After passing this place all the time I finally decided to give it a try - overall I'm happy I did! I got the general tso's combo. The price is fair ($11) & the portions were generous. I subbed the fried rice that the combo comes with for vegetable chow mein (+$2). The chicken was crunchy and flavorful (though not as spicy as I prefer but it's always hit or miss with spice on general tso's, nothing a little extra pepper flakes couldn't fix). Everybody has their hole in the wall place for americanized chinese food and this is mine. I've been going here since I was little and one of the men working behind the counter was a teenager. We've moved all around St. Pete yet still make the voyage over here whenever we want chinese takeout because it's that good. My family quite literally won't get takeout chinese elsewhere. We always get a lo mein, bourbon chicken, crab rangoon, and general tsos. They are consistently good and I can't tell you the last time they've messed up our order or given us less than ideal food. The food and menu hasn't changed over the years and neither has the quality. I know the place only had 4 stars, but I wholeheartedly recommend this place and will defend it to anyone. This place is a staple in my family's life and honestly of my childhood. The food itself is always hot and sizable portions for how much you pay. I've never had undercooked chicken or lo mein. Food takes a bit to come out but it is good. The sweet and sour chicken is different than usual, but it was really good. It is just smaller bits of chicken as opposed to the bigger ones. The sauce was also more citrusy than normal, but I enjoyed it. read more

Used this takeout for over 15 years. Over time there have been misses (ok), but there are more and more disappointments (wrong orders, late, quality) more frequently. Today, ordered a dish $13.75, at pickup pork fried rice had been added pushing the total to $19. I questioned then left the store. Only offering was "but it's already made". From the reviews, I was hopeful that I might find some good Chinese food in St. Pete. But, that was not the case. The food here is OK, but nothing special. They also seem to be a little over the top about COVID - especially for Florida. Most restaurants are full open, here they are still handing packages through a plexiglass box. What a poor excuse for Chinese food! I ordered the orange chicken combination and basically all it is is the same little pre-batter chicken strips they use for sweet-and-sour chicken, but they included a sauce that was basically just orange flavored water. They shouldn't even be allowed to call it orange chicken. Panda express is so much better than their poor excuse It's not even funny. I was there last night and every little table was buzzing, the phone was ringing off the hook and there were three of us at the counter. I don't understand the 3 star average, Inam literally eating my way through the entire menu and have enjoyed every entree so far. 2 stars because the cashier was friendly. the chicken egg roll I got tasted burnt.. the fryers haven't seen an oil change in quite sometime. I grew up in the restaurant industry.. not rocket science to know difference between clean fryers and dirty fryers. my chicken fried rice.. not sure what kind of "chicken" they use, but to my knowledge and past experiences with chicken, it isn't suppose to be chewy and fatty. I was starving and drove 15 minutes out of my way, So i picked the "chicken" out and just ate the rice with veggies. I hate to say it, but the meal was not worth $13. very disappointed. I came into Asian Wok kind-of spontaneously. We were hungry and wanted cheap grub, so this was the option. I was worried they wouldn't have anything vegetarian/vegan friendly, but I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere here is kind of typical. There are a few tables, but it's not ideal for eating inside. It gets crowded and it's small. You can see into the kitchen, and I like that. I think I noticed a cook dumping out a plastic-clamshell container of food back into a pan though, and I'm not sure what was going on there but I didn't like it. The staff is friendly enough. They aren't super nice, but they aren't disgruntled either. I can't complain too much on this front. They did their job, and that's all that was really required of them. The food was okay. I've had a lot of terrible tofu from Chinese/Asian restaurants in my lifetime, and this tofu was pretty good. The sauce was mediocre though. It could have been a lot spicier for general tso's tofu. It didn't even burn a little bit. The broccoli that was mixed in was good though. Broccoli in these dishes are often overcooked and disgusting. I gobbled up the broccoli because it was perfectly cooked. Surprise! The portion sizes are huge for the price you pay. My meal was $8 and some change, and that was enough to feed me three times. You can't beat that. I mean, I can't even make that dish at home for cheaper than that cost. Though, I could probably make it a little tastier and healthier. I know I'll probably end up back here at some point. I'll also probably get the same dish, but extra crispy this time. I appreciate having tofu as an option, so this restaurant gets a solid three stars from me. If you're vegetarian/vegan in the area, I highly recommend checking them out. read more

'Asian Wok' is my fifth Chinese take-out I've tried since moving to St Petersburg. I'm still trying others in town, but compared to the other 'Asian Wok' is so the far the best. I always order the same dishes: General Tso's Chicken, Fried Dumplings, Pork Fried Rice and Chicken Lo Mein. Their chicken has the perfect bite size chunks, plenty of flavour and they cook it with dry chile peppers which other places do not. Their dumplings are not oversized so the ratio of meat to dough is balanced and their sauce has scallion bits in it... yay! Both their fried rice and lo mein are not oily or greasy, with enough meat and veggies to make these dishes right. Lastly I did not find their food too salty, but the portions could be a little larger..... Give them a try. read more

We get their lunch special about 1 time per week. The bourbon chicken is very good. A lot of white meat. Good portions for the price. I will say, it can take awhile for your food. We call ahead, drive from Pasadena and sometimes we still wait but atleast it's worth it. Their fried chicken options are bad, but it can be a lot breading. Still good flavor though. The boneless BBQ spare-ribs combination is one of the best values I have ever come across. Located in a busy Publix plaza, one would think they get a lot of business. That's just the case. This Asian Wok is extremely busy during lunch time. If you try calling more than once with no answer..try again. The food is worth the wait. Their lunch special comes with a side of pork fried rice, your item and a soda for $5.25. Price is average for lunch special. So far I've tried their beef and broccoli, Kung pao chicken, shrimp lo mein, wonton soup, hot soup soup, and shrimp fried rice. They're all equally delicious. Owner who has a strong Chinese accent yelled out an order, I did not understand the second portion of what he said but I understood the first part. Assuming it was for me I stood up to reach for the food. A second customer did the same. As the owner repeated the order he said in a strong Asian accent "you no hear? I'm speaking English right?" I would have appreciated it if certain business owners proceeded to make fun off customers when they left or in the back. Not in front of them. Asian Wok is a yummy place to grab some food to take home. The soup is flavorful and seasoned well. I usually have egg drop soup and this is piping hot and soothing. It is just what you need when you are hungry, have a cold, or it is cold outside. Sweet and sour chicken is consistent and solid. Nothing fabulous but good and satisfying. Sauce is not too thin and coats chicken well. Orange chicken has good flavor. General tso chicken is not too spicy. All combos are filling and a great value for the price. Crab rangoons are satisfying but nothing special. On the way home, this is a consistent and good place to grab dinner or lunch. read more
