Went late May 2025 to the one on Sepulveda. I was disappointed with my experience since the last time I was there about a year and a half ago. First off, it was a Saturday lunch time and there was ONLY ONE waitress for the entire restaurant. I mean, a Lomo Saltado costs $26 now and a chicha morada pitcher about $18 and the gritty owners have ONLY have one waitress handling all guests??? On top of that they charge a $3+ MADE UP convenience fee per bill which is pure BS. I guess they want to pass the minimum wage increase to customers with ONLY one waitress. Poor waitress was running around like headless chicken, forgetting butter and plates for entries, taking a very long time to take orders and take bills, much less to even ask guests about how they are doing. Customers literally had to get up and go to the front desk to get anything they needed cause the waitress just would not be able to help given everything she had to handle. I will not be going here anymore to avoid having a bad experience. Chio's owner don't be so gritty and hire more waitress. It will improve your business greatly. You can afford it with those insane food prices. Remember, no customers = no business so you need to think about it do better for your customers. read more

This is the spot for Peruvian Ceviche! Authentic, Fresh, Delicious, great service and well priced. This place is a pleasure to come to every time I'm in the mood for some Peruvian ceviche. Alex was our waiter, he did an outstanding job ensuring that we had all we needed to enjoy our meal and experience. Great time! This place is a must try! I see some posts dismissing negative reviews with 'oh, they don't know what Peruvian food *really* tastes like', which might be a valid note, except... the negative reviews are very clear -- prices too high, food is poor quality, service isn't good, and the manager doesn't do anything for the customer except diss or ignore them or both. None of those things require knowing what something *really* tastes like -- they're all noting fundamental issues that should be addressed. I've lived in Peru, and for what it's worth, Chio's versions of those lovely, deliciously addictive Peruvian dishes taste like cra-, uh, really bad. Not even close. There literally isn't another Peruvian restaurant anywhere else in SFV that suffers all those issues -- watery sauce? Weirdly cut chicken that looks more like kitty-cat? Old or expired tasting ingredients? Tastes like a salt-lick? Not gonna happen in pretty much any other Peruvian restaurants. Yes, any restaurant can have a bad spell, it happens. But friends of mine from Arequipa went there recently (I warned them, but they thought 'how bad can it be? How could anyone screw up some of these dishes?). I ordered the Tallarin Verde con Vegetales ($17.99). This has quinoa, peas, mixed veggies, and is sauteed and served with fettuccine and our homemade pesto sauce. This was delicious, and something different, as when I order from Peruvian restaurants, I typically get sopa la criolla or tallarin de carne. However, I may have a new favorite. I've came to this restaurant a lot and customer service will be the reason I don't return. The new staff, meaning women servers, are extremely rude. The food is decent but their staff made it unpleasant to sit and eat at this restaurant. PS if you order take out and change your mind and want to eat at the restaurant, they will not plate it for you. Perhaps just lazy? A nice little place, right on Van Nuys Blvd. they have their own parking lot, which is really nice (if small). Outdoor seating is nice. Friendly staff. Menu seems larger than it is, many are just variations on a theme. Ceviche was ok, although the serve it in a mug/glass (which I get it their "thing") which makes it kind of hard to eat. There was one nice man there and he's the reason why we waited 45 minutes and watched everyone leave and get served before us. We were told the wait for a table was 45 minutes so we opted for takeout and watched someone get a table in 5-10 minutes. We still had to wait 45 mints for takeout and other people kept coming after us and leaving with food before us. We had a small order m: 1/2 chicken with rice and beans. Nothing major. There was a very rude lady who appeared to have some favoritism and bias. My date even noticed how she shunned me and refused to answer my questions or help us. I asked her questions in Spanish and English and she refused to acknowledge me. The nice man who had started 2 weeks prior asked her a question for me and she threw her hands up and turned around to ignore him and me. This place has great food. I go there about every other week. All there food is delicious, but my personal favorites are the rotisserie half Chichen with two sides, the Lomo Saltado, and the Ají de Gallina. The bread is also amazing along with the chicha morada (delicious drink) and their green sauce. I highly recommend this place to anybody who's looking to try Peruvian food. My son and I tried this place for dinner on Friday on our way back home. The indoor dining is small but clean and they also have outdoor dining available. The servers were friendly and welcoming and he said that they were short staffed but will do their best to serve us as fast as they can. They were busy that day but they were able to get our orders and food out without waiting too long. The food was great and tasty. My ribeye steak was a little overcooked and not too tasty but the rice was flavorful and fried bananas were yummy. I ordered medium for my steak but got it medium well. Review: Weak attempt at Peruvian cuisine! I am Peruvian and ordered the Aji de Gallina and Tallarin Verde. Both dishes were, at best, washed down versions. The traditional dishes have a complexity of flavors that draw you back for more. Chios' Tallarin Verde was a soupie surprise. The Aji de Gallina, somewhat resembled the original, but I would call it something else. It was obvious that they created an easy to cook version of the plates. I wonder if anyone in the kitchen really knew what the dishes are suppose to taste like. Sad, that it strayed far from the traditional dishes, more sad that I paid a premium for them. The Aji de Gallina was $14.99 and the Tallarin Verde was $15.99. I dont mind paying that much (or even more) for restaurant food, but I do mind paying when both the dishes were of such poor quality. I don't recall the last time I left a review, but I have been bothered about this for days. Are they trying to maximize profit by cutting angles and serving to non-peruvians who might not know what the dishes are supposed to taste like? I definitely feels like that. A simple example: Aji de Gallina is usually served with a boiled egg and a black olive, Chios did not bother adding either to my dish. :( There are a lot of Peruvian family owned restaurants in the Van Nuys area and in Los Angeles. Do yourself a favor, support them and enjoy the great flavors that Peruvian cuisine has to offer. This Peruvian will NOT be eating at Chios anymore. Lomo