The line was very long at 12:45pm today, Monday, but moved quickly. There are plenty of seats inside and most people took their food to go. I ordered one of their new Mediterranean warm bowls with quinoa, chicken, cabbage, tahini, feta, spicy peppers, and cucumber and tomato salad. It was wholly unsatisfactory. The chicken was old and unflavorful, not juicy or fresh. The cabbage was raw and dry and just not appealing, and I normally love cabbage! There was far too much feta. My eyes grew wide when I saw the assembler put an entire fistful in. He forgot to put in the crispy chickpeas, and that is my favorite ingredient! What I particularly like is their ingenious system of mixing all the ingredients together. After you choose the ingredients you want, they chop and mix it so that every inch has dressing and you get toppings in every bite. That's a great idea. The ranch dressing is flavorful and the lettuce was nice and fresh. My only complaints were that the peppers were a bit too hot (I like hot peppers, but any bite with one overwhelmed all the other ingredients) and the bread that comes with the salad could use some butter or olive oil. My floating day & ended up here for lunch. We walked in around 12:15pm, & due to the area & lunch time, it was crowded. Yet the employees in their designated assembly positions kept their flow going perfectly. Rome, was my Guy, who was very attentive to my Vegan order. He swapped out the cutting boards, utensils & of course his gloves. We had a quick ruffage love affair while he prepared my specialized bowl of greenery & goodies: Spinach/Kale, avocado, green apples, cucumbers,tomatoes, red peppers, falafel crumbles. All tossed with a combo of Mexican Goddess & Sweet Smoky Chipotle Vinaigrette dressings, delicious! Per usual, there's enough to save for a later savor, if you don't want soggy greens, get the dressing(s) on the side. I'd never been to this place before, but for my first meal in DC, I thought I would go healthier so I didn't have to feel too guilty about indulging later. I ordered the Smoky Santa Cruz salad with grilled chicken, avocado, corn, scallions, tri-color quinoa, black beans, kale, broccoleaf & purple cabbage. The two dressings were their Sweet n Smoky vinaigrette, which is actually pretty spicy, and the Mexican goddess, which had avocado, cilantro, and jalapeno. I like that they chop the salads on the board before serving it in the plastic bowl. I asked for some extra lime wedges and they even gave me an extra piece of bread, which I definitely needed to counter the heat. The ingredients were fresh and the salad was rather filling. Also, I give them props for their variety of lemonades and iced teas. The mint lemonade was especially enjoyable. I wish they had a location in coastal Virginia, but I'll probably have another salad her the next time I'm in the DC area. read more

Two days in a row I saw people in this place no mask, talking over the counter, no social distancing. It's absolutely unacceptable. Their customer care is a class act! Thank you! A co worker of mine had a salad from here yesterday and it looked appetizing. So today I decided to order one and have it delivered to the office. I ordered the kebab Cobb with lemon tahini dressing. I customized the salad to add(and paid for) falafel. There was not one piece of falafel to be found. The salad itself was good, and the delivery was actually early, but I was really looking forward to the falafel. The orders need to be checked and rechecked before leaving the store. read more

Wow...I loved this place. I wish we had something like this in the Detroit area. We were in DC for an event on the Mall and it was so stinkin hot we needed to find a cool place to sit down and eat. In the heat none of us wanted anything too heavy so this spot was prefect. Because of the event happening the place was extra crowded and the line moved very slow. It's still a 5 star joint in my books simply because everything was so fresh and delicious, and once you get to the front of the line you understand why it was so slow because it's all made to order. I had the vegan mexican salad and then added some shrimp for protein (I know, I know, sorry to all you vegans). It was seriously one very tasty salad. Loved the concept of 'chopped' salad so much I came home and bought one of those handy chopping tools! Would definitely visit here again on my next trip to DC. read more

I love Chop't, the salads are perfection, the topping choices are fresh and endless, and I absolutely love the spa dressings. Since Chop't is a chain, the rating is more about the store itself. If you haven't been to a Chop't, then you truly need to - and this location is a great one to try for a first. This store is smack dab in government personnel central, which means M-F from 11:45AM-12:45PM it is a mad house. This past visit there were 35 people in front of me. Fortunately, the manager knows the importance of time and the limited lunch break most have and he has perfected a system that makes a 35 person line take less than 10 min. And considering not everyone buys a pre-established salad (oh, Lord I was behind one of those asking the difference between romaine lettuce and the mesclun blend...and taking a solid minute to decide ON JUST THE LETTUCE), the 10 minute wait was pretty damn fast. The people working there are friendly and helpful - and to have been chopping damn salads at the request of picky people is quite the feat in my opinion. I really appreciate the nice personality they give as they hand you your $10+ salad... Overall, the food is typical of all Chop't, but the store is one of the better I have been to. read more

