I hadn't been inside in a long time because I'm not a fan of the coffee so I don't have any reason to go. Today, however, I wanted a bagel and didn't want to drive all the way to the usual bagel place so I decided to come in and check it out. First off, it's like a sauna inside it was so hot and sticky. Very gross The counter is weird...they have added wood barriers to the top of all the counters so that you can't see what's happening in the prep area. It's not very welcoming nor reassuring. The place has an old coffee roaster inside and its all blocked off...which leaves very little space for patrons to wait for their order. It's very cramped. I think at one point, I am sure it was configured better but now it's just a cramped, dingy shop that feels like an old donut shop. The pastries are all individually wrapped so I think they get them from somewhere else. The bagels are not displayed well...just dumped into trays. Not very appealing. I came here few times over the years and I definitely need to be back more often. I really like their sandwiches. The minute you bite into one of their sandwiches it tastes like something you make at home but big. I like that they put a lot of veggies but I do think they need to cut cucumbers and avocados more thinly since it was very difficult for me to eat with hands. Toasted bread and their special jalapeño spread were very good (just like how I remembered from last time) . Everything tasted fresh! Their tomato bisque was homemade and very yummy. I did try their coffee before and they were not bad. I haven't tried enough of their coffee to be critical of the quality. We moved nearby in April and immediately wanted to find our new "spot". We've tried a few coffee shops nearby and NOTHING COMPARES to Chocobean. The coffee is some of the best I've ever had and I've worked in the coffee industry for 10 years. The food is fantastic and fresh. Service is undoubtedly too notch, the owners and the staff are all so friendly and always have big smiles on their faces. Plus we love that they have a little outdoor seating area so we can snag the high chairs and have our two kids sit outside with us. All in all, 100% recommend this business to anyone who hasn't tried it before. read more

My go-to coffee place on workdays! I get the iced lavender latte with oat milk and light ice. It is delicious and refreshing! The shop is easy to find, open spaced, clean, bright, classy, well-organized and cozy. Condiments are easy to access and it's easy to order. The coffee is delicious with lots of variety. Cute little coffee shop and I happen to be on the area. I decided to give them a try. I got a pumpkin scone that they get from a bakery and I thought it was really good for $3.95, a deal! As far as I'm concerned they are the best coffee shop in Mission Viejo. The management and staff take pride in the work they do, the have an extensive food menu (i recommend the scramblers) and they make quality frozen drinks and have creative house blends like their Hawaiian Coffee. Their desserts are also fantastic including the Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake which they heat up for you upon request. When it comes to customers they dont do anything to try to rush customers who are enjoying their time on the patio and I can appreciate that having worked in the service industry. Their focus is on quality experience and not trying to rotate as many customers in and out as quickly as possible. The have a customer for life. read more

The drink was perfect, i've had lots of bad experiences with chai having too much milk but that was not the case. The spread gave the sandwich a nice little kick. Eh, overall not worth the trip. I had high hopes since I saw a photo of a coffee roaster but there was no coffee here. No scent of roasting and sadly no coffee in my drinks. Try it side by side with macdonalds, a McCafe has more coffee in it than this place See photos: no actual coffee flavor in an espresso drink, the hot caffe latte I ordered was pale white. Not even milky white like there's a lot of milk, but pale white it actually tastes like water. Lastly the almond croissant was forgotten by the staff, I had to ask for it after a while. They don't toast it, they microwave it! Burning steam on the inside, almond slices soggy on the outside. Staff should really not offer to heat it...at all. We did not finish any of our orders. I went to Chocobean Coffee around 10 am on a Monday to get some work done. When I first got there, the outside patio seating was relatively quiet and I was able to get a fair amount of work done. As it got closer to 11 am, there were more people showing up to grab lunch with their kids or to meet up with friends so it got a lot noisier. If you are coming to work, I would recommend coming during "off" hours if you want a quieter environment. I ordered a sourdough bagel with cream cheese and it was delicious. Chocobean Coffee peaked my family's interest as we were in this neighborhood searching for a good coffee spot. When we saw Chocobean coffee roast their own beans, we eagerly replied "Let's go!" Chocobean was located in this small strip mall area where if you had time you could get your nails done next door. Atmosphere (3/5) Narrow spacing. Kind of awkwardly designed. There is a small Probat roaster in a front messy corner that was cool. There weren't table numbers and a few tables along the wall and outside. I liked that they had certificates to show they were a part of specialty coffee associations and attempting to improve their coffee knowledge. Every other experience or observation went downhill after this. Menu: (3/5) There appeared to be more breakfast and food items than there were coffee drinks. Sandwiches, bagels, oatmeal, paninis, salads, soups, scrambles, and wraps. Drinks: (2/5) As a coffee snob I was seeking names of single origin beans, pour-over stations, cortados, and other unique coffee drinks. What I noticed were more syrup forward sweet drinks. we saw some espresso drinks, brewed coffee, blend/frozen drinks, smoothies, and coffee alternatives. I was looking for a bit more sophistication. I did not see what espresso machine they used or what ratio they were producing for our drinks. We were unable to taste the nuanced flavors from our coffee drinks. Service: (3/5) This family owned restaurant could use some help. There was a father or older gentleman who made drinks he but didn't know who they belonged to. He handed them to me and not confirming if they were made. A younger employee/girl did the right thing and offered to make a new one for a customer who received the drinks. After researching, I realized that Chocobean has been opened for over 14 years based on their first reviews. It is impressive and I'm not sure if they are the same owner/family. Based on my observations, it appears that they have been struggling recently with limited employees. I believe they are trying to diversify and expand different groups with their food items. FANTASTIC!! This is the best restaurant/cafe I've found in Mission Viejo. Delicious food and drink options at a fair price. I especially love that they have so many bagel and sandwich options. The music playing is really nice and calming while you eat. The owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Cute coffee shop located in a small shopping center. Plenty of parking and seating available. We tried the iced caramel mocha coffee, which was chocolate milk, espresso, and caramel flavoring poured over ice. It tasted as you would predict, the staff were friendly and very quick. I've been here a few times. The coffee is good but I don't enjoy their food. I like having a pastry with my coffee. I usually prefer a cinnamon roll. Each time I've had a cinnamon roll there it has been individually wrapped in plastic, dried out, and tastes old. Also, there was an odd flavor there I can't describe. My wife had a bran muffin last time, same thing, dried out and crumbling. I'd be happy to pay a little more just give me something fresh and good tasting. First time trying out this hidden gem after church service one Sunday and it did not disappoint. Food portions were generous. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly seasoned. The coffee creations were as equally delicious, brewed with their own house-roasted beans. I ordered a handcrafted toasted almond l atte (Toasted Almond Royale) this visit and my hubby just had the house brew black. The owners greeted us warmly and we didn't wait long for our food and beverages to arrive. It's a small cafe so seating is somewhat limited. I left with a bag of their freshly roasted coffee beans to brew at home. I don't have any photos to show for it this visit, (I was too wrapped up enjoying the food, brew, and the quality time with my hubby.) so you'll just have to take my word for it and the other rave reviews they've had from fellow Yelpers to go experience it for yourself. You can get a warm, toasty, delicious bagel with cream cheese for less than $3 and the mind blowing coffees are average of $3 as well. The beans are very high quality, therefore, the coffee is more salient, which I love it! I stopped by here on my way to the park with my son after an super long week and early morning. I needed a pick me up and got the vanilla latte royale and the breakfast sandwich on the everything bagel. Sadly on my way to the car my son knocked over my cup of coffee before I could even taste it.
