The online receipt and the drivers receipt. This doesn't seem like good business practice to me.

We used to love the food- it was consistently good but now, not so much. Sometimes too greasy, sometimes, too salty, sometimes no flavor at all. Now, they have some new online ordering system that isn't accurate and the restaurant decided to charge me extra without my authorization. On top of the $5.00 delivery fee (which doesn't include the driver tip) and a $.99 service fee, they decided that I was going to be charged extra for a substitution which the online system didn't charge- it only showed up on the delivery drivers slip when he showed up at the house. I showed the driver my receipt from the online purchase and signed his receipt with the total I was given online, $56.31. A member of the restaurant called me after closing, after 9pm, to tell me that she was charging me the extra $1.08 for a substitution we had made. I said no, I'm paying what the receipt said online when I completed the purchase. She said, no, there was a mistake with the system and I needed to pay the extra charge. I said look, I ordered a dinner combo and didn't get the soup that is included with the meal, I asked for white rice instead of the pork fried rice which comes with the meal (which is also less expensive on the menu) and now you're going to charge me extra for one chicken teriyaki instead of an egg roll which again cost the same amount on the menu. The failure of your system is not my fault? Yes, they unflinchingly are. How unfair that they are leaving this to the delivery driver to hash out. He couldn't even explain it to me and showed me an alternate receipt he had in the car which matched my online receipt. I told the woman I was not doing business with them any more. She said ok. It's too bad. I like to support local businesses in my town but I'll go to the next town now, to get better service.

It may not be tucked away in a traditional Chinatown, but the food absolutely delivers. The restaurant was very clean, and the service was fantastic from the moment I walked in. I tried the Peking duck bao, crystal shrimp dumplings, hot and sour soup, beef chow foon, and everything was delicious. The bao was soft and pillowy with flavorful duck inside, and the crystal shrimp dumplings were delicate, fresh, and packed with flavor. I love finding places that serve authentic Asian cuisine, and Empire Chinese Kitchen was a great find. There's street parking available nearby, and whether you're already a dim sum fan or looking to try something different while in Portland, I'd definitely recommend stopping in. The restaurant is small, relatively quiet and decorated nicely. The service was very friendly. The menu seems to be very focused, showcasing a handful of shareable plates, vegetarian items, rice/noodle dishes and entrees with authentic Szechuan flavors. Boyfriend got spicy noodles and I got braised beef noodles. We also got a side of their homemade chili oil, and in response to this the server asked us if we wanted our meals to be extra spicy. How could we turn that offer down? As soon as that bowl of noodle soup came out, I knew I was in for a great meal. It smelled intoxicating. It was the angriest shade of red possible, which is exactly what I like to see when I'm eating something supremely spicy. The broth and chili oil were both full of flavor, the beef was tender and the noodles had a delightfully chewy texture. Taking everything into account, Sichuan Kitchen served me one of the most memorable dishes I've ever had. There's really no other way to put it. If you're in the area and you find yourself craving the authentic numbing spicy flavors of Szechuan Chinese food, Sichuan Kitchen is the answer.

The interior is pleasant with decorative paper lanterns on the ceiling giving the impression of "pillowy clouds". My two sons enjoyed the Zhong Dumplings (delicious mix of sweet and savory), which was the highlight of the meal. We also had 2 orders of the soup noodles with minced pork and 1 order of the braised beef noodles. A dish we shared was the fried green beans (which was very tasty). However, the soup dishes were slightly too salty. Also, the quantity of beef was slightly less than I had expected. That said, the service was attentive, and excellent (before the 6pm rush). Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would dine here again.

The hibachi grill "show" is exactly what you would expect. The flames, the spinning egg, the spatula banging/drumming, the onion flaming volcano, the tossing pieces of food so the customers can catch it in their mouth, and squirting sake directly into your mouth. I haven't been to hibachi grill in at least 15 years...nothing has changed. Exactly the same. The grill guy was very enthusiastic, funny, and gave my daughter a balloon when he was finished cooking. The food portions are generous. We both brought about half our meal. The food was fresh. The flavors were average...like they intentionally made them basic for the most common denominator. I did like each portion included both rice and noodles. The meal also comes with a small salad (very basic) and a clear broth soup which was better than I expected. The price is reasonable.
