I've eaten enough hot pot over the years to know exactly what this place is trying to be. The problem is that it feels like nobody here cares enough to execute it. The first thing I noticed wasn't the broth. It wasn't the vegetables. It wasn't the meat. It was the cleanliness. Water was spilled across the table. The window ledges were dusty and dirty. The surfaces around our booth looked neglected. For a restaurant built around a communal dining experience where you're sitting there staring at the table and surroundings for an hour or two, details matter. Then came the service. Our server seemed irritated by the simple act of having customers. I asked for a watermelon juice that was listed on the menu and got a curt response that there was no more watermelon. Restaurants run out of things. That's not the issue. The issue was the attitude. I was there with my wife and our two young kids, ages 2 and 4. When you're dining with little ones, you notice very quickly whether a restaurant is welcoming families or merely tolerating them. This felt like the latter. The food itself was okay. That's almost the problem. The vegetables looked like they came straight from a grocery store produce section. The broth was fine. The ingredients were fine. Everything was technically acceptable, but nothing felt thoughtful or memorable. What frustrated me most was the gap between what this place could be and what it currently is. Hot pot is one of those meals where you're paying for more than ingredients. You're paying for comfort. Hospitality. Atmosphere. The feeling that someone actually cares about the experience. Instead, I found myself staring at dirty surfaces, wiping spilled water from the table and wondering why nobody seemed particularly interested in being there. My daughters and I genuinely enjoy eating here. I think it's Chinese style hot pot, but they have a wide variety of veggie and add-in selections. We enjoy their sauce bar. We typically always get the beef and pork as our meat selection and enjoy their noodle, veggie and Korean rice cake add-ins. Service is fine. They keep our drinks refilled so I can't complain. Not sure if it was lu ch time so they didn't schedule that much staff so our orders took very long time or just didn't come. And they were all very attentive and patient. Food wise everything was good. So you are given three rounds to order, but you could order as much as you want each round. Occasionally the flavors will feel a little plasticy depending on what things you get. I stumbled upon this spot on Yelp and love doing ayce hot pot as it always is more worth it for my boyfriend and I. This place was very spacious and had no wait at all on a Saturday night. I love Chinese hot pot broth and enjoy mixing the herbal broth with a little bit of spicy broth. Most ayce places allow a mixture of both free of charge but this place charges $5. Both broths lacked flavor, even when mixed together which was disappointing. However, they had a pretty large variety of add ons which I enjoyed. You can order some of them with the server but majority of the ones I liked were next to the sauce bar. My favorites included the fish ball with roe, bean curd, and the meats. Service was pretty good here and they were attentive to all of our needs. My favorite part of this place was that they had such good unlimited drink options. The coconut juice in the can is one of my favorites on the island and their wintermelon tea is to die for. The perfect amount of sweetness and I would come back just for this drink. Was craving shabu and when a local friend said we should meet up here for dinner, I was all in. It's in the old Ward's shopping center and I didn't even know it was there on the second floor at the top of the escalators. It's AYCE and my friends had been there many times before so I think they knew them? I don't know, but we got a huge table for 8 of us. You go and get your own sauces and fried desserts and crispy skins. Then you check the list of available meats and seafood, tofu, veggies, etc. I think there are 3 rounds (not sure if you can go beyond 3), but you can order as many quantities for each round. The food was all really good and the meat was I think good quality. Doesn't matter, I just ate until I was full. You get winter melon tea for free, I think, but it was too sweet for us. Parking is super convenient since you can use the Ward parking structure nearby. Once seated, utensils were ready for us and ordering was simple -- you order off a paper in three rounds. It's $38.99 per person for AYCE. The food itself was the highlight. The soup bases were flavorful, the meat quality was solid, and everything from our first round came out quickly. Definitely satisfying and exactly what we were craving. Service and consistency is where things fell short. Drinks weren't offered when we first sat down and we had to place a drink order after our soup and first round of meat arrived. We also never received any refills. On top of that, we