There aren't a lot of great options at Union Station, thought that seems to be changing with the Chipotle next to Chop't and a roti place as well as a few others. Either way, this is one of the weaker chop't locations I've been to. They are skimpy on the toppings. Place never has olives and I feel like that's a pretty basic item to have. Appreciate the guy going to look for me but whoever the manager is needs to step their game up. This place was just closed do to health code violations so you figure they would be on their A game. This is just what I've come to expect from chopt in general, terrible customer service. I really enjoy Chopt salads and I have been anticipating its new location at Union Station. The first day was pretty busy, but there was a man that kept pushing people around. I dont know if he was the owner but he was very rude. He sorta grabbed me and set me in line because I wasn't sure who to go to since it was crowded around the bar area. Anyhow, It was their first day in business so I will let it slide, but I have never wanted to tell someone to chill out so badly. My co workers felt the same way so its not like I was the only one. I felt rushed to place my order, I ended up ordering something I didnt want to get and I was misunderstood when I said I did not want chicken in my salad. I love Chop't. I love it. I plan ahead for days when I'm near a Chop't location. The husband hates it and there are no locations within twenty miles of my house, so this is A Thing. Union Station Chop't let me down. I ordered a salad off the menu, but was given no chance to tell them I wanted some extras (avocado, bacon) added in. When I spoke up to ask for them, I was given extreme attitude and it's not like I wasn't willing to pay for them. I watched the salad being assembled and was surprised/confused when they started dressing it at the end of the assembly line. I'd ordered a salad with maybe five or six ingredients beyond lettuce and protein. However, all that was in my salad was lettuce, chicken, and the avocado I'd asked for. Yes, I was being ripped off, but more than that, I wasn't getting the salad I wanted to eat. I had to practically shout to be heard by the person finishing preparing my salad and fixing it took longer than getting a salad from scratch at the Chinatown location takes. And of course, the attitude. I eventually got back to my desk with my salad and I'm still convinced they didn't get all the ingredients in. Why do salads that I make at home never turn out as AMAZING as the ones at Chop't?! This is the only location that I have ever tried of this awesome chain due in large part to the proximity to my job. I really have never had a salad better than the ones I get from Chop't...which justifies the $10-$12 that I spend on their salads. My go to is the Santa Fe salad, but I have tried (and loved) many of the other varieties that they have. Service is fast at this location..sometimes when I don't feel like waiting (or know what I want) I will order online which is very convenient! One bad apple can ruin the pie. It is with great sadness that I write this review. I really hate giving anything less than a three. I normally wait a few days before writing, it give me some time to think a little more clearly especially after a bad experience! First I would like to say the job market is very competitive these days, when you deal with the public know that your attitude can make or brake the whole experience. If you are having a bad day that can be reflective in the way you deliver service. In today's economy we all need to help each other. Ok let's get to the point of my frustration, I loved this place.The experience was good until I tried to pay using a credit card and money. Monique said,"You can only use one type of payment. Not that it should matters, but I had two payment methods because I was paying for two different orders. I work near Union station, so we come to Chop't a lot (we use to). Some times I pick up six salads and pay with more than one method (cash and credit). So when Monique said, "we only except one payment method per transaction (with roll of the eyes)", I was surprised and a little confused. I said,"really I never knew that? We've never been told that." I think the dialogue was a little too much for Mo'Nique to handle because at that point she proceeded to say it again and very loudly. I was about to tell her to keep the salads, but I gave her the card she rang up the transaction and slammed the receipt down. I said have a good day she rolled her eyes again!, and yelled next. I know they move at a very fast pace which I love that's why I go there so much that's why my co-workers go there so much, we can get in and out in a reasonable amount of time. When Monique slammed the receipt down and yelled next when I was saying have a good day to her, at that point I had had enough! Now mind you Monique I'm sure is a young woman that has not been in the business world that long, and maybe she does not know the importance of politeness when it comes to customer service. I don't think she realizes how competitive the job market is and how companies Pride their selves on customer service. Now mind you ,if a customer is nasty to you I don't think you should take it. If someone has question I think they have the right to ask a question and you as an employee has the right to respond with an answer in a civilized manner. I think if you don't have an answer or if you don't have the training that you should for the task at hand you should always call the manager. Now I don't know if Monique just didn't know how to do the transaction? I don't know if the pace on the serving line is too much for her? Maybe she's new and needs more training. I've never had that type of service at chop't! with so many other places in Union Station to get a salad matter of fact right next door right around the corner from chop't no matter where I go I get good service. If Monique is reading this, I didn't deserve to be treated like you treated me my coworker wanted to get our money back and leave the salads, but I didn't think that was necessary. When I asked her to speak to the manager she pointed to the back so I headed to the