All I can do is laugh at what a joke this place is! Wanted a quick lunch, ordered 1/2 a turkey sandwich and a cookie.....total came to over $14! Sandwich has no lettuce, no tomato, no mayo, no mustard, no cheese.....it's literally meat and bread. The sand which came with potato salad that is in such a small container that it MIGHT be 3 bites. The lemon cookie has good flavor but is rock hard and I suspect several days old. Oh and it took over 10 mins for them to make this....I was the only person at the takeout counter. Just want to start by saying I expect to wait on a Sunday for brunch....today though was a extra wait, so about 40mins to get seated...cool, but once seated another hour b4 we got food and then when food came another 15 just to get silverware and be told to be patient by our waiter....SMH. Never had matzo ball soup until last year when I attended the UYE here, and now I'm swinging with the best of them. Cant get enough of that dish (or bowl). Totally perfect for when you're not feeling so well. Its even great when you feel fine. The Pastrami is great too. My favorite sandwich is their Reuben with Pastrami (you can get it with corned beef). Their potato pancakes are served with applesauce and sour cream. I adore them. We were told a 15-20 minute wait, three other families after us were seated and then after 15 minutes waiting we were told 30-45 more minutes... I'm pregnant and suffer from low blood pressure and low blood sugar, I was looking forward to having breakfast and I think that a little more of a notice or at least acknowledging that they let 3 other families ahead of us would have been decent. Usually I'd give this location all 5 stars but after this visit, my opinion dropped a star. Why? Well, first of all because our table was really wobbly and would move whenever we'd lift up our drinks to take a sip, or move ANYTHING on the table. Second, because it was so freaking COLD in there, due to the ceiling fan above us on full speed and the A/C blowing down. I shivered the entire duration of the meal. Our friend had to keep reminding the waitress, and the helper who helped serve our food, that he ordered cocktail sauce for his All You Can Eat Fish & Chips. It took FOREVER to get that to him! We all got the Fish & Chips Friday Special...while it was pretty good, my fries were too done for me to the point I could only finish about half of them...and just having recent oral surgery, I couldn't eat anything super hard or crunchy due to sensitivity and the surgery areas in the process of healing. My fish, however, was just right and I could eat it without fail. Took home a piece of Red Velvet Cake for dessert. The cake itself was dry and the frosting was perfect. I was rather disappointed. Both delicious and so big we had to bring half home. I also ordered a side of chopped liver. They had to make it for me and the server apologized for the wait. It was worth waiting for. I went to try this place because of social media. They said it was "amazing". Well, it wasn't. I ordered the crispy chicken wrap with cole slaw. Friendly cheerful service despite being crazy busy on a Friday night. I had the all-you-can eat fish and chips. The fish batter was light and crispy, not too greasy, and the fish was tender and flavorful inside. I did get a large bone in one of the pieces of fish I ate though : ( The fries were nice and crispy, and the coleslaw very flavorful. We made the trip from Mesa to the Chompies in Phx. They have a wonderful bar and excellent outdoor seating. We came for brunch during the week and had a nice quiet time on the patio. Bloody Mary Bar was fun, and delish. Food was large portions and easy to split some of the dishes. We had breakfast potato skins. Really good. The table also had yummy French toast, eggs and sausage and a sandwich. Everyone was satisfied either their selections and the service was great! Oh, we then had desserts from their pastry bar! The food was amazing. My husband and I went in for take out before I took him to the airport. They were slammed, naturally but the young brunette at the register was working very hard and doing a wonderful job keeping a good attitude considering a woman had just passed out and the fire department was there. Also, the elderly woman before me was being very rude to the poor girl. Our food took a while, so I asked how much longer it would be, and she was very kind to let me know it would be 5-10 more minutes. I was hoping not to add to her already busy day. She did not make me feel bad about asking - she was very sweet. I've been to Chompies in the past and it was great but tonight--and it's not to say I won't be back because I will... Had dinner tonite, matzo ball soup (their matzo balls are crushed crackers packed together), decent; corned beef and cabbage..way too much food, very thinly sliced corned beef, only slightly warm, cabbage was wonderful!, side salad, too big, too much with everything else....went to bakery...cannoli and eclairs looked great....got home for dessert....ugh..they were horrible..nasty..possibly old, but just not good.. bakery case is packed with goodies...don't know about the turn over time...maybe shouldn't make so much! read more

Even better corned beef on this visit. Tried some food to go and that worked out well. The corned beef literally had to fat and the wedge fries are always a solid choice. Check-in for the free Black and White cookie and the fact that you can order only a 1/2 sandwich is great as the mile high stuff is pretty big for lunch. Stopped in for Saturday brunch around 11:00 or so... 20 minute wait for a party of five. They have a nice selection of bread, bagels and cookies to take home after you eat. The loaves of bread looked really awesome! I'm definitely going to add it as a stop in my grocery shopping circle. It's conveniently located on the way to the Chandler Costco. The Baja Burger 14.99 is ridiculous! It could easily feed 2 people or just a hungry teenage boy. I ordered a half turkey sandwich and had to take a lot of the turkey off so I could actually eat it. As someone who has been to NYC, this is definitely true deli food.  Chompies offers traditional deli selections (pastrami, corned beef, etc) and a wide variety of other menu items.  The size of the plates are huge, so good value for money. Restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with a NYC subway theme.  This place gets busy over lunch time, but service was quick.    I also like the breakfast they serve - bagel sandwiches in the morning.  There is also a huge selection of deserts behind the counter to go.  This place is more than just what you see on Man versus food with the Jewish Slider challenge, there is a lot more to this place. read more

