When I was new to Eastern/Central NC, I was astonished by a restaurant sign for a Pork BBQ sandwich. Needless to say I was shocked, surprised, dismayed, and disappointed by this vinegary, chopped "mess". Fast forward to today, and I'm totally enamored by the vinegary chopped pork contrasted by creamy, crunchy cole slaw! Also, a few shakes of hot sauce never hurt 'nobody! When in the area, this is a great opportunity to satiate that addiction. We ordered the chopped BBQ plate, smoked chicken thigh, fried chicken sandwich. All very solid options. My least fav side was the cucumber salad, as it was too vinegary and could have benefited from a pinch or two of sugar. The BBQ was tender and flavored with a vinegar base (missing a pronounced smoke flavor). There is also the option to add a tomato/ketchup based BBQ sauce. While this is located in a gas station there are a few high top tables with chairs and we ate there with no issue. A very nice surprise today finding this hidden gem inside a Shell gas station. I have seen it several times driving past on Six Forks, but today I needed some bbq. Large portions, lots of side dishes and extremely friendly and helpful service. We couldn't decide on dishes to go, but ordered the brisket with a side, chicken salad with a side and also the chopped bbq with side. Each came with Cole slaw and hush puppies. They also came with a drink. I really enjoyed each, but especially the chopped bbq. The smoke and seasoning was very prevalent and went well with the Cole slaw. The chicken salad is especially tasty as well. There's a couple of places to sit inside, but we decided to try a little of each at home. This place is great! Who doesn't love bbq inside of a gas station. Ordered the bbq pork sandwich with slaw, side of mac and cheese. It also came with a couple pork rinds and hush puppies. My partner ordered the brisket plate which was a special with a side of cowboy beans. The pork sandwich was delicious, as well as the brisket. Solid sauces and pulled pork. The chicken sandwich was pretty good too. Meat wasn't dry. We got the chicken sandwich and the pulled pork plate and the side of beans, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and the stew. They both came with hush puppies and a choice of drinks. They hyped up the broccoli salad but we opted to just save it for next time since there's no swapping sides and you'd just pay the full price of the side not the difference. Passed by this place for years. Thought it was a food truck. They have a kitchen that is tucked away in the corner of a convenience store in a gas station. This place serves up some great eats. The pork BBQ was nicely seasoned. The tang from the vinegar is offset by a hint of sweetness. The beef brisket special was fantastic. The meat was well cooked but had a nice chew unlike some brisket that falls apart. Platter came with slaw, a side and a drink. The potato salad was creamy and crunchy with some peppers. This business is located inside of a gas station. They do have a drive through but it was closed the day that I visited. I placed my order at the counter & it didn't take long to get my food. I got the BBQ chicken with Mac & cheese, hush puppies & coleslaw. The mac, hush puppies, & the mustard dipping sauce for the hush puppies were good. ‼ I had a very concerning experience at Chop Shop BBQ on June 28, 2025, around 1:30 PM. I saw the cashier/server handle pulled pork with her bare hands, mix it with sauce, and eat directly from the container -- then go back in with her hand. No gloves, no hand washing. It was disturbing and completely unsanitary. I hope management and health authorities address this immediately. This is a serious food safety issue. read more

So glad I did!!! The menu is simple, but incredible. Today I had the fried chicken sandwich, fries and tea. What have I been waiting for?!!! It's on the side of a gas station / convenience store, but do not let that fool you for a minute. It's the real deal!!!! I'm not a big BBQ fan but I was very impressed by the quality of the food here! I got the pulled pork plate with the Mac and cheese, and I really enjoyed it. I had a great conversation with the employee while she prepped the order, which was wonderful. I found it funny to find this place in a gas station, but I think it adds to the ambiance of a BBQ place. Meh. Two pulled pork plates and a side each of "cowboy" beans and Brunswick stew. The quantity served was generous and the hush puppies were good but that's about it. I'm guessing that the que is shoulder rather than whole hog but this isn't Western Carolina style as another reviewer suggested. No pepper, either black or red, and the sauce is just too sweet. I was content with the smoke flavor, my dining partner found it lacking. I put the word "cowboy" above in quotation marks because I have no idea what makes the beans cowboy-ish. They're served in a greasy, thin liquid with large clumps of ground beef and more sweet sauce. The stew suffers from a similar problem - too thin and too sweet. I feel like the food could be good if they cut back on the sugar and tightened up the sides but based on the insanely laudatory reviews I'm seeing here, sugary que is what people want. read more

I'm so glad Offline Raleigh made me aware of this (conspicuous) place off Six Forks. I didn't have any idea it was there, namely because it's inside a gas station. But don't let that dissuade you! I got the pork BBQ platter which came with a spoonful of coleslaw, two hush puppies and two sides. I went with the broccoli slaw, which was delicious, and banana pudding. Hands down, the best I've ever had! It tasted like they'd added a pinch of cinnamon which gave it a little kick of sweetness. They do run out of food so don't wait too late in the day, and also check their site for when they're open as they have odd operating hours. After checking out multiple other BBQ places around Raleigh, this place, HANDS DOWN, has the best smoked pulled pork! It's the western Carolina style BBQ with red vinegar - tangy and delish. This little hidden gem was a treat on a night we didn't want to cook. When we arrived they were actually out of a lot of things due to supply shortage - so we didn't get to try some of the things we were truly interested in. The star of the show was the beans - cowboy beans! They were soooo good with the hamburger and onions mixed in. The chicken sandwich was tasty as well. Randomly looked up this place on yelp and saw the 5 stars and it did not dissapoint. We wanted NC Bbq because we came from NoVA and it looked sus at first but it has a drive thru to comfort you. The lady at the window was super nice and polite, she blessed us with the extra hush puppies and because it was our first time here and we were from Virginia, she even gave us banana pudding! Seriously the best hospitality. We got both the bbq plate and chicken bbq. The chicken bbq was moist and had that smokey touch to it. The bbq has its juices at the bottom so make sure to start from the bottom and it will not dissapoint. The mac and cheese was divine and the hush puppies were honestly the best i've had (gotta eat them hot!). Lastly, the banana pudding was absolutely delicious. Luckily I looked at the menu because I was almost charged an extra $4 for my order. I got a BBQ sandwich topped with slaw and a side of mac 'n cheese. The BBQ was not not shredded enough so it was very tough to eat as a sandwich but the meat had a good flavor. The mac 'n cheese was okay but I really liked the hushpuppies.
