The chocolates at Chocolate Secrets are definitely a reason to come back again and again, but what stands out more is the service. We were helped by the nicest gentleman who walked us through our options (truffles, hot beverages, gelato, cakes, and more). He clearly loves what he does and helped us select a few options that we all loved. The space itself is also really lovely, with an art gallery and a dedicated space for live music on certain nights. There is a reason I've avoided this place. I recently did a couple of gigs here, and finally relented on the 2nd gig to try some of their decadent offerings. I tried a 4pc sampler of bon bons (i believe: bananas foster, a coffee one, and 2 more i forgot.) SUPERB!!! But today, i went back (3 weeks later) to try some of their White Chocolate confections... SPLENDIFEROUS!!! Note, i went for the Choc, so not gig-oriented. I generally lean towards White instead of Dark chocolate, but THIS place has me ALL confused! I've never been to Paris, but i imagine they have spots like this all over the place. Great vibe, clean, wonderful employees and owner. Appreciates Jazz music. If you're reading this around Valentine's Week, go beforehand, as they may sell out of some things. (They were out of a few things, but that's the reason why!) I stopped here to quickly grab some macarons for my friend's bday on my way to her house. I hadn't been before. It was hot and humid so I had my dog in my arms and clearly was just grabbing my macarons to go. The guy helping me was very kind, and answered my questions about the flavors and some of the other items I asked about. A lady came by, the same lady who didn't greet me when I walked in, and said I need to hurry because dogs aren't allowed. I paid for my macarons and left knowing I definitely won't be back. I understand rules are rules, but it was so obviously I was in a rush and would have been there long enough to even mention my dog. Also, there's a right way to speak to someone so as not to be rude. The man behind the gelato was also super nice, helpful and patient! He let us try multiple flavors and asked us what we liked and gave good recommendations based off of our taste. I hate to say that the whole experience was so bad it was literally comical. This whole review is about their afternoon tea. For $75 per person we had high expectations. We had 2 choices for tea, which was luke warm at best. Our table had 2 towers for plates. Each held 3-top plate had fruit and deviled eggs. Second plate had mini cucumber tea sandwiches and chicken salad sandwiches. Tasted like canned chicken. Bottom plate had scones. After this they brought out a plate with an assortment of chocolates. There were macarons we were supposed to have but they didn't have them that day. We also missed out on the pecan cheese balls and they didn't have the clotted cream. The event coordinator was so unhelpful and made excuse after excuse. She was rude and condescending. The owner tried to make it right by giving us a gift card for $150 after my mom had spent over $600 for our group. We won't be back. And while it was a good idea. This is a chocolate shop, so it's pretty hard to go wrong here. The truffles are divine and there are a lot of lovely specialty chocolate gifts like a cowboy book purse. AWESOME. We go here monthly and make it a point to take guests who come to visit. Its such a great experience and SO delicious. There is a bon bon or truffle for everyones favorite flavors. So delicious! I'm not one to frequent chocolatiers, as it seems really "bougie," but I don't regret visiting this place! It's a really cute interior, with vintage-looking tables, sofas, and chairs. And of course, chocolate EVERYWHERE! I was really drawn to the earl grey bon bon, since it's my favorite tea, and I was intrigued to see how it would taste in chocolate - no doubt, one of the best chocolates I've ever had! I'd get a dozen of just this chocolate! I had the ancho chile, sea salt caramel, and turkish coffee bon bons - all really delectable! The ancho chile has a bit of a kick to it, which balanced nicely with the sweetness. I also had the take me now and spoil me truffles - I liked the spoil me better because I'm a fan of milk chocolate over dark, but I still liked take me now! To finish my experience at Chocolate Secrets, I had to get the tiramisu macaron! I love macarons and I LOVE tiramisu, so I had to try it! And of course, it did not disappoint! I consider Chocolate Secrets to be a not-so-hidden gem in the Oak Lawn neighborhood. We drove past it for at least a year or two before we gave it a try. (If only we'd known...) Since then, Chocolate Secrets become a regular for our family. Whether it's a Mexican hot chocolate and a quiet space to study or a truffle or two paired with a much-needed glass of wine, Chocolate Secrets is the perfect escape. When the weather is nice, we love to walk up to their outdoor patio and enjoy a grilled panini and spicy pecan salad or a charcuterie plate out in the sunshine. And before the pandemic, one of our favorite 'treats' was to share a slice of the chocolate mousse cake while listening to their live music performances. The BEST part about Chocolate Secrets? Surprisingly, it's not the chocolate -- though the chocolate IS amazing! It is their team. The CS staff know their product and understand how to create an experience. First time in? Try a bonbon on the house. Not sure what you want? Tell them what flavors you like, and they'll help you navigate the menu and recommend a chocolate as well as a drink with which to pair it. This is a very cute date night spot. Went there for dessert on Friday evening but unfortunately parking was a bit tricky. They have valet but no one was there at the time so had to park a bit far and walk over. After getting in, there was a line but it was a bit confusing because we weren't sure to wait in line to order and then get a seat; or sit down and someone comes to us. This is a tale of two purchases, one great and one not. I initially came to purchase chocolates for a birthday present. Although both the gift recipient and I are huge fans of truffles, I know she would appreciate the artistic design of the bonbons. I decided on a box of sixteen to try to get most of their flavors. The experience purchasing the chocolates was very pleasant. While the employee was assembling the chocolates in a nice wrapped box, I was perusing the display cases and saw a Caribbean Rum Cake. Because I was shopping during the time I'd be having a light snack, I decided to take one back to the office. I wish I hadn't as my first experience at this store soured. I asked the employee that I wanted to buy the rum cake. When he didn't understand, I thought I had mispronounced it and pointed to the item. Trying to find the item in the Point of Sale, he asked a coworker what the item was. Either the item wasn't in the system or a price wasn't listed, but he had to call someone to get a price. Eventually he charged me for a slice of cake which he told me was the same price. If I had known purchasing the rum cake would take as long as it did, I'd have just purchased the bonbons. Although the rum cake was appetizing, it was not worth the extra time it took to buy it. So, come here for the chocolates but be wary of purchasing something else. read more

I went to Chocolate Secrets with my wife who was really excited to try their hot chocolate. Unfortunately, the hot chocolate was not up to par. It was just a cup of frothed milk with very little cocoa flavor. We were extremely disappointed as the reviews had led us to believe it would be amazing. Well, this might be the only chocolate shop in the Dallas side of the metroplex where they also serve hot chocolate. And the good thing is that there's four kinds of hot chocolates. I had asked for the darkest kind, and the classic hot chocolate was recommended. Upon receiving it, I was disappointed because it wasn't dark enough and wasn't thick enough like the traditional Spanish style hot chocolate I'm used to like for churro-dipping. But at least they had powdered dark chocolate which I could use to make mine darker. There's a small plate on the counter where I could try their flavored chocolates, which they reserve for pieces that are "messed-up" - and unfortunately they weren't too good. The Rosemary dark chocolate had too much Rosemary. But I'm hoping that was the mistake. Haha. The space is really nice and extremely large for a chocolate shop though, and they also do have a full coffee menu as they have a good espresso machine onsite. There is also another room to the right (or the "back") where there is a piano and that is reserved for jazz nights. I liked that they have several jazz nights on a weekly basis. For those that likes to sit outdoors, there's also a small patio to the left. And the other things to note is that they also have light food such as sandwiches, wines, and that they make their own chocolate onsite upstairs (which I'm not sure is open to the public for viewing).
