My check engine light came on, and being new to the area I turned to Yelp. I found that this place had such great reviews, so I went. The reviews are true. They are amazing. They ran a full battery of tests and found that there was nothing wrong with the car. Instead we discovered that I'm an airhead (my words, not theirs!) and I didn't twist the gas knob hard enough to lock it thus causing the check engine light to turn on. Rather than taking advantage of my stupidity or charging me for their time and for all the tests they ran, they didn't charge me all. I always like to support small businesses and when the owners are as nice and honest as Don, it makes it an absolute pleasure! Definitely coming here for all my car related issues!!! read more

One of the most frustrating thing is when things don't go as planed. As many of us that use this app we do the research and can see that CAC had great reviews. So I called ahead of time and asked about getting an estimate. I even tried to get a quote thru Yelp but the response was "it's best to bring in your vehicle in". No problem. I call on Thursday and ask the same. I ask how long will this take so I can prepare my time accordingly. The rep guy said 20-30 I responded surprised 30 min? He again assured me 30 mins again it's just in inspection/estimate on a noise and breaks. I come in and get check in and the guy in the front says are you waiting or dropping off the vehicle? Which I say, based on the gentleman that I spoke to yesterday he said 30min has that change? His response was no. Then I told him I will wait. Of course I still plan for the worst and set a side 1hr 30min. I'm so glad I did after an 1:45 mins they are still not done with my car. Making me late to work. It drives me crazy when you asked 2 times to two different reps and they both assure you and then don't meet the expectations. What's even more frustrating is that you see them take their time smoking in side the shop and getting some smoke in your car. Now I'm not a mechanic thus why I bring in the vehicle however don't tell your customers one thing and do another. I'm all about doing a good job BUT please set the right expectations to your new customer. Now with that being said I still end up doing business with them as with all the time investment into why not! I do agree they seem straight shooters and don't BS with other things which at the end of the day who doesn't want that from a mechanic. I will increase my stars once the repair is completed. I needed new tires for my car. I tried Choice Auto for the first time and am hooked!! Not only do I think I got a fair price, but they did the work the day before Thanksgiving AND an oil change!! They even offered me a loaner car so I could get ready for the Holidays! When I picked up my car they told me the last people that did my tires didn't clear the weights...whatever that means. Anyway, car rides like a dream and almost can't wait to take back for another oil change!!!! I strongly recommend Don and his team!! They don't get any better and more honest then Don. I will NEVER go to my Subaru dealership again. I was told by the Subaru mechanic that my car would need at least a $1600 job done for a power steering rack and possibly an additional $500 job for a pump, TWO JOBS AND TWO PARTS THAT MY CAR DIDN"T EVEN NEED!!!! I was all flustered and asked one of my friends if he knew of any good mechanics in the area. He referred me to DonNot only did Don fix the problem within minutes, but saved me almost $2100!!!!! My new mechanic in Raleigh. Honest, did great work, explained exactly what was wrong and was up front about any price problems. Did not charge for a diagnostic, "We usually only charge diagnostic fees when we have to start taking things apart". Not sure if this is policy or not, but it sure beats Firestone charging me $50 for a "diagnostic" after I specifically told them what was wrong with the car (and they never got a wrench out to "determine" my problem). read more

I have a close family member who is a mechanic so all of my major work is done by him, but it's not cost effective to have oil changes and inspections done since his shop is over an hour from where I work (North Raleigh). Having been burned by Precision Auto on Atlantic and turned off by the extreme pushiness/upsell pressure of other places (like Mr. Tire, also on Atlantic) - decided to check out Choice Auto Care. Don Scott got me checked in and taken care of in less than a half an hour for a State Inspection. He even honored a local competitor coupon. I was really pleased with the experience and took a bunch of their business cards back to work. The waiting room was clean and they offer a really strong WiFi signal for customers- so that was a cool amenity. For Memorial Day weekend, I went out to Raleigh with a friend. That friend ended up taking my car and wrecking it. I had no choice but to leave my car with her family and their personal mechanic for a few days while I returned to Greenville for work. The following Friday my friend's mechanic finished my car. I was concerned that he had rushed the job with the amount of days he took to fix the damages. I decided to call around to get a second opinion on the work done by the friend's personal mechanic. Everywhere I called refused to see me since I was driving in from Greenville after work and would not get into Raleigh until about 7:00 PM. All places said they would close by 5:30-6:00 and could not wait for me. Two places said they would charge me for the wait. All places could not help me except for Choice Auto Care. The owner Don said he could sense I was worried and stressed about the situation so he agreed to wait for me to get into town, pick my car up from the other mechanic, and bring it by his shop for inspection. When I arrived, he was in the middle of his dinner. He wasted no time. He began by going over the damages in the invoice and making sure they were taken care of first. He found a few things that were done poorly and fixed them himself. He added fluid where it was needed, push pins to secure loose parts, and did a thorough safety inspection. He also talked me through what he was doing so I fully understood what my car needed. This made me feel comfortable and safe because he made sure I knew what he was doing. By the end of the inspection, I was getting ready to pay for his time and service. He told me not to worry about it and he had no problem helping me out. All he wanted was for me to feel safe and have a place I can rely on. I live in Greenville but I now come to Choice Auto Care in Raleigh for any car issues because they care and make sure I am satisfied. We need more people like this around! read more

My car needed a very expensive repair, and after diagnosing the issue these guys actually referred me to a different, unaffiliated shop that specializes in that particular repair and could do it for much less money. I saved hundreds of dollars and these guys got no benefit except the satisfaction of having helped a customer save money. They're obviously invested in helping their customers get the most affordable auto care possible, even if that means sending them to a different shop. Last summer my children and I were driving from Texas to N.C. to visit their grandmother. Our A/C stopped working - made for a long, hot trip! Stopped at Choice and was impressed with the owners willingness to help us, since we were out of state. He took my car to the lift and got his mechanic so they could both brainstorm over why we had no cold air. Instead of making us get a hotel room for the night they diagnosed the problem and explained that the last shop had filled the free-on too full, adding to the problem.
