There's a lack of affordable Korean spots in Katy ever since Korea Garden near 99 Ranch moved locations to the Longpoint area. Tasty Ko is located further South of I-10 in an assuming plaza. As soon I stepped into the restaurant, I was hit with delicious aromas of KBBQ and seafood sizzling at the tables. I was in the mood for noodles and so was my friend - we ordered the jjamppong and the jiajiangmein. The broth for the jjamppong was super flavorful and deep with seafood notes. There were plenty of veggies (cabbage) and squid. The shrimp were small and kind of mushy - probably from a frozen bag or just not fresh. I didn't mind though. The serving size of noodles were perfect, and maybe a little bit more than I wanted since I couldn't finish the whole bowl. The jiajiangmein looked equally as delicious - my friend said there was a lot of onion in the sauce. The array of banchan consisted of kimchi, marinated bean sprouts, cold kimchi pancake, and marinated spicy cucumber. Yummy banchan as well. Tasty Ko is a great spot if you're not wanting to drive all the way to the Spring Branch area for Korean food, and not wanting to spend an arm and a leg at Katy Asian Town. Stopped in again. It's been a couple years. Got the Galbi and the beef bulgogi! I don't like most of the Korean sides but the bean sprouts and the salad are ok. Flavor was very good for both meats. The staff are all friendly and the place is clean and simple. This occasion, we shared the spicy chicken dish and bulgogi bibimbap. The chicken was quite spicy and I enjoyed the addition of cabbage and rice cakes in the mix. The banchan or side dishes are all very flavorful and accompany the meal well. My wife and I love visiting this neighborhood joint whenever we want Korean food and don't want to drive far. The owner and workers are very nice and attentive. The food is great and fairly priced. We usually get the seafood pancake (extra crispy), japchae, and the donkatsu. We usually view the japchae as a side, but here it's delicious enough to be main entree. The donkatsu is one of our favorites in town. It's a huge portion that's flattened very thin and fried to extra crispy perfection. My wife always has leftovers for another meal since it's a big portion. Their katsu sauce is the best. I want to assume it's made in house because it tastes different from what you usually get. Not sure what happened to this restaurant but used to be good. Servers are still friendly like usual and greet you as soon as you walk in the door. Ambiance is still clean and adequate space while having that Korean restaurant vibe to it. Food are very oily and salty. Seafood pancake ($14) used to be so crispy yet soft. It was oily and soggy last night. Also, they no longer serve it on a hot clay plate. Galbitang ($23) wasn't bad but saltier than I have anticipated. Bulgogi bibimbap ($16) was oily, even oilier the day after. I mixed in white rice at home to try to tame the oiliness. Side dishes was just meh, more in the vinegar side. Food was so good and authentic! The pork belly was very tasty and came with jalapeños, onion, and garlic. The kimchi jigae with beef was also very good, and had a decent amount of tofu and beef in it though I wish they gave us an egg to add in. Tteokbokki was nice, soft, and chewy, but not very saucy (which wasn't a bad thing but depends on what you like). I also got the sweet rice punch and I love it. It's icy, refreshing, and good to cool you down if the food is too spicy. The service was also very good! The worker there was nice and I really liked how the store was laid out. We had a table with screens covering the sides so it felt like we had a bit of privacy. My family has been here twice and we have enjoyed our food. We have tried dolsot bulgogi bibimbap, budae jigae, two types of udon, and the fried chicken. Everything was good and the service is nice too. I feel like I'm eating at a small family run business. It's rarely busy when we go, but we have gone at off times. Once for an early dinner and once around 2pm. The only weird thing is the banchan is provided on a paper plate. Not sure why, but they have done it twice. If you get the fried chicken, ask for the spicy red sauce. It's an extra $3 but it is really good. They won't mix it for you, but you can dip your fried chicken in it. So good. read more

This is my favorite Korean BBQ place in the Katy area. First, the restaurant is charming and perfect for conversations over dinner -- UNLIKE some Korean BBQ restaurants that blare and flash annoying music videos at you. Second, I love the fact that this wonderful family will actually cook the BBQ meat in the kitchen for you if you prefer, which I do. I am a good cook, but when I go out to eat, I prefer good quality food that I don't have to cook for myself (although cooking at the table is sometimes fun). Third, everything we've tried on the menu is fresh and delicious. We love the Pork Fried Dumplings and the Korean fried chicken from the appetizer menu. The Special Combo is a great way to try an assortment of marinated Korean BBQ meats: pork bulgogi, spicy chicken bulgogi, pork belly, and our family favorite -- the boneless beef galbi. The Korean BBQ dishes come with rice and fresh little side dishes that are so tasty, like spicy tofu, green bean sprouts with sesame oil, kimchi, green leaf lettuce as well as salad vinaigrette and pieces of vegetable pancake. The friendly staff frequently came by to bring more of our favorite side dishes to the table.
