We ordered from their lunch menu. They understand what a vegan diet is. My wife ordered spicy shrimp which was not spicy at all. I ordered string beans with tofu which was made very well. Of course I couldn't have their fried rice because it has eggs. I got white rice instead. The food was tasty and the portions were good. The staff were attentive to us and other customers. I've frequented this restaurant occasionally over the years. While the food has generally been good I just had such a bad experience that I will never return again and want to warn others. The woman at the counter who took my carry out order overcharged the tax on my order by 10 per cent. When I tried to explain that it was an overcharge she nastily told me that was the tax amount. While there I looked up the tax amount on line to confirm I wasn't mistaken. I then told another young lady who was working there that I wanted to speak to the first lady again about the overcharge. The second lady came back with my carry out order, took a dollar out of the register and told me the first lady wanted me to leave and never come back again. You can bet I won't. Ordered that Salt and Pepper Chicken and it was exactly what I was hoping for. I haven't had this dish since working in San RafaeL. Tommy's Bistro at montecito plaza has a similar dish I had been craving. Hunan Village hit the mark and actually surpassed. The chicken was light and crispy and not overly oily. The green beans, onions and jalapeños were sautéed perfectly. I will have this again. I also had their chicken fried rice which was a perfect complement to the dish. It's a fairly standard place, in the Plaza shopping centre in East Petaluma, with minimal decor, but at least has some modicum of effort at improving the amience. That said, we go here for ethe food and service, not the ambience. Food, for what it is, is excellent. We've had, among other things, the Szechuan bee - nicely spicy but balanced and flavourful with nice crispy fried texture (5); General chicken, very flavourful with plenty of sauce, although not as cripsy outside as it could be (4.5); string beans, with wonderful texture, firm but not too firm, and nicely mildly spicy flavour (5). I imagine this is just a leftover from the pandemic when dining-in was closed and restaurants got used to not having folks inside. On weekdays the lunch hour can get busy as they seem to have a loyal following. Or folks are impressed with their lunch meal options. I dined in one afternoon with my little nieces. The ladies working were so patient and kind with my "nibs," so kind in fact that I felt as if they had completely forgotten that I too was dining! My nieces enjoyed fried potstickers, some rolls and some soup. Big appetites for tiny beings! When asked whether they liked everything, they responded in cheers. Being that lamb was on the menu, I tried a Mongolian lunch special. The meat was prepared well with good flavors. Given the ample serving I was stuffed. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING LEMON CHICKEN This place is typically decent, I don't know what happened to the chef tonight. I ordered the lemon chicken to-go and it was the worst lemon chicken I've ever had in my life. They used left over chicken, re-battered it and refried it. Probably the best Chinese food in the area. The most delicious entrees, each time when we picked up the food was fresh and hot, some of the chicken was still crispy. Their online menus is easy to navigate, organized by type or meat and they have indicators of spice so they aren't misleading with their products. The bbq pork is one of best to choose when selecting the fried rice and lo mein, which we normally get one of each. They move started re-adding inside dinning to, but also being respectful of those dining by keeping some of the spacing/barriers/and social distancing. Every order we've gotten has been correct and we can normally feed our kids and a few adults for under $90. read more
