    Salad Dressing Variety

New Dine in | Lunch | $20-30 It was my first time eating at Chopt. I was impressed from the moment I walked in. It was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also very clean. Everyone who was handling food wore gloves which I really appreciated. There were at least 12 choices of salad greens. Cauliflower rice was available and there was a variety of warm bowls and wraps. Proteins such as salmon, chicken, tofu & falafel were available and a variety of other proteins like chickpeas, black beans and edamame. There are plenty of delicious fresh veggies to choose from and healthy fats such as avocado. There are many salad dressings to choose from or not. There is cheese toppings and sourdough bread which is a healthier choice along with chips and beverages. I love the fact that they had Saratoga Sparkling Water in the glass bottles. I was really impressed. As a pescatarian I was so happy with my salad choice! David, Lakur, another young man who said he had just started working there and the manager had outstanding customer service and worked well together keeping up with orders, restocking, cleaning, answering my questions and other tasks. They interacted with each other in a kind manner. I would much rather spend a little more for healthier food if I choose to eat out. I will definitely go back even though it is almost thirty minutes away. I don't mind spending my money at an establishment who values good food and customer service. Thank you for taking time to answer questions with enthusiasm and kindness. Job well done! Very tiny classic cobb wrap
    Laura C.

We got the craft your own bowl and the classic cobb wrap. Both were extremely mediocre and the dressing was the best part. My partner got the classic cobb wrap which comes with bacon, avocado, romaine, and chicken, and he removed the tomatoes, blue cheese, and egg and added feta cheese instead. For dressing he had the smoky bacon russian. He said the wrap was mostly lettuce, they completely forgot the avocado, and the tortilla was chewy. There was also almost no chicken. He loved the dressing though. I got the craft your own warm bowl. The price didnt include meat so i had to pay extra for that, and it only included four toppings. I got mine with warm grains, spinach, warm roasted chicken, carrots, crispy wontons, edamame, and roasted almonds. For the dressing I got sesame ginger. I have never eaten a bowl with so little flavor. Even drenched with the sesame ginger sauce (which tasted great on its own), the bowl was severely lacking in flavor, because none of the individual ingredients had any flavor on their own. No spices in the grains, no flavoring on the carrots, not even any spices on the wontons. Also the carrots weren't shredded but chunks, which was just really strange, and not enjoyable to eat. And mine also had so little chicken. The little chicken that I did have was actually great though. The only addition with its own flavor, and perfectly cooked. Not the worst experience we've ever had at a restaurant, but we will definitely not be returning.

"Little boxes on the hillside, There's a green one and a pink one And a blue one and a yellow one" (Pete Seger) When you move down the ordering line at Chopt, you'll see all of those boxes in a rainbow of colors. Black Beans, Eggs and Egg Whites, Carrots, Celery, Chickpeas, Corn, Edamame, Cucumber, Radishes, Grape Tomatoes, Hearts of Palm, Jalapeños, Pickled Red Onions, Purple Beets, Roasted Broccoli, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Scallions, Apples and Olives are just some of the choices you can toss into your salad or grain bowl. Add in your chicken, tofu, bacon, shrimp, grains, cheeses, and dressing choices and you can build quite a feast. Or you can just go for one of their featured bowls. We made our first visit to Chopt yesterday and the place looks great -it's unrecognizable from how it looked when Maximum Beverage was it's prior occupant. We ordered a Chinese Chicken Bowl ($12.99) and a Classic Cobb Salad ($13.99). My Chicken Bowl was outstanding. I ordered it with warm grains as my base (quinoa, faroh, etc.) instead of cauliflower rice, which saved me $2 and 125 calories. On top of the grains was a very generous heaping of warm roasted chicken, carrots, roasted broccoli, pickled red onions, crispy wontons, cabbage & cilantro blend with a Sesame Ginger dressing. It was excellent, and I thought the roasted broccoli was outstanding. I would 1,000% order this again but would ask for no crispy wontons or raw carrots. I don't think they added much to the dish. My wife's Classic Cobb was also a generous portion of grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, egg, blue cheese, grape tomatoes, and romaine served with a buttermilk ranch dressing. Both orders offered a side of bread, and we both accepted the offer. I have to tell ya, the bread was FANTASTIC!! Very fresh and soft bread with a crunchy crust. Improvement Opportunity for Chopt - offer butter or a substitute to go with that bread. The food was great, the place looks great, and service was great, with a shout out to Stephanie who took care of us during our first time here, I'm fairly confident it won't be our last time here.

Yay! I've gone to this place in Fairfield County and New York and have waited a lot time to have them nearby. They have lots of different make your own salads plus some popular choices. I used the app and it's super easy to customize. It was chock full of ingredients. Definitely got my money worth on this one. The chicken soup was also full of flavor and actual chicken. The pickup couldn't be easier. Walked in in 10 minutes and it was ready as promised. Only issue is that parking in that lot is just very busy. Hard to park nearby when you're just doing a pickup.

    Blissful Harvest Bowl
    Lea F.

I've been craving a Harvest salad and thankfully Chopt had exactly what I was looking for. The chicken tasted great and the salad bowl as a whole was just perfect. I ordered this for pick up and it was ready on time. I did decide to stay and eat inside so I could get some shopping done while I'm already out (homegoods next door!). There was plenty of seating on this Saturday afternoon so they didn't mind me choosing to eat in. A lot of the tables seemed dirty though, but nothing a wipe down with a napkin couldn't fix. I didn't really like that the only places to sit are directly facing the register/line. It would definitely have a better vibe here if the dining area was sectioned in some way. I did notice they have outdoor seating, so it'd be great to come here during nice weather.

