All Koreans check a Korean restaurant by their kimchi. Kimchi passes flying colors. Service was great and I love being served by older Korean ladies. Just makes it feel home-y. You know? Food was good. Tofu soup was hot and satisfying. But the seafood pancake was the big winner. Would come back literally just for the seafood pancake. A-fricken-one.

Might be one of the best in Katy-- the soondoobu was great and the fish was tender! The side dishes paired wonderfully and we recognized some of the staff here from our prior favorite Korean restaurant in Houston! Cheers!

A very family friendly Korean food eatery the service is top notch and the food was just OK. If your other choice of restaurant have a long wait time and you are hungry, come here for your second choice. This is how I end up eat here for dinner with my family because our first choice had a long wait list. If you are sitting at the big table the call for service button is on the side and your utensil are in a drawer on the side too.

I've been to Cho Dang Gol a handful of times now and have seen noticeable improvements in food quality and service. It has since become one of my go-to Korean restaurants in Katy Asia Town. The restaurant is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The interior is spacious and clean. Chopsticks, utensils, and napkins can be found in the drawer built into the table. There's also a service bell you can ring to get your server's attention. For soondubu, I usually order the dumpling soondubu with mild spice. It's not too salty and has just a slight kick. The soondubu comes with white rice and an egg. The tofu is soft, and the plump, bite-sized dumplings soak up the flavorful broth wonderfully. Lately, I've been ordering the bibim naengmyeon. The noodles are very chewy. The gochujang sauce is savory and not too spicy. I really like the thinly sliced apples and cucumbers on top. You can adjust the taste to your liking with vinegar and mustard. The side dishes are okay, though I find them to be a little too salty for my taste. If you're in the area and craving Korean food, I'd say Cho Dang Gol is worth a visit!

Solid traditional Korean meal. Everything was delicious and none of the dishes missed. I wouldn't go out of my way to get anything specific here but you can bet on having a good meal if you do decide to dine here. My favorite was the LA Galbi - the perfect balance of sweet and savory without being dry or too fatty. The raw marinated crab had good seasoning but the crab was small and cut into a lot of tiny pieces. It satisfied the craving but maybe I'd rather get another order of Galbi instead. I would pass on the fried dumpling appetizer, just like freezer dumplings put in the deep fryer

There's free boricha (barley tea, hot or iced) in aluminum cups with silicone sleeves. The meal ends with a semi-frozen yogurt drink. The utensils (takeaway chopsticks, metal spoons, napkins) are in the drawer on the side of the table. There's a button to push for assistance, but the workers only attended to it a few times. The banchan had a variety of flavors. There was typical Korean side salad, fishcakes, and soy sauce-pickled jalapeño-cucumber-daikon. The broccoli salad was soft and seemed to have tofu mixed in. There was blanched green cabbage with a spicy side dip. The kimchi was crunchy. I got the combo tofu soup and grilled mackerel. The seafood (medium-sized clam, shrimp, mussels) tofu soup (hot) was flavorful and came with a raw egg to crack. It had chopped onion and zucchini. The seafood pieces were a good sizeand tender. The mackerel half was huge, thick, moist, and crispy. The flavor was really good after a few days too. It was accompanied by sliced white onion and a lemon wedge. A wooden lid covered the rice, which was in a metal bowl in a wooden stand. I was surprised it retained its heat really well. There were tables and wooden seat booths with towel-like seats. They have deli containers for soup leftovers and foam boxes for other food.

Came in at 9:30p and restaurant closes at 10pm. They actually already shut down the kitchen. Since we were super hungry and only wanted tofu soup (which is incidentally the only thing they will serve), we asked the waitress to let us come in. Luckily, we were seated but we got the feeling that they felt they were doing us a favor. The dining tables have drawers that contain utensils and napkins. There is also a button that is used to call waitstaff. Tofu soup came piping hot..accompanied with steaming rice in the hot pot. Be careful not to burn yourself. Soup had loads of tofu and enough meat. There is also a small but good selection of banchan and the fried fish was meaty. We've had better tofu soup elsewhere so we will probably not come back for soup here. If you do dine here, just make sure you come way before closing time.

