Walking in for the first time looking for the host stand and come to find out it's at the end of the bar was a bit awkward. There's not much room in the bar/front door area. Ambiance is warming and not pretentious. Service was good & our server was very knowledgeable on the menu. Food was fine. Ordered apps, buffalo shrimp are fried and still have the tail on them - watch out for that. Calamari was ok. All rings and no tentacles which was nice. Two different steaks at the table, both undercooked but we were too hungry to send them back & wait. Truffle Cod was good. Wine list is great but I wish at least one of the higher end wines were available by glass and not only bottle. read more

Very nice restaurant in a small, charming town. The restaurant is located in an old house probably from the 1800's. Small bar area welcomes you, with a great wine selection. The ambiance is great for date night or a special event. Fresh food, and great service. The desert menu is extra special with their specialty "Chives Ho Ho" (trust me, it's good). This is possibly the best steak I have ever had!!!!!!! Started with a cream of chicken and wild rice soup, soup was so flavorful. Then had Classic Steak Fritte - Seared Angus Beef Ribeye with a Sauce of Garlic, Herbs, & Butter with Chive Fries, & Greens Salad with French Herb Vinaigrette. The fries and salad were delicious as well. Finished with egg nog creme brulee which became for me an instant classic. Will be back to Chives again and again and again. read more

This was a nice date night. I'm not from the area so it was a good find. The ambiance was great. We had to wait for our table and grabbed a drink at the bar. The drink specials were nice. We started with the Shiitake Mushroom Bruschetta and the Chicken and Goat cheese Wontons. We had the chicken marsala and lemon chicken. Portions were generous and we both took home leftovers. The service was great - everyone was very attentive. I'd recommend this to anyone in the area. The Mushroom Bruschetta was awesome. read more

Service was great but it was not very busy in the restaurant. The food was good but not as up to par as I would expect based on the prices. The interior decor is nice, simple. The drink menu is decent but nothing super special on the menu to set it apart from other similar places. I expected more from this place and had been dying to try it for years but a little disappointed. read more

I have had better steak at Texas Roadhouse. The reason for two stars is the service. When we arrived, we were seated in the back with a screaming baby. We asked to change our table but waitress refused. Couldn't even have a conversation because of the screaming kid and the whole restaurant echo's. I ordered the Steak and Frittes. The steak was so tough that I could not cut it with a knife. Hubby got the fish and it wasn't cooked all the way. It was a pile of mushy fish. We would never eat here again. Go across the street to Rustique or the 4 Way Bar for a better meal. read more

So many great things to say about Chives... Where do I start? Their food is excellent, no matter what price range you order from. The grilled cheese is delicious and so is their steak! In my opinion, they have the best French onion soup in town. It's a must if you stop there! I have always had great service and they will take reservations for larger tables. The biggest talk of the Greater Green Bay area... Everyone and their moms and dads recommend this place so I had to try it. They are mostly always fully booked in reservations. I recommend calling a week or two ahead to make reservations, especially before the holidays/weekends. My boyfriend called the day of to make a reservation and luckily they had 2 cancelled, we were able to scoop one reservation up on a Thursday. As soon as we walked, there was a bar and hostess. We were seated right away even though we were about 10 mins early. Great! Drinks to start, I ordered a pomegranate cocktail and he ordered a scotch. No complaints, both great tasting! We put our order in right away and it took no longer than 10 minutes to get our hot fresh food. All tables were full. Nice and homey decor and friendly staff. FOOD WAS ON POINT. MELT IN YOUR MOUTH STEAK. If you're willing to pay for good steak, it's worth it. $44 plates. Hefty plates with lots of flavor. Great spot for a special dinner! I will be back. :) read more

I recently had the pleasure of revisiting this fine establishment and I am so happy to tell you it's as good as ever! Not much has changed over the years. The menu is not exactly the same, but it is very similar and many of the same items previously featured are available and just as good. I still recommend the Thomas Keller French Onion soup. It's one of the best I've ever had. I had the steak frites and the steak melted in my mouth. They still serve the fries under the steak so I recommend getting them on the side so that they are not soggy. I was able to substitute the vegetable of the day for the fries and was not charged a fee. I heard about a year ago that this establishment underwent a new change in ownership. This obviously has not affected the dining experience, so if you are afraid to go because you heard this please go. read more

This is one of the best establishments in the Green Bay area! The restaurant is a small establishment bolstering with character, a quaint atmosphere and delicious cuisine. We tried the Butternut Squash Ravioli and the Pan Roasted Grouper, both of which were superb! The wine and whiskey selection is wonderful. We had a short wait for our table so we were able to grab a drink at the bar and look over some of the menu features. This is a place that has caught my attention and I will be visiting again. One of the best meals that I've had in a long time. We had a group of five of us and four of us ate the premier steak option that was as tender as could be. The other choice was their salmon special that was also very good. Meal was served with a variety of bread's to tide us over until we had our meals. We had one round of old fashions that were very large and tasty. Our group included three Italians and one Brazilian who all had a pleasurable dining experience. The service was exceptional and the atmosphere was classy and inviting. Overall meal was very good but also very expensive and a nice treat for special occasions. read more

