The food was probably very good but it was hard to truly appreciate it when the service was so bad. To top things off when the waitress made an error on our bill she treated us like it was our fault. If I pay $100 for dinner I expect the service to match the price. In hindsight my 10% tip was way too generous. Worth the drive! My wife surprised me with reservations for the chef's table for father's day. The experience was incredible, and the food was even better. Chef/Owner JR Schoenfeld served us six phenomenal courses, from a perfected seared scallop served on cheddar grits and topped with pork belly, to a duck confit, to baked black cod that was so sweet and buttery that it tasted like a bite of heaven, to an absolutely to-die-for lamb chop. There was also a fresh tomato salad and a fruit tart topped with freshly made passionfruit sorbet. I will go again! read more

Very disappointed in the service and atmosphere. Was on a date night with my husband and was seated in between 2 large groups. It was so loud that we could not even hold a conversation. The waitress apologized but did not offer to move us. We literally had to yell our order to her. Another group of 4 sat down by us and immediately asked to be moved and commented to us on how loud it was. Our mistake was we should have left. Went here with colleagues again, after our disappointment at Republic Chophouse about 1 week and a half later. Had called earlier for a reservation for a Tuesday evening and had the back room to ourselves. I highly recommend this place if you get a chance, a little pricey, but every colleague agreed it was better than the previous restaurant we attended. The french onion soup was amazing; I had ordered the shiitake mushroom brioche appetizer and it was amazing. All the dishes ordered were excellent portion size and delicious. Unfortunately they were out of the special duck breast plate but we did get to try the last rabbit tenderloin plate. Our wait staffs were attentive and responsive and the desserts were delicious. Chives was GREAT. Last year. I am so disappointed I could cry. This was our favorite place to go. We went in a while back and the seating changed for the worse, I was bumping elbows with a complete stranger. I had to send the food back because it was cold and undercooked. We went back to give it another shot, everyone has a bad night but we were again disappointed. This is a classic case of a good thing that got too cocky for it's britches. I've been to Chives many times, and am always very happy when I leave.Love the menu choices, which they always have fish, chicken, beef/pork, vegetarian.We never get bored with it like many places because the menu changes.The quality of the ingredients are fresh and simple, yet elegant.Prices are low to moderate, something for everyone.He makes everything fresh on site, including the ice cream and salad dressings.I know this because I took one of his classes.Very fun. read more

Our service was excellent! The appetizer was wonderful and so was the presetation. However the steak was average. The ambience left a lot to be desired. The dining room was so noisey we couldn't have a conversation. Also where we were seated my husband was bumped into at least 4 times by a waitstaff (not our own). My boyfriend and I went to Chives to be impressed, and left with a bad taste in our mouths. Aside from the stellar ambiance and beautiful restaurant setting, our first impression was as pleasant as cold mashed potatoes (we'll get to that in a bit). We walked in and stood for several minutes without being greeted by a hostess, wait staff or the bartender five feet away from us. With no indication as to how we were going to be seated we felt a bit awkward in the small space. When the hostess finally came around she checked the reservation list and, surprise, we were not on it. However, we were sat at a cozy little two top near the window; but that buck stopped there. It seemed as if the wind came right through the window and the table sat on top of a vent that blasted cold air the entire time. Queue waitress. We were greeted with a smile, handed the menus, she pointed out the "specials", (pointed to the menu and said, "these are our specials"), asked for a beverage order and I told her we would like a minute to look things over. First of all, supper clubs have "specials" a fine dining establishment should be "featuring" these items for the evening and the waitress should maybe go a bit further with them then to point them out. Then I skimmed the wine list and realized we forgot to take out a loan before we came so we could enjoy a bottle of wine with our dinner. Waitress returns, one minute later, and I order a glass of wine and my boyfriend a beer. That is when I make the realization that she is wearing jean shorts! COME ON! Meet me halfway here! They expect me to appreciate that THEY are the creme de la creme of Green Bay's scene and they don't have the decency to show up in a manner that says as much! If my waitress gets to wear jean shorts to work I want a $30 bottle of wine. Now, we wait for our drinks....and wait....and wait....and wait.....and wait....and...you get it. We can't get our waitresses attention because she is ever so busy with the "chef table" next to us. They came to spend a boatload of money, we came for a nice dinner...so I understand where her interests lie. Very many minutes later she returns with our appetizer, we ask for our drinks and she can't BELIEVE someone else didn't bring them out for her! SHE brought the champagne to the table next to us. She hustles over to the bar and back with our drinks and asks if we would like to order, I tell her I'm not sure we'd like to stay. THEN, she offers to take care of our drinks for us. Because it was 9:00 by then and we were on the other side of Jupiter from every other restaurant in town, we stayed. We ordered crab cakes and split the filet. I did not want to spend any more money than we absolutely had to on any more disappointing experiences at Chives. Both items were presented beautifully. The crab cakes were delicious and accompanied by a fennel and apple salad that was refreshing and delightful. The filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare, but it was cold and the pile of mashed potatoes underneath were icy. The port wine reduction sauce was good but unimaginative. So, overall the filet missed the mark for me. I had heard nothing but wonderful things about Chives and nearly everyone recommended it as their first choice for our first night out as newcomers to Green Bay. The moral of the story here for me is; your restaurant's reputation does not maintain itself. Every interaction with every guest should showcase the exquisite dining experience we were hoping for. Or else, like us, your guests will not be back. read more