We came right as they opened and they were still setting up for the day. They brought us cups of water and then a cup of ice later to put into the water (was already cold but not ice cold I guess?). Utensils and things we might need were in a side drawer under the table. She brought out things we needed but we were able to grab additional napkins and chopsticks as we needed. There was a bell that you could push to ask for her server. It basically chimed over the speakers and then read your table number so the whole restaurant knew you needed help. Lol. We did not use it after figuring that out after the first time. We ordered the combo dumpling tofu soup and the fried dumplings and then another bowl of the regular (beef and pork) tofu soup. The combo came with five side dishes that were okay. We did not eat that much of it. Our soups came with the crispy Korean rice, a raw egg that we cracked into the bowl, and a small salted fried fish. The soups were really good and went well with the rice and fish. There wasn't that much meat in the soups and about four dumplings in the soup, but a ton of tofu. It was a really filling meal. I would come here again to try more dishes! My husband ordered regular spice and I did the second level up. It was the perfect amount of spicy for us. Some bites were Spicer than others. If you can't take spice, order without any.

I came here again today and while the dumpling soup and the vegetarian soup was good, I was in a shock of finding a live small cockroach scurrying across the ladle of the tteokbokki and onto our table. The servers were nice/ caring and were able to give us a discount on our meal, which I am Grateful for. Aside from that, the banchan was great and I do like how they serve the rice in a wooden pot. They are also able to take out certain ingredients if you are allergic or have dietary restrictions.

Food here is alright but service is quick and the ahjummas are nice. We ordered the mandu, tonkatsu, rose tteokbokki, and naengmyeon. The tonkatsu was crispy and came out hot, but there was nothing special about it. The rose tteokbokki was a lot creamier than I thought it would be, I do prefer a little more spice to it, but it was perfect for my friend. The mandu was standard and tasted best when dipped in the rose sauce. The naengmyeon was pretty bland in my opinion and I had to add quite a bit of vinegar to it.

I went with some friends for a weekend lunch. We got the goochang soon tofu and the donkatsu. Overall, the interior was very clean and neat. It reminded me of restaurants in Korea. I loved how they had a bell on the side of the table to order. The silverware and napkins were all on the side of the table as well. I enjoyed having the complementary barley tea for waters. They give you the option of hot or cold. The side dishes were all super delicious and I loved how they gave such a variety. Especially liked the fried fish and the potato salad. My tofu soup was a little burnt at the bottom, which was a little disappointing. I got the spicy and my friend got the regular spice and they were all a good level of spice. You have to scoop out the rice and put some hot water in the stone bowl which was a great addition to finish off the meal. The food was a little more on the pricier side but would recommend to visit for a good korean restaurant.

Solid Korean tofu soup restaurant, but unfortunately not the same Cho Dang Gol as the popular New York location. Nor is it to be confused with Cho Dang Village in Dallas. While they serve a larger variety of dishes than our existing Korean soondubu restaurants in Houston, such as grilled pork ribs, pork cheese katsu, and raw marinated crab to name a few, it still feels like they fell short in a couple areas. The LA Galbi, the standard go to dish for any restaurant with kbbq on the menu, was perfectly flavored and juicy. BUT when you order it with the combo, it only comes with FIVE pieces... for $30!! Yes you get a couple side dishes and a huge bowl of rice. But $30 for 5 pieces of meat and a soup with cheap frozen veggies/seafood is not a fair deal in my books. BCD in Dallas give you 6 pieces in their combo for $25 lunch price. SGD in Houston gives you 6 pieces for $28 dinner price. Both from my personal experience, and both serve you just as many side dishes and rice. The Spicy Pork Ribs was tender, but not quite what I expected. Part of it was due to my personal taste of not being able to eat spicy, but I was also expecting the meat to be a bit more juicy chewy rather than falling apart like pulled pork. Like the grilled pork ribs I had at Cho Dang Village. No one in our large group of 8 expressed any ecstatic feelings towards the meal, but didn't complain about the food either. #333

We both got the soup & LA galbi combo. The kimchi soup I had & my boyfriend's tofu soup were both bland - we would give those a 4/10. The LA galbi we had was a 8/10 - flavor was AMAZING but I can't justify giving it any higher because we didn't get much meat on it. It seems like scraps to us. I liked the rose tteokbokki but my boyfriend said it was bland as well. I would give it a 6.5/10. Service was good and the inside was really clean and spacious.

Amazing service and the food was the best korean food I've ever had. I would recommend the galbi and the tofu food soup.

From the moment…read moreyou step into the clean, large restaurant, you get greeted by the loveliest Korean ahjummas and are seated at a table next to a TV playing some K-Drama. The menu is big, but every item on it is executed so well. The flavors are comparable to that you'll get in Korea, with the side dishes few but perfect (the kimchi, jjangachi, and radish kimchi). My favorite is the gamjatang---there is so much meat, the potatoes are piping hot, and the soup is perfectly seasoned and rich. The pancakes and blood sausages are also delicious. I love coming here whenever I crave authentic Korean food: everything from the service to the meal itself is top-tier. The prices are also very very reasonable, especially lunch prices! Parking is plentiful and it's right off the freeway. You have to come here for the best Korean food in the area---I drive all the way from the Medical Center to come here, and it never disappoints!

