Since this place was next to the Vietnamese joints, I decided to give it a shot for a quick lunch. It is a small place so there was not much of ambiance to talk about especially it was for a quick lunch. For the quick lunch set, I picked the sukiyaki lunch set. The meat was fine and the little veggies that came with it. I think it was good enough for a simple meal. But I was disappointed of the miso soup even though it was not the main dish. The miso tasted like an instant package soup base. It didn't seem like they bother to make any effort to make a real miso soup. The Yakiniku Bento Box was SUCH A COOL EXPERIENCE! I didn't see anything about this on their website, but I did see it on their Instagram, so I called to confirm. I called in an order for the bento box, and chose short rib, strip loin, pork belly and garlic rice. Check out their insta for more details on the bento boxes. My order was ~$32/box and was ready in 15 minutes! After pick up, we enjoyed the bento boxes at Kahala beach. The box includes everything you need, although I recommend bringing your own lighter/matches because the one supplied is difficult to light. The meat was delicious, tender, and juicy. The tiny grill worked like a charm as well! There's also sauces, kimchi, and picked radish included in the box. I came with my partner after a long days' hike and walk around the area. I am a HUGE fan of japanese BBQ and love gyu kaku, as well as have been to japan many times and order japanese bbq there as well as in the US frequently (maybe once every 2-3 weeks), so my standards are elevated. Visiting folks seem to like this place so I had high hopes. When I came in, the waitress seemed pretty busy as the only person, but she was attentive. There was a fly on my seat and she promptly removed it, as well as removed a dirty plate and gave us a clean one with us asking. I was impressed! The interior is similar to japanese taverns that I see in Tokyo. Pretty consistent with what I usually see, even the menu font was similar. I ordered a wagyu sukiyaki, iberico finger rib meat, beef tongue wagyu, harami skirt wagyu, and mushroom sizzling pot. Unfortunately, the beef tongue was out of stock, so I couldn't get it, and I decided to just drop that item instead of ordering an alternative. The Mushroom pot came and the cook actually dripped oil on my phone. I was mildly irritated but I could somewhat understand, because it was a cook and not the waitress. The wagyu sukiyaki wasn't bad! I loved the egg and rice with their spicy miso sauce. Unfortunately, the meat wasn't that tender, and I almost chocked while eating it after it cooked. I was a bit surprised since it looked like fairly marbled meat. The harami skirt steak was a bit of a letdown. It was similar in taste to gyu kaku's harami, but the portion size wasn't too big. For $25, I expected it to taste a bit softer, but after cooking, 1 of the 5 pieces was hard to chew, and the rest were a bit more tender, but none of them consistent with what I thought wagyu should taste like. The iberico finger meat was pretty good. My only gripe was how much we got for how much we paid, but it was my favorite of the meats. Overall, the service of the waitress was great, but the quality of the meat was a bit of a letdown, the oil dripping on my personal items was saddening, and the price for what I got missed the mark a bit. But...because it's beef Tongue, I think it's understandable why it's priced that way. It really deliverered for sure. I never had beef Tongue before, and yet having tastes it, I have to say...it wasn't that bad. Super tender and the sauce really was delicious. Since I was ballin' on a budget at the time, I decided to get Bibimbap (and I sure didn't regret it because it was the bibimap I adore with the right amount of flavor and sizzle. I was not that hungry, so I just ordered an additional side of pork belly, which was a great complement to the bibimbap. I wanted to try their lunch dishes but I didn't make the time cut off, so I'll definitely come back to try them! Street parking wasn't bad at all, and their place had its own restroom for customers. Located on Cooke Street, may the parking gods be in your favor! We made a reservation online and confirmed that via Google for a future Saturday. Got an email confirmation and everything. The Saturday before the res comes along and I received a call saying that they were going to release our table if we aren't there within the next 5 minutes. So confused, I checked my email, and I had the correct date, they made a mistake and said they would move the reservation to the following week like my email stated. Sure enough, got there on the following Saturday and our res wasn't there. Needless to say, they were able to find us a table for 4 on a busy night, thank goodness! Long story short, the menu has many different options to choose from whether it be yakiniku to hot pot. Items are made to order, so they were coming out as they were being completed/prepped by the kitchen. The Wagyu Tartar Gunkan was definitely the unexpected star of the evening, serve us up a platter of that and we're good to go! Stumbled upon this Japanese restaurant while waiting for a take out order at Phuket Thai, and knew I had to come here one day after reading the Yelp reviews. Parking was difficult to find, but we ultimately prevailed. I thought the restaurant would be busy because it's the weekend and many students are graduating, but there was only 1 person dining in. We ordered a side of French fries, fried oysters, 1 yakiniku bowl, 1 wagyu bowl (1/4 lb,) and 1 steak with garlic rice bowl--everything was delicious. This was my first time having wagyu beef, and lemme just say, it was to die for! The sauce it came with was also really good, a nice gingery flavor and not too sweet. The sauce that came with the steak and garlic rice bowl was too sweet for our liking, but that was okay since we ended up using my sauce for everyone's bowl. Not gonna lie, we were a bit worried that the restaurant would be too hot, since someone mentioned in their review