We have been in a few times during the past year for dinner and lunch. I am more of a fan of coming here for lunch however. The small and medium plates, with some very good soup, salad and sandwich offerings make for a very good lunch. I still find myself unsure on their large plates though as I don't think they provide as good of a value for what you are being served. One perennial favorite of ours is the French onion soup - it's excellent and worth getting every time you go in. One of our favorite lunches is to split their wonderful BLT and a chop salad. The bread they use is some of the best you can get in Green Bay and is spectacular. Overall, we like Chives as they do provide a good quality experience with some wonderful food. read more

This was my first time going here and it was perfect timing as it was the first day of Green Bay's Restaurant Week. They had a $30 menu where you got a few choices for an appetizer, entree, and desert. I had the Vichyssoise for my app, Sofrito Shrimp for my entree, and an ice cream sampler for dessert. The Vichyssoise was a cold potato leek soup with crab. I love crab, and it was creamy and tasty. I usually like my soup warm, so I was curious how different it would be if it was warm. The shrimp was spot on. I don't really know what was all in it, but that's okay it tasted great and I ate all of it. Good thing I have a desert stomach because my regular stomach was full by the time I got my dessert. The ice cream came in this cute little cup with fresh berries and biscotti. Our server was great, he was friendly and was there when we needed him. Only thing was he was a little confused when we asked about their beer selection, but it was okay because we still got what we want. To me this is a fancy restaurant, but it felt casual as the wait staff were all in t-shirts and shorts and the ambiance was calm. I would like to go here again....so who's taking me? read more

As the world's youngest Bob Newhart fan, I came to Chives to attain sustenance before Bob's show at UWGB. I have been to Green Bay one other time in my life, so I had no clue where to eat. How did I find this fine establishment? Well, I googled "Aaron Rodgers' favorite restaurant", of course! I trust 12 in all facets of life. It was very cold on this dining day, and walking into Chives was a very welcoming and warm experience. Their staff is very friendly and took us right to our table. We started off with the chicken and goat cheese wontons - which were some of the greatest things I've ever eaten. GET THESE. They are accompanied by a spicy apricot sauce as well as a delicious vegetable slaw garnish. These were full of goat cheese and just perfect with the sweet/spicy sauce that was drizzled under it. The crab cakes weren't as good, unfortunately. While they certainly weren't bad, they just didn't taste much like crab and were bland in flavor. The crab cakes were a 5/10 while the wontons were an 11. SOUP TIME! The crab manhatten soup had the same faults of the crab cakes - just not much crab taste. The french onion soup, on the other hand... oh yeah. That's the stuff right there. Best I've ever had. Plenty of onion, crouton, gruyere... this soup completes me. My wife and I shared everything at this meal, and our entree of choice was the fish fry or fish'n'chips - which is served daily. When we were brought our two plates, we were worried the waiter had made a mistake. We decided we were just going to wait and see what happened when the bill came... but we couldn't believe that what we each received was a split (or half) portion. Well, IT WAS. It was extremely kind of the waiter to split this dish for us and give us each ample ketchup, tarter sauce, chives fries, and veggie slaw along with two pieces of cod EACH. The entree was great - by the way. The breading of the cod achieved a lightness that is sometimes hard to pull of. The tarter sauce and ketchup both seemed to be homemade. While I didn't love the fries (they were of the "matchstick" variety), I kept eating them because I thought this was the best ketchup I had ever tasted. If the ketchup turns out to be Heinz I am going to lose any and all credibility I once had... but I will stand by this statement for now. Yes, I want dessert - I drove quite a ways to eat here. The ho ho cake was good, but the Belgian Chocolate Chip Cookies were even better. They tasted like they just came out of the oven... and they came with ice cream and a caramel/fudge dipping sauce. You heard me - warm, soft, delicious cookies with ice cream and a caramel/fudge dipping sauce. One of the best desserts I've ever been served at a restaurant. Was lucky enough to get a reservation for the chef's table one day ahead. Bring an extra stomach! You do not want to leave a bite behind! Every dish was great and the progression was well thought out. It's hard to assign favorites but the burrata blood Orange fennel salad, risotto, monk fish and Boston cream pie inspired dessert made the top of my list tonight although all the dishes were truly superb. I also loved that the chef's tables were in the kitchen right in the middle of all the action. Excellent restaurant, but they were out of several items by the time we were seated. I had the Bleu cheese tenderloin which was delicious. Cooked perfectly. The soup was very good but not very hot. The restaurant itself is very quaint. I loved the decor. The bar is very small. Almost too small. Plus when someone opened the front door it was very cold when sitting at the bar. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I am looking forward to going back, but at an early reservation time so I have more of a variety of food selections. read more

