We have eaten in other Chop locations in Western Canada and have found them to be consistently a good choice. The Stony Plain location was no different, other than a single bobble that could have been easily avoided. The service is typically excellent, and this evening was no different. The staff is well trained and have a checklist of things to cover while you dine there. It's almost a little too formulaic, with not a great deal of personality occasionally. The decor is a little bit upscale, but not pretentious at all. The drinks are well prepared, although I will say my martini glass was amongst the smallest I've ever been served. Our entrees were good, K's steak spot on, my halibut was well cooked, but the cauliflower rice seemed a bit strange. The cod dish also looked very good although the piece of cod seemed a little on the small side for close to 40 bucks. We also ordered a wedge salad to share between K and I but it was dropped less than a minute prior to our entrees so it sat untouched. The only misplay of the visit, but it was recognized immediately. The Asst Manager was Johnson the spot, came over right away, apologized and said they would take it off the bill which they did. Other than that, everything was great, and we will be back the next time we are in Oil country! read more

From start to finish, this meal was spectacular for everyone. Table for 6 in the "fancy" booth with the velvet walls. We had steaks, chicken, ribs and fish. All the plates were great except my side of broccolini was a bit cold. Several of us enjoyed the flavourful mashed potatoes while others thought the rice pilaf was the best side. Green beans and squash (pumpkin?) were the seasonal veg. We normally don't order dessert, but 5 of us were coaxed. The blueberry cheesecake was the winner with the pineapple upside-down cake a close second. Excellent service. It's a quiet dining room. We got a last minute reservation. I got steak with a side of yukon mashed potatoes and they were both delicious. The steak was so juicy and seasoned, and the mashed potatoes were creamy and so flavorful. My wife and I were visiting Edmonton, Alberta on business from Georgia, USA. We're staying at the Sandman Hotel (17635 Stony Plain Rd.) for a couple of evenings, and next door to this hotel is the Chop Steakhouse Restaurant and Bar. We're so glad we decided to eat at this restaurant. It's a great place to eat for a date night, a business meeting lunch or dinner, or just eating out with friends and family. The atmosphere is casual, laid back, and there's plenty of parking. The wait for being seated wasn't long. The entire staff and service was awesome. Ask for Lucy if you come. Tell her, 'Her Georgia friends recommended the Chop Steak House'. My wife and I started with some soup. She had the French Onion Soup, and I had their Soup of the day, Prime Rib Crème Soup. Amazing starters. We both had the Prime Rib Steaks as our main entree. I had the large prime rib, and she had the regular. It was one of the best prime ribs I've ever eaten, and in my travels, I've eaten at some amazing places. It's so good that we're bringing some business associates here tomorrow evening for supper. I highly recommend this restaurant. Everyone one that came to our table was gracious, kind, and helpful. I very rarely give five stars. You have to be spot on ... on customer service, food, atmosphere, etc. This place is a must if you're in the Edmonton area. Come hungry and come with friends! You'll be glad you did! read more

The worst person you know just made a great point.........It was Canada. And how they make great steaks. Chop was delightful. Service was over the top too friendly, but I think that's just how Canadians act. Our server, Nick, gave us the best possible experience we could have asked for. He even gave me a firm handshake after my meal. The prices looked outrageous, but then I realized they were in Canadian dollars, and that their dollar is far inferior to ours (even with sleepy joe at the wheel). I ordered the 7oz filet paired with the Yukon mashed. It came with veggies, but i think that was just there for the presentation. Honestly one of the best meals i've had. I guess I shouldn't have expected much from this chain steakhouse here in this Edmonton location. It's partly my fault for not ordering a steak but instead a Ceasar salad and their Lobster Mac and Cheese for the main course which really wasn't very good at all. I left most of it in the plate and ordered a French Onion Soup as a filler. I didn't think any photos were worthwhile here. Upon reflection I think I should give this restaurant an extra star because the staff, and particularly the manager tried to please me after realizing I was unhappy with the meal, and did remove the Lobster Mac and Cheese from the bill. read more

