I've eaten enough hot pot over the years to know exactly what this place is trying to be. The problem is that it feels like nobody here cares enough to execute it. The first thing I noticed wasn't the broth. It wasn't the vegetables. It wasn't the meat. It was the cleanliness. Water was spilled across the table. The window ledges were dusty and dirty. The surfaces around our booth looked neglected. For a restaurant built around a communal dining experience where you're sitting there staring at the table and surroundings for an hour or two, details matter. Then came the service. Our server seemed irritated by the simple act of having customers. I asked for a watermelon juice that was listed on the menu and got a curt response that there was no more watermelon. Restaurants run out of things. That's not the issue. The issue was the attitude. I was there with my wife and our two young kids, ages 2 and 4. When you're dining with little ones, you notice very quickly whether a restaurant is welcoming families or merely tolerating them. This felt like the latter. The food itself was okay. That's almost the problem. The vegetables looked like they came straight from a grocery store produce section. The broth was fine. The ingredients were fine. Everything was technically acceptable, but nothing felt thoughtful or memorable. What frustrated me most was the gap between what this place could be and what it currently is. Hot pot is one of those meals where you're paying for more than ingredients. You're paying for comfort. Hospitality. Atmosphere. The feeling that someone actually cares about the experience. Instead, I found myself staring at dirty surfaces, wiping spilled water from the table and wondering why nobody seemed particularly interested in being there. My daughters and I genuinely enjoy eating here. I think it's Chinese style hot pot, but they have a wide variety of veggie and add-in selections. We enjoy their sauce bar. We typically always get the beef and pork as our meat selection and enjoy their noodle, veggie and Korean rice cake add-ins. Service is fine. They keep our drinks refilled so I can't complain. Came here twice, one time during lunch and one time dinner. First time I went I wasn't impressed and I wanted to give a 3-star review. Not sure if it was lu ch time so they didn't schedule that much staff so our orders took very long time or just didn't come. Staff was also just standing at corners chilling instead of serving the diners. This time service got so much better when we came back for dinner. I could see there was more staff. And they were all very attentive and patient. Food wise everything was good. So you are given three rounds to order, but you could order as much as you want each round. We tried the meat, the vegetables, noodles, seafood, and they were all good. They are food choices are little different than Shabuya, things that you usually see a Chinese hot pot. This is one of my favorite hotpot places on island! Very good selection of Chinese hotpot items and it's nice to sample different items we've never had before. The broths we got (herbal, spicy, numbing, and tom yum) all had good flavor. Service was great too with refilling drinks and water. I stumbled upon this spot on Yelp and love doing ayce hot pot as it always is more worth it for my boyfriend and I. This place was very spacious and had no wait at all on a Saturday night. I love Chinese hot pot broth and enjoy mixing the herbal broth with a little bit of spicy broth. Most ayce places allow a mixture of both free of charge but this place charges $5. Both broths lacked flavor, even when mixed together which was disappointing. However, they had a pretty large variety of add ons which I enjoyed. You can order some of them with the server but majority of the ones I liked were next to the sauce bar. My favorites included the fish ball with roe, bean curd, and the meats. Service was pretty good here and they were attentive to all of our needs. My favorite part of this place was that they had such good unlimited drink options. The coconut juice in the can is one of my favorites on the island and their wintermelon tea is to die for. The perfect amount of sweetness and I would come back just for this drink. Recommend parking in the garage, and making your way up the floors until you see the restaurant! Super clean space. Small sides and sauce bar at the back of the room, but it's made up for their large variety of veggies, soup bases, and other additives. Three rounds available for ordering, and the wait staff is attentive! They are quick to grab your clipboard the moment you jot down the next set. Occasionally the flavors will feel a little plasticy depending on what things you get. It's in the old Ward's shopping center and I didn't even know it was there on the second floor at the top of the escalators. It's AYCE and my friends had been there many times before so I think they knew them? I don't know, but we got a huge table for 8 of us. You go and get your own sauces and fried desserts and crispy skins. Then you check the list of available meats and seafood, tofu, veggies, etc. I think there are 3 rounds (not sure if you can go beyond 3), but you can order as many quantities for each round. The food was all really good and the meat was I think good quality. Doesn't matter, I just ate until I was full. You get winter melon tea for free, I think, but it was too sweet for us. My friend wanted to have dinner at Ching Quing we sat down looked at the menu and started ordering, the food came out efficiently and the side order buffet was fully loaded with spices and chips. The selection was delicious as you can choose whatever you want from seafood to meats and vegetables. The spicy one has that legit Szechuan kick without overpowering everything. Supreme beef and short plate beef are my go to meats and the portions