Exceptional food in a cozy atmosphere with great service. I had the filet, beautifully done, tender as butter and wonderfully presented. My partner raved over the duck and the baked goods. Desert was from their own bakery and just as out of this world as the entrées. If you like baked French onion soup be sure to order theirs, you'll be in heaven. Dinner, desert and a few drinks for two came to $120.00 before the tip. Worth every penny but probably higher then the average tab as we added cocktails, desserts and soup. Enjoy! read more

This place seemed a little stuffy at first glance but don't be afraid to come have a great meal. We are in town for a game (of course) and my vegetarian gf said she could eat here. There are a few selections for her and as an appetizer she luckily still eats cheese because the roasted Brie was amazing! They have a small beer list and a massive wine selection and a walk in cellar in the middle of the place. Now, it's getting four stars because after an hour of waiting on food in a more and more empty place, I flagged somebody down who told me their whole system went down. He re-took our order and then we had our food in a flash. I had the steak fritte which was HUGE and tasty. The gf had the butternut squash ravioli and said there was some sort of added veggi that didn't belong so she was happy but not 100% Now, since we had to wait about 80minutes for our food, they were nice enough to not only get us dessert, but comp the meal. For dessert we had the apricot crisp which was awesome and I also had a nice tawny port to finish off. All in all it was a great meal in a great atmosphere and I would come back for sure. This place had the best food we have ever eaten. Anywhere. We are from out of town and decided to trust reviews and try it and we are glad we did. We started with the French onion soup and it was incredible. I had the Filet and it was a huge portion. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Honestly it was the best steak i have ever had anywhere. My husband had the steak fritte and his was also perfect. He also said it was the best steak he has ever had anywhere. It's on the expensive side for Green Bay, but you are absolutely getting what you pay for! I ate the 3 times. First time I ate fish tacos. I thought it was good. I bragged on the place and took my friend to lunch. Who is literally the lunch Queen and knows good food. She did not enjoy her lunch. 3rd time I thought oh, let me have a nice salad ands top or with cocoanut scallops. It cost 16.99. The small scallops were over cooked, dry and very brown. I thought best to inform the mgr and provide constructive feedback. He was totally uninterested. The place is incredibly overpriced. A simple bottled drink is close to 5.00. What!!!! It may be a cool concept the first time around. I could have had a fine dining experience for 16.99 at Bonefish. Really and this was a salad for lunch. Not my cup of tea. read more

I don't know which awesome part to rave about first. The interior is just beautiful; great decorations and colors and the space is well-utilized. I didn't get the pleasure but chances are high you'll spot Aaron Rogers -- or so I've heard. The menu is even more beautiful! I had the chicken goat cheese wontons with a spicy sauce. The sauce really made the appetizer. I was disappointed with the butternut squash ravioli because it had a super creamy runny sauce and no where in the item description on the menu said creamy sauce. I wouldn't have ordered it then. Too watery but the ravioli itself was delicious. The service here was really good and I liked their drinks a lot. Great beer selection. read more

Food is superb! I had the filet which was like butter and fork tender. One of my friends had blackened wahoo which was probably the best. Two others I was dining with had pasta with braised lamb, very good. Downside, dessert, which was the adult ho ho, it didn't taste like it was made on premises, but it was still good. Chives is small and very crowded. If you dont have reservation be prepared to wait. It is one of the best restaurants in Green Bay hands down. read more

What a great little place! The atmosphere is wonderful, and there is no doubt you're in a small Green Bay outskirt town. The lunch options were great - I loved my soup, salad and grilled cheese sandwich. Watch out for those bay leaves though, they serve the soup littered with them! I would really like to go back for dinner. Seems like the perfect spot for a date night out. Another thing to note: they serve burgers rare. If you'd like what I think is medium-well, ask for what they call "medium-well-plus." Otherwise medium-well is no char/grill marks on the outside, and pink on the inside. read more

From a chef that cranks out high end cuisine at affordable prices (not to mention oversees a goodwill bread baking mission in Africa) to super friendly waitstaff, and the occasional weekend cooking class, all in Suamico, WI? This is a personal preference review. Chives is not a low quality restaurant, but we aren't in any rush to go back for the food. The atmosphere was inviting, and even though it has a small dining area it never seemed to get very loud, feel crowded or have any echos. We were impressed by that. Friendly staff also. The food just didn't impress us. We order several small plates (oysters, crab legs, and the Trio) 1 large plate (ribeye with chive fries)along with the tomato bisque and lobster bisque soup. The food was over seasoned leaving little taste of the main foods, making it very rich. We likened it to our experience eating at Bobby Flays restaurant. The food was lost because of all the salt. Salt isn't the problem here, but the same result. The crab legs tasted more like pine nuts than crab, the ribeye was full on garlic. We like garlic, and it was more than what was needed. It was plated on top of the chive fries which didn't work once the fries soaked up the garlic and juices from the steak. We did like the Goat Cheese Wontons and would stop for a drink and have those again. We've always heard good things about Chive and think it would be worth a try for others, just not for us. read more

I love this place. We eat here about once a month. The steak Frita is awesome and my wife loves the Filet.

