I've tried pretty much every sandwich shop within 3 miles of my work, and Planet Sub is one of the few that I crave after several months away. I believe this franchise was taken over by a couple who seem to run the whole operation, from taking orders to making the sandwiches to cleaning up. I haven't see another employee around. They are friendly and do a good job of running the place. If you haven't been to a Planet Sub, they have a bunch of sandwich options and they all come on their toasted hand-rolled bread (I think it's white but it may be wheat...after 15 years I still don't know...) . I've tried about 5 different sandwiches over the years but my staple is the Superhero (their take on the Italian). The Dagwood's Dream is another favorite (Roast beef, pastrami, ham + veggies). Their prices are still good...typically on the lower side of their competitors for the half sandwich. The shop itself is just the right size- seating for about 20-30 people tops, one of the mini Coke Freestyle machines and a small shaded patio (overlooking fake wilted plants in the common area...so strange). They make a good sandwich no doubt! Bread is fresh made and you can taste it. For the most part the ingredients are fresh as well. I usually get a turkey sandwich (the creamy turkey sandwich) but I pivoted today and got a cheesesteak and I wish I had not. It was not good at all. The steak was small pieces, mixed with onions and green bell peppers, and maybe mushrooms but I couldn't tell as the pieces were so small. It honestly tasted awful. They top it will provolone and creamy italian dressing. If there was cheese on this sandwich I couldn't tell. The dressing added an interesting flavor component that I didn't like nor understand. If they ditched the dressing, and added cheese whiz this would be a huge improvement. And also change the meat they use (it has a premade/frozen taste to it), that too would help. So with that said, if you like/love cheesesteaks, DO NOT GET IT HERE. Also, they serve their sandwiches toasted so if you want a cold sandwich you must tell them when ordering. Okay, I was mildly annoyed that I couldn't view their menu online to order ahead for pickup. When I went to their website, I was prompted for a zip code to assist me in finding the nearest location. Typing in the zip code returned the location down the road from me. Great! I clicked on "Pickup" and it errored out with "Something Is Wrong Sorry, something went wrong with your request. Please try again in a few minutes." D'oh! Refreshing the page didn't help either. I was using Firefox and I didn't bother to try another browser as I had already decided that driving down there to place an order would be faster. Their app doesn't work either. (shrug) I was greeted immediately upon entering. I perused the menu momentarily and settled on the Dagwood's Dream with chips and a drink. I retrieved my chips and filled my cup with soda. They have one of those soda dispensers with a digital display, so you have quite a few options/combinations if you're into that sort of thing. Lacking imagination, I went with straight Dr. Pepper Cream Soda. Inside, it was very clean and tidy. It's not a huge place, but there was an ample number of tables inside and a few outside on the patio. A few minutes later, the gentleman who took my order, emerged from the kitchen with my sandwich in a paper bag. When I got back to work, I grabbed the sub out of the bag and began peeling back the aluminum foil. I was surprised to discover that the sandwich was toasted. It's not a big deal at all. I just didn't see any mention that it was a toasted sandwich. The sub tasted great! Maybe it's just the carnivore in me, but I did wish that it had just a few more slices of meat in it. I loved the horseradish sauce that was used. Next time, I'll probably get a half sandwich with double meat and extra horseradish sauce. Now that would be my Dagwood's Dream come true! Hah! I failed to take a picture of my sandwich because it looked so good and I dug into it right away. I honestly didn't think about taking a picture of it until the very last bite was gone. This seems to be a common issue with me, so I'm going to do my best to change that. Planet Subs has a decent-sized menu and there is something for everyone. If you're not in the mood for a sub, they offer salads and wraps as well. There are a few other sandwiches on the menu that I'd like to try in the future. read more

