I tried this restaurant for the first time last night and found it pleasant enough. The decor is a bit plain but fine. The staff was smiling and attentive, and tea was brought promptly. I had crab puffs which were served nice and warm. They were good but not outstanding. The house egg foo yung was good but not outstanding either (a few more "goodies" in it would have improved matters). The brown sauce on the egg foo yung was just the right consistency, not watery as it is in inferior places. The odd thing was the background music: "Love Is Blue" played endlessly the entire time I was there. When I asked why that was happening, I was told that no one knew what to do about it! Bizarre. Ordered chicken fried riced and sweet and sour chicken, to go. The order was ready quickly, which was nice as we live only a few minutes away. Sadly, when I got it home we were not impressed. The sweet and sour was not - it had no flavor! There were more veggies than chicken, but they did not add to the flavor. The chicken fried rice passable, somewhat lacking in flavor, though not nearly as bad as the sweet and sour. I've been going here for takeout since they opened. The food is good for this area but I had an issue last Friday. I stopped off on my way home & ordered takeout. When it was ready, the waiter asked me to repeat my order and I was a little slow naming the items & he made fun of me.."you can do it" embarrassed I went home & later my brother asked if that really was Princess Chicken-no green onions. I checked my entree...it was not lemon prawns it was the wrong order!! Moral of the day check your order before walking out the door. I ate here yesterday on Sunday and they have the lunch specials on the weekend that almost everywhere else only has during the week. I got a very nice lunch for $8.35 with soup and egg roll. The service was very attentive and we got everything perfectly. I liked the fact that the water had sliced lemon in it, also the tea was a aromatic jasmine. The one thing I would have wanted would be some sort of privacy in the dining area as it is very open. The servers have very sharp classy uniforms it's top notch service with the look. I really do not see how a restaurant that has some sorting out to do just opening could not be seen as growing room for them. Will not be returning. Service was great, it's not that. We ordered pot stickers and three dinner entrees. The 1st entree came out after we finished the pot stickers. My friend and I were so excited to see this rundown location active again! Last night we went in there to get dinner... This place is immaculate! There weren't more then four tables being served with a clearly bored, confused and frankly unfriendly staff... With the exception of one person. The food was acceptable, however the atmosphere... Including very strange musak, Made us wonder if we were in the twilight zone! We ordered an appetizer after trying to order it three times. We ordered items not on the dinner menu, under the dinner for which there is charge fully explained in the menu. The order was not written down and communicated to three different people. The one person that appeared to know what she was doing and was quite embarrassed about this and so much else to come, looked horrified with this craziness when all we wanted was to have a good meal... Remember we had ordered three times now, With three different people and the most unfriendly one came over to the table apparently after reading their own menu and had to make sure that we realized there would be that additional $4.85 charge which we were fully prepared to pay. I asked about replacing the mandatory steamed or brown rice with fried rice and was told a very firm no by One of the several waitress who hovered over our table, not to inquire whether we needed anything or not. Ordinarily one expects to pay for a substitution rather than being told a flat no with and not smiling face. She and three other waitstaff kept coming by the table and literally staring at us and walking off. The Mushu pork which tasted fine was prepared for us by one of the waitstaff who overstuffed it and nearly nearly threw the plate at me. Meanwhile the fish and ginger dish had not arrived, Nor the mandated steamed rice, or tiny spring rolls which were very small, Nor any of the other dinner items. At one point during this experience one of these hovering, not smiling and unfriendly waitstaff tempted to pull my friends dinner plate away from her. We are extremely polite, didn't want to say at word, especially after witnessing One of these hoverers wiping her nose with her hand. One wait person who was folding napkins kept coming over to our table and literally staring at us... Not saying a word! Our conversation was continually interrupted not by questions such as can I get you something else or perhaps your dinner in a decent order, but just staring, Not smiling... The check arrived while we were still eating. We definitely wanted to get out of there so the check was paid and immediately three people begin removing plates not checking with us to see if we were finished eating or even with the tea. I sincerely hope that the owners or management will take a look at this as I ordinarily do not post anything negative because I am so pro small business! read more

