Worker very rude I order food came back within 10 min as instructed first worker never told me it wasn't ready the second employee stated it wasn't done next as I'm still in the order line . In the past, I have had a few nice meals from China Star Kitchen, but I suspect their standards are slipping. I purchased two lunches today -- one an Orange Chicken meal and the other a new meal they advertise at their Point Of Purchase register called, I think, Bourbon Chicken meal. I brought the food home and immediately started tasting it and the food was hard to describe. The food tasted like someone bought the ingredients at a wholesale food place where the food was not fresh, but it is cheap. For many years, I have eaten Chines food and have enjoyed it at many places; but when I opened these two meals that I purchased at China Star Kitchen, the brown rice had these dry looking things in it that look like FRENCH FRIES, as you can see in the photo. I tried to say to myself that maybe a fry got into the food accidentally, but then I saw there were many of these things throughout the rice. (And Chinese Restaurants don't normally serve French fries.) The rest of the food was not good at all. The more I tried to eat, the more I began to feel I should stop before I became sick. I am not sure if the ingredients were old, badly cooked or a little of both. After a few bites, I tried to see what one of those dry looking fries actually taste like and to my surprise, they are supposed to be CHICKEN, but they were just so DRY they were impossible to eat and not flavorful at all. Well, I THINK they were chicken, but maybe not.) I called China Star Kitchen a couple of hours after recovering from the horrible food to complain. I only took 3 or so bites and am about to toss the food because even my dog would not eat any of it. I tried to understand why the food was so bad and why those dry things that look like French fries were in the brown rice. The woman who answered the phone acted like she didn't care that the food bad and soon hung up (which is why I am posting this review as a WARNING to other hungry people interested in purchasing a quick meal from this place.) Ever sense Covid, some of the people who used to work at restaurants are gone and people who should really not be cooking anything for strangers at all seem to have taken their jobs. Also, some businesses try to cut corners to save costs; but when the food is nasty and looks nasty, how much do you save when a customer won't return? Some places will sell anything and they don't care if you don't return because someone else will come through the door that they can serve the nasty food to and maybe they will complain, maybe they will just toss the food out and forget about it, but obviously the people at China Star Kitchen in South Holland (Illinois) don't care. Had the pleasure of eating here tonight. I come to South Holland every week. So I been trying different places. This by far has to be the best so far. I had the General Tao chicken combo plate. It came with rice and and egg roll. I also ordered 4 crab rangoons. Just in case I was still hungry. Man that was PLENTY of food. Enough for two people easily. The good was very tasty and not just some cheap Chinese food. Except for the price. All for around 11$ The folks were very nice and the people in the area are nice as well. This restaurant is a hidden gem in South Holland. We love their dishes. My favorite is the seafood fried rice and vegetable chop suey. I love that it is made to order. The vegetables and proteins are fresh and flavorful. I recently had their fried wings and they were fried too perfection. I would highly recommend this location to others. read more

Food is good. It's the tasting in the area by far. However, it seems that they never clean the restaurant. The doors are so dirty you can barely see through them, the floors look as though they never mop, the runners on the ground haven't been moved or at least vacuumed, the walls are dirty, furniture needs to go. A few years ago they made an effort to clean up the place by painting and putting the rugs down, but I don't think they've cleaned up since. I won't order food again until they clean up and continue on a regular basis. We deserve better for the taxes we pay and moreover the pride we have for our community. It's very hard for me to give tasty Chinese food a bad review, especially when every lunch special on their menu is under $5. The portions were HUGE and the food was startlingly good for the price. I literally got two pounds of mongolian beef with my lunch. The meet was lean and cooked just right. I have to say that the place could use a few touches on the decor. Been eating here since they opened, they have a great and affordable lunch specials menu. I am a fan of the Beef Chop Suey. A word of warning, if you plan to use your credit/debit card, they won't accept if for orders under $10. So pony up and order some extra egg rolls. LOL read more

Really good orange chicken. Lunch special's portions are large. Their rice is also very delicious and NOT dry like most other Chinese food restaurants. You don't need to add soy sauce, but they provide you with plenty anyway, unlike other stingy establishments who charge extra money for sauce packets. Passing through with my Fam on our way home to MN and we really wanted some Chinese food. Came across this place, had good reviews so we tried it. We shared the beef broccoli which was really good, veggie egg foo young which was the bomb one of the best I've had, big huge patties. And we got the bbq pork lomein which was my least favorite lacked flavor so I tried to fix it up with some chili sauce which helped. And the fried rice was delicious as well. Where do I begin. This place absolutely did NOT meet my expectations. I have driven past this place too many times to count, and given the time of day, the lot would be packed. After trying the food for myself, I am not sure why this place would have any patrons. The food was subpar to say the least. I ordered three dishes: szechwan chicken, chicken lo mein and jumbo shrimp fried rice. There was no flavor on any of the dishes. It was like chewing on air. Not only that, the dishes had little to none of the requested meat. Like 4 jumbo shrimp in my fried rice and not more than 10 pieces of extra tough chicken between the other two dishes. I really like this place. It has a great special (fried shrimp and shrimp fried rice for $5.50). I usually call ahead and it's ready with I get there. I've tried their combination fried rice, shrimp egg foo yung and egg rolls and found them to be pretty good.