Me and my boyfriend just moved nearby and found PlanetSub. We were very impressed and have already been a couple times. Appears to be family owned and the staff is very friendly! I had a craving for an Italian sub and fortunately this place was open for another 30 minutes to help me fulfill my light night craving. The gentleman took my order and went back to cleaning. Lots of options and customizations available on the menu. I couldn't pass up upgrading to a large for a couple bucks more. The bread was nice and soft and had a good chew. TLDR; Good sandwiches, excellent customer service, and just overall a nice family-owned and operated restaurant. Planet Sub is severely underrated. They make their bread fresh from scratch every day and it competes with some of the best I've had at any major sub sandwich chain. Most of their sandwiches are served warm, so think of it as similar to Firehouse Subs. The Ocotillo location is rarely busy and you're able to order and receive your food in 5-10 minutes. The restaurant is run by a young Asian family. Every time we visit we see the wife helping to make the sandwiches while the husband takes the orders and communicates with the customers in the front. I usually order "The Experience" which is one of their original baked sandwiches. It has a slight kick with the jalapeños, but is perfectly mitigated by the cream cheese and layered with three different meats (pepperoni, bacon, and chicken). My wife prefers "The Torpedo" which is equally as good. read more

First time at a Planet Sub eatery. Different vibe. The cashier wasn't very helpful and not very knowledgeable. I had to order a Ham and Swiss Classic and tweak the sandwich entirely. I had never heard of Planet Sub but while out running errands, it popped up in places to get lunch in chandler, so we decided to stop. I can say that the sub was fine and there was nothing wrong with it at all. I just can't give a five because I wasn't wowed by it. We both got toasted subs. Mine was a club of some sort and my boyfriends was a tuna. He loved his. I would try it again to see if there was anything that stood out and really blew Me away. Otherwise, good spot! Everything was solid about this place. The subs are not something that will blow your mind but they are very good. Quality meat, cheese is tasty and the bread is toasted and homemade . Yum! Great and quick lunch for out-of-this-world subs. I got the full Experience - bread is amazing (a whole grain that's soft n nutty) and it was packed with chicken, bacon, pepperoni, etc. Eating the entire sandwich for lunch had me hurting for the rest of the afternoon, but when the sub is that good, I couldn't stop!! Also, as a rookie I started to unwrap the foil, but pull the ends apart to reveal the goods. They offer daily deals (of which I didn't take a picture) so you'll have to check this place out yourself! On Wednesdays you get a full sandwich for the price of 1/2 a sub, so that's a place to start. read more

PS has been getting a lot of my lunchtime business lately. Usually go for the sub, but on a whim, decided to order a Chipotle chicken wrap. Why do they call it a wrap, because essentially, its a sandwich, in a burrito. I'd much rather be eating a "Sanrito", which makes me think of Hello Kitty. Conversely, the "Burwich" makes me think of Burma, now called Myanmar, which makes me think of self-immolating monks... which brings me right back to the roasted chicken in this here wrap. read more

Two days ago, I tried the Mom & Pop place, Can't Stop Smokin BBQ. Now, here's another locally owned family place. As I lamented in my other review, 'There is so much homogeneity in our dinning experience today. Everything is so cookie cutter.' Yet, here is a small place trying to get a toe hold into a very competitive sandwich market filled with the afore mentioned giants. But the only problem is.... is.... that Planet Subs is also a Chain. D'oh!! Albeit, a very small one. I had their toasted Dagwood's Dream, which I thought was tasty but somewhat lite in the quantity of meat they put on it. It certainly didn't look (photo) like the old Blondie comic (photo) strip. Yet, it was tasty and I will probably come back to try it again. If I do, I will absolutely ask for extra meat. LOL Their Premium Sandwiches run $5.99 for the six inch and $8.99 for the twelve, which seems like the new norm in the industry, except at Jimmy Johns. Just ok. A little pricey. Recently ordered a ham and Swiss and when I got home discovered it was a ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and with Dijon mustard. That's not even on the menu. And I was the only one there ordering at the time. Plus lettuce was old. If I go there again (not likely), I'll have to open it up and check the sandwich before I take it home. read more