are huge, which I love. We tried Chong Qing Hot Pot last night since the cold weather had us craving something warm and comforting, and hot pot sounded perfect. Starting off, things were great. We went as a party of three on a Friday night around 6:30pm with no reservation and were seated in under 5 minutes, which was awesome. Parking is super convenient since you can use the Ward parking structure nearby. Once seated, utensils were ready for us and ordering was simple -- you order off a paper in three rounds. It's $38.99 per person for AYCE. The food itself was the highlight. The soup bases were flavorful, the meat quality was solid, and everything from our first round came out quickly. Definitely satisfying and exactly what we were craving. Service and consistency is where things fell short. Drinks weren't offered when we first sat down and we had to place a drink order after our soup and first round of meat arrived. We also never received any refills. On top of that, we ordered a lot of veggies and sides during rounds two and three, but about half of those items never made it to the table. The sauce bar could've been cleaner too -- a few of the dishes looked a bit dirty. Overall, the food quality is there, but the service and follow-through need improvement to match the price point. Came here as was craving hot pot. I haven't been to this place since it was Little Sheep many years ago. Layout is the same with new branding for new restaurant name. Went a little after opening on Saturday and there were only a few other groups there (~5) so the restaurant was quiet. The broth: The server informed that we could do individual pots or share a large one. We chose to share so we could have two kinds of soups. The original was super good and was nice and light. The spicy had a good flavor in the beginning, but as it kept boiling, the chilies inside became more and more cooked, which turned the broth a little bitter towards the end. So many choices in Honolulu, HI and this has to be our favourite place. THe food is fresh, clean and well organized and they maintain the quality and the refrigerated items are cold not warm. The customer service is truly Ohara, the restaurant is clean and maintained. We have been eating at this place for a couple years now and we visit every 6 months when we are traveling to Hawaii. In addition to the great food, the staff are also fantastic here. They are super attentive and check in on you often, and they're very friendly. Reservations are for parties of four or more, and the wait can be as long as an hour for 2 on a busy night, so I recommend calling ahead to check. The ordering is a little different - they gave you a clipboard and a piece of paper and you mark how many of the items you would like. This includes the meats, seafood, and vegetables. They have an area that you can make seasoning with maybe eight options . On the same card they have fruits Jell-O, and the little bread that you put condensed milk on.... It's OK.. It gets busy and sometimes hard to wave down staff member. It's nice because you can make reservations ahead of time. Of course, reservations are to be made ahead of time, but I'm meaning a week or a month in advance. It's about $40 a person. The other costs for kids are by height. I forgot what the time limit was. We were going to have dinner at the Indian restaurant in the same plaza but the line was too long. Someone in our group pointed Chong Qing out and we decided to give it a shot. They had plenty of seating available that evening so there were no lines when we got up to the buffet areas. Having been to many hot pot restaurants before this one was on par with others. My companions had never been to a hot pot restaurant before and indulged in too many bowls of rice, which ended up making them feel overly full when we left. Service was so-so, as sometimes our water was not boiling, and at other times it was overboiling...the guys working that evening were not very attentive. My husband and I dine here ALL the time. It has become our go-to AYCE hotpot spot and for good reason. You order from a checklist menu and you can order as MUCH as you want each round with 3 rounds total. There are LOTS of meat, seafood, veggie, and starch options. I love to get the seafood (especially the fish fillets), fishballs (the fishball with meat filling is my fave), and veggies. The noodle variety is also awesome. My favorite broth to get is the tomato broth - beware that the "spicy" broths are quite spicy. There is a sauce bar that also has appetizers/desserts. I love getting the seaweed salad, the fried doughnuts with condensed milk glaze, and the shrimp chips from here. I also love the variety of sauces too. The service here is very quick, and because we go so often, they even know our drink orders by heart. We always get warm smiles, and I don't have any complaints at all about the service. The seating is spread out so it's very comfortable to dine here. The music is also a fun addition to the ambiance. We went on New Years day, because nothing else was opened, and were SO blown away with how yummy everything was. There was a waitlist, but since we got there at opening, we were seated no problem. You get a menu where you can mark off the broth, meats, veggies, starches and seafoods that you want. It's broken down into R1, R2 and R3, for the three different rounds you can order. You write down how many of each you want per round (ex. 1 order of pork, 3 orders of lettuce, etc.). There's a sauce bar where you can make your own sauces and add toppings, and the broths come in a personal pot so you can enjoy your own. Prices are really reasonable; $34 for weekday lunch and $39 for weekend lunches and Dinner. Be aware of the 90 minute limit, and don't over order because you may need to pay a fee if you leave too much food. The service was SO quick and attentive.