What can I say? It's simply the best restaurant in the area! My husband and I go at least twice a year, it is pricey but SO worth it, it's never disappointing. I always order the same thing, medium rare ribeye and every single time it's cooked to perfection and the meat is so tender that you can cut it with a fork. This restaurant is in one word incredible. You get an incredible appetizer no matter what you get but I recommend the crab cakes. Your meal is just perfect from every angle. I got the lemon chicken and will recommend that to anyone who likes chicken. And for anyone who doesn't love lemons it doesn't taste too much like lemon, but the lemon just makes it so much more juicy. It is placed on top of potatoes and has broccoli rabe but it is so good. It is a buttery treat sautéed in garlic and oil. But the last part of the meal is really what separates this restaurant from great to one of the best. I tried 2 desserts. The first one was a homemade ice cream and the ice cream of the day was mint chip. It was great. The chocolate chips were grated so they were not hard when you bit them and the ice cream was not far from perfect. And lastly I would love to praise the seasonal selection which was pretty close to an apple strudel but I really couldn't describe it as well as the waitress. Either way it was exceptional and I definitely recommend this treat if your looking for a desert after your meal. All in all the food, service, drinks, and wait time were all great. And if I do return I will want to try to burger. I was planning on getting this but they do not serve it on weekends unfortunately. This place is absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere is great. It's very intimate and romantic. The food is delicious. I went there for my birthday and my friends and I were very impressed. They handle bigger groups very well. I would like to try the Chef's Table in the future. I have heard good things about it. Since it is a smaller restaurant, it is not well known so it isn't very crowded or loud. I have never had a terrible experience here, and I have been there three times at least. read more

I really used to love this restaurant. Tonight's experience was very poor. Four out of five items ordered were cold and undercooked. In fairness to Chives, we were only there one time. However, we were seated adjacent to the restrooms with the ladies door open all the time it was not in use. This was disgusting and unappetizing. Our waitress was great but the food service was very slow and only one out of our party of five enjoyed their meal. In particular, my burger was dry as if it were a soy burger. my son had the same with the same review. prices are extraordianary for the corroborating quality. Personally, we could not care less if Rogers is in the restaurant or not. We go out for a quality experience - Not going to give this place a second chance, too afriad I'll be enjoying the restroom view throughout dinner again. read more

We had eaten at Chives one afternoon and received some fresh baked bread. My daughter is vegan and they made a delicious vegetable dish for her. Nothing seemed to be a problem. They bent over backwards to accommodate her. We decided to go back yesterday and bring our vegan daughter and our vegetarian daughter. We didn't receive any bread and asked about it and were told that bread is only served in the evening, but we were there in the afternoon just like the first time. My vegetarian daughter loved her risotto but my vegan daughter had rather tasteless vegetables and a very small amount compared to the first time. The server was as helpful as he could be but I don't understand why it seemed like such a problem this time and why we were made to feel like we were crazy for asking for bread. We hoped Chives would be a place we could meet our daughter from time to time since she lives a little over an hour north and we are an hour south of there. I'm not sure if it is though since they don't have much for vegans to eat. We will try again and hope it is like our first visit. Bring back the bread for lunch too please. read more
