Ah, China Village...walked into this place and immediately thought I was in a food court of a mall in 1993! From the lights, to the furniture, prices and of course the picture board menu above the counter. Everything about China Village screamed old school and also "this about to be good"! Sitting in a small, worn out shopping plaza just off of Highway 41/Dickerson, China Village is a solid spot for cheap, plentiful and tasty Chinese takeout. It is not much to look at and if you can get past the bars on the windows, you are in store for a treat. Delivery is not offered currently and you can technically eat in, but while there are tables there, it is not really set up for a good dine-in experience. I rang them up on a Friday evening to order (2) Sesame Chicken plates and (1) Large Wonton Soup. From order to arrival was about 20 minutes, and it was hot and ready! Overall, we are new to this side of town and while the whole "no delivery" thing is a bummer, China Village is definitely our go-to spot for a cheap and tasty Chinese night in. read more

In my 31 years on this earth, I can safely say this is the worst hot and sour soup I've had. I really wish I didn't tip over 40%. The one star has nothing to do with the fact that I had to make my gun accessible in my car, because of the hood rats walking around. This soup should be illegal. It looks like they used a little bit of the sewage as part of the recipe. I hope inspection comes by and shuts this place down. They don't deserve to be open another day. Great Chinese food and great prices. We had enough food for dinner and leftovers for lunch the next day! Sesame Chicken: Flavorful and if you get it home fast enough, still has some of the crunch! Mongolian Beef: My fave. It comes w tender slices of beef and lots of onions and green onions - it makes me feel healthy for eating vegetables. Fried Dumplings: The sauce it comes with is slightly sweet, umami and tangy. Excellent! Wonton Soup: I swear these dumplings are homemade. So good! I had really hoped for better from the reviews. The shop is located on a corner of Dickerson pike and I was very glad my boyfriend was with me, the area was sketchy and as a young woman I would not have felt safe going alone. The parking lot was swimming in smushed garbage and the restaurants had metal bars on their windows. This is not to fault the restaurant at all, but again, as a young female I would want to know these factors before coming here alone at night. The service was kind and quick which was greatly appreciated. The prices can't be beat, a quart and a pint of fried rice for around $13. As far as the taste... I couldn't even bring myself to save these leftovers. My chicken was slimy and squishy, but not pink at lessr. I used to use this place two to three times a week about 3 years ago and had used it for a couple of years. Hadn't been there in a couple of years and let me tell you disappointing! I don't know if they've changed ownership but the food was terrible! The fried rice was dry and bland. Ordered the triple delight which had hardly any meat in it mostly broccoli and big chunks of green pepper and onion. We also ordered general tso's chicken and it was terrible also mushy breading no real flavor. The egg rolls and spring rolls were smaller than they used to be and they were terrible also! This used to be a great place to get Chinese food! But I would not recommend going! Waste of your money as far as I am concerned. So, as holes in the wall go, it deserves 5 stars. But we give it four, for well, you'll see. The food is as good as it comes for a mom and pop place. We experimented with a lot of the menu items. All have been made fresh and served quickly. You can keep an eye on the chef with their wide open kitchen. Service is personal and friendly. They remembered us and what we liked after only one visit. They are very accommodating with requests and unlike a lot of Chinese places don't nickel and dime you for any little thing you ask for. The place doesn't have heat, the tables and chairs have seen better days, and the dining area looks like a disorganized store room with a space heater in the middle of the floor. . Here on business in Nashville and always wanted to try local Chinese joints. This was closest to my hotel so I decided to try it. I ordered 2 food items : a hot and sour soup and a Singapore curry mai fun. The hot and sour soup was tasteless without any flavor at all. It is filled with ingredients yet the soup itself was very bland. Would not get this again . On the other hand , their Singapore curry mai fun was very good. Full of flavor but I should have asked for some hot oil to add heat to this. I understand the menu needs to cater to everyone. I get it. You can't judge a book by it's cover (unless it's a British printed Terry Pratchett book, which says everything about the book) Located in the same little strip mall as Prince's, it had me a little suspect at first. The pile of boxes had me a little wary, why would you keep trash inside. Only to find out it's recycling at it's finest. A couple of orders of anything and you'll be carrying out one of those boxes. As for the food everything I've had has been very flavourful. The kitchen is in full view so you can see what's being cooked if you haven't already called in your order. The staff are very friendly. This is pretty standard fare Chinese food. It's done pretty well for an extremely inexpensive price and handed out by people that seem to care about their customers. That's about it for China Village... The atmosphere here is nonexistent. You can come in and sit if you want but their seats are mostly for patrons to hang out while their dumplings are being steamed. I spent my time mesmerized watching the guy cooking with the wok toss everything and alternately use the water tap above him to clean his super hot pan. Made it go quickly. For the food, my wife and I wanted Chinese food and got Chinese food. This is pretty standard and greasy Americanized Chinese food but it's tasty nonetheless. Also, and this is important, they are open late. I moved here recently, and have been put out by how early most food establishments close. Not these folks. Oh dang, super good first experience here. I got General Tso's chicken combination spicy with fried rice and egg roll $7.00 and change. Friday night it was super busy but the order came up in 10 minutes and they threw in some fried fish triangles of some sort that weren't great but it was a nice gesture...not sure why they did that though. Well first I would like to say that the sesame chicken combo I ordered was scrumptious, only my egg roll was a little over cooked. However I was a little bit skeptical of the appearance of the store. Everyone was friendly and the lady that took our order did it promptly. My friend and I didn't wait long for food. When it came it was fresh and really hot, like burn your mouth hot. Seemed like the cooks and owners were more worried about their lunch as they all sat down eating except for the one cook in the back working on our stuff. The bar for Chinese is set low in Nashville, and China Village falls below it. Housed in a dingy strip mall next to Princes Hot Chicken, China Village has none of its neighbor's appeal. The folks here are working hard, keeping the place clean, while turning out fried American Chinese food that is a step below Manchu wok. I hope this family sees the light, and opens up in better location, charges more, and uses higher quality food. In East Nashville, the owner's hard working attitude could finally fill the East Nashville Chinese food desert. The fried rice is dry and precooked, only to be reheated with your favorite meat. The Kung Pao Chicken had a brown sauce and was filled with low quality vegetables like celery to save cost. If you want to stuff your face with cheap Chinese-American food this place could fit the bill, but if you want real Chinese food, don't even think about it. I used to live down the street from this hole-in-the-wall. Some of the floor tiles are missing, the woman who takes your order can sometimes get irritated when you asked her to repeat herself too many times, and parking is almost non-existent on weekends (it's in the same strip mall as the famous Prince's Hot Chicken.) I am not exaggerating when I say this the most delicious Chinese food I have had. If you're looking for gourmet Chinese, you won't find it here. And if you want any traditional, non-Americanized food, you can't order it from the menu; you just have to know it. The food is always hot and cooked to perfection. My favorite dish is the Shrimp Lo Mein, which is an American dish, but oh so delish. A pint can last me the entire day. It is the milder version(sugar added) of Hunan Chicken and it is an American dish created by an exiled Chinese chef that arrived in the US in the 70's. knowing that most Americans palates at that time were tender to Asian cooking. I work close by and wanted General Tso's chicken for lunch. There was no wait at noon, the order came out quickly and smelled good.. I ordered it to go and brought it back to work to eat. I ordered the fried rice without onions and that was correct. I like spicy food and usually get the general's chicken when I eat Chinese. This could have been a little hotter, it was very mild but still a good flavor. The rice needed to be cooked longer as it was crunchy in the center. My biggest problem was it was very salty more so than any other Chinese restaurant I have eaten at.