Delicious! Highest quality ingredients make this made from scratch food taste amazing. One of my FAVORITE places to eat in all of Green Bay, Appleton, and Oshkosh. Worth the drive because you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is romantic and intimate with always great service. I would highly recommend making reservations if you are going on a busy night. Great place for birthdays, anniversary's, or just a nice dinner out. Have never had a bad plate of food. Do not be worried about the price because it is one place where you actually get the quality of food that you pay for. I had the pesto cod with amazing red potatoes and Parma tomatoes. He cod was perfection with the pesto smothered on top! The red potatoes were crunchy outside a creamy inside. Other family members had the beef stroganoff , the plate needs to be heated before serving so the stroganoff stays warm longer, but the meat was so tender it was still great. The food here is excellent and beautifully presented. It is freshly made to order, so don't expect it to fly out of the kitchen. Their chef's table is a lot of fun. Sitting right inside the kitchen with a bird's eye view of its movements, scents, and sounds. It added a lot to the wonderful food we were served. I look forward to going back to try the regular menu. This doesn't seem like the kind of place for take out. Fantastic! Great food, great service! If you go to Green Bay, you must go to this place to eat. We love coming to this place when we lived in Green Bay and whenever we return to visit. Whether we order their french onion soup or their steak, we know we will enjoy and savor every bite. My wife is also a huge fan of their ketchup, which they make, and always orders another container on the side just in case she runs out. But be warned, you really should make reservations prior to or else you will suffer a long wait, especially on the weekend night. read more

My wife and I dined here recently and really enjoyed ourselves. It was upscale, without feeling that way if that makes any sense. It was very cozy inside and very welcoming. We thought the atmosphere was very relaxing and quaint. The server was very friendly and attentive and gave us great recommendations. We tried various mixed drinks and they were all good. I had a whiskey sour and it was one of the best I've ever had (hard to mess up but you would be surprised!). We watched the bar tender fixing whiskey old fashioneds and they looked very good! Just what you would expect in Wisconsin. I ordered a starter of East Coast Oysters and was pleasantly surprised. They came with 3 different sauces that were all very tasty! My wife ordered the vegetable ravioli, and I ordered the filet mignon and we were very impressed. Everything was so delicious. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection and so tender and juicy. Even the vegetables had so much flavor. I'm not even a huge fan of cauliflower, but it had so much flavor! The mashed potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. We will definitely be coming back here soon. I felt that the price of the food and drinks was great for the quality of everything. Such a nice experience. read more

I've been to Chives twice -- both times I've eaten at the chef's table. Both times I've thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Chives is about the best you will find in the greater Green Bay metro area (although since I was last there I understand the owner has opened another venue which I would expect should be just as good). I respect any establishment that opens it's kitchen to customers -- whether with a chef's table or an open design -- when you can see the organization, the cleanliness, and the overall managment of the preparation of your food, in my opinion it enhances the quality of the meal. Each time I was there we were served about seven courses starting with small, light dishes such as oysters with mignonette sauce and progressing toward heavier plates such as broiled strip steak with seasonal veggies. Each time our meal concluded with a tasty dessert including seasonal fruit and home made ice cream. The size of each serving was small but ample for a seven course meal. The wine selections were average but decent and I enjoyed what we chose to accompany our meals . In Green Bay an establishment like Chives is five star -- on the world wide stage it is pretty run of the mill -- but if you are looking for a fine place to dine in Northeast Wisconsin I am sure you will be more than pleased with your meal at Chives. read more

I would give this restaurant a 5 star but 2 things kept me from doing that. First they had a special still had it up above the bar but when we were seated they said they were out the day before, take it down if you don't have it anymore. Secondly I like a little more intimate seating, pay that much money you should have more privacy. Chives reminds me what we're missing by living in the middle of nowhere. Excellent service, excellent food. Take note of this, yokels in Central Wisconsin. It's tastefully decorated, it didn't cost a ton to decorate yet it is beautiful. The restrooms are like those in someone's very nice home, not like a bowling alley in skid row. I had the grilled ribeye, my wife had duck, both were expertly and timely prepared, presented and served. The appetizers were out of this world, the bread amazing, the wine that my wife had was very good. Our waitress fit what I like to call "Invisible service", where they're right there when you need them but otherwise leave you alone. It was a perfect choice for our 5th anniversary dinner. We were in town for the weekend and decided to try out Chives on a friends recommendation. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was cozy, quaint and rustic but elegant. The food was good and the brandy old fashions were the best I've had. Overall, we thought the experience was positive and we would return but we were not compelled to give our experience a five star rating. We stopped again as we passed through on another trip and once again enjoyed our experience. I had the mushroom risotto and it was seriously the best I've ever had. I had called in advance for reservations for my husband's birthday dinner. I asked for a great table. We were seated at a table next to the window which was great. We ordered appetizers and French onion soup and entrees for my husband. They never brought my husband's soup. At the end of the meal despite me letting them know in advance about his birthday they never offered or brought him a complimentary dessert despite missing his soup. He was upset so we left without any dessert. The waiter said at the end he did take the soup off our bill. At this point we should have been offered something to makeup for the error such as a free birthday dessert. Very disappointed! The appetizer and entrees were both good just upset about how the incorrect order and birthday was handled. read more

Lunch today was very disappointing. Was very surprised that the quality of the food and service Has deteriorated. Had the Bistro, a grilled cheese Sandwich with salad and soup. The soup was leek and potato it was greasy tasting with no flavor at all. The salad had some wilted lettuce and the grilled cheese was a little luke warm.
