It is Valentine's s Day 2026. I have been very sick for a long time. My wife has been taking care of me for a long time so I decided to get my energy up and repay some of her love. I mustered up my energy and ignored the leg pain and told her I felt good enough to drive and will pick up our lunch for her. Now mind you, I have not driven in 3 months. After assuring her I was fine, I drive to the Hunan Legends and parked as close as I can. Heard some good things about this place. I ordered much too much for 2 people but we can eat for days as the portions were good size. It appears that today was a day of take out as I saw no one but did see a lot of pickup order. As soon as I walked in with the cans, the owner noticed right away and without hesitation, she told her husband (I assume because he obeyed right away) that I will need help. Now I really appreciated that thoughtfulness because I did not realize I ordered 2 large bags full of food. To step in to help without being asked is thoughtfulness personified. Now the food, we mostly enjoyed all of it. There were things that should have been eaten at the restaurant like the pu pu platter. I remember as a child we frequented a place in Towson that had a little burner that cane with the pu pu platter that was so delicious. This was not the same since it had gotten cold so not fair to judge the same. I also didn't order any of my favorites because I have sacrificial love like that so enjoyed her meal thoroughly. Overall, my wife enjoyed the fresh ingredients and overall taste. I also enjoyed the food but the hospitality and kindness stood out for me. Thank you Hunan Legend. read more

My first time at Hunan Legend was this past weekend. It reminded me of Jack's Fortune in Annapolis. It was nice to see the dining room was full of people on a Saturday evening. We ordered the tangy spicy wonton and General Tso Chicken. I will have go say I really enjoyed the General Tso chicken. The service was okay. We got seated quickly but they forgot to give us menus. We asked for chopsticks and they forgot that too which was why I only gave them 3 stars. read more

Decent Takeout When You Need Something Quick I ordered takeout from Hunan Legend, and overall it was fine, nothing amazing, but it did the job when there weren't many other options around. I went with the Phoenix Chicken since it was listed as a chef recommendation. The portion was good and the food was hot when I picked it up, but the flavor was just okay. Not bad, not great, pretty much what you'd expect from a reliable neighborhood spot. If you're looking for a quick, no-frills takeout option, Hunan Legend works. He got the wonton soup as the app and Jasmine rice and I got the spring roll and fried rice. He shared his leftover chicken with me and I shared a piece of my chicken with him. Our consensus was the general tso was tastier than the honey chicken. I thought my chicken was crispier and had better flavor. The spring roll was good and crispy too. Human legend is a wonderful restaurant to visit when you're near elicott city. They started off with complimentary crispy noodles. I love the crispy noodles and to get the equivalent of free chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant is a genius move. For lunch I got the paradise chicken that came with an egg roll. The egg roll didn't come with shrimp inside but rather beef! It was fantastic, again something more places should offer. The paradise chicken was great and I might want to switch out the broccoli for rice next time. Yeah was an option instead of water. Everything was served very quickly. Ohemgee, what a great little hidden gem! The interior takes me back to Chinese restaurants from my childhood. They even serve crunchy noodles before the meal. My general tso vegge chicken was great. It had a wonderful texture, and the flavor was spot on. I love tofu, but having a vegetarian option besides tofu is always nice. Pretty sure the owners are a couple, and they serve together, too. I get carry out here often as it's one of 2 or 3 Chinese places I think are good. We've tried several dishes but pretty much stick to the same 3 now. Solid and reliable if not amazing. And they always get the order right- that matters when you get home and open the bag. read more

We ordered the carry out dinner for two in Hunan Legend restaurant: 1. Seafood with Bean Curd Soup (For 2): ingredients are not listed in the menu. 2a. Neptune's Delight: Jumbo shrimp and scallops sautéed in chef's delightful brown sauce. 2b. Seafood Combination: Squid, crab meat, shrimp, and scallops with Chinese broccoli, carrot, snow peas, and mushroom stir-fried in a light garlic sauce. The soup: tasteless, saltless seafood and vegetables boiled in the colorless, tasteless, saltless bullion. 2a, 2b: they differed only in colors of "chef's delightful brown sauce" and "a light garlic sauce", which differed from the soup liquid also only by color. Both were also tasteless and saltless. Additional crispies were fried on oil with unpleasant taste, so we throwed them away. All portions were very generous. This so-called Chinese food didn't remind me at all excellent tasty Chinese food I enjoyed in China. read more

We have been in the market for a replacement for our beloved Hunan Lion that closed several months ago in Elkridge, MD. We like authentic flavors, especially real, rich and sweet hoisin sauce used in dishes like Kung Pao Chicken or Chicken Cashew. You'll often see other places list the sauce they use as a "brown sauce." We also don't like a lot of 'fillers' in our dishes, like water chestnuts, huge chunks of bell peppers, celery, mini corn cobs.... We have always liked Hunan Manor, but they do not put spring onions in their Kung Pao Chicken or Chicken Cashew, which we believe are essential. There, we had to pay an up-charge just for the spring onions. Then a friend told us about Hunan Legend in the Dorsey's Search shopping center and we found our new Chinese spot. They even had their Morengo Delight that Hunan Lion had too. Although the Kung Pao could have been spicier, there were no fillers, just spring onions. We'll just ask for extra spicy next time. This is the best Chinese food around! The owner's of this restaurant used to also own Mandarin House in Laurel. For those that miss the real Mandarin House, This Is IT! Everything we have ever eaten here has been delicious for dine in or take out. They even offer the option of gluten free soy sauce to prepare the dishes for those in need. I come here when I need Chinese food and I'm at work. It's close and it's decent. I basically order one of two things, Singapore Noodles or Egg Foo Young. Like any egg foo young, accept mine, there's never enough vegetables so I always order vegetable Egg Foo Young, tell them to keep all those extra onions, and add shrimp. It comes out decent enough. The gravy isn't as tasty as other restaurants but when I'm in the mood for some hot Chinese food for c lunch while at work, it'll do. read more

The food is very good. We order carryout from Hunan L. a few times a month for the past 20+ yrs. I NEVER use the 10% coupon I have on my phone. (The 10% coupon is on their website HunanLegend .net. ) Our average carryout order is $ 40. They now charge if you ask for extra condiment packets. They wanted an addl 50 cents. It is now a profit center. There is no add'l cost for condiments if you eat in the restaurant. I have never complained (or even mentioned it to them) about the frequent price increases. This place came on good recommendation by friends. The staff was friendly. But of the three entrees tasted, we all agreed that all were overly sweet even though two were noted as being 'spicy' on the menu. And that was disappointing. Continually impressed by Hunan Legend! It's my family's go to to supplement big Chinese family gatherings with some delicious and dependable take out at a good price. I recently went to dine in with a family friend. The owner greeted us by name (she remembered us!) and provided excellent service. She made sure the soup and dishes we ordered were made appropriate to our spice tolerance. One of our soups was too spicy for one person in our party and she immediately offered a replacement (so nice!). Our waitress was truly warm and welcoming, asked us how we liked our food, and gave us the choice of having her pack our leftovers or us doing it ourselves (I thought it was very thoughtful to ask us).
