The only bad thing about this place is that it's not open later! I went here one time with some coworkers when we were on a break for lunch in the area, and I think about it often! I've driven by the Cove Deli a quadrillion times and never even noticed it. Around 8:30 am, I used the "open now" filter and then Yelp-searched restaurants for my "current location". Cove Deli was the only place that I hadn't already tried that I would try. Selection made. Cove Deli is located in what could be a charming grey multi-level residence towards the far north side of the Silas Deane in Wethersfield. It's sign is grey/blue and looks like it would be obscured by the shade for some of the day. Guess that's why I never noticed. They serve things such as breakfast sandwiches, coffee, burgers, salads, lunch sandwiches and prepared meals for home consumption. The inside was well-cared for and decorated in a manner fitting the nice exterior of the building. I would be comfortable eating there, although I'm still mostly in takeout mode. I ordered something I usually only order in Manhattan - an everything bagel with lox, red onion, tomato, capers and cream cheese. Cove Deli promptly answered my call, and my order, which Cove Deli calls "Lox on a Bagel", was ready when I arrived about 10 minutes later. Service was friendly. The "Lox on a Bagel" was decent, but is a couple of steps down from the best New York places that I've tried. The ingredients were all fine, but there were no real standouts. What a great local deli in Wethersfield! I've been told how good this little shop is for a while and so glad I stopped in for lunch. If anyone knows me, they know I'm sucker for a GOOD deli sandwich and that's exactly what you'll get here. I happily enjoyed the Keeney Club which namesake is a homage to the town of Wethersfield! It came piled with house-roasted deli turkey, lettuce, tomato, bacon, avocado and garlic mayo atop thick toasted bread. WOW the garlic mayo absolutely blew me away. Definitely the star of that sandwich, along with that house turkey! The hubbs got the Angry Chicken which he was obsessed with. Homemade breaded chicken, cayenne mayo, hot sauce, lettuce, tomato, cheddar, and topped with hot pepper relish on a hard roll. From looking at the menu, I could have bet the deed to our house that he would choose that sandwich LOL The only downside is it's a little pricey for the amount of food. $12 for a sandwich and a small side. Ordered a chicken Caesar wrap, angry chicken sandwich, and corned beef cabbage soup. My wife enjoyed her wrap and I really enjoyed the sandwich. What an excellent spot for lunch. Not much to say other than the fact this place really makes you feel like you're in one's home. Well I mean it looks like a house from the outside. Everybody was helpful, friendly and informative especially the lady who took my order. I was able to get my basic chicken salad on gluten-free bread w/french fries and absolutely no issues at all. The sandwhich had excellent structure, it was litterally picture perfect. The chicken salad was really good. Tasty, not mushy. French Fries were good. Really the only thing that lacked a little as some of them were on the very soft side. No biggie. Just be careful as when they're soft they could get super oily and greasy (etc.) Other than that, it's cheap, they have options, the food is good quality and they make you feel at home. read more

Having studied th on line menu on several occasions, I've always come away feeling curious, but not overly so. Sure, the food sounded good; but, was it good enough to bypass the tried and true? Well, this was the day to find out. I arrived just before noon, and found the small dining area empty. In fairness, these days that's not a good indicator of any establishments popularity, unless the place is packed, which would really be saying something. On the way in, I did note a delivery driver with arms full of orders headed out to the truck. A very good sign, indeed. The staff seemed quite busy; but, this did not affect their attentiveness. I was cheerfully greated; and my order was promptly taken. Start to finish, I was there no more than ten minutes. Not bad, considering I didn't call in ahead. I know, "get to the food already". Ok, so, I ordered "The Angry Chicken" wrap. The obviously fresh, breaded, white meat chicken was plentiful; and, it provided a periodic, but not consistent, crispiness. This may have been due, in part, to the overwhelming taste of pepper. I'm not saying it was too hot or too spicy; in fact, I would say it was just right. The problem was, that, by and large, thats all I could taste. There were hints of cheddar cheese, now and again, but not nearly enough to speak of. The tomato-basil wrap good sized, and filled with other ingredients, such as romaine lettuce and tomato; but again, I had to strain to notice. Do you like ground beef? I mean, do you really, really, like groun beef? Then, try the seemingly mis-named"chili". What I got was a cup of mildly spicy ground beef, (enough to make, at least, two small patties) and a "you can count them on one hand" number of black beans. All in all I thought it was delicious; but "chili"? Nope. That's not what it was. All of this came was a lightly salted cucumber, that tried to pass for a pickle. Add in the fruit cup, and I put down just over eighteen dollars, for what amounted to an acceptable, but by no mean impressive, meal. read more