For Valentine's Day this year, my partner and I decided to order takeout- getting into the pandemic spirit, right? Chop had a 3 course meal for 2 deal on their website so we took the plunge to try it out. For my entree, I had the miso glazed salmon and OMG... it was phenomenal. It was perfectly cooked and the miso glaze was although subtle, it seemed to work perfectly with the salmon. Chop truly is one beast of a steakhouse. My partner had the ribeye and requested it to be cooked rare. Chop delivered and the steak turned out to be a perfect rare. My favourite way to end a meal is with a good dessert. The chocolate torte is probably my favourite- rich and decadent. Just how chocolate tortes should be. Having worked in a bakery, trust me when I say the chocolate torte is good. All in all, Chop is probably one of the better steakhouse chains in Edmonton. I would probably rank them alongside The Keg (which I love equally). read more

attended a work dinner on a Monday and the first thing I was impressed with was how well staffed the restaurant was. We were led to a beautiful private table and our server Yvonne greeted us within seconds. She knew the menu completely and everything she recommended was delicious! Our glasses were never empty and outside of a couple minor kitchen related issues every Bite was superb! the manager even took the time to come by our table to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. Ordered through Skip. Had the prime rib and chicken wings. I had requested medium rare on my prime rib but it was medium well. Was really delicious otherwise and I would definitely recommend it. Was super tender and flavourful. The wings on the other hand were a disappointment. They were really dry and didn't taste very fresh. Wanted to order the smoked ribeye that everyone seems to be raving about but they were sold out. Meal wasn't cheap by any means but was to be expected at a place like that. We were looking for a nice restaurant for dinner to celebrate a special occasion. Although I have seen the restaurant from the outside, I never gave it a second thought to try it. I looked at the menu before making a reservation, and saw there were steak and seafood dishes, so perfect for my husband and I. I made a reservation online and received a message from a bored sounding girl the afternoon of our dinner. We arrived and were shown to our booth. I'm glad it was away from the busier part of the restaurant but it was closer to the kitchen so we could hear the cooks instead. The restaurant was busy for a Thursday evening, likely frequented by those doing 'business' in their suits (but really there to eat meat and drink wine and charged it to their multi million dollar companies). I had the drink special, only $5 for a tall glass. I can't recall the name but if you like sweet drinks, you would probably enjoy it. I had the crab and shrimp cakes for $12.50 and the macadamia crusted mahi mahi for $28. There were 3 cakes and they had a crispy shell on the outside which I wasn't a fan of but I was surprised there were 3 cakes for that price. They weren't the best I had but decent. The mahi mahi was served on a bed of arugula and mashed potatoes. Again, I wasn't expecting 2 pieces of fish but it was a pleasant surprise. I liked the mahi mahi as it was nice and flaky and the macadamia gave it some crunch. I would have preferred it served with a different vegetable though. There was a lot of mashed potatoes, too much for me. We were encouraged to have dessert but with our bellies full, we declined. We were given a card with a coupon for dessert on the house for next time. I would rate the food 3.5 but the server was very attentive and she boosts this to 4 stars. I hope I'm reviewing the correct location. We went to the one close to West Edmonton Mall. Expensive, as to be expected, but honestly not THAT expensive considering it's a steakhouse. I'm pretty sure we spent $110 including the tip for two people, granted we didn't drink. My husband got the filet minion and I got the baby back ribs. The food alone was PHENOMENAL and the service was fantastic too. Tara, our waitress did a really good job. They also took my unusual anaphylaxis case seriously. Oh wow, this place brings a smile to my face. Parking is available in the nice large lot out front. The inside is pretty consistent with other locations, with the dim lighting, convex mirrors, and those oh-so-fuzzy velvety seats. The appetizer platter is a total beast. You get prawns with cocktail sauce, beef skewers, beans in plum sauce, garlic bread, and chicken wings. Also 3 more sauces. This could easily be a meal by itself. Truly epic. With your main course, you can do the Chop experience, which gives you 2 sides instead of 1, and also a soup. For soup I had the seafood chowder. It wasn't bad, but I wish it came with some crackers. The Kansas City steak was really good. One of the best steaks I've had in Edmonton, hands down. Cooked just right, with plenty of pink/red inside. The baked potato was stuffed with just the right amount of cream and green onions. As the 2nd side I had a dish of mushrooms. These things are a bit high on the salt, but they were fresh, and scorching hot. Beautiful. My colleagues also ordered a dish of asparagus, and these were cooked just right as well. Beautiful. Service was very professional. I was extremely happy with the experience, and felt like a king. This is what I'm talking about. The place is worth the extra few bucks. Recommended. read more

