The Hot and Sour soup is absolute perfection!

This is one of the best Chinese in Petaluma. The week day lunch specials are great! I love their Broccoli Chicken, so tasty. The Szechuan Chicken is delicious also. Today I had a bowl of Hot and Sour soup. It is delicious perfection! Highly recommended!

This is an excellent place for standard, no-frills, American Chinese fare done really well. It's a fairly standard place, in the Plaza shopping centre in East Petaluma, with minimal decor, but at least has some modicum of effort at improving the amience. That said, we go here for ethe food and service, not the ambience. Food, for what it is, is excellent. We've had, among other things, the Szechuan bee - nicely spicy but balanced and flavourful with nice crispy fried texture (5); General chicken, very flavourful with plenty of sauce, although not as cripsy outside as it could be (4.5); string beans, with wonderful texture, firm but not too firm, and nicely mildly spicy flavour (5). Service is excellent, very friendly and attentive.

When I was there, chinese opera music was playing. I was told Chinatown Restaurant has been in business for about 30 years. It looks like it's been here alot longer. I was there at around 430pm on a Thursday. It seemed like only one man was running the whole restaurant. He took my order, made my drink, served other customers, then went in the back. I ordered Wor Won Ton Soup and Fried Chicken Wings. My Wor Won Ton Soup had a thin broth and was mostly zucchini and mushrooms. It had 9 dumplings, 2 shrimps, bamboo shoots, and some greens. It needed some soy sauce for seasoning. It was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. The fried wings satisfied my fried food craving. Deep fried and crispy! Came with a sweet 'n sour dip with some chinese mustard. I would like to return and try their lunch plates. I like this restaurant's old school vibe. Notes: - street parking - restrooms are men/ women, and clean.

So we got the lunch specials: Lemon Chicken with fried rice and Orange Chicken with Chow Mein. Here's what was good: The orange chicken and the chow mein. What missed the mark: The lemon chicken was bland and the fried rice needed more salt and seasoning. It was decent, but nothing to write home about.

Located on Lakeville Highway, just east of Hwy 101, it would make a good place to stop for a nice lunch or dinner. I was there on a warm Saturday, at around 11:30 am. The dining room has a contemporary asian decor. The AC kept the air cool and comfortable. There's several 2,4, and 6 seat tables. Just before lunchtime, the place was 1/3 full with customers. I was seated along the wall. I was offered a menu, and choice of hot tea or ice water. I asked for chopsticks, because the place setting had a fork. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch plate w/ fried rice. Also, I asked for an order of (Lightly Breaded) Fried Prawns. Service was excellent. My waiter was very attentive, and served my food as soon as it was ready. He told me if there were any delays. I didn't have to ask for anything. The Fried Prawns were large and plump. They were served with various sauces to choose from. The Mongolian Beef lunch plate had a nice presentation. The portion size was fair. The fried rice was moist, and blended well with the Mongolian Beef. The Mongolian Beef was spicy and tasted just right. Hot 'n Sour soup came with the lunch plate. Lily Kai's recipe for hot 'n sour soup is a little different than what you might get in most other chinese restaurants. They make it with alot of mushrooms. The familiar flavor was there, but it lacked several expected ingredients. Well, as long as it tasted good, I'm okay with it. ----------------------------------------------- So I had a great first time experience here. The plaza has a free shared parking lot. There's a Starbucks Coffee shop in the same plaza. Also, this place is down the street from the Kaiser Medical Offices. Also, they have clean and large restrooms. Lily Kai is in the Adobe Creek Center at Lakeville Hwy & South McDowell Blvd.

It was a mellow Tuesday night and when we walked in the restaurant was mostly empty, which was a little unnerving, but we were greeted promptly and warmly. We ordered an appetizer and 4 entrees between 2 adults and 2 toddlers, and nearly licked the plates clean. The banh mi sandwich, garlic noodles, and BBQ pork are to die for! But, what made the visit truly special was meeting Jenny, the owner and chef, and her husband. They came out personally to check on our table, introduced themselves, and made my husband, our two young kids, and me feel completely at home. Their warmth and genuine hospitality are rare, and it showed in every interaction. This is the kind of family-run gem you hope to stumble upon -- where the people behind the food are just as wonderful as the food itself. We'll absolutely be back!
