Today I tried this little hidden gem in Norwalk. My friend is a regular here and raved about how good it was so I had to give it a try. The menu wasn't overwhelming and the restaurant had good deals for happy hour. I got the chicken plate with double Mac and jalapeños. I would say the food is a fusion between Hawaiian food and Japanese Teriyaki. I was not disappointed at all. We did wait a minute for the food but for good reason. My chicken came grilled to perfection with an amazing char and the both side salads were refreshing and creamy. The plates are about $15+ depending on what you get but the plate comes with enough food to make it worth it. They also carry Coke products here which is always a plus for me. The service from the workers was great and everyone was friendly as soon as we walked through the door. The restaurant was cozy and the ambiance was welcoming and very clean. I can't wait to go back and try more items off the menu! read more

FOOD: I recently visited this place, and my experience was disappointing. I phoned in my pick-up order for a Kalbi plate, but unfortunately, I received something entirely different, and while it did come with 3 small pieces of Kalbi, the rest were just regular beef. The rice and meat were drenched in teriyaki sauce, which, with its overwhelming sweetness, made it difficult to taste the actual flavor of the meat. The salad was fresh, but the sauce didn't elevate the taste as much as I expected. SERVICE: It was a quick and convenient pick-up order process where I paid and left after receiving my order. I only wish I had checked my order before leaving, as it turned out there was a mix-up. AMBIANCE: Small, simple. I ordered the chicken and beef bowl, no rice, all salad, and a Thai tea. Staff was friendly, and it was easy to order. Food is made to order, came out fairly quick, and smelled really good. The chicken terriyaki was very freshly grilled and juicy, got a decent amount. The beef terriyaki was very tasty as well but the portion size was alot smaller. I am always on the look out for ono grinds Hawaiian style. The chicken, beef and kalbi plate didn't disappoint. Absolutely mouth watering with large portions. Tender pieces of kalbi and the chicken was sliced and grilled nicely. This place is not fancy, but it's clean and the cook and server were so friendly. Only 3 tables and stools pulled up on a counter for eating, cozy. Beautiful artwork on the wall too. Prices were great as well. Once I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by the young man at the register. There was a slight wait so I sat down at one of the tables. Everything was tidy and clean....The decor didn't speak to anything specific. I did appreciate, however, that my food was cooked to order so when I received it, it was hot. Onto the food .... Now I'm a huge fan of Beef Bulgogi and this one did not disappoint!!! The macaroni salad was not my favorite and the potato salad was completely bland and lacked texture. With all that being said, I would still go back just for the beef Bulgogi because it was just that good. The beef was seasoned and tender. This is my 3rd time ordering for pick up here and I think I'm not going to do any pick up order again. First was fine, they have everything correct food was good... the order was late though. second was I was missing sauce on the side and it was late again so I tried one last time just now I ordered 15 mins earlier so that it won't be late and i got it in time at least and I want to make sure my sauce is on the side so I told them I want to check it and I looked at it and it was there but I didn't see it right away so I went up and asked if the sauce is on the side so he pointed it to me annoyingly. Then I said oh yeah it's there then I went back at my car and then when I looked at it and the utensils are not there... so I have to go back again and ask for utensils. But the guy at the back seems like really annoyed with me because I asked... to think that there's no else there but me... you won't gain loyal customers that way. In fairness to them their food is good. And their dining area is clean. But on service they suck... Terriyaki places tend to go well regardless of where you get them at. Some places just turns out to be very good and some places just needs a little push to excellence! Found this place on my ride to the Norwalk MetroLink station and decided to give them a try. Only 10-15 mins walk from the Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs MetroLink Train Station, Don's Teriyaki Grill is nicely situated in the Civic Center Plaza among other stores and shopping centers. There is plenty of parking in adjacent parking lot and doesn't seem to be congested even during the peak evening hours after folks are leaving work. Entrance is through a single pulled door glass with reception/ordering/kitchen located at the rear, roughly 9/10 strides away from the door This is a small shop so be prepared to dine in for the few and fortunate or request for a take out. There is only two tables seating up to 4 and two bar-styled wall-tables that can seat up to 5. This is definitely a great location for a quick dine and dash or take away. read more

Very clean and the kid working at the front was really nice and helpful. We drove from long beach to check it out and although i would not drive that far for a bowl if we lived local we would go again . The kalbi was good . The salad was refreshing it had their house made asian vinaigrette and crispy wonton strips . The mashed potatoe was bland and so was the macaroni salad, I don't think this place is a real competitor to other big teriyaki places out there and have no reason to return to Don's. I have a mixed review. They have a very kind cashier. I ordered the chicken plate & they gave me the chicken & beef plate. When I told them that I wanted just chicken. They gave me a side of chicken instead of remaking the plate. When I explained i wanted a new plate since the meat juice has seeped into my rice. The cashier didn't mind, but the cook seemed a little bothered with having to remake the plate. (Not sure if that's Don) He asked for more information on why I wouldn't be able to accept as the chicken on the side. I had to give personal medical information on why for them to understand. Which was in my opinion was uncomfortable & a little embarrassing. Also, none of their business. I didn't feel comfortable eating at the location after all of this so I left & ate in my car. On the bright side the food was good. Just wish that would be enough to change my mind about coming back. Just make sure you double check your order if you eat here. I was charged correctly, but my plate was made incorrectly with a side of discomfort due to everything stated above. read more

The chicken is not dried out the rice isn't over mushy or sticky everything here is top notch and not to mention it's consistent ! Sometimes you go to places and the first time you the service is good or the food might be good but second time around everything starts lacking ? Chicken was tender, veggies were plentiful with a slight crunch, rice was cooked well and fluffy, the masubi was so tasty... a bit of smokiness, so much flavor, unlike any masubi I've tasted before. My bowl was topped with fresh green onions by request, and they included a big ole hot pepper (SCORE)! The food was REALLY flavorful and fresh. I requested brown rice and the restaurant called me to advise that they didn't have anymore and asked me what I'd like instead. I really appreciated that, that's good customer service. Food was packaged well, hot, they followed my request to have all sauces on the side, and did I say the food was DELICIOUS?!
