What a charming place -- The ambiance is calm and open, which made it easy for us to sit and talk. We order the day scallops and the salmon -- both came with a garden salad. The mustard vinaigrette was tasty. The scallops were okay -- nothing stunning but thankfully not rubbery. The salmon seemed to be enjoyed. Came here for lunch, and got their Salmon Lunch Special and fish chowder. Was welcomed in by the friendly wait staff, and given a table by the window. Food was pretty good, fish was perfectly cooked, and somehow went very well with the BBQ sauce they served it with. Recommend giving this place a try some time. read more

My wife had the broiled fish, i had the fried tempora with onion rings. We were both happy. We got a bowl of chowder to go. I had it for lunch today. A bowl filled me up. Staple of downtown Northampton for years! Always fresh and delicious. I love the special veggie platter which is always available. The fish and chips, their noodle dishes and salads are all great! I first want to say how much I love Paul Elizabeths and have been going for as long as I can remember. I recently went there with a large group, and even though there was a reservation , the hostess said no nobody has come and there wasn't a reservation. I replied "OK I'll look around. Maybe they're here." I walked around the corner and there were some of the people sitting waiting for the rest of the party. So I informed the hostess of this and she seemed very annoyed. When the waitress came over, somebody asked for separate checks for simplicity as it was a large group and would be the most logical for the customer and easy for the waitress so she didn't have to keep track of multiple cards and putting X amount on one card and the amount on the other . As a fellow restaurant industry person for 40+ years. I will be the first to say, "It is kind of a pain in the ass for the waitress however with most computer systems now (and people not carrying cash) it's easily done and is one of the most common requests even with small parties. The waitress acted as if this was a huge imposition rolled her eyes and made a face...very unprofessional. Additionally, any requests or questions or changes like can I add tofu to that just seemed like impositions. She did do the individual checks like requested however when we got the bill, she added 25% gratuity to everybody's check. I realize gratuity is generally added to checks when there are large parties, however not having it posted anywhere on the menu nor having the waitress relay that when we ordered is where the problem was. We had to ask her what this charge was. It was not clear on the bill nor was it properly conveyed prior to the bill. Additionally 25% is a bit steep generally it's 18 to 20% especially with the lack of professionalism, If somebody wants to leave more, they can but dictating to somebody how much tip is not appropriate and tips are based on the quality of service the customer receives. Many people in the party were upset and will not be returning. read more

Incredibly rude hostess. They deliberately skipped over us while we were patiently waiting to get seated in order to take down the names of others instead. They told us it would be a 10 minute wait, but waited for 30 minutes and watched them seat others ahead of us, and these were people who got on their list after we did (and with the same size party). They didn't just accidentally forget us it was deliberate, they said they'd seat us soon but they just continued to ignore. We were not being rude or loud or anything like that. Waits are fine but in this situation we unfortunately felt discriminated against, unexpectedly, and so left to take our business elsewhere. Good luck if you brave this snobby place. read more

Wish Paul and elizabeth delivered to Easthampton but when I go to my daughters, they deliver to Florence, which is part of Northampton sale is our wonderful. My favorite is the chop chop. It has been several years since I've visited Paul & Elizabeth's, so I was happy to get back there yesterday for lunch. The vegan/vegetarian fare is excellent here...but they also have fish dishes (and prepare those very well). We started with soups and salads - I had the fish chowder (dairy free!) and the honey miso dressing on my salad was delicious. Fresh, crispy greens and shredded carrots made for a perfect start. The cup of fish chowder was hearty - even without the dairy. Minestrone soup got a thumbs up. Salmon and cod dishes were cooked perfectly without a trace of fishiness. Brown rice was delicious and just the right texture. They're known for giant whole wheat rolls...so I ordered one of those for good measure ($1). I was hoping it would arrive warm but it didn't. It still tasted good and gave me the carb rush I was looking for. No room for dessert. Service was very nice/friendly - but we received our main lunch dishes before we could make a dent in our soups and salads. Also, when it's busy, it will get noisy. Greeting when arrived very lack lustre, asked for table for two or bar told no bar but full liquor license that's not what I asked about, personally I think u get better service at the bar. Waitress was so unfriendly brought us water and asked "do u know what u want" no hello did not give her name. Never spoke when we gave our order neither when she brought the food. Took away plates and asked "do u want dessert" then she went and got the bill practically threw it on the table, I was not polite when I asked if she had a pen (I was sick of saying please and thank you by know) she said she would bring a pen when she brought it back and rolled her eyes. My girlfriend is the best ever so she took me on a surprise trip up to Northampton, MA to show me one of her favorite places, Magic Wings. PLEASE check that place out if you get a chance, you'll love it. So while we're up here we want to explore the town a little bit, but we have to eat right? So here we are... Atmosphere/Appearance: Set deep inside set the Thornes Marketplace is this very chill, relaxing, homey feeling restaurant. Not much to the outside since it's inside a mall, but the inside was very classy. Dark wood floors, big windows, high ceilings and contemporary chandeliers fill the huge space. It was around 2:00pm so it was fairly quiet inside. Service: Excellent. We had multiple servers that helped us out and they were all super friendly. They made excellent recommendations since I'm not exactly vegetarian (which this place is known for), but wanted a heartier dish. Our waters stayed full and we were very well cared for. Food: For my lunch I went with their Smoked Salmon Wrap which is served with field greens, cucumber, red onion, tomato, and Vermont goat cheese caper spread all in a whole wheat tortilla wrap. It was delicious. Such fresh, raw flavors and not over-salted with a ton of seasonings. Very well done. I added sweet potato fries because, why not? Value: $9.00 for my wrap! Can you believe it?! That's an awesome deal... especially in MASSACHUSETTS where everything likes to be expensive. To add the sweet potato fries was only $1.25 and was well worth it. I really enjoyed myself here for a light lunch on our mini adventure. I can certainly see myself eating her again the next time we're in the area. read more

The only reason I'm giving this place a 3 star review is because while we were eating, a woman who I'm assuming was the manager kept making loud, passive aggressive comments at her staff. We were seated across the room and her comments still interrupted our meal and clearly made her staff uncomfortable. This sort of behavior ruins the mood.
