Casually walked into Chor Bazaar and honestly that's probably the only reason I got a table because they filled up pretty quickly. The interiors aren't over the top, but they're done nicely -- the blown-up street food pictures and the cutlery sculpture/installation thing add a fun touch and set the vibe. My biggest tip: go with friends. This is the kind of place where you want to order a bunch of things and share because a lot of street food is best eaten fresh. I went alone, ended up taking leftovers home (which is fine), but some items just don't hit the same when they're not hot and crispy anymore. You lose those textures that make street food special. Obviously I went for the vada pav, so that was a must-order. It came with the garlic dry chutney, fried chilli, the bun -- everything you expect. My only thing is that Bombay vada pavs usually keep the aloo filling pretty simple, and I felt like this one had something slightly different going on. That said, if you've never had vada pav before, you'll probably love it. I also got the masala chai, and I was pleasantly surprised that it came with a rusk. When you open an Indian restaurant, especially one trying to bring out that culture, you have to understand that many Desis will never drink tea without some kind of biscuit on the side So I appreciated that little detail. The one thing I didn't love (liked not love mind you) was the chole kulche. I usually order things I can't easily make at home, so I was really looking forward to this. The chole itself was good, and honestly I'm happy I can get something like this in NYC, but the kulchas didn't really feel like kulchas to me. They were tasty pieces of leavened bread, but I wouldn't call them kulchas. It was still enjoyable -- just not the Delhi chole kulche experience I was hoping for (which also reminded me why I miss having the real thing in Delhi). Overall, it was a good experience. Being alone definitely limited what I could order because I knew I'd have to take half of it home. The service was good too -- they don't take tips but add a service charge and credit card fee, which honestly comes out to roughly what you'd expect to pay with tipping anyway. I'm sure I'll be back with friends because I definitely want to try more of the menu. Hopefully next time I'll get to sample a lot more of their street food offerings!

Chor bazaar pe hamari chori sach mein hui thi! Do chai aur aik plate chaat kay liye $30 se zyada dena hai kya? I guess that is New York prices these days, but still! Main samajhta hu kyon unhone yeh naam chun liya kyonki yahaan kay aas paas ghumkar aisa lag raha hai ki aap Paharganj mein hain. Chor bazaar kay andar voh 90s gaane baja rahe hain. Decor dekhke kuch chote sheher ke mandap ki yaad aa rahi hai. The sev puri was good - nice and crispy with a good mix of masalas and chutneys. I appreciate that the chai is served with rusk.

Came in for a quick bite. Loved the starter peanuts, pav vada, and pav bhaji. Everything was spiced just right with great flavors.

This place was a big disappointment. The service was extremely slow and at times uncomfortable. The food was underwhelming and unsalted. The decor is nice and they have potential, but right now I wouldn't recommend anyone go to Chor Bazaar. I'm very surprised by all the high reviews, I wonder if they have low quality control standards which is causing the wide variance in experiences. We ordered the vada pav, pav bhaji, and Chole kulcha. The vada pav was soggy and so was the bread for the pav bhaji. The chole and bhaji had good masala but were under salted so it falls flat. They also could have used more lemon wedges but unfortunately it was near impossible to get the server so we weren't able to ask for anything. Due to the poor service, it took an hour to place our full order. After waiting for some time, we got up and asked for someone to take our order. A busser came over and took our order, assuring us that they would let our server know. 20 minutes later our server comes over to take our order again and we explained that we placed our order with someone else already, and she began to argue with us. "That couldn't have happened, she doesn't know how to do it. You don't understand how it works here". After all of this, there is an automatic 18% gratuity applied to all checks, so perhaps they don't care about providing good service or quality control their food since it doesn't impact their tips at all.

3.5 stars - strong smell when you come inside and the place is very well decorated but low lighting, and the dishes are all steel which is nice. The gol guppe order had like 6 and it was just ok especially for the price but the chaat was lovely. Bathrooms have urinals in them which my mom was not a fan of. It had a lot of promise but a little weary of the brick and mortar South Asian meal scene for street cart food. I'm sure it will get better!

UNREAL food!! It's such a treat to be able to eat Indian street food and such a wonderful price. Fantastic options, I wish I could have tried everything because everything looked fanatic. All the food is Desi spice, it's like India where the masala's are done RIGHT. The space was big and had great seating options. I don't catch our waitresses name but she was really sweet. Pani puri - great, the pani was spicy and tangy Vada pav - crispy and fresh Pav bhaji - decent, I wish the bread was a little more cooked Chole kulcha - Chole was well seasoned, kulcha was like a pita but better!

