WTH is this! Saw this place on Social Media & order carry out. The food is horrible. First, the entire place smells like burnt grease. The rice is over cooked and sesame chicken is too breaded! Way better Chinese cuisine in Houston. Don't waste your gas or money

Shrimp and crawfish rice with spring rolls

The shrimp and crawfish rice was greasy with limited shrimp. The vegetable spring roles were mushy and stale on the outside. Not at all fresh.

There is a time and place for everything, even Americanized Chinese food. I fully recognize that I'm not the target audience for this, I still can't get over how mediocre my meal was. TL;DR: This it not my bag. (#1) Situated in the Vanderbilt Square strip along Holcombe, China Stix is one of West U's only options for Americanized Chinese food. It's easy to compare all the legit Chinese options just a stone's throw away down the road (#2), but there are some some days for some folks where general tso's and sesame chicken just sound that much more appealing. I ordered, in Spanish (#3), and got a cornucopia of items from general tso's with side of egg drop soup, some sesame chicken, lemon chicken with fried rice, and a little beef and broccoli finished off with a slew of fortune cookies. I also threw in some beef and broccoli, kung pao chicken, chicken lo mein, and some thick egg rolls and hot and sour soup. Despite the serious variety, it was all a wash. The food was pretty horrendous. The general tso's was either too mushy or too tough, the lemon chicken and to some extent, the sesame chicken was extra thick with the sauce and was too overbearing. The lo mein was bland all throughout and the beef with broccoli tasted very off. The fried rice was also a miss and the egg drop soup was almost too cornstarchy to swallow down. Even the fortune cookies were stale. The service was the only winner for me and I learned they're popular destination for folks looking for a reasonably priced lunch. While I would likely never come back for more, I'm glad they serve as an option for people who would. Lastly, I've never listened to so much Bad Bunny in a Chinese themed establishment in my entire life. Here's to new experiences. ___________ (#1) Perhaps "not my cup of tea" would be more appropo? (#2) Hu's Kitchen? Bao Shi Yi? Cooking Girl? (#3) Chinese? Please. No mames.

The name of their game is bang for your buck! Their combo meals include your entree, rice, egg roll and Rangoon! The egg roll was not my favorite but it was my first time trying a Rangoon and I loved it! I got the king pap chicken which was very good but the general tso's chicken my friend got left a bit to be desired. All in all I'd order again to hit the fast Chinese food craving

    Orange chicken

TLDR: Awesome eatery! Very fast, economical, and tasty! I order China Stix about 2-3 times per month. I usually order online because they are very fast (the food is ready in ~5 minutes from calling ) and I think the portion sizes are slightly larger. The food is very tasty too! I usually go for the sweet & sour soup with either Kung Pao chicken or Mongolian beef. You can't go wrong with either of those! Featured below is the orange chicken (which in full disclosure wasn't my favorite since it was very "saucy", so I'll stick to my usuals next time). As I said above, I love the convenience of ordering online, but the store has a charming ambiance! There's a sleek modern feel to it and the chairs are fairly comfortable. The bathroom is also pretty clean although, as a general principle, I prefer my porcelain throne at home. My one tip: if you're eating in-store during the day, sit with your back to the sun. The windows on the building & car windshields across the street can be a little... bright.

    C7. Hunan Chicken
    Nina K.

Stopped by after work for a quick meal. I ordered the hunan chicken combo which was ready in less than 5 minutes. Everything was fresh and hot however I've had better versions of hunan chicken with more flavor. The hot and sour soup was good, just wish it had more tofu. The fried egg roll and cream cheese wonton were decent - nothing special. For some reason, they were blasting explicit rap music inside the restaurant which isn't my go to choice when trying to enjoy a meal. I'd get it again in the future but I'd like to explore other places near my work as well. Also, they charged $2.95 for some extra steamed rice.

CS1. Orange Flavored Chicken + Vegetable Egg Rolls

I've been going here since I was a child. Service? QUICK!!! Ambience? Made for fast-casual dining. Food? This was my childhood version of the popular new chain, "rice box." Plenty of similar flavors as well. Orange Chicken | 6/10 No way around it - it's not as flavorful or fresh tasting as a few other orange chickens I've tasted recently; however, it still gets the job done if you're craving it! I'd still recommend getting something else (maybe General Tso's is the closest similar recommendation). Fried Rice | 6/10 Decent fried rice. Nothing too special! Vegetable Egg Rolls | 7/10 Lightly fried, flaky, & good! Fortune Cookie | 7/10 Mine told me that my friends are mirrors of myself.

CS12. Sauteed Chicken, Beef, and Shrimp In Mandarin Style Combo
    Sage W.

All of this food came on one order. It was the combo with shrimp, chicken and steak mandarin style. Cooked to perfection and came out quick! The fried rice came with it also, you also could have gotten white rice. The wonton soup is really good and consists of 2 dumplings. And a crispy spring roll in there too! I really enjoyed it and the guy at the front counter was super helpful! I definitely will be going back!

It's a small and cozy place that can get packed around peak hours. I got the beef curry udon with a side of tonkatsu. Not many restaurants in Houston offer Takowasa, which is marinated raw octopus with wasabi; and when we find one that does, it's our must order for appetizers. We also ordered the chicken karaage and agedashi tofu. The karaage was juicy and slightly larger than the size of popcorn chicken. The tofu was soft and lightly battered, however the downside is that it gets soggy quickly since it's sitting in the sauce rather than on the side. For our entrees, we got the carbonara, curry tonkatsu rice, niku tama ankake, and kakuni udon. The carbonara was nice and creamy. The curry rice tastes exactly like the Japanese box curry. The niku tama is more of a thicker soup base similar to egg drop soup, however has a more slightly sweet umami flavor. The kakuni udon had a lighter broth with braised pork belly. The service was a bit slow here, but we didn't mind it too much. The interior had a cute traditional Japanese style decor. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and we'll be back to try other udons.

Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.