I'm shocked to hear that these people have another restaurant! First off we had to wait in the entry to get in because people were backed up waiting to be seated. There was a woman on the phone taking orders, but no hostess. Then we were taken to a table with no place settings, and seated while the busser set the table. (Without napkins) After about 5 minutes a waiter came to take our order, but left without taking the menus. Someone stopped by 5 minutes later to ask if we'd been helped. Then the waiter who had taken our order returned to ask the same thing! Apparently he forgot to turn our order in, because our food didn't come until we had sat there for one hour! We were amused at first by people coming out with plates of food, and wandering the restaurant to see which table they were for. Then we saw a man get up and leave after they got his order wrong twice. Another couple across the way told us all there food was cold. Our waiter came out to ask a 2nd time if we'd ordered, and then proceed to find our order in his pad, he returned to the kitchen and come back out to tell us our order had gotten messed up somehow. Our food came out a little while later, but was barely warm. Another couple who had been there nearly as long as we had, jokingly asked if they could have some rice. I recommend they call Gordon Ramsey for a restaurant rescue. We will not return or recommend it to any of our friends. read more

This place is the worst Chinese restaurant in Sonoma county. The food was gross, I had to puke it up in the bathroom. The severs had no English speaking skills. I tried to tell them the food was bad and they said "thank you very much". The service was bad and the waitress had attitude and was running around without attending us. There were 3 of us, appetizers came to 2 of us, left one to wait, then finally came, with a different sauce. She could not understand what we wanted at all, then rushed us with entrees too fast. Sizzling platter dish was actually cold, they dumped cold food onto hot platter, not very good. Food is ok, nothing special, and their prices are high for what you get. $7.25 for a small glass of wine, I think that is unreasonable. My friend ordered the princesses chicken; and literally 5mins later, they took It away from us because someone else had order the princess chicken before us and they didn't bring another for 1 hour. We were very impressed with China Village. It is hard to find good Chinese in this area, especially with a nice decor. We came in with 7 people so we were seated at the round table just around the corner from the front door. We received water and tea shortly after we arrived. We took a few minutes to pick out our dishes but by the time they brought our water out we were ready and got our order in. Within a short time we had our soup arrive. We had the sizzling rice soup. The broth needed a little more flavor but all of the veggies were fresh and the rice was perfectly roasted. The other dishes came one after another every few minutes. The only dish that came out a little late was worth the wait, it was the tofu and seafood in a clay pot. The seafood tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly. There were scallops and calamari and some fish. All of it tasted fresh and was not over cooked. The other dishes were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. From the 4 year old to the 40 year old loved it. Even our Chinese Exchange student said it was the best Chinese Restaurant she has been too in the US and she has been here for 2 years. If that isn't a good enough test, I don't know what is. She picked the Spicy Eggplant and said it tasted just like they make it at home. After reading all the reviews about slow service we reluctantly tried china village for dinner on a Friday night. The service was very friendly and fast. Didnt wait for water to be refilled, appetizer out in a reasonable amount of time and entrees out before halfway done with appetizer. service is why i gave 4 stars. The food was hot and fresh, however we felt everything was very bland. Potstickers, fried rice and s3same chicken all not very flavorful. I would give food 3 stars. Poor service and lousy tasting food! Saturday dinner time, service was slow to absent. First off we couldn't believe it, some guy cuts in front of my family as we were making table arrangements with the host. Even more to my surprise the host seats him before us while we were clearly next in line with no obvious wait. The place was only at most 40% full and the host didn't even bother to greet and assure us or apologize for the wait, and for allowing that jerk to cut the nonexistent line in front of us. Even with the place only 40% full the staff was clearly overwhelmed and as a result lacked in slow to no service, not even water. I had to constantly ask the staff just for water let alone order the meal and wait on the food. It took forever to get water and forever and ever and ever just to get food. Finally the food arrived! It looked ok, objectively for Chinese for we were not impressed for the food presentation of how it looked, the smell, the taste, all bad. The food could definitely be better, and we've tried Chinese food from all over the bay area and our standards are not that high. I would give this place half a star(1/2) if I could on account that the atmosphere is nice enough I guess, but easily hindered by everything else wrong with this place. Yelp will only let me give one star. We were disappointed to say the least. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Let me first say I was really skeptical of this place at first because when I think good Chinese food, the city of Cotati isn't what comes to mind. I was wrong, Literally blown away entering the restaurant. The ambiance was amazing!!!! Very modern and clean! Me and a friend came in just when it opened and we received nothing but A+ quality customer service going in and out of the restaurant. Our server was SOOO accommodating! We were really hungry and so we decided to have a feast before heading up to be camp counselors for a week. We ordered the xlb, chili oil wonton, and seafood fried rice with oolong tea yum! We even got complementary soup too! The chili oil wonton was fantastic! It's garlicky, vinegary, a touch of sweetness and spicy 4 components that are well balanced. I can really taste the high quality chili oil which I really appreciate. The filling of the wonton was pork with other ingredients such as green onions, sesame oil, and some grated ginger. It was that good that I needed up eating most of it than my friend oops! Hehe the xlb was really good but wasn't able to enjoy it as much since me and my friend lost track of time and needed to go back on the road to drive to camp. The xlb is made to order and I still remember the taste of the broth in a good way which is a sign that it's worth getting! The broth is very flavorful and the meatball complements it! The meatball was juicy and has a clean taste without having that meaty aftertaste. Overall it's a great place to stop by and eat if your ever in the city of Cotati!! Went for lunch and it is the typical menu that you find at most Chinese restaurants who serve the lunch specials that come with soup, small egg role and the entree. The restaurant has been recently freshened up with new paint, carpet and tables/chairs which makes it spacious and look clean and modern. My boyfriend and I tried this place for the first time about 2 weeks ago and it was delicious! We ordered take out and had the snow white garlic chicken, beef chow mein and steamed rice. I love Chinese food and it's hard to find a good Chinese food restaurant around here, so this was a great find. Also a lot of Chinese food places use a lot of oil and make you feel uncomfortably full once you are done eating and this place doesn't use much oil on their food and doesn't make you feel grossly full at the end. The food is always good. A bit on the pricey side, but worth it for their consistency. I am not a fan of the to-go packing that they use. Tonight I received an oddly shaped bag of food and when I got home I found a shocking amount of juice,sauce and a lot of cooking oil pooled in the bottom of the bag. Thank goodness there were no holes or rips in the bag. The food stayed secured, but there was a noticeable lack of sauce in one particular container. Upon inspection I found that the weight of the items packed on top crushed the tops of the entrees below them. This again became an big issue when I tried to put everything in the fridge. the containers had been sitting in a pool of liquid that contained cooking oil. long story short, it took a considerable amount of time to wash the oil off of the containers so they could go in my fridge and I still have it on my hands after several washings. My free time is very valuable to me and having to waste it cleaning up what should be fool proof packaging is unacceptable. I hope the business reviews this and looks into alternate solutions that are both more secure and easily transportable. And/Or dedicate a second bag to abnormally shaped containers so there is no confusion when packaging an order. Good luck. read more

The wait staff was attentive and provided good service and was also friendly. The food was delicious. We ordered Mongolian Beef, Chicken Chow Fun, Sesame Chicken, and the dumplings. We stopped tonight for the first time at the China Village. It was the worse service I had ever gotten. Ordered Lg War Wonton, egg foo young and just white rice. People that had come in after us started receiving their food which most of the orders were wrong. She puts the egg foo young on our table without soup or rice and leaves. 5 minutes later she put soup on the table next to us. They said this is a small, saying yes she leaves to go to kitchen. About 5 minutes later she goes to that table gets the bowls & spoons out from in front of them and brings that with the soup to us. I said I'm not eating that, it was at their table unattended. She says its your soup. Told her we didn't want it just bring the white rice. By this time the egg foo young is cold. 10 minutes later asked someone else for the rice so we could just get out of there. People on the other side of us got 3 dishes they didn't order and weren't charged. Finally after being there for an hour, we didn't get soup, had cold rice and egg foo young. The worst meal we never had. We arrived around 2 pm Sunday and were greeted by surly staff who refused eye contact the entire time. Water was delivered to our table but the waitress disappeared before we could order tea. Our waiter was busy and we had to flag him down. He got our order and we waited while other people were served and food brought to their table even though they arrived after us. We complained the table was dirty and sticky. Someone came with a dry cloth to clean it, when we pointed out you can't clean with a dry cloth she told us not to touch the table, just the paper place mats! We reminded the waiter about our tea and he disappeared, came back and slammed a pot of tea on the table without any cups. Another waitress tried to deliver two bowls of soup we never ordered and insisted that we had ordered them. At this point we gave up and walked out. No apologies were offered. It's been along time since I've had such a good Chinese meal my my house special chow fun was amazing he mushroom chicken in clay pot just as amazing we ordered like 6 different meals and everything was delicious the egg rolls could have had a bit more flavor . The Hunan chicken awesome it wasn't fried and sweet it was cooked in a wok and spicy.. I would have given this place 5 stars but the service was odd and very unfriendly.. My kid spilled my beer and a glass of water and they didn't even clean it up they let us, know body in the whole place will crack a smile . When it was time to go we had a ton of leftover a bunch of the servers came and cleaned our table and boxed it all up for us ..