(2.5 stars) I was not very impressed with the salad I got from here. I got the sweet & smoky chipotle dressing which only tastes pretty good but for some reason is really addicting. Although I enjoyed my salad, I much prefer a salad from Sweetgreen instead for a few reasons: First, it is shocking how difficult it is to find the option for making your own salad. It's like they try to make it a secret so you have to order one of their signature salads. I honestly had to ask someone the details of making your own, i.e how many free toppings are included, because it's not listed anywhere. Second, the serving size for each topping they throw in your salad is minuscule. It may seem like a lot because it is all chopped up but it's actually not, especially in comparison to Sweetgreen. Third, whenever I come into this location, their is such a cacophony of loud noises that it's headache inducing. From the incessant banging of the choppers to the crescendo of loud conversations, it's never really a pleasant experience walking in. OK, so being from CA, I wanted to go to some more unique places that we don't have there, and that are sort of "signature" to the average person in DC. This is one of those places that popped up in my research, and so we decided to go here for lunch after pushing our way through the crowds of people protesting various things in front of the White House. If you've read my profile, or if you've read most of my other reviews, you'll probably notice this is my first review of what you might consider a "healthy" restaurant. In fact, my wife and my sister-in-law were kinda shocked that I chose to go to this place. At the end of the day, I realized that I like salad, just when other people prepare all the ingredients (and sometimes the whole salad) for me. That's what happens at this place; you go to the counter, and order one of their signature salads, or you build-your-own. They have a HUGE list of ingredients, and the pricing is reasonable. Their dressing options are great (and varied), and they do an AMAZING job of mixing the ingredients for even distribution. A few tips - they'll mix dressings for you, so that's good to know; also, as you're building the salad, you're thinking, "how're they going to fit it in that bowl?!" They do. Trust me. Their drink selection is great, too; their blackberry lemonade was awesome. I REALLY want one of these to open in CA; I'd seriously go here all the time. I ordered from seamless and it reset my location to god knows where so when I came to pick up my item, it was nowhere to be found. Excellent food! Interesting concept/spin on the ~build your own salad~ trend. I really like how mixed and edible it makes the salad (nothing's worse than awkwardly shoving a giant leaf of lettuce in your mouth and pretending to be graceful with it). I will say it was kind of chopped to smithereens - I had chips in my salad and they ended up basically being dust. The service was fast and efficient. The payment was fast and all staff were friendly - which was nice considering it was a lunch mob - a time when a lot of stores get less friendly. It's clear that they need to re-think how they handle their online orders as there were about 40 people waiting for their orders. The poor girl at the register was taking the brunt of the customer complaints and I felt so bad for her. She needed more support but it was entirely too busy and management was awful. In an area dominated by chains and lunch counters Chop't is a great place to grab a lunch. The line can be intimidating, but they do an astoundingly efficient job moving people along. I personally have had the Powerhouse Vegetarian salad and the MexiCali Vegan. I highly recommend both, and would strongly encourage the Jalapeno pesto dressing. The $10 price tag stops this from being a daily indulgence, but it is worth it for the occasional go. The sidewalk patio (shared with Starbucks) is also a tempting draw during the months in DC that you can bear to be outside at lunchtime. read more

This location is very busy during lunch time and there are some more interesting options on the same block like the grilled cheese restaurant and Taylor Gourmet. Having said that, if you want something healthy this is a good choice. They do a pretty good job of keeping the line moving while still giving you personal service to change out ingredients and the amount of dressing. I really liked the limited time Peruvian steak salad, very filling and spicy in a good way. Many of the other unique options are this way as well. This place stresses me out! There is time to plan your order while waiting in line by grabbing a menu on the way in. But when you get to a salad station the fixer wants your order FAST. As soon as you say one ingredient he is saying "next" and if you don't say them quickly enough he decides you're done. Argh! So stressful. Anyway, arugula is extra but at least they have it. Half a hard boiled egg is included in the 4 free ingredients so you can, in fact, get some protein if you don't want to spend an extra $3 on 3 bites of meat. The Mexican goddess dressing was too hot for me. I don't know what's in the Asian one (and it's one of the most caloric dressings at 150 cals) but it's yummy. Oh and the "bread" is kind of gross. It's cool how it's flat and it fits inside the top of the salad container, but it's more like a pancake. I'm still not quite sure what a grain bowl entails (aside from the special ones listed on the paper me menu). Maybe someday I'll be brave enough to order one. read more

Alright Chop't, you finally got a dish that won me over. In general I have found that their salads are bland and need salt. I'm not usually one to add salt to my food (pepper maybe, but never salt), but with chop't's salads, I find it necessary. But today I got the Chicken Tinga bowl, and it was delicious. The rice and beans were uneventful on their own, but once mixed in with the chicken and greens -- mmmm! The fresh avocado definitely made the dish for me. Beware that this particular location has long lines. The workers are fast and friendly, but you'll still have to wait to pay for your food. read more

In particular, I have to commend Aminta. No matter the time of day or amount of frenzied activity surrounding her, she is always smiling and friendly. Always. I used to think Sweet Green was the best salad version of Shitpotle (formerly Chipotle) that was until I tried Chop't. I prefer to make my own 1/2 kale 1/2 mixed greens, some other veggies chicken goat cheese and a hard boiled egg. The greens, veggies and proteins are always fresh, the staff is always friendly and attentive. The locations I've been to get extremely crowded and 12PM Mon-Fri is about the worst time to get here. You want to arrive around 1130AM before the long lines. I would also recommend the warm chicken and quinoa bowl as it's a smaller portion but not as pricey as making your own salad bowl.
