Tried out this dimsum place last weekend for brunch and super satisfied! They've brought back the ladies that push the dimsum carts right to your table which definitely makes the experience so much better! Overall their food was very good and the portions were decent as well. We got a variety of dimsum dishes including the chicken feet, spare ribs, chive dumplings, har gow, shumai, glutinous rice, shrimp Cheung fun, a duck dish and lo bok gao. All of these dishes came out warm and delicious!! The cheung fun, chicken feet and shumai was definitely my favorite. They were super flavorful and tasty!! Their service was great as well. Hmm it's okay. It's quick and conveniently located. The recipes may have changed since my last visit but I tasted sesame oil in almost everything I ate including steamed roast pork buns. What? And I'm very partial to steamed roast pork buns so I've had them pretty much at every dim sum place I go. Chicken feet and other things also had sesame oil. I'm not sure if they usually have it as an ingredient but I've never tasted it so obviously. Regardless, it was okay otherwise. I'm still on a hunt for my favorite dim sum place but this will scratch the itch unless the sesame oil is the new signature. The price is also decent for what you get so I think it's worth going as long as the price doesn't go up too much. We order from here all the time. We live down the street and always order the C21 plate. Today, I placed a pick up order for the same plate, and when I got home I realized they left out the spare ribs and there was a lot less rice than usual. I called them up immediately and the owner answered. When I mentioned the missing spareribs and rice, he proceeded to tell me the spareribs are on the rice to the right of the plate and I should see the other apps in there as well. He told me he plated most of the plates himself so the spareribs should be there, how their rice portions are portioned out and blah blah blah. I told him there isn't spareribs on my plate, otherwise I wouldn't be calling and the rice portion is way less than normal. After some back and forth, he agreed to have the food delivered and thanked me for letting them know of their mistake so they don't repeat it in the future... seemed like they were willing to fix THEIR mistake until the delivery guy came by. He told my boyfriend he was standing right next to them when they were plating our order and he saw them put the spareribs in. Clearly insinuating we were lying about some spareribs and rice! SPARERIBS AND RICE! I get this was the delivery driver and not the owner but I'm sure the driver said this for a reason. This isn't the first time they've messed up our order but this will be the last time they get my money. My neighbors warned us that this place always messes up the orders but we thought we'd try them anyway. People make mistakes but own up to it and don't question a customers integrity. This is just bad bad service. I'll gladly spend my money elsewhere and I suggest you do the same. read more

Besides the food, one time I parked at KFC to walk to the soccer field with my kids and one of the employee accused me of parking at their lot and will call the tow truck on me. I often stay in Nashua, NH and Boston isn't really that far but after having discovered an authentic full -service dim sum place from coworkers, this really makes it so much easier for a comforting brunch without having to plan a day trip in Boston! China Star is your typical dim sum place, similarly themed, offering all of the popular dishes such as various shiu mai's, har gow, chow fun rice crepes, chicken feet, Bbq pork riblets, Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce, crispy taro dumplings, sweet tofu dessert, etc. with the hospitable, sometimes pushy, older ladies serving them in steam carts and stamping your ticket as you order. Also has a menu to order food from and with live lobster/fish tank as well for those who want a grander dining experience. The quality of the food is good, and just like any other place, food needs to rotate and sell faster for fresher/hotter food so keep that it mind! The service is up to par with every dim sum place I've been to, as soon as you sit there are carts rushing towards you and waiters bringing tea and water or anything else you may need. Below mediocre. After we sat down waiter serves us few glasses of water and 2 glasses had some thing in it. Later we asked for the menu, the menu was disgusting greasy and it seem that they never wiped it or cleaned it. Met some former work colleagues for dinner here recently. PRO- Our waiter was attentive despite it being busy. Many Asian families eating here, which I took to be a good sign, that the food was good. We ordered the usual (to share) Poo-Poo platter & some really good sizzling green beans. Someone added in an order of shrimp fried rice too. I liked all the food, but the shrimp fried rice was just ok. We didn't think we'd eat it all, but we were surprised after dinner to find very little left. Mai Tai's & Scorpion Bowls all around & were very good. And our waiter kept our water glasses topped up very well with cold ice water. CON- The shrimp fried rice was just ok. Very small shrimp in it. I could drive to Boston, fight and pay for parking to dine in Chinatown...or eat here less than a mile with free parking! Whenever