    Veggies hibachi

Been going here for 10 plus years. Few things to address. If you're looking for good ambiance, this place are NOT it.. it's not someplace great with decor and beautiful lightings. This place is definitely not romantic so don't take your date here. Don't expect good customer services either. However, this is what's excellent. Their food, it's consistent, the quality are the same. And they are efficient. When they tell you over the phone. It will be done in 10 minute. I bet my ass it's done when I get there. I'm addicted to quite a few things. Their white rice. They pre soak it. And made fresh EVERY COUPLE HOURS THE GRAVY for the egg foo young is like liquid crack. The bbq spare ribs have alway be grilled NOT fried. The shrimp sauce for the hibachi dish has a kick, I swear they trying to kick me since I don't do spicy. But it good and it works. The prices goes up like .10 every 3 years. It's still not a lot. But if you're dealing with a break up. And need to binge, you can order and come in to get it. No one will sees your eyes are swollen because they're that efficient and honestly I dont think they care. But you will find great comfort in the food and seek revenge. Or you just want Chinese that night.

Pretty good chinese food in the steele creek area. I wouldn't call the szechuan wontons authentic szechuan style wontons but they were decent. It's just wontons in a mild brown sauce. Food is decent just enough food portioned out. Quick service. Was done within minutes.

Extremely Americanized Chinese food, but that's perfectly cool. It's what we like! I ordered a spicy chicken, which comes with either pork fried rice or white rice and a spring roll. Well cooked but not very spicy, but still a lot of chicken in there and a lot of meat in the fried rice. A packet or two of hot mustard brought out the flavor and we were rocking along. They have a buffet table set up in the middle of the dining room. I have no idea when they have a buffet. They're located in the shopping plaza in the north west corner of Steele Creek and South Tryon, next to the Harris Teeter.

    Updated menu with prices...

Definitely on the pricey side for the starters. Food was meh, nothing to really rave about. The crab Rangoon, they give you 5 pieces in which 3 were extremely hard and inedible.

Shrimp toast and veggie spring roll. Just ok.

The search for good Chinese food in Charlotte continues. Tried this place the other night and nothing special, just your average Chinese restaurant nothing fancy. They have a small hot food table where you can buy food by the pound. The place could use an update, some paint and new furniture. Didn't trust it so I stuck to the basics.....ordered veggie spring rolls and shrimp toast. Spring roll was ok, shrimp toast was ok but they were too small for the price. Wanted to try their fried rice until they told me that they put peas and carrots in there and no bean sprouts......in all fairness I should mention that my standards with Chinese food is very high. After growing up in NYC and eating authentic Chinese food in the real Chinatown it's hard to settle for mediocre places. I might go back and try their fried rice but that's a might!

I couldn't believe this when i walked in... Food is always delicious but this unsanitary.

This is what happened today ! Love the food but this changed the game. Great staff poor service.

    Broccoli had funny taste.

Terrible food. Messed up our order. Fried rice was 90% onions. Ended up throwing half of it away. Will not return. Yuck!

I actually loved the bright, comfy vibe of the place. Thought it could use a bit louder music to fill the space. I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, Rainbow Dumplings and this Mango Jasmine Tea drink...and they were all pretty good. Still, I was surprised how my bill totaled about 35 bucks. Normally, I'm not too surprised by the pricing (even for lunch), but it felt a bit high...given that everything was served on paper and plastic wares. I did like how they have these DIY take-home plastic wares accessible and ready to go...so some points for that! Overall, it's just a casual eatery...not a full scale restaurant. I prefer full scale service, complete with nicely plated presentations, but this type of DIY eatery is just something that's becoming more common.

It was pushing 97 degrees outside, and after a long afternoon of computer work and errands, I finally stopped in for the crispy scallion chicken and pan-fried dumplings. Huge portions. Fair prices. Friendly people. Consistently solid food every single time. The best part today honestly might have been the air conditioning. They've got a cool, comfortable space to wait while your order is prepared, which felt amazing after baking outside all day. I forgot to take food photos because I was hungry and ready to get home, but trust me, they pack these takeout containers like a game of Jenga. Nothing spills. Nothing shifts. Everything is packed tight and thoughtfully. Only tiny downside: the dumpling sauce goes into the same container as the hot dumplings, so by the time I got home, it had softened the bottom a bit. Still, the dumpling wrappers are thick and crispy enough to survive the trip. Into the air fryer later they go. One warning: the parking lot can be chaotic since it sits right off busy Providence Road. Just be patient. Cars are constantly pulling in, backing out, blocking entrances, and today people were absolutely treating red lights like suggestions. Saw it multiple times, including a bus cutting across traffic when I had the right-of-way. Charlotte drivers... please relax a little. That said, the food made the trip worth it. Taipei Express is one of those dependable local spots that always comes through when you need a solid meal without spending a fortune. Life is too short to not eat well. I've been chasing good, authentic (or nostalgic?) Chinese food, and I finally found some while visiting the area. The space is bright, open, and comfortable. The area is walkable. Unfortunately, the actual experience was nothing like the hype. First, parking is a nightmare. I would seriously add an extra 20-30 minutes just to find a spot. Once we finally made it inside, we waited another 30 minutes to be seated. After sitting down, it took close to another 30 minutes before anyone came to take our order, and then roughly another 30 minutes for the food to arrive. So you're potentially looking at well over an hour and a half of waiting and inconvenience before you really get to eat. And the dim sum cart that brought us there in the first place? We never saw one. They did have a dim sum menu that we could order from, but that was not the experience being promoted in the videos we had seen. The food itself was just okay. Nothing was terrible, but nothing justified the hype or the amount of time and hassle involved. If you've had good dim sum in places like New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, this isn't remotely in the same league. Between the parking, the long waits, slow service, missing dim sum cart, and average food, I genuinely don't understand the crowds. Hard pass for us. Once and done.

It is busy enough that plenty of other people had also called in for takeout. The price was higher than I thought it would be by a significant margin; I thought something was off but then rechecking their menu I saw it was indeed $20 for a vegetable entree. On the upside, they did offer brown rice at no extra charge. Still, I'll get three meals out of it and as someone who eats a lot of takeout, this was not a great value. In terms of quality, I was thrilled to find that they offered a stir-fried okra dish. This is a ubiquitous Indian dish, and of course okra is common throughout the tropics globally, but I'd never seen this offered at a Chinese restaurant before. And the rapid cooking technique typical of the cuisine produced a delightfully crisp vegetable, which went great with a black bean sauce and some very hot dried chilis. On the other hand, their interpretation of ma po tofu had some fermented broad beans but minimal vegetables (sometimes you get mushrooms or peas or at least some leeks or something) and no numbing sensation. They had a bean curd roll dish that I enjoyed, and some quality dumplings. Overall, not huge portions and a mix of okay to great quality.