saltado: appreciated the way this meal was packed for a takeout order. Fries and loma were separately packed to avoid sogginess. Although, there was a lot of undercooked rice. Chicken chaufa: good size portion but lacked flavor. Tallarín verde: good flavor all around. The main reason I didn't give this place 4-5 stars was the green ají sauce. They're overpriced for the portion size, they charge an illegal (by California law) 4% "convenience fee" if you use a credit card and the staff is not attentive. Pre-Covid this was great. We order from this Peruvian restaurant all the time and they NEVER get the sauces right even though we say it on the phone CLEARLY every time. We always order two salchipapas and one chaufa de pollo... that's three dishes total. We always ask for extra white sauce and green sauce, they say yes of course. Nope... wrong. They never do. Three dishes ordered, and extra to you means two sauces TOTAL of green and ketchup with NO white sauce? Either you're dumb, completely illiterate, or don't give a shit. We should be getting three of each sauce MINIMUM... that's a given! Extra then means at least one more of each sauce... everyone knows this but you clearly can't be bothered to give good service. Speaking of service, I showed up and saw my order, and one of their employees on the phone, while the manager sat and did paperwork in the front... while five different people needed help. It was twelve minutes and THREE more phone calls before any of their employees spoke to any of us. I then had to tell them to do their job and help SOMEONE. Just stumbled upon this place when looking for a quick bite to eat with a friend. The place was very happening for almost 9 pm with almost all the tables occupied. However. They quickly cleaned a recently vacated table and seated us within a couple mins after arrival. Carlos was our server n he did a great job. Our food was fresh n served fast (bonus points). The best Peruvian restaurant in the SFV. All of the dishes that I have tried are delicious. From the classic Lomo Saltado, the succulent Pollo a la Brasa, and a few others of my favorites. This is their second location, and it's a nice one with their own parking. The service is always great, and they don't discriminate for not being Peruvian like another nearby establishment. I have taken a few friends here and they all really enjoy this place. My only slight suggestion, over a criticism is that the ají isn't that great. It's watery and lacking flavor and spice/heat. One of the items here is their plátanos, they are always perfectly ripe and pan fried to perfection. It's small details to attention that make this place stand out. I have yet to try some items on their menu so I am surely coming back again. read more

CPG's second outpost in Van Nuys is a glass-encased eatery featuring numerous proteins on the grill; one example is their parilla for two which comes with traditional beef hearts marinated in panca sauce & Peruvian spices, top sirloin, rotisserie chicken, rib eye & served with two sides and haus-made sauces. This place also prepares seafood ceviches, salads, soup and wok-fired dishes. Which I was very excited and looking forward to try them all... well; not all at once that is. Unfortunately, my visit here cannot be duplicated from their Woodland Hills location which was great. "Meh. I've experienced better" per Yelp definition. So, to preface I wanted this to become my go to place since I'm a fan of Peruvian cuisine. I won't ever knock a good food! Disheartened when I get "less than spectacular",but such is life. Seated right away. Lomo saltado (chicken) was served so quick with the rice being undercooked, salty & cold fries. Service is absolutely none existent! Luckily, I carry cash with me... would have been slapped with a convenience fee of 3% total charge for using credit/debit cards. I placed a delivery order on the website for Mother's Day dinner. I even placed the order 5 hours beforehand as a future delivery order. Got a text stating that they would deliver through door dash and sent a link to track the driver. About 30 minutes later, dinner is already late and now there is no driver assigned to my order. I tried calling the restaurant no answer. Now 45 minutes late, a new driver is assigned and now I am waiting again. I should have walked away but I didn't. From the moment we pulled into the parking lot we got hit with a very disturbing smell lingering in the air. The signs were there but we chose to ignore them. Once inside we placed our order and then noticed the dirtiest vent I have ever seen anywhere. It was caked with black dust on top of black dust. It almost looked like fur. At this point the server comes and lets us know that they are out of bread. They open at 11 AM and it is now 11:05 and they are out of bread? Poor management. Then we notice the B health score on the window. When our food arrived it looked great. We started eating and half of the fries in the saltado were very undercooked. The sauce was very watery and was under seasoned. It was extremely disappointing. We tried eating it since we were hungry but couldn't do it. After a few bites we called it quits, paid our tab and left never to return. I'm not an expert on Peruvian food but I've had my share of it over the years. Authentic, welcoming and to the point. I love places that give me what I came there for. No extra fru-fru bs, just great people, great food and great company. I came to Chio's on a whim when a friend visited and this place did not disappoint. I ordered the Tacu Tacu plate and my boyfriend and I were able to share that and a small side of fries. I left SO full and so happy. Service was great, I asked our waiter to bring us his favorite beer, and of course it was a Peruvian lager that is now one of my new favorites. I love when staff plays back with you in terms of conversation, it makes the experience so much more real. And as someone who used to be in the food industry I appreciate it that much more. To be honest I would never ever come back to this place!!!! First and last time I've visited. Service wasn't overall good, the servers were nice and attentive in the beginning. Overpriced food and it wasn't the greatest taste, I wouldn't mind paying a little high price for a tasty food. The price are crazy expensive. The parking situation is horrible and the ambiance it's not nice, music kind of loud and the servers having a whole conversation among them not minding their costumers. In the end when I was about to leave the premises I needed to used the ladies room and I was informed it was being cleaned and I was not able to use because they close at 8pm and they don't let you use the restrooms after their closing time. The sauce is my favorite part of pescado a lo macho. It's usually rich and creamy. Chio's dish need just a little more flavor for me. Not bad though! I think the most disappointing part of the dish was the cook of the fish filet. It was deep fried. I've never had it that way. before and wasn't a fan.