Made lunch reservations but walk-in would've been just fine too. They have booth seating and we were seated in a comfortable spot. Krupa was our server, friendly and welcoming. What we ordered: Pani Puri ($11), Paneer Frankie ($12), Pav Bhaji ($15), Vada Pav ($15), and Chole Kulcha ($16). Felt, the menu was well priced. Vada Pav is spot on. The lasoon chutney can use a little more garlic, but the vada is perfection. Pani puri was good too, and jaljeera hits the spot! Frankie is not comparable to the iconic Tibbs and was a bit roti heavy, and neither does the Pav Bhaji hit Sardar's standards (severley missing the Amul butter aftertaste) - but pretty good. The Kulcha felt a bit too starchy to our liking, but tasty overall. Spice level on the medium side and very kid friendly! Noise levels were on the quieter end, and I wish the lighting was a bit brighther at least during the day service. Service was quick and food arrived within 20-mins of ordering. Will visit again to try a few other dishes. A great place to grab a quick bite/snack.

Chor Bazaar was on my list of Indian chaat restaurants to try in the Big Apple. Yesterday I had lunch here. The vegetarian menu has all the chaat one can enjoy in India. Papdi Chaat was my favorite in Bombay so I ordered it. When the dish was put in front of me I was surprised and happy that the portion was quite large and colorful. One bite and I was thrilled because here, unlike Madras Dosa Co, there was some chili to enhance the flavors of the chole (chickpeas), aloo (potatoes) and other ingredients. Each bite was mouthwatering and I polished the plate clean. The menu is large and surprisingly serves alcohol. After all this is not India Coffee House or Kailash Parbat in Mumbai! Krupa was my server. She was personable and friendly. We spoke in both Hindi and English. Rasmalai was my choice for dessert as the Falooda ice cream did not have vermicell which is essential. The dessert was fairly small and quite tasty. The addition of ground cardamom was slight and more would have enhanced the flavor further. Chor Bazaar is a flea market in Mumbai and pictures of this neighborhood is on the walls. This restaurant is pretty, clean and spacious with booths. Two clean unisex restrooms are in the back. Highly recommended.

Came here with a friend and it's a cute Indian restaurant with comfy seating. The service is nice with kind wait staff but a little slow. I did appreciate not being kicked out and allowed to catch up with my friend. The food was surprising good! The dahi puri was flavorful with the correct proportion of filling. The chole was excellent but kulcha was not good. Honestly I'd come back with a group to try more food!

Amazing experience at this newly opened no-frills Indian vegetarian restaurant! We tried some amazing classics! Dahi puri, samosa chaat, Bombay Frankie, paneer Frankie, puff, chole kulcha , pav bhajji and dabeli (my favorite). They also serve beer wine and cocktails and their lassi is fantastic! Highly recommend trying out this new spot if you want good affordable tasty bites and some great service with amazing Bollywood songs playing in the background P.S. they do not deliver or do take outs so be mindful when ordering.

I had a delightful experience at Chor Bazaar! The food takes you back to India, so if you miss home or are looking to get your friends acquainted with food that reminds you of home- take them here!! First this place is perfect for big groups as there is seating to accommodate bigger groups. Secondly they give free chakna with all drinks you order so if you are looking for a place to go after work this is perfect!! I tried the pani puri, ragda pattice and misal pav, all three were delicious and packed with flavor!! The gulab jamun just melted in my mouth, you have to try it!! Special mention to the warm service I received!! Definitely worth checking out

Absolutely delicious meal!! Chor baazar focuses on Mumbai style street food. It's spicy, delicious, tangy - the perfect bites. The chaat was my favorite, pani puri and Papdi chaat are to dieee for. Vada pav is delicious and chole was divine. I'm excited to try more of this menu. Meenal was our server and she was so lovely! Service is great, very attentive. The menu is fully vegetarian, and loved the ambiance and decor. I will surely be back soon

The energy is right there, hovering, but it never actually lands. It's giving "almost iconic" but not quite--like a party that never fully starts. And that's what gets me. Because this bar could EASILY be that spot. The kind people plan their week around. Where are the themed nights? Where's the drama? The chaos? Give me a reason to come back on a random Wednesday. Do a city-event tie-in, a holiday takeover, literally anything that makes it feel alive instead of just... existing. Because right now it feels like a missed opportunity wearing a cute outfit. BUT--let's talk about the one thing they absolutely did not fumble: the view. The VIEW??? Insane. Genuinely stunning. The kind of view that makes you pause mid-sentence and remember you're in New York and not just spiraling in your own life choices. It's carrying the entire experience on its back, respectfully. So yeah. I'd come back... but mostly for the view and the potential. If they ever decide to actually do something with this space? It could be dangerous (in a good way). Until then, it's vibes... just not fully realized ones.

I also got the foreign forage, "a bourbon smash with a mint zing." It was also a delicious take on a classic. They have several types of cocktails, all broken down by spirit and flavor profile. They also offer a lot of spirits made in New York State. They have cocktails with earthy notes, fruity notes, fancy martinis, and a section boasting limited edition and special spirits, if you're "feeling fancy" and wanna cough up 35 bucks instead of 20 or 25!
