Awful, worst Chinese buffet in town. Price is about the same as everywhere else, but the food is often outright inedible. Everything is just so dry. The pork, the chicken, the rice, even the obligatory "American food for picky kids" (I.e. Pizza, chicken nuggets, French fries) foods are always so dry. How do you make pizza dry? It's remarkable in the worst kind of way. I recommend Chinatown buffet on Oak, or Sakura Buffet on Ming. Never ever eat here, not even as a laSt resort. Obviously it is not Vegas's Bellagio seafood buffet. But for $8.99 lunch, you have mussels, crawfish, shrimp, salmon, and tilapia etc. Place is clean and staff are attentive. My family and I have been coming here for over a year. Every time we came, dad felt the need to be nicer and leave a tip . No other table had a tip on the table (I noticed). This place is terrible. They have a HUGH selection of all kinds of dishes, everything you can imagine BUT it all tastes the same. I'm not kidding, the beef with broccoli tasted the same as the teriyaki chicken and the wonton soup taste the same as the egg drop soup. The fried rice was yellow, like saffron, but taste the same as the white steamed rice. The worst thing was that this place was filthy. The carpet, tables, and chairs were all so dirty. This place is in my neighborhood. I've eaten here for years. Today was my first time back after laying off for the pandemic. The buffet tables were open, but you have to use a thin plastic glove they give you when you first come in. Paper plates plasticware etc. are all temporarily in place, and I'm fine with that. My main issue is the quality of the food. I've seen it deteriorate over the years. Nothing I sample today could I describe as "good". A few items approached three staraverage. Most of it was "below average". The staff was pleasant, and I got my drink refilled regularly. I'll continue to eat here just because it's a good value and it's close to where I live. I just don't look forward to it, like I used to. There are better choices for Chinese buffets not far away. read more

By far the worst experience in a food establishment I've ever experienced. The foam plates and plastic utensils should have been the first red flag but I still gave them a shot. Well that was a mistake nothing on the line looked fresh or even had the slightest of appetizing appeal. Even then I gave them a shot and continued to make a plate the chow Mein was the star of the show and I mean that sincerely I am still sitting inside the restaurant writing this review and more and more goes wrong. They clearly re use all the single use utensils and I just watched a worker drop a whole stack of paper plates and take them to the back after walking past 2 trash cans. I came here today and it was awful before covid this place was so good it was better than other Chinese buffets but after covid this place went downhill I tried the fries, rice, cookies, chow mein, and it was all stale and cold. I rarely come here for lunch or dinner because it's so far away from where I live in town, but it's a guilty pleasure spot for me. While it's far from the best Chinese food buffet in town, it's not horrendous like some of the reviews on here make it out to be. Yes, they do cut some corners here with the food they serve here but honestly, it's cheap here and for the price, it's fine. I actually like their soups here as their egg flower soup is decent and so is their hot and sour soup. I am not a huge fan of their fried rice nor chow mein, but items like their beef broccoli and teriyaki chicken are actually pretty decent. I have also tried their seafood and they have a good amount of seafood for dinner, but I personally am not huge on seafood, but I tried a white fish entree (not sure if it was tilapia or sole) and it was surprisingly good! Some things are not good however, like their sushi. I just can't trust this place with sushi because of their inconsistency with some of the food. I don't want to get sick! I'd rather go to a reputable sushi place in town! The service here is okay and not the worst nor the best I've experienced. The server that I had on my last visit was a little neglectful in the fact that he didn't pick up our plates and they seemed to pile up. He seemed like a nice guy, but it felt like he was under constant pressure by the manager. He did bring us more hot tea, but that was about it. However, I have been here before where the server was good and constantly took our dirty plates. I guess it varies. China Star buffet is not a 5-star buffet and don't expect that coming here. For the price, you can't go wrong as they even have a happy hour special Monday- Friday from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM where the buffet is $6.95. That's not bad at all! We found hair in our food. Told the manager and she kept saying yes hair falls from people's head. Then claimed that it was our hair. The hair was black and short. YELP DISASTER INBOUND! Food was actually decent but there was a cockroach roaming around the dining area eating a peach that fell on the ground. Pointed it out to the waiter and he promptly picked up the peach leaving the cockroach crawling around the floor. When he came back I said, "I told you that you have a cockroach on the floor and didn't take care of it". He said, "thank you" as he promptly squashed it on the ground rubbed it into the carpet and walked away. Maybe it's just me but his response suggests that cockroaches aren't a big deal. Duly noted. Been here only two times .. The first time I LOVED It. The second time is where everything changed. The food tasted old & it was too greasy (I get it we were at a buffet but literally tasted like the food was dipped in oil) the sodas were horrible ( how can it taste horrible you may ask?) it tasted like dirt. Definitely a fan of this place. I bought a house out here in bakersfield so I'm here every weekend and except for maybe two times I've come here every sunday for the past three months or so. They have a variety of food from pizza, ribs, fried shrimp, teriyaki chicken, sushi, crab legs as well as a salad bar and desserts. I think the food is great and its priced well. Party of four comes out to about 46 bux I believe. They have waiters going around to take your empty plates away and they are very attentive to refilling your drink when your almost done with it.
