The chicken in my meal was so overcooked and dry that it was not edible, not even close to being edible much less chewable. The second meal was only slightly better. We've been on a long mission to find good local Chinese take-out. A friend who lives a few blocks away from China Wok recommended them, even though they are about ten minutes from home. Tonight we placed our second order in a week and they did not disappoint. We called in our order, they double checked everything with us and told us 15-20 minutes each time. When I arrived they had the front door propped open and had installed an acrylic barrier with a sliding door. The barrier also had a table with a drawer marked for cash, a box containing a credit card reader, and a bottle of hand sanitizer. Additionally, they had moved their register table and condiments to the doorway. No one could enter the building, everything was handled from the doorway. The employee at the door was wearing a mask and took your phone number to retrieve your order. All of the food we received was hot and well prepared. Over two visits we had a number of dishes. The Steamed Dumplings ($5.65) had eight big dumplings with a lot of tasty filling. The Egg Rolls, included with the combination entrees were crisp, not greasy, and packed with filling. My husband ordered the General Tso's Chicken Combo ($8.35) both times. While it's his go-to and he said it was very good, it lacked spice for his taste. On one visit I had a small Hot and Spicy Shrimp ($6.75) it came with six large shrimp and a ton of stirfried onions, peas, and carrots with just enough spice. The second time I ordered the Chicken with Garlic Sauce Combo ($8.35) it had plenty of thin-sliced moist chicken, lots of stirfried vegetables, and a rich spicy brown sauce. Today marks the 2nd and the last time I frequent this business. I gave it a second chance, but unfortunately had the same poor results. They put a price on every little request. Ordered 2 dinners for $10.75 each. $21.50 + tax, right? Wrong. Had a bill of $28 & change. Dinners come with entree, fried rice & egg roll. No soup, soup is extra. Typically, combo meals come with both egg roll & soup. We decided on soup instead of egg rolls & granted, they did do an even exchange for that, I give them credit for this. However, I ordered half wonton & half egg drop soup (mixed) for both. I received an up charge of $1.50 per soup for mixing. I told them to just give 1 egg drop & 1 wonton instead & we will mix ourself at home, saving $3 instantly! I asked for a pack of "crunchy's" for each soup, I was told there will be a charge of .85 cents each. Another almost $2. just luke that! These normally come free with orders elsewhere. This was almost $5 in up charges. After home, we were also disappointed to find we had no fortune cookies. Come on China Wok, this is the best part and what makes a Chinese meal fun, sharing & comparing fortunes! I am guessing they would have been extra too. I was so disappointed. This is more of a take out business, there are tables, but they seem to be more for people to sit & wait for their to-go orders and there is no table service that I noticed and no ambiance. You just order at the counter & grab a seat. The food is mediocre, not bad, but nothing special. I found the lady behind the counter to have a flat attitude, she was to the point, but not very friendly. I got the feeling I could either "like it or lump it". I will take my business elsewhere from now on to an establishment that does not want to squeeze every little penny out of me, but instead will strive to make me want to come back offering a little more generosity, grace & appreciation. read more

Cheap, easy, efficient, filling, quantity, tasty, variety, convenient and you know what you're getting. This is a typical Chinese food spot. I order here maybe twice a month. Some items like the egg rolls are bland and the sweet and sour pork can be pretty heavy (yet delicious). Everything else is pretty good! The "combinations" (main, egg roll, pork fried rice), not worth it in my opinion because you get more bang for your buck if you just get the main, it comes with rice and it can feed 2-3 people. read more

