I have passed this place a billion times and never tried it because it was on the wrong side of the street and traffic near the intersection of Arlington Hts. Rd. & McHenry Rd. is abysmal. So when a co-worker said he was ordering and did I want anything, I said sure, even though I brought my lunch that day. I wish I had eaten my lunch. This was the worst carryout ever. Lunch specials are reasonable, my hunan chicken was under $5 and came with egg roll, fried rice & fortune cookie. The rice reminded me of that delectable San Francisco treat, with the addition of frozen peas and carrots. The few shreds of chicken were tender white meat; my only regret is that there were not more of them. Overall, the entree was bland. Who says chinese is loaded with sodium? Not here! After searching, I found two lonely red chilis and resorted to chewing on them for the flavor I sought. The eggroll was not bad, it was still crispy though it was entirely cabbage. The fortune cookie was actually good...it had a faint orange flavor and was very light and crispy, thinner than the usual cookies I get at other restaurants. I don't think I'll get lunch here again...I tried to eat the leftovers for dinner and I had to toss them...just nasty. ***UPDATE***5/22/08 A bit late writing this, it happened a couple weeks ago when a co-worker ate my lunch for the 2nd time and I made him buy me lunch....so where was everyone ordering from??? Today, I had a kung pao beef for lunch, this was my second visit. Half way through I saw something black object. It was dead fly in the fried rice. See the uploaded pictures. Returned the dead fly and remaining food back to the owner. Although I got my money back but I will never get my appetite back. Check your food before eat if you are willing to try again. My favorite Chinese place! It's right by the Rosati's on Arlington Heights and 83. It's near my work so I get the lunch special a lot (which has gone up recently). I think it's at about $7. But they give you two lunches worth of food, and it is SO delicious. I always get the Mongolian beef with fried rice. It comes with an egg roll and all three of these things are beyond delicious. Dang is the owner (I think) and he is incredibly friendly. Go there more than once and he will remember you. Whenever my coworkers or I go there, he asks after the other person. Really reasonable prices and beyond-great food. Especially when it was JUST made. Very hot and fresh :D :D Highly recommend. read more

Chinn's has delicious, moderately priced food and they DELIVER. Try the hot and sour soup, its some of the best I've ever had. I would also recommend the beef with snow peapods, egg foo young (my personal fave) and the Hunan chicken. I've never had a bad meal from here. I love their Mongolian Beef. It is not the hot spicy version, but more of a teryaki version, which I prefer. My only complaint is they over do it on the yellow onions. Their meat (chicken, beef and pork) is tender and they give you a decent portion on the full dinners. Note: it is carry-out, not a dine-in restaurant. They do deliver in the evenings read more