I've finally made it to the original spot for the legendary soup dumplings. "Better than din Tai fung", so I've heard. I can finally confirm: these are probably the best soup dumplings in Houston. We arrived around 6:15PM on a Monday after leaving Spa World (yeah, I was off for the day after an exam). No wait, though I've heard it gets quite busy and it was still decent busy while we were there. Service was very prompt and didn't keep us waiting to put an order in, and dumplings came out hot! We got: #85 Tomatoes and Pork Soup Dumplings (5/5): Whatever they put in this broth, it's like liquid crack. MSG? Who knows. The dumplings come with the perfect texture and you can literally lift them up and see the filled soup inside. Not a single one was broken. The soup was fantastic and the dumpling was excellent. It's seriously the best I've had in Houston and maybe in the U.S. #24 Pork & Scallion Thumb Bun (4.5/5): It was a tad salty, but the scallion offset the pork really well and they were perfect small bites. #27 Spicy Pork & Shrimp Wontons (4.5/5): Loved the red sauce, great wonton texture overall. No extra dips needed. I'm definitely going to try their other location and it's totally worth the trek to this one. Awesome job to the team here!

Turns out, we were forced to acknowledge how good it was whether we wanted to or not... because yes, it really was that good. Tomatoes & Pork Soup Dumplings - I was exceptionally curious about incorporating tomatoes into soup dumplings, so I had to order these to satisfy my curiosity. Grateful to see they also had a thumbs-up on the menu to reinforce my decision. The dumplings were beautifully folded and didn't tear when picked up. You could actually see how much soup was packed inside--they looked like little jiggly water balloons. The broth was unexpectedly sweet while still being savory, with a very clean flavor. My BF said they were probably some of the best soup dumplings he's ever had, and I'd have to agree--they were pretty top-tier. These came out hot-hot. The wrapper felt a bit drier than other soup dumplings I've had, giving it a mildly chewy aftertaste that I wasn't fond of (I'm very aware of textures), but in terms of flavor, absolutely no complaints. It's important to note that I've never been as big a fan of soup dumplings as my BF is, but I admit this place converted me. Time to see how well it compares to Din Tai Fung. Spicy Pork & Shrimp Wonton in Red Oil: - Wonton - Very juicy with well-rendered pork fat. My favorite part was how delicate the wrapper was. After watching the dumpling episode of Chuuka Ichiban (Cooking Master Boy), I became overly aware of the thickness of dumpling wrappers. I have to admit this place absolutely nailed it--the wrapper was just thick enough to hold the filling, yet delicate enough that it almost melted away as you chewed. - Red Oil - Tangy and aromatic. Despite being an oil-based sauce, it didn't taste overly greasy. The seasoning and herbs gave it a signature spice that felt layered rather than simply spicy for the sake of being spicy. It actually grew on me the more I went back to it between the other dumplings, working as a great palate cleanser and taste bud reset. Pork & Scallion Thumb Bun - I'd never had a thumb bun before, but it's quite dainty, just as the name suggests. The texture was a bit firmer than I would have liked--almost like a stiff potsticker. All of these dumplings had a very pronounced pork flavor. I found this one a bit too salty compared to the others, perhaps because the soup dumplings and wontons were balanced by their broth and red oil. Maybe I just needed to dip it in vinegar (someone educate me). I tried it three ways: plain, accidentally in soy sauce, and finally in vinegar. The vinegar definitely mellowed out the saltiness, but this still wasn't my favorite dish. Service was fast and considerate throughout our meal. They refilled our water attentively and checked on us at a meaningful pace without feeling intrusive. I also noticed they didn't play any music here, but somehow the constant buzz of the staff moving around was comforting. The atmosphere felt peaceful and gave off very authentic Chinese vibes. Overall, we'll be visiting them again soon at their new location closer to us. #worth

For entrees, we split the orange chicken and the Spicy/Numbing Pot. The orange chicken was spot on. The sauce was sweet but not painfully sweet or thick/clumpy. Really nice orange flavor and tender chicken. So much fun eating it since it is gluten free! Our kiddo also devoured this dish! Mild - not spicy at all! The Spicy Numbing Pot, while a little oily/greasy on the bottom, was still delicious! I appreciated that it wasn't knock your socks off spicy - it had a solid kick, and so flavorful. I love eating dishes with Sichuan Pepper; it has a lot of flavor, and the tingling is so much fun. This dish was perfect with some rice, and it wasn't too heavy for the middle of the day.
