My friends and I were visiting the Ballantyne area of Charlotte for the weekend and wanted great Indian Food for dinner. Cholanadu was highly rated here on yelp, so I picked it. It's located in Fort Mill, a quick drive from the Ballantyne away from the city. Cholanadu is located in a shopping center, with plenty of parking. There's a nice amount of tables and booths inside, there is also a small bar area with about 6 or so seats. We were seated right away on a busy Saturday evening at 7. There was one open table being cleaned. It was perfect, because we were all so hungry. The service was amazing. Everyone was so friendly. Once they brought our water to the table and the menus, they gave us time to look at the menu. We all knew what we wanted, so it didn't take long. One of my friends has a nut and a gluten allergy, and they had no issues with ensuring her meal was made to her needs. Our food came out in a decent amount of time for as crowded as it was. Our food came out perfectly. And every single bite was sooooooo delicious. I was stuffed, but didn't want to stop eating, but I was excited that I had left overs so that I could enjoy the yumminess all over again the next day!! The food is decent. Our group ordered items to go online for pickup and was told about 20 min. I get all the way home and realized that they forgot an item within the bag. When I called to advise them about the issue all they said was it was their fault and that we should come back and get it mind you it was not busy and they only had one table seated at the time so that mistake shouldn't have happened. So it was major inconvenience that I had to leave the gathering again to go back to there restaurant for there mistake. The ambiance of the restaurant was ok did have to wait awhile to be helped but advice would be to make sure everything is there before leaving as they don't care to check items before it goes out . read more

We've been back a few times since my first review but this past time will be the last time. Quality seems to have dropped. The restaurant is clean and we were seated right away for dinner. The restaurant was full but not packed and a constant stream of take out orders coming and going. It definitely felt like the kitchen was very slow to get food out. It may have been an off night but nothing had the spice we remembered, we needed to ask multiple times for drink refills and the check and it definitely felt like we were an afterthought to the online orders. Their curries are among the best in the mecklenburg/York Area, service has never let us down. My favorites are the pompano and tandoori chicken. A lovely respite from the mostly lacking culinary scene of South West Charlotte/Tega Cay. However, that is slowly changing. This gold nugget fills my heart with glee every time I enter and provides a sense of hope for this area. Staff are wonderfully pleasant and attentive. Inside is bright, clean and modern. As soon as you enter you are lightly kissed by the aromas of love wafting from the kitchen. As you take your seat you can't help but notice the other patrons already enjoying their delights, perma-grins painted accross their faces. Reassuring you of your decision. I've tried almost everything the menu has to offer and they've never disappointed. I would suggest, however, the chicken 65, butter chicken, saag paneer, gol guppa shots, and any of the vindaloos if heat interests you. They are also very adept and catering to different spice levels for softer palates. By far the best Indian restaurant I've experienced in or around Charlotte. read more

Good food! We ordered tandoori chicken in appetizers, and it was delicious. We got roasted papad while we waited for food and it was served with delicious chutneys. In entrees their chettinadu chicken was good - I've had better at other places but here it was good too. We tried Hyderabad style biryani, and that didn't disappoint. Rice was fragrant and flavorful. Went on a Saturday at around 7:45pm. And they close at 10pm. They were busy. And unfortunately they were short handed. Only two people working and the whole restaurant is full. If it's not then table are left unclean.. I'm not taking stars off for that. It's not their fault. I order my usual when I go to an Indian restaurant. Don't judge me. But I like what I like.. mango lassi-cold, nice and sweet Samosas-does have a kick. But the chutney goes nicely with it Aloo gobi: now this dish is different then how it's made compared to other restaurants. I'm ok. Not really my favorite And of course the chicken tikka Marsala: I love it. It's comforting because it's taste the how I remembered it The not so usual that I ordered: Butter naan: I'm not sure if I'm supposed to taste the butter or ghee. But it tasted plain to me. Parmesan naan: I just tasted a hint of cheese. Very light. But I wouldn't say it tasted like Parmesan in my opinion. And we alway have a block of Parmesan in our home. Something we don't go without. All in all: since it's closer to my house.. This is definitely my go to from now on. I really hope they can find more help.. and I hope I'll get to try something different on the menu since Indian used to be a treat.. read more

Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior, this restaurant brings the flavor! It's located in a strip mall in Fort mill and has a large parking lot with plenty of parking spaces. Our waitress was the chefs wife Kim, who was a delight to talk to and had us laughing a lot. She recommended the Lamb Samosa to start and the hubs loved it. Not fan of lamb, I got the Samosa chaat, which had loads of wonderful Indian flavors and nice textures. We also ordered the Goat Vindaloo, Chicken Korma, and Naan. We both agreed that the Korma was one of the best we have had. The goat meat was really flavorful and the naan was hot and accompanied everything perfectly. I would order it all again in a heartbeat. We had heard so much buzz about this new Indian restaurant so we had to check it out! We started out with samosas, crispy and delicious served with a spicy and sweet sauce. We ordered butter chicken, saag lamb and tikka masala chicken, all served with fluffy rice. The flavors were perfect. We asked for mild and it was right on point. We wanted Indian food and this one was new to us so we thought we'd give it a shot. We ordered samosas to start and they were excellent. I ordered the salmon tikka (medium heat) my husband ordered the paneer tikka and asked for extremely spicy. The tikka sauce was the same on both dishes and it was so sweet that it almost tasted like a dessert. His was supposed to be extra spicy and it had no spice at all, neither did my medium spice level. Portions on the entrees were small but you're overloaded with rice. Our friend ordered tandoori chicken which came out sizzling and looked really tasty. Blue Taj used to hold that spot, but Cholanadu's food is at the same level and is much closer to my home. They're in Fort Mill SC. Ordered online for carry out. Their confirmation email didn't include a pickup time. I know their food is not usually lightening quick so I arrived after 35 mins and was told my wait would be 20+ minutes more. Got home with the food - one chicken korma extra mild and one chicken tikka masala extra mild - and both are so spicy I could only eat one bite. We are very familiar with Indian spice levels and know this was certainly not extra mild. Not even close. I called to request a refund and their phone rings once and hangs up. Terrible experience.
