Service was a little lacking but we were hungry. The fried items were good - hot and crispy. the sushi rolls were okay, the one topped with shrimp was the best to me and the salad was quite fresh and colorful for being inexpensive. We had to ask for more wasabi (a little dab for three peeps to share?)and like most sushi serving restaurants had to ask for low sodium soy sauce (why is that?). Chopstix at Convoy, San Diego. Will Never Never Never be there again. Their foods are all salty, noodles are too much cooked whose looks never be close to the picture on the menu and salmon on the rolls was not fresh. The worse thing was the restaurant was too dirty. All the tables and even chairs are sticky and unwashed residual ingredients were on the dishes... you name it! They have everything disgusting. Both dishes were yummy and super filling. They really hook it up with the rice! I love rice and I was only able to eat 1/3 of my rice! We also had a crispy sushi roll and a spicy roll, both of which were pretty standard in terms of generic sushi rolls. The prices are also super fair for what you are getting. I just had lunch and ordered the mabo. It was the perfect day to do so, because the mabo is spicy noodle soup. It just seemed to bring more sunshine in the day. Its very popular and I highly recommend it. The place is small and the service is good. 051 / 100 - 2017 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. My co-worker recommended that my husband and I try out Chopstix for their ramen, so when we found ourselves in the area, we took the dive and went for it. We arrived after lunch, so we (thankfully!) missed the rush. I want to warn you guys that like every other place in Convoy, the parking lot for Chopstix is small. Freakishly so. Especially considering that you have to share it with a bunch of other restaurants. Anyway, we managed to get a spot easily enough. Phew! Once we were inside, we were greeted with a dimly lit restaurant and seated in a booth immediately. They handed us the menu and then left to get us our drinks. Since we had been told to try the ramen, we decided to go for it! I ordered the wonton/dumpling chashu tonkotsu ramen with thin noodles. My husband decided to get the premium chashu tonkotsu ramen, also with thin noodles. We looked through the appetizers, but nothing we were really interested in. After our orders went in, it was time to wait. The restaurant was pretty busy and had constant rotation of new customers. There is ample seating, lots of tables and booths, but there's also a ramen bar for people who are looking to eat by themselves. After 10 minutes or so of waiting, our food arrived. Yay! First and foremost: Chopstix gives you plenty of food for what you order and what you pay for. We were excited to have our ramen and immediately dug in. The broth is pretty flavorful and had the right amount of thickness. The noodles weren't as thin as we anticipated, which was another added bonus. I recommend that you let your chashu sit in the broth as long as possible. I tried eating one immediately and it wasn't as soft or tender as the rest were after I let them soak. The only downside (for me) was that the eggs were not runny at all - they were completely hard boiled. :( Boooo. We finished our food in no time, paid our bill, and then left! I do want to note that we believe Chopstix adds milk to their broth to make it thick and creamy. Usually not a huge deal, but we were a little uncomfortable a few hours later because we're both lactose intolerant. LOL. That is definitely not gonna stop us from coming back in the future and trying out different dishes though. Overall it was a great experience and I definitely recommend it! Chopstix definitely provides authentic Japanese food. I will probably be coming back again to try their curry, yakisoba, and udon. :) read more

I stumbled upon this place one night looking for food because there was a long line for everything else. Needless to say, Chopstix will always be a reliable choice for me when everything else requires a long wait. They have a wide variety of Japanese foods to satisfy your cravings: ramen, curry, sushi, soba, katsu, etc. The portions are quite large and at an affordable price too! So far, I've tried their tsukemen dipping ramen, their unagi rolls, and curry rice. I'd say the tsukemen ramen is the most notable out of the three I've tried so far. The dish is very visually appealing as all the components are sorted in a circular dish, and the taste is decent too! Not the best ramen I've ever had, but a very solid choice nonetheless! The curry is actually really good too! The portion size is very generous and the spice is not overwhelming like some other places. As far as the unagi roll goes, it's very cheap so don't expect too much. The taste is kind of drowned out by the eel sauce they put on top of the sushi, but I love unagi anyway so it didn't bother me too much. Overall, this place is a solid choice for a wide variety of Japanese foods. If everything else is full, or if you don't know what you're craving but you know you want Japanese food, give this place a shot! read more