I prefer this place over The Keg now, as I just find the steaks so much better here. Took my dad for his birthday and he enjoyed his steak and lobster, as well my mom liked her ribs and even had enough to take home. My steak was made perfectly, as I like some pink in it. There was a bit of a mix up on the orders, but kudos to management for coming over to fix things, which he didn't need to, as I still enjoyed my meal. Our server, Kendal was awesome too and one reason why I love coming here, great and attentive service! Sorry Keg but I'm now a Chop convert! read more

Now that the Keg near my house has shut down, I needed to find another good steak place. I tried this place out and was hella impressed. I found the staff were quite willing to do whatever needs be to keep the customers happy. I saw this happening at my table and others so it seems to be consistent. The food here is tasty and the drinks (albeit I only tried the virgin cocktails) were artistic. I would highly recommend the rib eye house-smoked with alder, apple & hickory, a cut I would never normally eat. But the way they treat it, I am salivating just thinking about it. It is a MUST. There is a chocolate dessert that I fell in love with. Fallen Chocolate Soufflé Cake. I had to have two. Pro-tip: the bathrooms (at least the ladies) have two doors out going to different places....so make sure you keep track of which one you came in. read more

Two words, Prime Rib. Oh man, I'm not always a fan of prime rib but I've never had one this good before. The meat is tender and flavourful, every bite in fact. Served with creamy mash, topped with green onions and in house made horseradish. I also tried the maple bourbon haddock which was dreamy. It's a bit spicy, a little bit sweet and it packs a punch... but not as much as the spicy prawns. They were so good my tongue was nipping with the garlic. The decor is classy and upmarket but not so that you don't feel uncomfortable wearing jeans or casual attire. The lounge/bar area is trendy and the dining area is well laid out, with well decorated booths. There are some quirky things to spot too, like the top hat lampshades and you can't miss bull outside (with the big balls) it's a talking point with the staff. Speaking of which, all staff were chatty and knew lots about the restaurant, including recent renos, menu tips and they were mega attentive along with it. Fantastic first visit to Chop. read more

We went for lunch and it was great! First off the beef dip was actually prime rib on a bun, looked so good. My hot chicken sandwich was also great. Though to be honest not to hot. The service was great, quick and attentive. However the parking was awful, I mean you could park in other lots and walk but who wants to do that. It looked like they did have private rooms if you wanted to rent one out for an xmas party. But it is a steak house so bring $$$ read more