Today I admit my false opinion of this sub shop. We made fun of it a month ago and now I missy eat my words. I feel this only pertains to their double meat subs. I feel we would have not been as happy surprised at the regular Subs. Soo you may be getting the vibe that I'm writing Fire's stars for the double meat subs and that we liked them and will now no longer shy away from a sub shop. It used to be half-price subs on Wednesday and like everything the price went up. Okay I get it somewhat but they nickel and dime you on everything and they don't do substitutions. We got a total of 3 cucumbers on a foot long so I wasn't surprised when I couldn't find them at first I use to love this place but I probably won't return again. After a long day of moving into our new home, we decided to run over to Planet Sub for a quick lunch break. The customer service at this restaurant was good, and we were able to get our meal very quickly. When we started eating I wasn't terribly impressed by my meal-my sandwhich was good, but nothing more than average. Toasting it was a nice touch but there was too much sauce which drowned the sandwhich and almost made the bread soggy. Might come back, might not. Overall 3 stars! read more

I have been eating here for a couple years now and am just now putting this review up. I think I've probably tried about half the sandwiches on the menu and my personal favorite is The Experience sandwich. I love spicy foods, so this sandwich checks that box for me. I have recommended this place so many times, its incredible. I have not had one person who ate with me and tried the experience sandwich tell me it was not good and some have even told me it was their new favorite. You just gotta drop in and try their sandwiches. The Planet Sub, way good. The Dagwood, oh man! I don't think I've had one that was that bad to say anything bad about this place. First time trying this place, joined co-workers for a quick lunch to-go. Honestly, I wasn't overly impressed. It was lunch hour, so not surprising it was rather busy & crowded. But, impressively quick for it being the lunch rush! The sandwiches are definitely a step up from other sub shops. But, I didn't notice options for a variety of breads, only wrap options aside from the standard subs. And while there are some interesting combinations on the menu, a lot of them seemed repetitive. I had the turkey club, and don't feel it was something I'd return for. It doesn't come with cheese, which is a little weird, so had to pay extra for that. And while I like toasted subs, I don't like the shredded lettuce used. It ends up pretty soggy & gross after going through the oven. Wish they would add it after the fact, or just use regular lettuce so it doesn't get as soggy as the thin shreds. There was barely any mayo on the sandwich, so it actually was pretty dry, being turkey. You can't see them making the sandwiches, so you're really at the leisure of whomever is making the food... and we all know some just throw things together. That's kind of how I felt about my sandwich. I've noticed a pattern with these newer, fancy beverage machines... they run out of popular drinks waaay too often. First selection was out. Second selection also out. Ended up with one of the teas, which is fine, but I would have skipped paying for a drink had I known there wasn't much to select from. The cost was really decent, though. About $7 for 1/2 a sub, drink & chips. Felt reasonable, and affordable for a quick lunch out! But the food was underwhelming. Just didn't live up to expectations & I can't say I would be eager to pick this place over other options in the area. It's definitely a step up from Subway & Quiznos, don't get me wrong- I'd pick this over other chains for sure! I just don't think they put a whole lot into their food when comparing to some better sandwich shops, so it was good to try, but not exceptionally great or special. Nothing really makes it stand out. But I will most likely give it another try another day, because it is conveniently close to work & a quick, affordable bite for a busy day. read more

This guy will literally call you a liar over an error they made when filling your order. First instance was ordering delivery where the sprite was delivered to the wrong home. We called and he essentially called us a liar saying he delivered it only to acknowledge that it was to the wrong house. Today he continued to call us a liar for another order filled incorrectly. I don't usually write reviews, but I am tired of being scammed. If you go to this Planet Sub location, pay close attention to what they charge you. On Wednesday's they have their any footlong special for $7.99. My first time was a good experience and a great price. The 2nd time I called in my order to pick it up and was charged full price, when I questioned it I was told the special doesn't apply to orders called in. Didn't make much sense to me, but I am willing to follow the policy. The 3rd time I went inside and ordered, and was again over charged. I waited for my sub so I could double check the receipt before questioning it. They handed me my sub but no receipt. When I asked for a receipt I had to wait and when I was given my receipt I was charge $10.99 instead of the $7.99 special. I just left, feeling scammed and disappointed. I only have 30 minutes for lunch and didn't want to waste anymore of my time with a business that scams their customers. read more