back to wait. Mr. Juan. was very nice and seem to be very understanding, and he said that he would talk to her. I asked him was it okay to pay with money and a credit card and he said sure. He said he would talk to her. Normally my salad comes to about $10 this time my salad alone was $14 my co-workers salad was over 10 the total bill came to about $27. Believe me I'm not complaining about the cost but when you pay $14 for a salad you should not be faced with attitude when paying. Now I must say even if I paid $2 for a salad I wouldn't expect attitude especially when I'm just asking a question. If chop't said you can't pay with two different forms of payment that would be fine however that's not what chop't said that is what Monique said. Anyway the salad was wonderful as usual. The woman that took the order the man that tossed the salad and chopped it were nice as usual. The worst part of the experience was when I encountered Monique with the rolling of the eye and the inpatient attitude. It could have been five stars. At least this will not change the overall rating. Salad, and lots of it! Finally, the world is catching on to my dining preferences! I was really pleased to find Chop't at Union Station. I'd never heard of the chain before, and I'm thrilled to hear there are more around the area. I created my "own" salad with romaine lettuce, some veggies (I think I got cucumber, green pepper, peas, tomato), and chicken. They chopped it up into tiny bits, though maybe a bit too tiny for my taste. I was worried it was going to become a purée! I know some don't like to chew too much, but I do enjoy the process of chewing my salad :-) I also liked the container the salad came in and the generous amount of food that could fit into it. Luckily we were there when there wasn't a line (it was an early dinner after arriving back in DC after a bus trip from NYC). I would say Chop't is a bit pricey for a salad--I would normally just buy my own salad from the grocery store and eat at home--but it's good to know this option is out there when I do eat out. I walked by Chop't in Chinatown Friday and the line was literally out the door and down the street...I thought this place must be fantastic. I met a friend for dinner at Union Station and suggested Chop't. Because I make great salads and dressings at home, I have an aversion to spending $8+ on lettuce and toppings but I will indulge in the occasional Signature Salad at COSI's. Chop't put me in mind of SaladWorks (which I tend to avoid), however there were so many choices that I was totally overwhelmed and it took me quite a bit of time to figure out what to order and not blow the bank. I did a kale and spinach combo with beets, broccoli, tomatoes, jalapeños and topped it with the chili lime dressing. I chose from the free toppings, the things I really wanted we're $2 each...thanks, but no. I had no idea they were going to chop it until they asked if it was chopped enough...it certainly was...almost shredded...I thought they were tossing it...silly me, it's called Chop't not Toss't. It came with a piece of doughy pita like bread and I was on my way for $6. Would I eat here again, sure...would I wait in line for 30 minutes, absolutely not. read more

I like alternatives now and then. When I was told about a Chop't, I was hesitant. Salad+wrap+spicy food? I mean, it's not the first thing I'd think of. But you only live once, and I like to say that I'm willing to try new things. I also know I need more leafy greens in my diet. So when I asked for a Monterey, and then wanted spinach to replace the lettuce, they didn't even blink. If I felt like experimenting, I could also add some raisins, but that will be for another day. There are many ways to have a salad or wrap (wraps are cheaper), and you can change the dressing (tex-mex ranch is my preference). Added bonus: they process lines faster than Chipotle...or they have the 9+ times I've been there. Go try it out! read more

I had heard of Chop't before and needed a quick lunch in the middle of a work conference at a hotel nearby. I was craving something fresh, and this place sounded like the place to do it. Surprisingly, it was delicious! The salad and ingredients tasted extremely fresh. I had never been there before, so I wasn't really sure how the system worked. It was during lunch, so I went with the Vegan Mexican salad with the mexican dressing. It was very good and hit the spot. The reason for four instead of five stars was something that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. As I mentioned, I wasn't sure how the system worked nor did I know of my options. The guy chopping my salad asked me which dressing I wanted, and he sarcastically said that I should go with the mexican. I wasn't aware that was an option, but he also added a laugh at the end, making me a feel a bit self-conscious. After my less than stellar experience at this location, I finally had an opportunity to go back and I must say that they definitely took my previous comments to heart, which resulted in a much better experience! Following my last experience, Chop't customer service reached out to me and even went so far as to send me a handwritten note and some coupons. If that is not amazing follow-up customer service, I don't know what is? I went back to this location because I wanted to give it a second try and to use the $10 birthday credit they deposited into my account for using the Chop't Level Up account. Despite a long line (almost out the door), the line moved quickly and there was a Chop't staff member directing customers to the next open station, which was extremely beneficial and helped keep the line moving. The staff were much friendlier this time and easier to understand. Also, my salad was chopped much better this time which is important because I got the salad wrap sandwich. I got romaine lettuce with carrots, cheddar cheese, apples, and pita chips. I tried just the fresh squeezed lemon juice instead of getting any salad dressing and it was a light and perfectly refreshing salad wrap sandwich to eat during the midst of all this hot and humid DC weather! I've been to Chopt twice since it's located very close to my office. Location: Conveniently