that they didn't have a/c, but we were met with a nice surprise of cool air during our entire dining experience. We want the Sizzle! We want the A5 Wagyu! We want Yakiniku Sizzle! This place is located at the corner of Cooke and Queen St., next to Niu Baguette and New Queen BBQ, across from Bookoff. There's only metered parking. It's a Japanese Yakiniku restaurant that offers A5 Wagyu and regular US Wagyu (which I don't recommend). They also have Nabe (need a one day advance reservation). If you don't want to pay an arm and a leg at Han no Daidokoro, come here! Very reasonable prices! The inside really has a Japanese feel to it. I came here twice. The first was during Happy Hour from 4-6pm. All alcohol $2 off and a few heavily discounted items (not your typical $1-2 off). The Washugyu Brisket ($6 off) was surprisingly disappointing as the meat was not tender even with different cooking times. The Marianted Thick Wagyushu Shortrib ($8 off) was much better. Just plop it on the grill and let it sizzle away. The meat was tasty and tender on this one. The Wagyu Tongue Stew ($6 off) is highly recommended!! The tongue was oh-so tender. The sauce was flavorful, and the portion was huge with four thick cuts. The Deep Fried Oysters were excellent. Fried and battered nicely and perfectly cooked oysters. The accompanying sauce was awesome. It was like a spicy mayo, but with a really good spice kick. When I ordered the Garlic Mushrooms, I thought I'd get a variety of mushrooms (as shown on the menu), but it was only button mushrooms. While garlicky and delicious and rich, the mushrooms were bathed in a lot of oil. I could've used that to oil the grill! Lastly, we ordered the A5 Wagyu Ribeye. You get one big thin slice, so make sure the grill is HOT--for the sizzle! You gotta have the char or else you're just cooking it...and lose its oil. The seasoning salt and wasabi were key and elevated the Uber rich and tender Wagyu. My second time, I came here for lunch and grabbed a Wagyu Roasted Beef Bowl (1/2 pound for $21.95). They have awesome lunch sets and lunch bowls!! It's a lot of rice, but also A LOT OF MEAT. Felt like 1/2 pound rice and 1/2 pound meat. The rice was perfectly cooked. Moist, each grain was separated, but slightly clung together, and also well seasoned. The beef was awesome. Thinly sliced, tender, and the accompanying sauce was very tasty and flavorful. Savory and umami. Glad they give two container! It was definitely quite filling. Overall, a solid experience at Yakiniku Sizzle. All the meats were quite fresh and the service was excellent. The menu offers a lot- from humble fries to beef tartare, liver sashimi for the adventurous. The beef is premium and A5 wagyu beef--there was even a certificate of authenticity posted on the wall (complete with the nose print of the beef cattle!) The lunch set for $20 is an excellent value. We got salad, 3 banchan pickles, 3 choices of meat and refillable wakame soup and rice. We also tried the beef tartare topped with a fresh egg. Wow!! Came here for lunch with my boyfriend for the lunch specials. My boyfriend walked past on his way to the gym and saw they had specials for lunch and said we should come back. The lunch specials are a pretty good deal (sorry, forgot to take menu pics in my excitement). We came on a Thursday for lunch around 3:30PM and there is no meter parking allowed from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. We parked down the street in front of the new storage space and walked over. The restaurant was empty besides one other customer. Service was quick and friendly as usual. As usual, the food was amazing. I got the quarter pound wagyu beef bowl and the sauce was savory. They put the sauce on the side and you can drizzle how much you want or dip the meat. It's a LOT of meat over a big bowl of rice. The ajitama was flavorful and the yolk was soft, but not runny. My boyfriend got the lunch special. He got the short rib, loin and pork belly. We came for lunch and arrived as the first people to dine in on a Friday. They had several people waiting for take out orders and shortly after we ordered, the restaurant filled up. This place is popular! After dining here, I can see why. They are legit! Customer service was friendly but it did take awhile to get our drinks and we had to remind our server as he was kinda all over the place. Aside from that, the experience was great. We ordered their lunch special with 3 choices yakiniku set. This came with rice, soup and salad. The meats we opted for were Prime Short Rib, Harami and Wagyu Tongue. We also ordered Wagyugyu Finger Meat and Wagyu Sushi w/Uni. They sear the Wagyu Sushi right in front of you. We enjoyed grilling the meat to a perfect medium rare. I've walked past this restaurant several times. Read the menu that's posted outside the restaurant and told myself that I need to try it. But today, I saw a friend waiting outside for their order and highly recommend the curry omuroce, officially called Omelette Curry Rice. I love eggs and I love curry, so why wouldn't I try it. Ordered it to go...the curry is in a separate container for you to pour on when ready to eat. Firstly, the meal comes with fresh green lettuce and a nice sesame dressing. The light and fluffy omelette is perfectly placed on a bed of rice. I carefully poured the Corey over the omelette and rice. The curry is mildly spicy and super flavorful. Hands down the BEST yakiniku place in town! I was with two of my friends and we ate ALOT of Wagyu. Total was around $350, which was pretty reasonable for this kind of premium meat. I have to say, this price is better than a lot of the Korean bbq place in town We order a lot of different Wagyu and Outskirt meat. They were all premium and DELICIOUS! We went on a day where it was slow because there was a parade happening, which was a good idea. The meat was coming out faster than usual. The meat portion was thick and large, which made me leaving super food. The employees that worked there were very helpful on understanding which meat is recommended and what we should try.