I was in the area a few of days later, so I stopped by Chompie's. I arrived at 11:20 on a Wednesday and it was 1/3 full. I got the daily special: Pastrami Bagel Melt, which came with Cole Slaw and a free iced tea. Sadly, I saw a family leave without ordering cuz they waited so long for service. My server greeted me right away. My lunch arrived in seven mins. I guess pickles are a big thing cuz each party received a tray of dill spears. I never liked them so they went ignored. My bagel sandwich was served open faced on an 'everything' bagel. There was plenty of meat on the sandwich, along with melted cheese and a hint of mustard (more at the table). The flavors were all there but it was a very difficult sandwich to eat. Even open-faced with a knife and fork, it kept falling apart. I think the bagel was over grilled. Something is always wrong or missing. Each time we go the server misses something. Menu, pickles, mustard, napkins, utensils etc; something is missing. Waiting for the missed item can be long time. Recommend corned beef and pastrami on rye with steak fries. Also smoked fish platters are delicious. I've enjoyed their breakfast plates with eggs etc. Buy a jar of the deli mustard. The cookies, pastries and breads are delicious. Try a knish or potato latkes on the side. I can't eat it all so I have lunch for a couple of days after, at home. read more

What a shame. Terrible experience at the Chandler location. We went for breakfast and both ordered the 2 egg special. We were charged for a bagel so only eggs/potatoes/or fruit came out with the "special for &19.98". My husband asked for his potatoes crispy. They didn't come out as ordered so my husband refused them. We were not offered a replacement or any compensation . So for $33 (without tip) we had Pepsi/ice tea/2 eggs each/fruit /two bagels and no potatoes. Are you kidding me? Waiting to hear from the management on this one. Awful experience. read more

I had a busy day ahead with appointments and had a few minutes for a quick breakfast so I decided to stop here because it was the closest sit down breakfast spot and I am so glad I did. As soon as I walked in I could smell the delicious scents from the bakery. They had such a wide variety of sweets. I can tell they have a lot of regular customers because everyone in front of me was being called by their name and it seemed as they already knew their order upon greeting them. They have a bakery/deli, a bar, and a regular sit down area, as well as patio. I decided to sit at the bar and my server Nicole was quick to take and bring my order. Somehow I sensed that she noticed I was trying to be quick, which I loved. She was attentive, sweet, and extremely professional. I ordered the All American breakfast and oh boy, was I surprised of the portion size. Haha it was huge, another plus! Not to mention delicious. Exactly what I was in for. I really like the food here and it's especially good for bagels and morning cuisine. It has a great counter where you can look at all of their meats and desserts. When I stopped there last, I got a little more than I bargained for. I stopped in to get a take-away bagel and the customer in front of me was being very difficult. They did not want to pay for their cream cheese, okay I get it there are difficult people. When this difficult lady left, I just wanted to move on and not dwell upon it. Then the cashier continues to complain to me as I was placing my order. It felt very awkward to be complain to and I tried my best to change the topic but it just kept coming up. Furthermore, I got a earful when the cashier started yelling at one of the servers right in front of my very eyes. Then the server went into the kitchen and started yelling at someone else. This is a great place and I have been coming here for years, but I think I will reconsider knowing how much drama there is here. First time coming here, will not come back to this location again. Stopped in around 9 in the morning to get a bagel and coffee. They were good, but the service sucked. First off this place seems like they are poorly run. The bagel was cold when I asked for it to be toasted, and there was so much cream cheese it was just Globbed on there and oozed out the sides.... and they didn't have regular plain half/half for my coffee! Cmon... what kinda of breakfast place doesn't have the basics... and they didn't have coffee stirrers.... I was given a straw... Better off just buying the bagels and bringing them home. read more

I have been to each of the Chompies locations, this one is my favorite, but all of them have had great service and fantastic food. I love that they have potato pancakes, which is the first thing I ever ordered from them and they didn't dissappoint! They even give you apple sauce for them, which rarely happens places. The smoked salmon is delicious and is my current favorite things are the ones that have it on it. I'm not a big fan of the complimentary pickles they bring to the table...they just aren't pickley enough for me, they kind of just taste like cucumber that have sat in vinegar for a little while. read more

Came here with high hopes but was disappointed. The huevo ranchero was decent but nothing spectacular. I would suggest skipping the ice coffee as well. The worst part was my sister in law asked if they had anything vegan and they suggested making her a skillet with different types of vegetables but when it was given to her it had cheese so she couldn't even eat it. The only reason I am giving them three stars is because they had some of the best bagels I have ever tried and their cream cheese with chives was amazing.
