Inconsiderate. The C&P by my house was closed. I have been ordering through Uber Eats, because it is the only way to enjoy their food. I have always ordered for take out. These folks at this location are careless . Always missing items or condiments I paid for. Although I love C&P, this location is no substitute for the one they closed in Whittier. Good luck getting someone to answer the phone there. I called and called until I hid my number and they finally picked up. I got an apology and an offer for a free meal; but they are missing the point. Their customer service is tainted and needs to improve. They are not Taco Bell, get it together people. Just skip the headache. Whittier misses their beloved C&P, but the people working in Downey are not it. Giving 5 stars cos I love it. I gotta say the quality gone down we got our ribs cold. I order beef ribs and 2/4 were either old and tasteless or maybe just reused bones rubbed in the grease. Something was off and I love Chris and Pitts please check heat of food make plates hot something. It's the last bit of hope of my childhood. I STILL GIVE 5 stars cos I believe even though it was busy and no excuse for my food to be cold. Chris & Pitt's used to have many locations. I think they are down to 3. I can see why. I am giving them 4 stars because I can't do 3.5. Their food is good, it is no longer great and that is sad. I am hoping I was there on a bad day and next time it will be as I remember. The service was super. We were greeted straight away and were seated. Whether they take reservations I don't know, we did not have any. We were put in nice seats and a server was with us pretty fast. She was super nice and took great care of us. The prime rib sandwich was great and we all loved it. The fries were not hot and that really sucked. The mashed potatoes I would think were from a box, I am not sure, but I was not pleased at all. Their pork ribs were great but a tad too much fat. Don't get me wrong, I love some fat on my ribs, makes them tender and extra tasty, but this was just too much. Again, maybe a bad day. Very sad horrible experience I used to frequent Chris and Pitts in Whittier on Washington Boulevard for many years before they closed. Unfortunately, this one was nothing like it. The food was terrible. The ribs were dry, hard, overcooked and no flavor, and that's what chris n Pitts was always about their specialty used to be the ribs, not anymore, and the service was extremely slow, you really need to train your servers to be more attentive pre-bus their tables, suggestive sell and when you see a family with two tiny children, recommend only one dinner to split among the children because the portions were very big instead of wanting to make that extra dollar don't order a margarita. It's all lime juice, very disappointed, especially that my son-in-law took my daughter and I out there for our birthdays. Servers should at least greet their table within 60 seconds even if it's passing by saying I'll be with you in a moment not approach over five minutes later the only plus was the server was very nice. Unfortunately, we will never be back. The ribs are better at Super A maybe those cooks need to teach these cooks how to make soft fall off the bone ribs that are very tasty. read more

I'm guessing an African-American male wearing glasses working the to go window not a hi or hello he said everything's a mess back here. You're gonna have to wait. He rolled his eyes like it was too big of an order. He was extremely disappointed in my order. My bill was $151 and change it's not like it was a cheap order I sat down and was waiting Food delivery drivers like Uber eats and Post mates those drivers came in to pick up orders and he told them I haven't even started those orders you might as well tell them just to cancel. It's gonna be a while, and he was very rude about it. I've never been to a restaurant where the employees are trying to turn away business it was just a very weird experience. He clearly needed help the girls back. there were trying to help him they were very patient, but I don't know. I'd rather go somewhere where I'm treated kindly instead of dealing with that. The girls were very nice but they didn't help me. I also want to add that we've been coming to this location for 50 years. I'm not a first time customer and other times we've had great service but this was a to go order as my parents are senior citizens and my dad wanted barbecue food that day. Being that it was Labor Day, I expected the restaurant to be packed, but it wasn't maybe the to go window was busier than it looked but again I only saw three bags waiting for food to be picked up. The cooks were putting food in the window and after the food sat there a good 10 minutes he said to the cooks hey guy, I have no idea what this is. The cook walked to the window, pulled the ticket mind you the only ticket hanging in the window and handed it to him. It just seems like he treats everybody poorly. I took my husband to this location for Valentine's Day. We went just before the dinner rush so it wasn't crowded at all. I chose Chris and Pitt's because it's always been one of his favorites, and we haven't gone there for quite some time, were both so very disappointed. Everything shrank in size, quality and taste was just not the same anymore. We asked for the spicy barbecue sauce and some was brought to our table in a small Styrofoam cup. I ordered the small salad with grilled chicken and it was the smallest thinnest piece of chicken I've ever seen, it was so dry it was more like chicken jerky. My husband ordered the ribs and chicken plate and his ribs were not tender didn't have that Smoky flavor and were burnt. Even the blue cheese dressing didn't taste the same. When I mentioned the serving size of my chicken to our server, and how there are no longer bottles of barbecue sauce on the table, and the yellow chillies are also brought in small plastic containers, and even the