located in the heart of Union Station. Restaurant: (Pro's) Brightly-lit, menu's are helpfully offered at the entrance so you can peruse choices as you wait in line (Con's) Limited seating. Food: This is where the three stars come in. I've tried two salads: the Tandoori chicken salad (with the Spa yogurt-tahini dressing) and another that I made my own (spinach, veggies, chicken with Spa balsamic vinaigraite dressing) and both times I've come away unimpressed. My biggest complaint? They give you a lot of lettuce with comparitively fewer toppings so you end up chomping on a lot of leaves. I'm a huge fan of Sweet Greens, and Chopt has me appreciating SG even more since they (SF) provides a nice mix of lettuce and toppingsso you don't feel like you're searching through a pile of lettuce to get at a tiny piece of bell pepper. It's not that they skimp on toppings-- it's just that they give you SO MUCH lettuce--it's just unnecessary and takes away from the experience. Unfortunately, the tandoori chicken was dry, and the yogurt-tahini dressing was bland (it needed salt), however, I did enjoy the Spa balsamic vinaigraite I love that there's a healthy salad place near my work, but I feel that for ~$9.00 a salad, it's just too much money to pay for what I get in return. Yet, Chop't does this routinely, often with incredible creativity and speed - particularly at this location during the bustling Union Station lunchtime. Chop't provides a number of original salads, you can create your own, or the third option is a list of seasonal offerings that always bring something original. There's literally no way to get tired of Chop't unless your tired of salad in general, and I should know: I've visited this location alone about 50 times over the past nine months. It's been noted that you can easily turn your salad into a higher fat, higher calorie proposition - and of course you can do this with any salad - but anyone with an eye toward weight control will tell you it's all about avoiding carbs, and a great salad will leave you wanting another, just not now if the portion is sized right. Chop't accomplishes this with aplomb. You will not go hungry and you can easily get loaded on 400 calories including chicken if you choose salads like the excellent Mexican Caesar (I've eaten this salad alone probably 25 times). And have them leave off those tortilla strips if you have a zero carb tolerance policy in place. This place is GREAT! I am a salad connoisseur (okay....snob) and I loved that there is an option to build your own with whatever you want. You can make your own with a base of one of four options, and you get four ingredients included at no extra charge (some cost extra). I was a little surprised at the ingredients that were included (hearts of palm! Charred onions!) and those that were extra (radishes!?!). I made a salad of mixed greens with: charred onions, steamed broccoli, radishes, hearts of palm, corn, tomatoes, fresh jalapenos (YES!!), and a couple other things. It was a little pricey, but salads usually are, and I'm willing to pay for fresh ingredients. The one thing I'd caution is over-loading the salad. It was also rude b/c I went inside Chop't and asked "are you still open." And the lady behind the counter said "Yes." But when I ordered the Chicken Tinga, the man behind the counter said something to the woman...and then the woman proceeded to tell me they're not open and that the chicken is no good. I used to love Chop't until they robbed me for ordering avocado in my salad. The worst part was that there was not a single piece of avocado in my salad after I was overcharged $3 for it (thats a 40% upcharge!)! I had ordered a "Create your own" salad. It included 4 toppings so I ordered 3 regular toppings and a premium (avocado $1.99). After looking at my receipt I was charged for having 1 extra topping (0.99) PLUS avocado. In total I should have had 5 toppings for what I was charged but after eating my salad I only had 3 toppings. I'm not sure what the hell happened but they ring you up so fast that I think they just press any button to charge you more and then accidentally have all the premium toppings fall off your salad so it never makes it to your bowl. Looks like I'll be going elsewhere for my meals. I'm not a fan of getting ripped off by getting charged for things that aren't in my salad. read more

Chop't itself is a very good option for a filling salad. This location has some problems. My main concern is that the men that make your salad for you are not familiar with the menu of curated creations. If you want something on the menu make sure that you keep an eagle eye on the person preparing it because 9 times out of 10 they'll leave something out. Today after a false start (they put something odd in and noticed the mistake), I was given some sort of odd lettuce combo that was not romaine. A huge disappointment as I think it included kale. Not my thing and not what was on the menu for the salad that I ordered. They also tend to forget to ask if you'd like bread with your salad or not. If you want it make sure that you mention it. Will I still go here? Maybe, if I really crave salad and I'm feeling patient. Just give your employees a better education on the menu please. Maybe have a cheat sheet. I am unsure what it is about this location and mobile ordering. I hate lines, so I mobile order for pickup. At this location WAIT IN THE LINE! In the line you get everything correct and copious amounts on the add ins. My mobile order is NEVER.RIGHT. I order the santa fe, every time. The main reason I go to this one is the avocado. In house, you get a half of an avocado. In a mobile order...no avocado, never avocado. Even with my comment in my photo...actually it won't let me attach my photo, so it says "The last 3 times I have ordered this, there hasn't been any avocado, can someone please make sure it makes it in?? The staff at the Union Station Chopt (Washington DC) was awful! I had walked there for one of the delicious salads I had enjoyed at another Chopt (on 7th st. nw,). But these three guys were so snotty and socially inept that I had to escape two doors down to Chipotle, where the salads are also good and the service is so much better.