Working on trying to dine at some of the local establishments in Wethersfield, I can finally cross The Cove Deli off my list. I had recently tried them at a Taste of Wethersfield event and was looking forward to try something more than the samples they offered at the event. The store itself is quite small so I think that if I were to have gone in the winter it might have been a problem if I went around lunch time but luckily it was later in the afternoon AND the weather was awesome so I was able to sit out side and people watch. The employees were working hard and even at about 2pm they were doing a brisk dine in as well as take out business. Pleasant and polite - the girl that assisted me was helpful in helping me decide on a sandwich. She put the order in, I paid and then sat outside for my order to be brought to me. I ordered the George Washington - roast beef, cheddar, arugula (I subbed for lettuce), apple and horseradish on pumpernickel along with a bag of pretzels and their herbed pasta salad. It was not long before my sandwich was brought out and although I enjoyed it I thought that for $9.50 my sandwich was lacking in its filling. It was good but I was expecting and left wanting more. I understand that quality ingredients cost more, but really all I was asking for was another piece (or 2 of roast beef slices) I loved the herbed pasta salad but again - I was left wanting more. All in all a nice place and I will be back, especially as a place to sit outside and people watch but it will not be a place that I immediately think to go when looking for a place to grab a sandwich. read more

In my last review I meantioned that I'd stop by The Cove Deli again, so I did. A plus is that they are open on Sunday. If you are a CT resident, you're aware of how difficult it is to find anywhere to eat on a Sunday. Half of the state shuts down. So, we visited again. Ordered the Ceaser Chicken wrap and the George Washington roast beef sandwich, fries, and potato salad. What really astounds me is how food with so many ingredients (toppings) can be so void of flavor. The roast beef sandwich was incredibly disappointing. The potato salad had 0 salt..I mean ZERO. The Ceaser wrap was dry. The fries were barely room temperature. And to top this off, our order took way to long. I both sandwiches were cold, so didn't need time to be pressed or warmed. The fries clearly weren't fried fresh, so it boggles my mind how our order took as long as it did. We were the only customers in the restaurant! Every bite, we kept looking at eachother like "anything in that bite?...No?..sigh" I'm all for supporting small, local businesses and I really want to like this place, but it's not happening. Their employees are friendly and the cafe is clean. So, if you love this place, more power to you. read more

