I thought I'd write a positive review after my meal, however, when I ended up with a black hair in my mouth, that ended it for me. I got sick so the thought of eating anymore won't happen today or tomorrow or ever! I'm housesitting out of town and want my $33.36 back but don't want to make the trip back to restaurant. Haven't been here recently myself but between my husband and his grandmother going today and my grandmother's recent experience I leave this place with a one star review, and I can say none of us will be returning anytime soon or recommending it to others. We ordered 28 items to go on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This was a huge order and everything was prepared as ordered and ready in a half hour. Each of the items was much larger than expected. They packed plenty of chopsticks, soy sauce packets, extra sweet and sour sauce, and a ton of fortune cookies. Our huge family probably ate more than they planned! Everyone was happy with the food and we had some extras to take back to our hotel for dinner the next night. Our cashier was pleasant and helpful. Having lived and eaten well in New York City, Boston, and San Francisco, since I've lived in Sonoma County, I've been consistently disappointed by two things. One is a lack of choices for really good dim sum (aside from Hang Ah, which is great but can be pricey). The other is a dearth of gluten-free choices, especially for Chinese or Asian food. China Chef in Cotati has alleviated both of my disappointments admirably. And as a plus, the place does its own delivery after 4:30 in the afternoon, avoiding the extra fees and charges of delivery services. We've ordered delivery a handful of times, and never been disappointed. We've eaten at the restaurant with friends as well. We've always been treated well and served consistently tasty, well-prepared food. I'm sorry to read of other reviewers' disappointments, but we have experienced none of them. The gluten-free baked pork buns and pot stickers are worth ordering all by themselves. (Yes, they're a bit more expensive, but so are many gluten-free ingredients in my experience.) The sautéed green beans are delicious, even to this former non-fan of green beans. The Singapore noodles have been tasty and fresh each time we've had them. Of course, your culinary mileage may vary. But ignore the negative reviews and try China Chef for yourself, especially if you like dim sum and gluten-free options. The people here are really nice, but I'm sorry to say that this is probably some of the worst Chinese food I've ever gotten from a restaurant. The meat was dry, and tasted freezer burned. Ordered via doordash and ultimately got my cravings filled. If I had to rate the food it'd be a hard 3: I got siu mai, shrimp dumpling and a Peking dinner for 1 that included wonton soup, two dumplings, fried rice (I subbed the bbq pork for beef), walnut shrimp and orange chicken. The siu mai had no shrimp and the shrimp dumpling has shrimp paste with cut shrimp pieces, not the best but not awful. Pretty sure it's frozen food. The fried rice was good but felt heavy, orange chicken is ok, dumpling skin was thick, wonton soup had three pieces but the soup itself tasted awful and walnut shrimp was the best part with a good amount of sauce. The price is a 4: total price for everything was $29. Which is really good for everything I got. Ultimately I lean more towards 4 because everything was edible, they cooked everything quickly and I have more than enough left over for dinner. read more

I got there in time for the app to tell me it was ready and waited as the owner sat in a stool and he didn't turn around at all for the 3 minutes I was waiting. The door obviously opened and you could hear it . Anyways I rang the bell that was behind him because I didn't know if he worked there or not at that point . Someone heard it from the back and yelled something and then he turned around and said "can I help you". I politely told him I'm picking up (said my name and order) and he went to the back to get it which took around 10 minutes. For 65$ the food is not worth it . The "beef chow fun" isn't even chow fun noodles and it had nothing but beef and noodles which smelled sour. The salt and pepper calamari was undercooked and cold, the orange sesame chicken was literally submerged in sauce, the cream cheese Rangoons were burnt but cold and undercooked, and the hot and sour soup literally had only essence of tofu and egg (literally specks not pieces). read more

Delightfully delicious cusisine from China Chef. The wait was a bit longer than we hoped, but the food was totally worth the wait! The sweet&sour chicken was perfectly crisped at the ends. I'm not a restauranteur nor do I bash sub quality so harshly, but this so called take out was literally garbage. The fried rice was basically white rice with a couple shrimp and cut up carrots. The egg fu young was putrid, an egg with shrimp on top. The egg rolls were dry and falling apart. There is a reason this crap was next to last on the list. After having a bad experience at this place when it was China Garden after the husband died, it rapidly went downhill. We then noticed that the name had changed and the sign said under new ownership so we decided to take a chance that we were soon come to regret. We ordered take out on Christmas day the place was crowded. They finally took our order and told my husband that it would be a half hour wait, when he went to the counter 45 minutes later to ask about our order, the owner went in the back and my husband said he watched her shovel food into containers from pans that were sitting on the counter. They charged $75 for the order and the counter person said she didn't know how to make a receipt. I totaled the order when he got home and they over charged by $12. When he got the food home, we live five minutes from the restaurant, we were dismayed to find; 1/2 filled quart container of cold Wor Wonton Soup, no vegetables, 5 wontons a few pieces of chicken and 2 overcooked shrimp. House Chow Fun in a cold congealed mass all the noodles stuck together, no vegetables, 2 over cooked shrimp and some chopped ham very little chicken. Cold Almond Shrimp- 9 shrimp, no vegetables, congealed mass of way too sweet gravey and about 10 pieces of sliced almond. Cold Brocolli Beef- I requested no red pepper on our order, this was loaded with it and it was the only dish that had any vegetables. Cold Lemon Chicken, small chunks of deep fried chicken in a sauce with not a hint of lemon. This is supposed to be served on shredded lettuce. I called Lisa the owner the next day to comlplain, she didn't want to hear me out but did say to come by and she would give me a voucher for $50 she was very curt and didn't seem surprised. My husband went to get the voucher (he said it was the same woman who had owned the place when it was China Garden) she refused to give it to him, she said she would only give him a $35 voucher take it or leave it... There are many people complaining about this restaurant, they couldn't pay me to eat there again, not when there are amazing choices like China Village and Amy's Kitchen which I eat at often and highly recommend. read more

I just git togo there and honestly I'm really disappointed. I got the honey walnut prawns and there's no walnuts. They did not separate the honey walnut prawn to the chow mein so the sauce is everywhere on the chow mein and it's really upsetting. It's all too sweet, the chow mein is plain and like I said it's disgusting. If I wanted chow mein glaze, I would've asked for a chow mein drenched in honey glaze sauce. My Favorite foods is salmon fried rice and sizzling crispy rice soup. However, I love all of the menu they have. Went there on Christmas to get some chow mein, looked at menu price was 9.95. but when they rang me up the total was 14.99. I questioned the price I was told it was Christmas prices. Of course I told them that no where on the menu or in the restaurant did it say that prices were raised due to Christmas. They didn't care, since I already paid with a card, I had to wait. What a disaster I waited 40 minutes for just a side of chow mein, while waiting I heard glass being broken in the kitchen, lots of yelling. When I finally got my chow mein , went home opened it and it was a horrible sight. 4 very small pieces of chicken 2 thin slices of carrots, and 1 slice of the green from a spring onion. The noodles were sticky, cold and had no flavor. This place is the worst Chinese food in Cotati. They've had health safety issues, people have gotten sick from the food. DO NOT EAT HERE.. The server greeted us nicely, dropped off menus and drinks, and then talked across the restaurant to take our order. They had to talk across the restaurant again to confirm the order, but when it came, it was wrong. We ordered kung pao prawns but got chicken instead. The fried rice and chow mein had no vegetables in it, no peas and carrots, no onion, cabbage or sprouts...just bland rice and noodles. And the breading on the orange beef was peculiar compared to traditional preparation (puffy and soggy instead of textured and crunchy) and it was overly spicy.