All of the CHOP locations differ in decor, which is nice since they aren't cookie cutters of each other. We enjoy all three locations. Parking can be a bit challenging during some peak hours but it isn't terrible by any means. Generally you will get a fairly warm welcome at the front door, but it can be hit or miss in terms of enthusiasm. You have the option of the dining room or lounge as their is no patio at this location, both are fine and decorated nicely. We have been here many many times so I will give general comments on my experiences. The food is always great. Steak bites, cheese toast, and tempura are the best appetizers. The chop and Berkeley salad are yummy and my favorite main are the braised short ribs. You will usually get a large amount of meat and a tasty sauce with a side of your choices. The wasabi infused mash potatoes can be great or can be not so good depending on the night. The steaks are generally fairly flavorful especially the teriyaki and peppercorn steaks. The go to dessert is the Caribbean rum cake which is super unique and very tasty. You will generally get a visit by a manager throughout the meal and the staff work as a team to fulfill your needs throughout your dining experience. Chop Steakhouse (& Seafood) & Bar is attached to the Sandman hotel on Stony Plain Road & 178th Street in West Edmonton. I had the pleasure of eating there daily for 3 months during training for work. The catered lunch got a little old after a month or so but the restaurant itself was pretty darn amazing! Their Macaroni & Cheese was to die for! I really enjoyed the little things like wasabi flavored mashed potatoes. The downside however, is that their unique flavors like wasabi are cooked into the batches in the morning so you cannot order mashed potatoes without wasabi which really rubbed my husband the wrong way since he's not a wasabi fan. The dining room is trendy and classic and the bar is pretty swanky for a hotel restaurant. They really do have excellent quality steak and seafood... and they should as the prices are on the high end. If you're looking for a trendy and intimate place for a date night - I'd highly recommend Chop! The place is always clean and the service friendly! They get 4 stars from me instead of 5 because they are a little on the pricey side and while it's nice to have wasabi flavored mashed potatoes - it would be nice if some of the sides could be ordered without the unique flavors for those who are not as adventurous. read more

Giving a 5* rating at a resto is a toughie, especially at chain steakhouse in Edmonton, the land of chain streakhouses, but this particular Chop deserves it. And you can see from my other reviews that I haven't always been such a big fan of Chop in the past, so you know I'm being genuine in my love for this Chop. Every meal I've had here has been spectacular. My steaks are perfection. My sides are delish. My appies are to die for. And the selection of beer and wine and complimentary. This is beautiful restaurant. All cozy and classy and atmospheric. The staff are second to none and make you feel welcome and at ease. There is no pretense here. Parking and access are super easy, it's right in the heart of West Ed and being attached to the Sandman hotel makes access a breeze. Well done on this location Chop. read more

On the 14th of this month, I chose CHOP Steakhouse and Seafood for our Friday night dinner out. The first and last time I was here was with a group of 10, we sat at a large round table and I recall having had a nice time, so why not come again? Having made reservations, we were seated quite quickly ....however, getting to our table was the trek. We were taken to another room actually that is in the back of the restaurant. I didn't get too concerned, but the lighting was a bit dark on account of the dark walls and no aesthetics to speak of (unless you count two concave, round mirrors) and then there was the noise level (in our waitress' defense, she did offer to move us, but it was after our meal had started--we were having our appetizers already). In fairness, it wasn't terrible, but if you want a "quiet and romantic" evening here, you had better let them know when you call in for a table. Our appetizers were the "Lobster, Scallop and Gorgonzola Dip" and "Eggplant Appetizer" special. Both were good, I enjoyed the eggplant more and to their credit, it was a very nice, unexpected preparation as it looked like slice of cake :-9 The dip was good, happily, not overwhelming and oily as dips can be. I had the "Stuffed Gorgonzola Filet". It was good, not great.....wrapped in a smoked bacon which I would have preferred to be more cooked (yes, and crisp) versus not. For dessert I had the "Fallen Chocolate Souffle' Cake" which was very good and not heavy at all given that it is prepared with a mascarpone filling ....very good and a nice end to a reasonable meal. Our waitress was quite nice and very attentive....in fact, she was very kind and did make very good suggestions. I tried a cocktail called a "Greyhound"....VERY good and very refreshing, as well the Mojito my companion had was also VERY good and refreshing too. On this note, their bar staff knows how to prepare the drinks they have on the menu (or at least the ones we ordered). This happens to be one of my favourite places to have a steak. I have been here several times and the service has always been great. Servers and bartenders are funny and are great at their jobs. Food has always been so good. I usually order the sirloin and get a cream brûlée for dessert. And let me tell you every time they have delivered on taste. Tonight the bartender was kind and funny and provided exceptional service. Chop has one of my favourite wines from Tin Horn Creek their Cab Franc. Now you can only get it buy they bottle but it is worth every penny ($47 worth). This place is just enjoyable. Great atmosphere and service. This is what keeps me coming back. read more