2nd time - roasted veggie rice bowl - fresher looking but rice was hard
    Rachel B.

Been here 3 times.. I'm not a big salad person but I love a rice and veggie bowl. The first time I went it was pretty good. The last two times I've gone were terrrible. It was lunch time and somehow the rice was hard like it's been sitting out for hours. And the "roasted veggies" this last time were gray, not fresh looking at all. Probably won't be back, but man I was really excited for this place.

Chicken Caesar salad was very bland and dry. Chicken so white and unflavored not even the dressing could save it. Croutons were good though.

Ask the Community - Chopt Creative Salad Co.

What is starting price of salad? I understand that there are 4 toppings (non-protein) that are included, and that some toppings do cost extra. But, what is cost of the bowl of greens?

Thanks for your question, Melissa! A Craft Your Own Salad from our Bishops Corner location with 2 types of greens is currently priced at $11.57 before taxes. As you mentioned, this is before any added protein or specialty Choppings.

Despite yourself a favor and make a reservation now. You will have to wait in line to order, but you will be guaranteed a seat. Come prepared to do your part. There is so much history in this building. On this visit Mom and I ate well, as always and we left full. I had an amazing Bloodroot (vegetarian) burger and mom tried the "chicken" sandwich. Both came with salads, a pickle and kettle chips. We had an amazing last meal and shared a lot of sweet memories. If only they were closer, we would be here everyday.

Founded in 1977, Bloodroot is nearing its 50th anniversary. It also will be commemorating its…read morelegacy. For this historic restaurant that has created its own recipes both for its menu planning and for its business plan, 50 years is an enviable achievement that marks a milestone. Bloodroot began stirring feminism into food during an era when feminist cafés and bookstores sprang up all across North America. Bloodroot has outlasted them all. And through its four vegetarian cookbooks, Bloodroot has contributed to both the feminist and the vegetarian movements beyond Connecticut's borders. The restaurant has defied convention in many ways, even in its location on a dead-end street of a peaceful residential neighborhood. Its secluded site provides a spacious yard, ample parking, and a waterfront view. Picnic tables in the yard and patio foretell of informal and leisurely dining. Indoors, this historic landmark looks like a museum. The olden furniture may have been sourced from antique shops. Tapestries hang from the rafters. Chandeliers simulate candlelight. An entire wall is decorated with dozens of framed black-and-white vintage photos of females, all looking like the faded portraits of your great-grandmas. Bloodroot is all about Mom. The food, "like mother used to make," is akin to grandma's and mom's home cooking. Not haute cuisine, but not crunchy-granola health foods either. To my disappointment, white flour, white sugar, and white rice rule the day. The mostly conventional fare with an ethnic flair simply omits the meat. Until ten years ago, Bloodroot was stuck in the last century, still clinging to cow's milk products on its menu, thereby supporting a dairy industry that cruelly exploits the females of the species. This feminist collective's transition into veganism was long overdue. I have dined at Bloodroot over thirty times in the past 40-years, during which the building and décor have little changed. Historic indeed. Its menu, however, changes both seasonally and almost daily depending upon what produce is available. On some occasions, I have been treated to memorable meals that rival even the most expensive vegan restaurants of Manhattan. But sometimes the food did not rise above the level of my own home cooking, so I was better off staying home. You just need to choose wisely. One change in décor has occurred in its adjoining bookstore. In the age of Amazon, it has morphed into more of a reading library with comfy couches that encourage you to browse through the books. On one table and one shelf, some used books, mostly pertaining to the subjects of feminism or vegetarianism, can indeed be purchased, but that selection is small compared to the other shelves crowded with books intended only for perusal. While the three earlier Bloodroot cookbooks are out of print, its current volume is in print and so offered for sale. Another change. In the past, you were usually greeted by Selma Miriam, who cofounded Bloodroot with her business and life partner, Noel Furie. But Selma won't be greeting us anymore. She died last February at age 89. Tributes and obits filled Connecticut news media, and she was accorded a lengthy obituary in The New York Times. I would be remiss if not sharing an ill-fated personal anecdote. Under the guise of required membership to some obscure historical society, this feminist collective used to reserve one night a week for admission to women only. On one such members-only night in 1988, a luminary of the animal rights movement and I had arrived right after broadcasting his animal rights talk show on WPKN-FM on which we announced we were heading to Bloodroot right after the show, essentially promoting the restaurant on the noncommercial radio station. Selma knew us both, but cordially turned us away. Despite our begging, she refused to serve us even outside and out of sight. I felt like a Black in Jim Crow South denied a seat at the lunch counter. While I don't recall the woman after whom the historical society was named, it should have been called, The Jim Crow Historical Society. Presently filling roles both at the front and the back of the house, Noel (in my photo, depicted standing) is one busy woman. And Bloodroot is beginning a new chapter in its CookBook of Life. In case you're wondering about the meaning of its sanguinary name that may seem contradictory for a vegetarian restaurant, the bloodroot is a wildflower native to New England whose roots sprout up all around it with flowering shoots. But this iconic Bloodroot in Bridgeport stands alone.
