restaurant. I was quite disappointed Hot and sour soup was only sour, no traces of heat. Soup buns were doughy and meat compressed, probably machine made, plus there was no soup in the bun. Waitress was nice, when we saw her. Service was very slow. Peking duck was so-so, I tasted the oil that the duck was cooked in, plus the temperature of the duck could have been higher. Roast Pork lo mein was lukewarm and the pork was on the dry side. After all of this , the time that it took to get our check was unacceptable. The atmosphere didn't impress me at all. I will not be going back. Definitely a one and done for me. read more

China Pavilion has the only authentic, and very delicious Cantonese cuisine that we've had in the Long Beach, Island Park, Oceanside, and RVC area. I grew up in NY's Chinatown and have had a tough time finding real cantonese food in these particular towns. The service is awesome and the space is lovely, plus they have a full service bar with great cocktails. I highly recommend China Pavilion! read more
