Went there today and ordered sesame, chicken and general so She said it was $21.24. I only had $23 on my card. I swipe it and she said it's declined. She pulled out the receipt and showed me that it said $24.24. I asked her to tell me the amount again and she said 21.24 and I said that's not what's on here. She said a it was an accident but I don't believe her. She never let me look at the machine when she was typing it in. Been going here for 10 plus years. Few things to address. If you're looking for good ambiance, this place are NOT it.. it's not someplace great with decor and beautiful lightings. This place is definitely not romantic so don't take your date here. Don't expect good customer services either. However, this is what's excellent. Their food, it's consistent, the quality are the same. And they are efficient. When they tell you over the phone. It will be done in 10 minute. I bet my ass it's done when I get there. I'm addicted to quite a few things. Their white rice. They pre soak it. And made fresh EVERY COUPLE HOURS THE GRAVY for the egg foo young is like liquid crack. The bbq spare ribs have alway be grilled NOT fried. The shrimp sauce for the hibachi dish has a kick, I swear they trying to kick me since I don't do spicy. But it good and it works. The prices goes up like .10 every 3 years. It's still not a lot. But if you're dealing with a break up. And need to binge, you can order and come in to get it. No one will sees your eyes are swollen because they're that efficient and honestly I dont think they care. But you will find great comfort in the food and seek revenge. Extremely Americanized Chinese food, but that's perfectly cool. It's what we like! I ordered a spicy chicken, which comes with either pork fried rice or white rice and a spring roll. Well cooked but not very spicy, but still a lot of chicken in there and a lot of meat in the fried rice. A packet or two of hot mustard brought out the flavor and we were rocking along. They have a buffet table set up in the middle of the dining room. I have no idea when they have a buffet. The search for good Chinese food in Charlotte continues. Tried this place the other night and nothing special, just your average Chinese restaurant nothing fancy. They have a small hot food table where you can buy food by the pound. The place could use an update, some paint and new furniture. Didn't trust it so I stuck to the basics.....ordered veggie spring rolls and shrimp toast. Spring roll was ok, shrimp toast was ok but they were too small for the price. Wanted to try their fried rice until they told me that they put peas and carrots in there and no bean sprouts......in all fairness I should mention that my standards with Chinese food is very high. After growing up in NYC and eating authentic Chinese food in the real Chinatown it's hard to settle for mediocre places. I might go back and try their fried rice but that's a might! read more

Chinatown is just a standard Chinese restaurant for me. It's small with a standard menu. The food was good. Not great, not horrible, just good. I ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken and the chicken was cooked well and was not soggy. It was a standard sweet-and-sour sauce, and it came with fried rice, which was quite tasty. The beef lo mein wasn't what I expected. There was a generous serving of beef, but it lacked a flavor that I usually associate with beef lo mein. I'm not sure what that flavor is, but because it was missing, I was a little let down by the dish. The crab wontons on the other hand. Were a complete disappointment. I don't think there was any crab in these crab Rangoon's. Instead it tasted like straight cream cheese, and instead of being folded in the little pockets they were just flat triangles. So I probably wouldn't order that again. For a quick takeout lunch during the workday, I may return to this location. But it would not be in the top of my regular restaurants. read more

I had asked what veggies come with the chicken--celery, chestnuts, peppers, carrots, peanuts--missing what I wanted most; mushrooms. :( The flavor was lacking any heat. I added Sriracha to give it the kick I was looking for. Rice was good, place white rice. Sticky as you would expect. I noted the health grade was a 95 A. We were originally going to cook Friday night, but it got late by the time we were heading home, so I decided to pick up some food from China Town on the way. I went in and there were two people actually eating at the restaurant, the rest were in line or waiting for their take out. It seems like that is the thing there as the phone was constantly ringing for more orders. They had a buffet, but I'm not sure when it is set up as it was not during the time I went, which shocks me with it being a Friday night. I ordered my normal, you got it, sesame chicken. Also ordered beef and broccoli. With the number of people waiting and the calls coming in, the order was ready in 5 minutes. That's great, but should that be questionable??? Maybe the whole Americanized Chinese part. Both entrees were good and I like that they had a little extra sauce for putting on rice. They also made for good leftovers - not dried out! I would go back here for convenience, but I still have some other Chinese places that I just like a lot more, so I will reserve those for the 4 and 5 stars. read more

First I like to point out that ChinaTown is a "Chinese Buffett". Though they have a menu, most people come here for the unlimited food. It is rather quiet. Usually, these places are, but as a tip to the management, silence in a restaurant equals awkward silence. Food Buffet Review: - The Crab Rangoon's are A-OK, good fry, but not much crab meat, might as well call it a Cream Cheese Rangoon. - Egg Rolls are alright, nothing too special, average. - Fried Rice, unfortunately, is underwhelming. Usually, that is my draw to Chinese restaurants, but this taste like standard minute-rice with soy sauce. - Chicken Fingers were one of the better items here, fry was perfect, the chicken itself was tender, much better than their Orange Chicken. - I would stay clear of the veggies, most are drowning in sauce/water and soggy. The Horror...The Horror. I have had some bad Chinese food in the past, but this place takes the cake. The 90 sanitation rating should have acted as a warning, but I felt adventurous. The hot sour soup tasted like it was made with bleach. The chicken wings were not chicken, but some kind of amphibian. The low mien was swimming in 30 weight motor oil. The cat and broccoli was tasteless and the egg rolls were literally eggs that were rolled around in kitty litter. Their masterpiece was what they were trying to pass off as Chicken Sesame. I swear I found a beak in it. Not a sesame seed in sight. The sauce was amalgam kerosene and fish heads that burned my eyes. The diet Coke was OK. I had a harrowing experience today at China Town Chinese restaurant near Harris teeter in Steele Creek. Last night we ordered take out, and when we opened the bag at home I noticed a huge amount of thick black grease all inside the wanton soup container. It was disgusting. I figured it was an innocent mistake so I decided to take it back there today and ask for a refund. Well, I never expected the treatment I got when I walked in with the soup. The workers all gathered around & began shaking their heads denying that it came from their place, even though I gave them the receipt. They kept saying "this didn't come from us" and "we didn't do that!" They never apologized, but in the end I got the refund. It killed them to give it to me. All I can say is never again. read more

Despite no reviews we stopped at China Town as we were passing by for lunch. The buffet lunch is $6.29 and it was fresh and warm (not hot). All the buffet food was tasty and we went back for seconds. I'm a foodie so I can't give more than 3 stars but for a quick and slightly above average quality buffet we will come back. The floors were pretty dirty but everything else is clean. Yes... you have to order take out unless you want to pay a delivery service from a local pick up carrier, but food is always HOT, orders are always correct, and the staff is always friendly and appreciative of your business.
