Excellent breakfast and lunch restaurant located on the west side of Bend across the street from Newport Market. Chow offers creative dishes made with whole ingredients. An example of their offerings was the omelette special prepard with adouille sausage, yams, and spinach with a caper hollandaise. Delicious. They have outdoor seating for nicer days and have made the most of a rather small space. I have found the service to be consistently friendly and efficient. Love this spot! read more

I was really excited to try this place as I could see their garden from the street and it looked like the perfect setting for brunch. The ingredients are indeed extremely fresh and sourced either from their garden or locally when possible. I loved the sound of most things on their menu and had a hard time deciding. I did choose a weekend special - a brisket scramble - which might have been a mistake. It was cold and rather tasteless. But others at the table really enjoyed what they ordered. The atmosphere is indeed perfect for a relaxing brunch or meal. The staff was extremely friendly and I got a feel that they loved working there. I understand that they source their coffee locally which is really great. I wasn't crazy about the drip that I had but perhaps if you order an espresso beverage it is of better quality. My main rub (and one star reduction) with Chow is cost. I'm not one to complain about the cost of food if it is really good. But in this case the food was good, not great. And it's definitely not good enough to carry the major price premium that Chow is putting on it. Still, this place is solid as a rock. read more

One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. My friends and I each got different things and I was able to try all of it! Everything was amazing! Their season french toast at the time was a rum custard with fruit - best french toast I've had. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was delicious without making me feel too guilty. All of their ingredients taste really fresh. Plus we got to sit on an outdoor patio with live music playing in the background. What else can you ask for for a perfect breakfast. We loved sitting outside :) great way to enjoy the weather & food. I ordered the: Huevos rancheros. I'm Latina, so of course they aren't going to be the way I make them at home. But, they were still good. Great flavors. The only thing I would've done differently is add crema (sour cream) or at least have the option to get some. Also the beans were a little hard. Nevertheless, still had great flavors. The house potatoes were my favorite!!!!! Very flavorful and crisp! Didn't even use ketchup. I also loved their choices of salsas. I loved them all, including the habanero one. Husband: he got the biscuits & gravy plate with the a side of house potatoes. He stated that it was really good & finished both items!! Overall: it was a great breakfast with a nice waiter :) also- the manager (I think he was) approached us, and asked how everything was going!!!! My husband and I were visiting my dad for the weekend, and decided to stop for breakfast on our way home. We were very happy with our decision to stop here! My husband got eggs, potatoes and toast- the potatoes were crisp and delicious, and the bread is fresh and homemade! I got the Caesar- a sweet corncake topped with perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise sauce, queso fresco and a side of sweet potatoes. SO incredible, I finished it almost immediately! Pros: Food was fresh and delicious. Hollandaise sauce went very well with poached egg and veggies. Hot sauces were diverse and delicious with the food. Green tea was good as well. Cons: Sweet potato fries are a little too soft and my mom was given eggs over easy instead of over hard (no liquid yolk). We waited an hour to be seated in a half-full restaurant. Once we were seated, the waiter would occasionally stop by, 2 or 3 times in total including getting our check. In the middle of service, the waiter grabbed our ketchup, saying "Sorry, we've got a ketchup emergency," without asking us if we were still using it. First let me state we love the food at Chow, it is definitely one of the best spots in Bend. However, our experience on Mother's Day did not reflect the normal service we have received in the past. We were quoted 1 hour wait time which ended up being 2.5+, without a word from staff telling us wait would be nearly 3x longer than expected. Then we were charged more than what was printed on menu (the menu that actually had Easter written on it not Mother's Day ‍) for several of our food items, almost as though the bill had been rounded up to make an even number. We went on a Monday afternoon, based on all the positive reviews, and we're not disappointed. It was the hostess' first day (Kori I think) and she was doing an awesome job. Our server, Jennifer was great as well, she recommended the kombucha cocktail and the veggie Benedict, both of which were absolutely delicious. My husband had the omelette with potatoes that paired well with their house made sauces. We loved the carrot habanero and cilantro lime best. Mimosa was a good ratio of juice: bubbly. I read about Chow in a visitor's guide at our hotel in Bend and yelped it and after reading the reviews, we decided to have breakfast at Chow. The food was incredible and so was the ambience. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable and stressed the freshness of the food being served. I had the scramble of the day, which was fresh shitake mushrooms, garlic, shallots and cream cheese scrambled with eggs. I substituted the cream cheese with cheddar and all the egg dishes came with fresh herb bread and the most delicious homemade berry jam. My husband ordered Eggs a la Med, which is like Eggs Benedict, but the eggs were on polenta with fresh spinach. He opted out of the Hollandaise sauce and also asked for fruit instead of taters. His breakfast was not only beautiful to look at, but exceptionally delicious and flavorful! My daughter's buttermilk pancakes were huge and fluffy and she could only finish one! We sat on the porch in from of Chow and the garden is beautiful; huge sunflowers, flowers and green grass! I highly recommend Chow and will definitely come back when we travel to Bend again! read more
