I've been ordering from Ching's Table for over 20 years. I travel 30-35 minutes to get to New Canaan from Fairfield CT. I always felt it was worth the time in order to enjoy one of the finest Pan Asian Restaurants on the East Coast. Sadly I will not be making that trip again. I'm not sure what has happened but the quality of the food at Ching's is no longer the standard bearer for excellence. On the contrary, it has slipped into mediocrity. Three times in the past year I've been disappointed with the ginger scallion duck, tempura shrimp and several other signature dishes I've enjoyed over the years. Ah. The place is ok. Very heavy oil use. The steamed dumplings were fantastic. The duck potsticks were good but oily. Hot and sour soup was very good and the wanton seaweed soup was ok The chow fun was way way way too oily. The veggie pad Thai was excellent. The ambiance was a bit eclectic but tasteful fast food delivery but they didn't clear the table betwee. Courses so that was awkward and they asked me to hand onto my fork. Really? This restaurant is way too expensive to be asking you keep your fork. No sure I will give it a second chance. read more

Chings Table is by far my favorite Asian fusion restaurant ever. I have been to many different places and every single places lacks the amount of flavor and freshness Chings always brings to the table. From their amazing lunch specials to their dinner, everything is always delicious. I moved out of CT and go to Chings every single time I visit. Their Szechuan dumplings are a MUST try if you haven't already. Not sure why this place has gotten 3.5 stars because wow. Although, I will say this! Last time I went there and had their chicken dumplings, I noticed they had a different wrapper...which was disappointing because the texture of the other once it was fried was amazing...the dumpling was still really good but I highly suggest they go back to their original wrapper for those dumplings. read more

As a Chineese restaurant I was totally disappointed by their food for example the ginger chicken should be cooked with ginger not by placing ginger strips on the chicken after it's cooked. Also the rice portions in the price fixe was very small. i like thai and chinese cuisine, and chings is some of the best asian-fusion food I have had in CT. Worth a trip into New Canaan. there were a lot of options for vegetarians, with very good service even when they are busy. i like the pad thai here, and we had some ice cream (i think it was green tea) that also was interesting. parking in New Canaan isn't too hard if you know where to look.. circle around a few times and you can usually find a spot within walking distance. read more

Decided to have lunch here today. The lunch menu had a good selection of options beginning with an appetizer and a main dish. We've been here before bout have to say the food was beyond tasteless. The Vietnamese spring rolls were fine. The Japanese ramen with honey ribs was unremarkable. In fact a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup would have had more taste and flavor. My wife had the chicken dumplings (meh) and the sesame crusted salmon. The salmon itself had zero flavor and was like cardboard. Have to say the waiter was friendly. It seems the quaint but small downtown area eateries was more geared to dinner time event. Ching's Table was conveniently open. The service was friendly with a few other patrons in the restaurant. You got Chinese, Chinese, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia. We opted for the lunch time deal appetizer and main pre-pixe offerings. I started with the Wonton Soup and my friend got the Thai crab cakes to start and Crispy snapper and Asian Grilled chicken. Is the Chicken Asian because it sat on top of Bokchoy and rubbed with Lemongrass? The wonton soup was bland and watery. The crab cakes was decent. The entrees were plated nicely. The fish was crispy. The chicken in a sauce was slightly sweet. The two looked like the same dish and sauce except for different protein. Overall, the meal was reasonable. We didn't expect much in the land of fussy whiteville eaters of Connecticut and we are spoiled with great Asian cuisine in the city(New York City). Disappointing at best. My mom and aunt swore by this place 15 years ago and I was so excited to try it! What a let down the restaurant was just out of date the chairs are really uncomfortable and there stereo system had grime and dust all over it. The food was bland and the vegetables were undercooked. Ching's table is great. Their food is really delicious and flavorful and they offer nice sized portions at pretty reasonable prices. I usually get the Honey Crisp Walnut Chicken and Shrimp. They give you about ten pieces of chicken,three large panko breaded shrimp, string beans, rice and honey walnuts so it is plenty of food to share. The staff is especially friendly. They also offer great lunch specials. Some of the other customers dining around you can be very snooty but thats New Canaan for ya. read more