I've had good food and let-down meals here, and have yet to be blown away. The salads are excellent and large, The pork is very bland and does not "melt in your mouth" as the waiter said... The lemon chicken is very juicy and tasty. The ice cream is yummy. The Chicken Marsala was so-so. The steak I was told was good, but I don't eat that. I was told by so many people how excellent this place was and hoped it would be. I still have a few things to try here, but without high expectations, maybe it will get better. From Florida, knowing nothing about the Green Bay area, and chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. From the French Onion Soup to the Rhubarb Almond Cake with Strawberry Whipped Cream the food was everything i had hoped for. I had read that the French Onion Soup was amazing and it really lived up to that review...deep, rich flavor, loaded with bread and cheese. i had the butternut squash ravioli with cooked-just-right vegetables, like asparagus and cherry tomatoes with a lemon butter sauce...delicious. my husband had the fish and chips, where the cod pieces were perfectly fried, the shoestring potatoes were seasoned with garlic and chives, and the carrot slaw, and tartar sauce were a hit with him. he had the chive ho ho chocolate cake roll, filled with whipped cream and topped with a chocolate ganache (sp?). Very disappointing meal. The steak fritte and the fries that came with it were poisoned with salt and garlic powder. The salad was drenched in dressing. Took the steak home, cleaned it up, and the next day it was still just so-so. We used to think of Chives as a restaurant that serves a consistently good meal. Not anymore. Our meals were ordinary at best, and not as good as we could have found, for half the price, at a steakhouse chain. We're saddened to discover that we can't rely on Chives as we used to. One of my favorite restaurants, my daughter's, too. If I go there without her (most of my friends are fans as well), I have to bring her something home. We devour a plate of Fried Calamari every time we're there, and the Chicken & Goat Cheese Wontons are also amazing. The Lemon Chicken is wonderful, my absolute favorite. I've had the Chorizo Shrimp w/grits, also delicious, and most recently, the Maple Leaf duck breast, which was good, but the smallest duck breast I've seen. I may have gotten the last one...LOL The Chives fries are SO good, but if you don't care for lots of fresh garlic, you should probably skip them. Our server did a great job acting like she was paying attention when we said "this round is on me" or "put the apps on mine". Stopped here on our visit to Door County and wanted to dine here because I had read about it online . Food was pretty good but the service was awful. After taking our drink order, the waitress disappeared for 15-20 minutes which we then came to find out would be consistent throughout the night. My daughter flew in from NYC to join the family vacation and it was her birthday so after reading reviews i thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate. Unfortunately that was not the case. The waitress asked what we wanted for dessert instead of bringing a birthday treat so we ordered creme brûlée. She took our order then came back and said they were out of creme brûlée, gave us our check, and delivered a snarky happy birthday needless to say my daughter was devastated and we will not back. read more

We were excited to have New Year's Eve (early) reservations at Chives as we had been wanting to go for some time. Unfortunately it was an all around negative experience. It was a cold evening and we were seated at the small table close to the back porch/door so every time the door opened there was a blast of cold air. I spent the entire meal wearing my coat. We ordered and I know all you foodies out there will be aghast but I ordered my steak well done - I mean I am paying for it, I should be able to have it prepared the way I want. Anyway of course it came out undercooked, and I mean very under cooked. They took it back and while I sat and watched my husband eat his meal I waited....and waited...and waited some more. Finally they bring back my meal and while the steak was done perfectly, it and everything else on the plate was cold. In addition we ordered soup, apps, drinks, the whole thing and apps that were supposed to be hot were not, we had to wait and wait for service for rounds of drinks.....I know they were busy, but they were not yet packed and the place is small, it is not like our waiter could not see us sitting there right? We were just so disappointed because the food we did eat was SO good! If there had been just a little more attention to timing and detail the whole thing would have been perfect - except of course the freezing cold seat we had.....which would have been happily overlooked. Anyway, they never offered to comp a drink or dessert for the problem of the steak and me sitting there eating alone because my husband was done with his meal, and while our waiter was very nice it just really seemed that no one cared at all. We thought this was going to be a great experience we had saved for, and a special occasion for us, but instead we felt slighted and a little ripped off. :( We actually completed the comment card - which we never do - and never even got an email or call about it or anything....I thought this was a professional establishment that would care someone came and had a bad experience, especially for the price you pay, but the non follow up sort of proved to us that really no one did care. Obviously we will not be going back and I have taken the time even a month later to complete this review because the whole experience was a terrible beginning to our 2016 and still bothers us. read more