ordered a lot of veggies and sides during rounds two and three, but about half of those items never made it to the table. The sauce bar could've been cleaner too -- a few of the dishes looked a bit dirty. Overall, the food quality is there, but the service and follow-through need improvement to match the price point. Came here as was craving hot pot. I haven't been to this place since it was Little Sheep many years ago. Layout is the same with new branding for new restaurant name. Went a little after opening on Saturday and there were only a few other groups there (~5) so the restaurant was quiet. So many choices in Honolulu, HI and this has to be our favourite place. THe food is fresh, clean and well organized and they maintain the quality and the refrigerated items are cold not warm. The customer service is truly Ohara, the restaurant is clean and maintained. We have been eating at this place for a couple years now and we visit every 6 months when we are traveling to Hawaii. We were going to have dinner at the Indian restaurant in the same plaza but the line was too long. Someone in our group pointed Chong Qing out and we decided to give it a shot. They had plenty of seating available that evening so there were no lines when we got up to the buffet areas. Having been to many hot pot restaurants before this one was on par with others. My companions had never been to a hot pot restaurant before and indulged in too many bowls of rice, which ended up making them feel overly full when we left. Service was so-so, as sometimes our water was not boiling, and at other times it was overboiling...the guys working that evening were not very attentive. It is always kind of shocking how pricey hot pot restaurants are for a place where you cook your own food - alas, it is what it is. If you go in hungry, you will leave satiated for sure! read more

My husband and I dine here ALL the time. It has become our go-to AYCE hotpot spot and for good reason. You order from a checklist menu and you can order as MUCH as you want each round with 3 rounds total. There are LOTS of meat, seafood, veggie, and starch options. I love to get the seafood (especially the fish fillets), fishballs (the fishball with meat filling is my fave), and veggies. The noodle variety is also awesome. My favorite broth to get is the tomato broth - beware that the "spicy" broths are quite spicy. There is a sauce bar that also has appetizers/desserts. I love getting the seaweed salad, the fried doughnuts with condensed milk glaze, and the shrimp chips from here. I also love the variety of sauces too. The service here is very quick, and because we go so often, they even know our drink orders by heart. We always get warm smiles, and I don't have any complaints at all about the service. The seating is spread out so it's very comfortable to dine here. The music is also a fun addition to the ambiance. We went on New Years day, because nothing else was opened, and were SO blown away with how yummy everything was. There was a waitlist, but since we got there at opening, we were seated no problem. You get a menu where you can mark off the broth, meats, veggies, starches and seafoods that you want. It's broken down into R1, R2 and R3, for the three different rounds you can order. You write down how many of each you want per round (ex. 1 order of pork, 3 orders of lettuce, etc.). Prices are really reasonable; $34 for weekday lunch and $39 for weekend lunches and Dinner. Be aware of the 90 minute limit, and don't over order because you may need to pay a fee if you leave too much food. The service was SO quick and attentive. Personally this is my favorite hotpot location. They tend to be quite busy the past couple of times I have visited to keep that in mind. I tried to call ahead of time to ask to put my name down but they said we had to come in to sign into the waitlist. When we got here we were given an estimate of 15-30 minutes. However, less than 5 minutes later we were seated. Very pleased with the experience. With such a large restaurant they're bound to small details such as your water, but if you ask they're quick to fill it right up. When we ordered we made an accidental mistake for one of the broths and we asked politely to change it and they happily obliged with no problem. The process is straightforward, when you are seated you're given a piece of paper where you will order with (including the broths). You get 3 rounds. Under each round you can put the quantity of that item. Don't be shy when you put the quantity of the meats down, the images I have included was orders of 4 and then 6 (of each meat in separate rounds) it looked like the exact same to be honest. Self Serve Station: This is where you can get your sauces designed to what you desire. They also have small sides such as various fruits (ex: pineapple, cantaloupe), seaweed salad, peanuts, shrimp chips, and mini fried mandoos (last time it was sesame balls) (with condensed milk). Ordered: I got the spicy marrow broth.