My friend & coworker who was working up in the state with me for months declared this the worst meal he ate in Connecticut and he was right on the mark. Some article the place had plastered up in the front supposedly named this place one of the countries best Asian restaurants or something like that and that is simply ludicrous, I am calling for that writers resignation. I don't even believe this could be New Canaan's best. The food was appealing and expensive, perhaps the worst combination of traits. The worst offender was probably the pu-pu platter of dumplings, the contents of which were indistinguishable other than they were all tried out and nauseating. The duck breast which was like 30 bucks was as dried out and tough as an old shoe. Had a terrific Saturday lunch here. Attractive restaurant on a very pretty street in a very pretty town. Friendly and attentive staff. The three of us all had the $10.50 lunch special. One started with the spring roll and the others had the (healthier) summer roll. All were delicious. We all ordered the Vietnamese salad with chicken as our entree. Wow, what a great choice! This crunchy salad contained a generous amount of crushed, toasted peanuts, a plethora of vegetables including jicama, a generous amount of moist and delicious grilled chicken (beautifully seasoned, too) and a light vinaigrette that really melded these elements in a most delightful way. Iced coffee was delicious, as well, as might be expected in a quasi-Vietnamese restaurant. Highly recommend this place for lunch. With a score of 4-2, the winners beat the not-so's in the food category. Four of our dishes were excellent and the other two approached inedible. They have the best Szechuan dumplings in the area, different and larger than its sister restaurant in town, Sushi 25. Tables can be small if certain dishes are ordered since they require a good deal of geography. Wines are a little pricey but mixed drinks are more in line with other places. Quick thoughts: Pork Dim Sum - Four pieces with good flavor and a delicate wrap; Szechuan Dumplings- Best around, with great peanut butter sauce and just a little kick in the filling; Peking Duck - great preparation served with four wrappers. Served on three separate plates which occupied a good deal of the table. A little more hoisin sauce required; Chicken Chow Fun - tasteless preparation other than the bitterness of the chicken; Tenderloin of Beef - really bad as well. The beef was prepared to requested doneness but was mealy in texture and the flavors were completely off; Sesame Chicken - Excellent dish, great flavors, and a good coating to the chicken which had a much better flavor than the chicken in the chow fun. Decent food but nothing special. Generous amount of shrimp in the pad thai, which was overly sweet (as pad thai, and cheap Asian food in general, often is). Hot and sour soup wasn't sour at all and the hot only hit later. For some reason, the mushrooms in everything were the high point. Main complaint is the price. This was literally double what I pay at my hometown's little take out place, for food not noticeably better. And charge for hot tea? I really have no complaints about this place. Asian food is one of my favorites and this place does not disappoint! Make sure you make reservations Thurs-Sunday, as it does get crowded. They have good drink list for an Asian restaurant, I like trying all the different beers! Service is relaxed but prompt, they are good at making suggestions. I love the Hot & Sour soup and the Vietnemese salad for starters. The salad is big enough to share. For entrees the beef tenderloin is as good as you can get! Normally we love this place, it's one of our go to restaurants for date night. Tonight was disappointing the service was poor, we ordered the tuna tartar which is usually amazing but this time was just meh..red snapper was really good but seared sesame tuna was horrible and we ended up sending it back. But I think what disappointed the most was the attitude from our waiter especially when we told him the tuna just didn't taste right and we wanted to send It back. I head over to this place every time I am in town visiting family, and I am never disappointed. Basically an Asian fusion gig that combines a bunch of different styles (Japanese, Chinese, Thai, to name a few) into a wonderful product. Well, I lied, there was this one time post-brother's graduation (three months back) that the waiter royally screwed up the orders-- wrong drinks, wrong appetizers, a couple of botched entrees, but that was the sole complaint I have about this place. In fact, I wouldn't even deduct a star because the waiter was exceptionally graceful under fire and more than accommodating in rectifying the mistakes (chalk it up to a bad day for the guy-- everyone has them). Their tofu dishes are phenomenal. As in ask the chef where he gets his tofu and how he prepares it so I can make this all the time at home phenomenal. Their veggie pad Thai has this interesting blend of traditional peanut sauce and spicy kick. I don't know how exactly they deliver on that, but the stuff is absolutely addicting. Drinks are pretty par for the course. Standard line up of Asian and domestic beers in bottles. Appetizer portions can be a little small, so if you're planning on sharing apps err on the side of an extra dish IMO (they have some interesting rolls to choose from). Entrees, however, are more than filling, and there has been nothing on the menu that hasn't been devoured by family members. As far as atmosphere: inviting, low-key, lots of natural sunlight. The wonton soup broth tasted like the water inside of an oyster. The dumplings were cold and there was a piece of lettuce floating in the soup. I have had great wonton soup and crappy wonton soup, but never have I had one so inedible that's I left over all the broth. The sesame chicken was over cooked and had such a thick deep fried crust, you could barely find the chicken. It was covered in a thick gelatinous sauce that mush have had a cup of sugar in it. Our son ordered fried rice, which was the only edible item on the table, but not "fried" and more like brown rice with pork and pease. Over the past 15 years, since we first started to go to the place, the food has gone from very good to making trader joe Chinese chicken and rice taste like gourmet food. Oh, did I mention the price? Take out only from now on. 4/12 for food, but 1/2 for service. This is the second time I had been here. The first tine was a Wed night years ago, and wasn't crowded and very pleasant. Went on a Saturday night and was very busy. Almost all the food was great, when it arrived, and when we got plates. And silver wear. Part of it is that our waitress had tables on two sides of the restaurant. While a table next next to us and behind us had another waitress. But everyone seemed a bit frustrated. Wasn't able to reorder refills for drinks. One of the apps came out quickly. But by the time we got plates it was cold. Then the rest of the apps come out fifteen minutes later. For the dinner, 5/6 entrees came out at once, the sixth came out fifteen minutes later. Took really long for everyone to get checks. The food was fanatics though,m except the mushu pork, which was okay, the rest was outstanding. The sesame chicken had real quality chicken. Fried rice and dumplings outstanding. And the Lo me in was a hit. Hesitant to go and eat in person on a busy night again, but definitely takeout and maybe a quiet lunch. read more