I spontaneously came here with my parents one weekend afternoon, right at the start of the lunch rush. I'm so glad we did! The space is tiny, with no more than 10 chairs inside, but the menu is jam packed of creative and delicious sandwich options. The Angry Chicken (breaded chicken breast with cayenne mayo, hot sauce, lettuce, tomato, sharp cheddar, topped with hot pepper relish, on a roll on a wrap) was divine. If you're a little squeamish about spiciness, I suggest ditching the hot sauce and asking them to go light on the cayenne mayo. It'll clear your sinuses right up and tickle your taste buds at the same time. The Keeney Club (turkey, bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato on thick toast with garlic mayo), while it sounds simple or classic, packed a lot of goodness with every bite. 1.) Just to warm you up: After the park I was driving around and saw this place. I dunno, it's been awhile I gave a place 5 stars. Since this was my first time here, I'd like to pay another visit to give it any higher or lower stars. But this was my reasoning for the 4 stars. Read on. 2.) What your eyes may see: This is a nice area. Kind of reminds me of Deep River and Old Saybrook, CT. Kinda has that old Connecticut feel. Inside is kinda like an old deli, a little small and what I would define as Mom and Pop-ish. 3.) Food: I ordered the Rochambeau and a grilled cheese sandwich. You get to pick two sides so I got the tuna macaroni salad and a side of chips. The Rochambeau had baked ham, Brie cheese, tomato, mixed greens, mayo and French dressing. OMG were those two great sandwiches! First off, The Rochambeau's mixed veggies were fresh fresh fresh..........*scratches record with an 1980s hip hop sample*.........FRESH! The croissant was warm, buttery soft and also tasted like it was made that day. The side of pickle was ALSO fresh with the crisp and crunch. 4.) Service: Sweet gal at the front register. Though a small place, they come to your table and serve you. She introduced me to an ever more extensive list of sandwiches! I was amazed! After I was done eating I had to shake her hand and thank her for such a great sandwich that her and her staff made! 5.) Impressions: Why only 4 stars? There wasn't much going for this small spot except for its sandwices and the girl at the front register's warm personality. Perhaps I'm looking for televisions, music, cool decor and something that makes this place unique compared to other deli shops. Tiny, homemade, hard-to-find, creative, friendly...all the adjectives that make up one serious sandwich shop. In all honesty, I never find myself in that area of town. Or state. When i'm in CT I usually meander around Hartford and points north, but my very special Saturday came with a trip to the DMV that promised to commandeer an indefinite number of hours from my day. After getting a ticket indicating I was behind more than 200 people...I left the DMV and drove around looking for a DD to grab a cup of coffee and zone out. I didn't find a DD, but I drove by this place and it intrigued me - so much so that I whipped out my pocket Yelp and discovered it was a hidden gem emitting tremendous amounts of good food vibes. (Yeah, thats a thing.) Walked in, super nice people, super small place, and it smelled amazing. I was instantly hungry. I got an Angry Chicken with two sides (potato salad and fruit) and I killed it. The wrap had the perfect amount of spice, and the potato salad (featuring chunky potatoes and a sweet amount of dill, among other ingredients) was amazing enough to have on its own. 1 vat of potato salad to go, please. This is one of those places where i'm confident that I don't have to scroll through the menu to get an idea of what is good and what isn't...if the ingredients sound good, then you will enjoy what you order. If not, just don't get it. The owner was great - and was definitely happy that I found the place and came in from Yelp. I implore you, people of Wethersfield and surrounding areas...do not let a trip to the DMV be your only reason for coming here. In fact, I am lucky enough to have to return to the very same DMV to process the very same transaction from last week (long story about @#$% paperwork with the wrong date on it) and while my goal is to get there early to beat the line, my other goal is to get there early so I can enjoy what promises to be an off-the-wall breakfast at The Cove. I went to the Cove Deli for the first time, and got the Three Squared sandwich. It comes with a choice of side so I chose the small fry (comes in a styrofoam cup). The Three Squared sandwich was very good, with the breaded chicken being super moist and robust paired with some arugula and cajun mayo. It was a really good sandwich, but I really cannot justify the price. That, with a side, cost me $16. And the sandwich was not a generous size, probably around 6 inches or so. I really liked the sandwich and the fries were just okay, but for that price, you can go to another deli with a more substantial portion size that's a couple dollars cheaper. read more

Cute deli on Silas Deane Hwy in Wethersfield! The staff were all really friendly and the place looked super clean. I went during the typical lunchtime; it was not busy at all but that is no reflection on the food, in my opinion. I got a chicken caesar wrap. It had huge chunks of grilled chicken and it was dressed to my liking. I would order this again just by the chicken portion alone. I got a full wrap and it was delicious! I got a pasta salad on the side, which was just ok but I loved the addition of sundried tomatoes...Yum! Overall, I would absolutely recommend this place for lunch. read more

This is probably one of my favorite Deli's around. I consider it gourmet deli. They recently moved from Old Wethersfield to a bigger place on Silas Deane Hwy. I do appreciate the more space inside and I understand the move but on the downside we lost the outdoor seating area which was my favorite thing about The Cove Deli. There was nothing better than sitting outside in scenic Old Wethersfield on a nice sunny spring, summer or fall day while eating a delicious sandwich. read more