I'm not sure if there are new owners or not but several months ago I ordered it and it had gone down hill quite a bit. It was very disappointing. But I decided to give it another try and was beyond pleasantly surprised. The food was exactly like it used to be. It was a little odd that it was served with yellow rice and not fried rice, but it really didn't matter. Because my shrimp with garlic sauce was absolutely amazing. Surprisingly good for what it is, and miles above the other fast food Chinese restaurants I've been to in the area. Considering how quick and cheap they are, their quality is not bad at all. One thing that I LOVE is that they put the sauce for my sweet and sour chicken in a separate container, so it was still perfectly crunchy when I got home instead of soggy from swimming in sauce. Wonderful! The chicken was all white meat, and the sauce was nicely tangy without being overpowering. The pork fried rice was obviously made with frozen vegetables, but I appreciate that there were lots of veggies and even little chunks of pork in it. It was tasty but a very mild flavor. The wonton soup, I was told, is pork dumplings in chicken broth. The broth is delicious, but I was not a big fan of the wontons, which they do not skimp on. The wonton wrappers were very thick and doughy, which is not to my liking, but that's just a personal preference (I like the ones with the paper-thin, almost see-through wrappers that practically melt in your mouth). Overall, this is great fast food and I am looking forward to trying more items on the menu. The only thing that could make them better, in my opinion, would be to deliver. Best Chinese takeout I've come across in a while in the local area. I honestly kick myself for not coming here and trying it sooner. Their prices are fair, currently they keep their lobby closed due to Covid and have your order ready at the front main door through a plexiglass opening. This is no big deal. They're just trying to protect themselves and you. No difference to the quality or freshness of food delivery. We love the shrimp chow mein, bourbon chicken, wings, fried rice, egg rolls, steamed dumplings, and the house lo mein. Those are our main faves but everything so far we have ordered we really enjoyed. This Chinese takeout spot certainly delivers satisfaction! read more

After some debate we decided to give Door Dash a try. We wanted Chinese so we looked on Yelp and China Wok had a great 4 star rating so we thought let's give 'em a try. *This is going to have a short review of Door Dash as well* so let's start there... First time customers get "FREE" delivery. They had a section where you could edit your delivery instructions which I thought was a nice touch. Although China Wok managed to mess up a simple instruction - more on that later. They quoted a 26 - 36 min delivery time which isn't too bad as long as the food is hot when it arrives. The web site has a clean UI and is easy to navigate to find exactly what food you're looking for - the actual order process was quick and easy probably 2 mins tops from landing there and clicking "order". So Door Dash gets 4 stars. The reason I took off the fifth star is because at the end of ordering they auto select the 2nd highest tip level instead of letting the customer pick one themselves. Not cool. Now onto China Wok. I should finish up what happened on the delivery since it was the restaurants fault for not putting my instruction on the ticket. I clearly put for delivery instructions "side door only" since it has easy access just down the driveway and there is no easy access to the front door of our home because of the fence. Well the driver decides to jam the fence and gate open and knocks on the front door only once, drops the bag on the lowest stair and takes off. I know cos I watched the whole thing - since I heard the gate being rattled back and forth. Anyway, once we got the bag inside we were a bit underwhelmed and here's why: When me and the wife try a Chinese place for the first time we always go with two dishes that will tell you right away about their food and their cooks. Egg rolls are a common side and this place only charged $1.20 each so we were curious how good they were cos it's the first thing to look at to see how good the other food will be. Out of a 1-10 I'd say a 4. Not too greasy but not very tasty either and it was just mostly cabbage which while ok IMO great egg rolls will have some meat in them with some other veggies as well. Egg Rolls - cooked well but the ingredients were meh. We go with a Pu Pu Platter to get an idea of how good their cooks are with different meats. The Pu Pu Platter for those who've never had one features a great assortment of meats - seafood, beef, pork and chicken. Will start with the shrimp roll. Texture ok except for 1/4 of it that was way too well done - almost burnt. The shrimp was ok. The breading had no taste whatsoever - had to dip in the sweet and sour which kinda defeats the whole purpose. The shrimp roll should be tasty enough by itself so you can enjoy the taste of the shrimp. The chicken wing was cooked ok, crispy but again had no taste. The chicken inside was cooked just fine it was just disappointing because the outside breading had no taste to it. The bbq pork rib was cooked in some sauce but again tasteless you literally had to dip it in the sweet and sour sauce container that came with the order (btw, only filled halfway - ouch!) to have the rib have any taste to it at all. Finally, there was one meat that had "some" taste to it - the Teriyaki beef on a stick...unfortunately you only get one each and it's a very SMALL piece. So bottom line - the cooks do a good enough job of not screwing up the food by under or overcooking it - the problem lies with who wrote the recipes - all the dishes with the exception of the Teriyaki beef were literally tasteless! Be ready to dip EVERYTHING in the sweet and sour or mustard to get any kind of taste from this Chinese food. Finally, pricewise the Pu Pu platter was $12.50 a little pricey for the small amount of food you get (in other words for 2 people there were no left overs and neither of us were filled up after eating). The 2 egg rolls were $1.20/ea so with the drivers tip it was almost $23.00 bucks. I mean it was ok food just not memorable at all and probably won't be ordering again. Door Dash gets a pass this time for the screwed up delivery. read more