my family is feeling dining out for chinese without going to the buffet, we come to China Star. They have the usual dishes for lunch and dinner. I always go for General's Chicken, but it's a bit thick and hard to chew here. If you come early in the morning enough, they do serve dim sum. Much more enjoyable than my usual orders. The food here is comparable to the old Chau Chau City restaurant in Boston Chinatown. It's just solid good Chinese food. I wish I had taken photos but I was too busy eating. I usually get my usual for dim sum is chicken feet, sui mai, shrimp noodles with soy sauce, etc... and dinner shrimp mayo, fried rice, sizzling short ribs, etc. I tried something which is the jumbo steam oyster and was very impressed how it taste. It was pretty good . I was very skeptical at first because how big it was. But I'm glad I tried it. They still can't beat Boston food though. Just a lot of times we don't want to drive to Boston because parking is terrible on weekends in Chinatown. So I guess a lot of people saved the trip and just come here. Service is what needs to be worked on. 1 star service! I always have to repeatedly call someone if we needed something. Come on MANAGEMENT please work on this and also work on your waitresses asking for tip. They shouldn't asked customer how much they should get for tip. That's a NO NO. I tip whatver I want to tip. This is a decent Dim Sum place which is outside of Chinatown in Boston and it is much convenient for parking. The selections are good but you need to come in during the peak hours. We got many dishes and the only one that tasted ok was the beef tripe. The shrimp dumpling we got was bad and tasted sour, and some "hot" dishes were actually cool/cold. We asked the server to exchange the dish and she gave us attitude like it was our fault the food was sour and no apology. The guy at the front that take number seems like he hated his job or something but he sounded annoyed when I told him 4 adults and 2 infants, and raised his voice back that he only need total number of people. If you're not happy then don't come to work. When I take the paper to pay, he told me I need to give it to one of the waitress/waiter so they can calculate for him first then I can pay. For real!! Like how hard it is to look at the stamp and calculate the cost. I decided to give 10% tip even after the negative experience with food and customer. However, the waitress dared to come over to me personally, and demanded minimal 15%. I asked her where does it said minimum 15%, and told her tipping is based on service. I have gone to this restaurant 3 times in the past 6 weeks, and what a disappointment. The food was disgusting. We ordered the lobster special, and it did not smell right nor was it cooked all the way through. The salt and pepper calamari had no flavor and was soggy and chewy as leather. Not to mention, there is a big sign on the restaurant "18.95 lobster special" when I got to the restaurant they charged me over 30$ for the dish. When I brought up the problem, they argued with me and stated the price had gone back up few weeks ago, and I'm not the first customer to complain about it. Wow, this is bad, I can't believe they still had the sign up and wouldn't honor the price and wanted to argue with the customer. A gentleman in a suit and tie who was supposedly going to help the situation wanted to argue further and even went so far as to tell me I shouldn't have ordered so much food because was I really going to finish it anyway? All I can say is wow......now they want to tell me how to spend my money ? I really am thinking about reporting them for unfair business practices with the false advertising. How hard is it to take the sign down ? I have also eaten their dim sum many times over the years and to say the least, it is not good. The waitstaff is clueless and less than helpful. They are no where to be found when you need them. The quality and service at China Star has really gone downhill, I won't be returning again even if you paid me. If you want dim sum but without the parking headache of Chinatown come here! There is free private parking for customers. This is a push cart dim sum restaurant, where they have ladies pushing out carts of dim sum. There is definitely a huge variety including desserts. I'd say the fresh ones are the steamed dim sum because they are covered. As for the fried or uncovered dim sum they were cold and mediocre. The dim sum prices are based on size of the dish (small, med, large, special). This place is large and comfortable seating, no overly crowded like the ones in Chinatown. Really Good Chinese Food! We ordered about 15 different plates of food and had a super great feast. We all left happy and super full. We had a good time eating and talking. The service was polite and professional. Nobody was bothering us and they would come right away when we would signal them... I was impressed by the quality atmosphere and nice white linen table settings. They really had a great General Tso's Chicken! The food Is great. We like to come here every time we want dim sum. But there is one thing, a lot of the foods are fried and greasy (at least for the dim sum). You can easily get everything you want in under 15 minutes. And at least from a white guy who has never been to east Asia, it feels like you are walking into China.