Chinn's is as solid as it gets for Chinese in the suburbs. I've been a customer for many years and have had Chinese from many places near where I live. Chinn's is consistently the best. Family owned. Love the honey-walnut shrimp, house special lo-mein, crispy beef, and of course, house special fried rice. Don't be afraid to ask for dishes as you like them as they can change, alter, omit and add any ingredients to your liking. There is no dining in-store. Just take-out or delivery. When looking for Chinese I want pan Asian style for quickness and overall deliciousness. Chinn's does both with a price to match. The menu is huge and offers everything from chicken, beef, and shrimp. I usually get a headache from MSG when I eat Chinese and look for places that use little or none. I don't want to burn anyone... but really... this place is bland, salty and pricey. It seems a number of postings here are lunch take out. Apples and oranges compared to dinner. Your standard meat and veggies dish is bland and watery. Fried rice is nothing to write home about.... I'm sure is salted or MSG'd... man, I get dehydrated w headache. The family that I nanny for only takes out from this Chinese Restaurant so I decided to carry out some for my husband and I. I ordered the House Special Fried Rice (large), Orange Chicken, and Hot and Sour Soup. The only thing great about this place was the fried rice. The fried rice was very good with a very nice smoky flavor that my husband looks for in all his fried rices. The orange chicken on the other hand tasted too much like orange with not enough chicken flavor. I wanted some soup so I ordered the Hot and Sour soup, which was not good at all. I don't think I've ever had a bad hot and sour soup, but this one was probably the worst I have ever had. I do give the place 3 stars for the fried rice and their service. I decided to try this as I had to find a place that delivers. My usual favorite Chinese does not. I ordered their combo with shrimp with garlic sauce and veggie fried rice. I really wanted hot and sour soup and I can honestly say it was pretty good. However, my entree (shrimp with garlic sauce) was awful! First there were about 3 over cooked shrimp, an entire head of broccoli (or so it seemed), and the blandest garlic sauce I've ever tasted. Just plain bad! Never again, I will find a way to go to my favorite Chinese Restaurant, even take a cab (which would cost the same as I pd for delivery + tip). Lesson learned ... Do not stray from what you know ... It's nice that Chinn's delivers. Out of the dishes I tried, I like the Hunan chicken (I like it spicy) and Mongolian beef. However, some of the other dishes are not so good, such as orange chicken, hot and sour soup, chicken with garlic sauce etc. egg rolls and shrimp with lobster sauce are okay. I'm can't vouch for everything on Chinn's menu 'cause I'm one of those guys who gets the same thing every time. So here's what I can say for sure: Chinn's egg drop soup is absolutely fabulous! (Best I've ever had - and I order it all over the country whenever I have Chinese food!) I mean absolutely the best egg drop soup you'll ever taste!! Another dish I order is Pork Egg Foo Young. Always delicious. And recently I tried the Chicken Lettuce Wraps from his "lower fat" selection. Really really good. One more thing: When you pick up your order (I live close by and have never used their delivery) you'll be greated by Chinn and you'll find him to be one of the nicest, most likeable people you've ever met. Just stopped there on the way home gave the gentleman my order walked out to my car with it in about 12 minutes Great won ton soup Egg rolls that were not greasy. Family ran restaurant which is always the best. I think the son owns it and the parents help out. I started going here about 3 months ago for the lunch specials. Lots of options for under $10. I've gone up and down the menu and the lemon chicken lunch is my favorite. Recently I've ordered delivery and the food is always delivered quicker than they say and hot. I ordered online and the food took 65 minutes to arrive, which is strange as we live about 10 minutes away. We ordered 2 appetizers and an entree. The apps, pot stickers and crab rangoon, were good. Rangoons were almost devoid of crab, more like cream cheese rangoons. Main entree was Empress Chicken, this was terrible. The chicken was soaking in the sauce and the breading was a disgusting paste. The sauce, normally spicy and slightly sweet was almost completely flavorless. There seemed to be no seasoning on the food. We took a chance on this place instead of one that is closer(Yen Yen). I think we'll stick with the closer place next time. Bottom line: Not worth it. read more

Don't miss this delicious Chinese food restaurant. My family orders at least once a month. Best beef broccoli chow fun just like I was in Chinatown. My kids love the wonton soup and crab ragoons. The shrimp low mein has really large shrimp, fresh pea pods and bean sprouts. The 99 cents chicken fried rice great tasting and a deal too. Despite the previous reviews, I loved Chinn's food! The BBQ pork thai rice was excellent. The chicken in the Lemon Chicken was so white. I don't think I've had such lean, white chicken in chinese take out before. I would definitely go back and recommend this place to friends. read more

Just moved to the area from California and was looking for fresh Chinese take-out. This place is around the corner from my house and had good enough reviews for me to give them a try. Normally I would order ahead of time, but since it was so close I just decided to head over and place my order in-person. They did take a while to take my order and actually missed one of the items, which he remembered a few minutes later and asked me if I still wanted it. I couldn't blame the guy though. He was slammed with phone calls and dealing with what sounded like a difficult customer on the phone. He was doing the best he could. There were a few nomenclature differences on the menu that I had to sort when it came to the noodles that I am used to. Ultimately, what I ordered was not what I was expecting as I wanted what Californians call "chow mien," but that was not on the menu. I ended up getting the pan fried noodles and it was nothing like chow mien; however they were delicious and I might just get them again instead of chow mien. The orange chicken had a really fresh orange flavor. Another reviewer said it was too much orange, but I personally loved it and the chicken pieces were large, two-bite chunks. I also got the sweet & sour pork which was fresh and delicious, and they put the sweet & sour sauce in a separate container so the pork doesn't get soggy, which I really appreciated. The shrimp fried rice met my expectations and was a great addition to the other items I ordered. I'll have to admit, I did stay away from the egg rolls (which is usually my favorite thing to order) based of previous reviews. All in all, no complaints here! read more