I love Ramen. All kinds of Ramen. It's hard for me to go certain places because I'm not a fan of pork. I don't mind a pork mix broth but just pork meat, yuck. There are many different places in Kearny Mesa that's have great ramen but for some reason this place is good for me. It has some sushi, some basic Chinese food, and a handful of Ramen dishes. The place is clean and people are kind to serve you. The bathroom definitely could use a little better scrubbing but overall I think the place is OK. I seem to always get their shrimp tempura and vegetable spicy ramen. The spice level is awesome & it's got plenty of shredded vegetables and the size is good. It doesn't have your typical broccoli, bok choy, egg, corn, etc. but it's good. You can certainly add those things if you'd like and other Ramen does come with those things. read more

Chopstix is one of the first ramen houses ever come out from San Diego in the 90's way before the ongoing ramen trend. Nowadays, the Hakata style (aka Tonkotsu) has become more popular and seems to be overshadowing Chopstix but for true ramen lovers that grew up with this stuff, the Tokyo style (Shoyu/soy sauce based broth) is the basic style that never gets old is the one I like to get here. Another reason why I come here is the homemade Gyoza dumplings they serve here. It reminds me of the dumpings whenever I would go to a hole in the wall ramen spot in Japan. This is the only place in San Diego that has this. Also, the hiyashi chuka (cold noodles with toppings) is an awesome dish to get here especially in the sunny San Diego weather. read more

I know this place is mostly known for their noodles, but I was really craving curry so I ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry. This dish was very affordable being that it was less than $10. When I first saw the plate they gave me, I was kinda upset that they only gave 3 small chicken cutlets, but actually I ended up not even finishing my meal because of the heavy curry. So the Chicken Katsu Curry dish came with miso soup, a small side salad, and half a plate of rice with 3 chicken katsu cutlets and curry. The curry was really delicious! It not only contained potatoes and tomatoes, but it also contained beef! This was why I became full even though there were 3 small pieces of chicken katsu. Although the chicken katsu was not as tender as I wanted it to be, it was still tasty dipped in the curry. I definitely want to come back to try the Ton Katsu (pork) Curry though. We always get the large beer deal (buy a large beer or lg hot sake at regular price $6.95 and add an appetizer for 99cents). Idk if we came at a weird time or if this is how they do it now but when we ordered the ika katsu today they served 3 pieces cut in half but last time they gave us 4 whole pieces not cut in half. The curry was okay and the mapo tofu was kind of sweet but I think that's normal. We hella overordered last time .. oops lmao . The mixed tempura tasted like normal mixed tempura. Same goes for the Gyoza.the crunchy rolls were eh , tasted like their crunchy bits were really old / stale. Miso soup was eh. I wish their salad dressing was like a gingery dressing but it's okay. We've wanted to try it out because we usually eat out around Convoy and we always pass by it. We came in around 7pm on a Sunday. They weren't too busy. No wait. I ordered some shrimp tempura appetizers, a crunchy roll, and a sansai / mountain vegetable (at least I think thats what it was..) udon with regular broth. Overall my meal was okay. I didn't like the crunchy roll, I'm not sure why it was served cooled. I'm use to it being a warm roll with freshly fried tempura shrimp. I liked the shrimp tempura. The udon soup was okay. I felt like it overpowered everything else in the bowl and was on the salty end. The s/o order a habachi roll and a chicken katsu. He liked the habachi roll a lot, especially the sauce. The chicken katsu was okay. The meat felt a little too over tenderized. My s/o compared it to a chicken finger / nugget. Overall I would come back but it wouldn't be top on my list. read more