Let's face the facts. All quick service walk up Chinese joints lose 1 star just because it's basically just another type of "fast food". The rest was in China Woks 'lil Asian hands and they fumbled the 2nd star leaving them at Dull 3. Why the fumble you ask? 1. Weird tasting shrimp 2. Strange soggy inside egg roll with who knows what inside. 3. Can't take simple orders In slow pronounced English to, "extra fry the rice until golden brown and crisp". Geez people you do live in America?! Clean out your ears jerky and make the rice crispy!!! How hard is it?!?! 4. They don't do white meat chicken in key dishes. That causes me some pause for concern if ya know what I mean? Meow. Meow....I kid,I kid. 5. The actually up charge you for the real hot mustard and sauces that come on the dish itself. Greedy and short sided. Plus the sauce ain't that good to be charging more for it. In closing the Honey sesame Chicken was real crispy and tasty. Still no delicious, authentic NY style Chinese food to speak of in St.Pete. Just a bunch of copy cats that have the same food service and boring menus. So disappointing. read more

This is the sixth Chinese take-out I've tried since moving to St Petersburg. I now have a second favorite. The service was friendly, the place clean, and the food enjoyable. My order was a combination dinner: General Tso's Chicken with pork fried rice. The meat was tasty and not over cooked, but missing dry chile peppers. I like that spicy punch. The pork fried rice had plenty of veggies and meat. Neither item was oily or greasy, and the salt content perfect....No lingering aftertastes or repeating flavours, and nice portion. First time I have tried this restaurant. Compared to other china locations this tops it all. First of all the restaurant is very clean and attractive to walk in to. The people are very pleasant. And when I had my dinner which was the krab ragoon and the egg roll, it was the best U have had yet in this area. Not over cooked and not to much fried dough as well. Just right. The food there has been pretty good but I ordered on Friday and when I got it home it was not very good. The House special fried rice was flavorless and didn't have much special in it. The pan fried dumplings which are a favorite were terrible. They were the type you would get in the freezer section at the grocery store and definitely not made there and not what they had in the past. I was disappointed, so I stopped by there on Saturday to ask about it. I was told that the manager said that they take too long to make so they would only have the type I got. Surprisingly good food for a little strip mall Chinese place. You will be able to understand whoever answers the phone and the food is ALWAYS ready in 10-15 minutes. They don't do delivery so that is a minus if you are into that kind of thing. I highly recommend the egg rolls they are only 1.10 and are the BEST I have ever had. The hot and sour soup is especially unique as they use tofu! Many vegetarian options as well. It is slightly pricey in that it's hard to make it out of there under $25(for 2) but that's not too bad considering the quality and the amount of leftovers I typically have! I am picky about my lo mein I guess im use to eating hibachi so I crave that freshness you don't always get from a Chinese Takeout this is why I only gave them 3 stars because I found the lo mein to be disappointing I had to spruce it up with soy sauce and garlic when I got home. Stop by Publix next store and get yourself some yumyum sauce that makes the meal!!!! Friendly staff. I did enjoy the seasme chicken order it spicy! My neice loved their rice. Eggrolls were small but tasty.I will be back but I will stick to the combination platters. Crab Ragoon is deliciousness. Prices are fair its your typical takeout location..