This charming little deli was a total hit. We pretty much Tokyo drifted in on our way to The Cove, as we were about to embark on a river boating adventure on empty stomachs. It saved us from tossing each other overboard in hanger. The two sweet girls working were wonderful. We ordered two sandwiches, left, and returned for two more within one minute of exiting, as we thought we might get left on shore without sandwiches for everyone. Both girls were very accommodating and make great recommendations for us. I had The Grandmother, minus the prosciutto and mayo, which made it a less glorified tomato, basil, mozzarella sandwich. It was excellent. Fresh bread, lots of goodness on the inside, and just what I wanted. The boys got some turkey this-and-thats, and they said they were fantastic. Sandwiches come with two sides and pickle. They offer chips, a brownie, cucumber salad, cole slaw, fruit cup, pasta salad, and potato salad for sides. I was a little disappointed that the cucumber salad was a mayo base, but that's just personal preference. I also chose the brownie, which was gooey and delicious. This the part where I tell you how sad a soggy pickle can make me. VERY sad. The pickles were somehow waterlogged and limp spears, that were virtually flavorless. I make my own pickles, so I was extremely disappointed, as it is not difficult to make a yummy pickle. On the same pickle line of thought, I did notice that they use jarred store-bought sandwich slice pickles on the sandwiches. No big deal, just thought you should know. Overall, this is a fantastic little deli. Sandwiches will run you about $10, so know that in advance. In my opinion, it is a fair price for the quality and amount of food they give you. I could eat the Knucklesandwich any day of the week. Sometimes when I am working in New Hampshire I miss their sandwiches. I have only actually been to the location once, they are a little cozy but in good weather you can eat outside. You get two sides with the signature sandwiches, I like the side of fruit the most but the coleslaw and potato salad is decent too. Love this place. So small yet so great. I'd been several times before, but went yesterday for the first time in months. I was crossing my fingers that they still had the wrap I'd consumed and loved on other visits- The Cove Witch. Sure enough, they did! It's a vegetarian wrap full of roasted veggies, hummus, goat cheese, and arugula, all in a spinach wrap. You get to choose two small sides to go with sandwiches, I had the herb pasta salad and the coleslaw. Both delicious, and I feel that the serving size is perfect for those, because you do get two. My friend yesterday had Funky Chicken Salad, and she said it was excellent. For two sandwiches with two sides each, and two drinks, we were at $23. I didn't think this was too high of a price, and I left stuffed. They have a glass case full of cookies and brownies, which looked amazing but was trying to be "good"... I actually love the size of the place, I think it has a warm and fuzzy homemade feel about it, and in the summer there are tables set up outside, so there's a little more space. The ONLY thing I could suggest, is more vegetarian options. I know vegetarian sandwiches can be a little tricky to conjure up, but as of right now there are only two vegetarian sandwich options on the menu. read more

Went here for the first time today and beat the rush. Nice quaint sandwich shop with a dozen tables or so and a broad menu. I had the honey BBQ wrap (#7) and it was very well balanced in flavor with good sized chicken chunks, bacon, baby arugula, tomato and avocado on a tomato basil wrap. Very well balanced and fresh. Small serving sizes at a pretty hefty cost, My belly was still hungry and my money was all lost. Not the best service and a pretty tight space, I've had better sandwiches go into my face. I only ended up here because all the other delis in the area were closed on Sunday afternoon. I wish they had been open... Got a BBQ Chicken Wrap. $9.50 for the sandwich, two sides, and a pickle. The wrap was very tiny. Not much chicken, the barbecue sauce had no tang to it, and very few vegetables. For sides I got the potato salad (that was about one spoonful) and a bag of chips. The pickle was my favorite part of the meal, but it came from a jar; wasn't made in-house or anything. For $9.50 at a deli I expect a meal. I want to be full. I had to go home and cook dinner half an hour later. Also didn't get even a half-smile from either of the girls working there. read more

This place is great! First timer. We had "the wild turkey" and the "funky chicken salad" Tasty sides too and really friendly people. I was waiting outside in the car while my wife was getting her hair done and there was a steady stream of people going in the place. I'm glad we tried it. We will be back. So far very friendly. I'm trying the angry chicken sandwich on a roll. The food was good and the sandwich was sized well. The place is small with limited seating inside or outside. However you are in some of the nicest areas of Whethersfield and it is perfect for grabbing the meal and walking a bit to one of the many parks in the area. For being a small local deli it was a great experience. The food was very good, ordered the Grandmother and it was very flavorful. My girlfriend ordered the Angry Chicken and she was pleased with the level of spiciness. The fries are thicker cut and also are very good. They have homemade pickles and all their side pastas are homemade. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. UPDATE: This place is still great. Got to meet the owner, he is very friendly and very nice. This place is definitely his pride and joy. 10/10 would recommend read more
