There's plenty of umbrellaed tables and picnic tables. They have a full menu of apps, seafood, and burgers. Their whole fried snapper is one of our favorite fish, and Hookin' serves a generous serving, perfectly tender and sweet, in a light crispy layer of coating, on a regular soft bun, with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. Their Fried Wahoo is also well-prepared. We got fried, and it was tender and fresh. Both fish came with a heaping serving of hot crispy fries. You could also get either fish blackened, and you could add various veggies as sides. We ordered our food and also picked it up ourselves at the bar. Hookin' can get crowded, especially when they have a live musician, and parking can get pretty tight. It's just off I-275 at 22nd St, in St. Pete Fl east of Gulfport. They keep their social media pretty up-to-date, but we didn't track down a "regular" webpage.

I understand every restaurant has its own procedures, but I was surprised when I simply asked if the oysters could be disengaged from the shell before serving. I was told, "We don't do that here," and was then advised to use my fork. The reason an oyster knife exists is because separating the oyster cleanly from the shell takes a quick, precise cut -- it is not the same as trying to pull it loose with a fork. This was a small request, but it made a big difference in the experience. I even have a picture showing part of the oyster muscle still attached to the shell, which is exactly what happens when it is not properly released. The oysters themselves were good, and I would still rate them 3 out of 5 stars. My hope is that management understands this was not a complaint about the oysters, but about a simple gesture of service that would have taken only a moment and made the experience much better.