salad was very minimal, all he said was I guess everybody's just trying to save money. We have been going to Chris and Pitt's for many many years and we just scratched it off our list. We will likely never go back again. But I'm sure there are many dedicated Chris and Pitt's fans but we remember when the quality and taste were so much better. Not to mention that the restaurant did not look clean at all the trash was overflowing everywhere, and they weren't that busy that they couldn't find somebody to empty the trash in the restrooms and in the kitchen area. Food was mediocre and the service sucked. The ONLY reason we came to this location is because the one in Bellflower was closed. We will NEVER be back. The server had to keep repeating everything we ordered and still screwed the order up. We've been eating at Chris N Pitt's for well over 40 years and never had such a lousy experience. Let me start by saying that I have eaten at almost all Chris & pitts locations. So I am very familiar with how chris & pitts should taste. I thought it was just me, but my daughter also mentioned how different it tasted it was always our favorite. Our dinners came and I noticed that the breading on the chicken fried steak coating seemed different I don't remember chris & pitts having such a coarse panko coating and the meat was tough and it was full of gristle! Very hard to chew and swallow. The gravy which is also a favorite had no flavor! So much so that I added salt , it used to have this delicious green onion flavor and before you could see green flecks of onion in it,this gravy had none. I won't comment on my husband's dinner or my daughters spaghetti because I didn't taste them, but my husbands food looked old like it was yesterday's food that they just reheated. I'm 70 years old and going to Chris and Pitts has been on my bucket list for years. Before the internet I had no idea they had restaurant's and when I did, Downey was too far to travel for lunch or dinner as I live North of LA. 60 years ago there were only about a half dozen BBQ sauces on the shelf's in grocery stores as to compared to today where they take up half an aisle. For over 50 years my folks only used Chris and Pitts, and as I've grown older I haven't broke from that tradition. So I was lucky enough to get my covid vaccination appointment in Downey, and took the opportunity to have lunch at Chris and Pitts. I had every intent in ordering something with BBQ sauce, but the French Dip caught my eye. To my surprise it without question was and is one of the best I've ever had, and not only that considerably cheaper by about 5 bucks. Most French Dip sandwiches are made up from very thin sliced prime rib, so it's a pleasure when a restaurant actually slices it thick, as it really should be. It was rare, very lean and incredibly tender. So when I have to return for my second vaccine, Chris and Pitts it is, only a few days away. I was looking for the beef ribs I so remember back in the day at the Whittier location prior to that closing. Well, it was lunchtime and the menu had a beef rib, a spare rib and 2 other small ribs with 2 items, I settled on a double salad, which was delicious, can't mess up a salad. The meal was like I remember, loaded with sauce which I had to scrap off most of it but it was still delicious. My guy had the same, but he wanted the blooming onion which was surprisingly delicious, it came with bbq sauce but it would have been better with ranch. The service was good, the place was old and looked the same as in back in the 90's. The Ambience was ok. I liked most of it, but what I didn't care for was that they charge an extra $3. to use your card. It does say cash so much and card another charge. What's happening these days? I've been eating here for over 40 years. It's been a family favorite since I was a little kid and many generations of my family would eat here together. It has a warm and cozy feeling when you walk in with that fancy or pretentious attitude. It's the ONE restaurant that you can know what you want to eat and know that's going to taste exactly like how you remember it from the time before. I don't know any other place like that. Tonight we went to Chris and Pitts to shoot a "Downey Then And Now" video segment. The owner was there so it should be no surprise that the service was phenomenal. What may surprise you is the fact that we were there last month when the owner didn't happen to be there and the service was equally phenomenal. I think they are mind readers. When I thought it was time to refill the drinks, they were there refilling the drinks before I could even finish the thought. I bought the Hawaiian barbecue plate and a side of ribs. Each plate was a meal in its own right. We found a room down ice cream Sundays that were handmade. Normally I would not think of a barbecue place for great ice cream but I will from now on. If you were thinking of going to a chain barbecue, that's one way to get your barbecue fix. If you want bigger helpings and something that tastes at least as good if not better, come to Chris and Pitts for the food and the Downey memories. read more

The prime steak was the worst steak. Golden Corral next door has a better steak. It looked like it was raw. Came to have lunch today. They have a good variety of specials that are reasonably priced. They have a cute little outdoor patio with 8 tables that can accommodate a party of 6 each. There is a mice breeze that keeps the area cool. Food is good. We had the spaghetti, breaded pork chops, the bbq chicken and rib special. They were all pretty good. The breaded pork chops are my daughters favorite here. Service is good as well. We were seated right away in the patio and our server promptly took our drink orders. Our waitress was very friendly. I have one suggestion and that would be to offer refills and check in regularly on their guests. The location is on the corner of two busy streets so it is noisy but I didn't mind.
