This is an established restaurant on Whittier Blvd in Pico Rivera just off the 605 fwy. It's better to access the parking lot off Gregg Rd instead of the "main" entrance on Whittier which is easy to miss. Food is reasonably priced and tastes good. Obviously steaks but chicken and seafood are also ok the menu. We did the Sunday brunch for $49 which included bottomless mimosa, champagne, or fruit juices; a starter salad or parfait and a breakfast entree of your choice. I chose the sirloin steak and eggs. Very good value! Our server was excellent! She kept our drinks full and explained everything on the menu! She also went out of her way to meet all the requests from our large group (including our bill splitting request). Ambience is best described as dark. Not spooky or gothic; just no windows and lighting that requires you to use your phones as flashlights. I've become a regular here for multiple reasons: 1) The ambiance can't be beat! Great music, ambient lighting, classic steakhouse vibes that are hard to find these days. 2) The servers! Tiffany always gives quick, friendly, excellent service at the bar and knows how to make a great cocktail. Her knowledge is extensive and varied, and I've never heard her say she doesn't know how to make a drink, no matter what has been presented to her. The salads are always fresh, and dressings are delicious. My personality favorite is mixing a little French dressing with their blue cheese. Their baked potatoes are an absolute must! Got together with some friends and and started off in the bar. The bar area is a bit tight and narrow, but there are plenty of seats. Made our way to the dining room near the old fire pit in the center of the floor. Most of us ordered the prefix filet meal. One defector ordered the salmon. The filet was a generous 10oz cut and this comes with their cheese bread, onion rings, baked potato, salad, and dessert (choice of key lime pie or the chocolate mousse cake). I ordered my rare and it came out perfect between rare and medium rare. The salad was delicious and u get three choices of dressing (blue cheese, thousand island and Russian). The baked potato was huge, took half home along with half my steak. The key lime pie pie was ok, (I prefer watergrill's key lime pie) I did try the chocolate mousse cake and should have chosen that one. The onion rings were lightly battered and tasty. Service moved a bit slow, as the place was pretty busy for a Wednesday night. One minor disappointment that we had was bringing in three bottles of wine and told the corkage fee was $15.95 per bottle. We received the bill and our server charged us $19.95 a bottle. For dessert, I had the key lime pie tart. Cheese breads come with the meal. It was delicious. They are very generous with the bread. They would refill the bread basket as often as you'd like. The baked potato is huge. It is served with butter, sour cream, chives and cheese sauce on the side. You can add as much as you like to suit your taste. The petit filet mignon is small, only 5-oz, but it was very tasty. I asked for medium and it was cooked just right. The key lime pie tart and the chocolate mousse cake were both good. I had a taste of both. Service was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient. The interior of the restaurant is dimly lit. It is rather dark inside. It gives an old fashion 50's vibe. The steaks are usually great but there was inconsistency with all of them this night, and when your bill is about $500 for 2 adults and 4 kids you expect better. We've been eating at Steak N Stein for years! The food is great and in the past years the service has been good. My son celebrated his birthday last night and Matt had the nerve to ask why his tip wasn't $150 dollars! We were shocked at that statement he gave. How rude and unprofessional is that? In general his service from him was bare minimum at that. That has NEVER happened in the past! We brought this situation to management's attention because that did not sit right. Wendy was very understanding and assured me that is not a practice that this company stands for. I really appreciated she called me right away the next day and assured me it wouldn't happen again. First time at this location - I normally go to the San Gabriel location. I was pleasantly surprised to see such an ample waiting area and a very pretty, lit-up water fountain in the middle of the restaurant. Their parking lot is pretty big - it was a busy Friday night and had no trouble finding parking. We ordered the bone-in ribeye steak - it was super juicy and perfectly seasoned! If you've been to the San Gabriel location this location is different in that there's no shelled peanuts (they serve them pre-shelled) and you have to ask for them - they don't automatically give them to you. Also, they only serve one portion of salad on a plate - unlike the SG location where they serve the salad family style in a huge salad bowl. Our server was Matt, and he was extremely attentive and polite. I can't say the same thing about the young lady host at the front- she wasn't very helpful or friendly of accommodating - for that I had to knock down one star. The cheesy bread they bring out is very good. The salad could have a little more like cherry tomatoes or cucumbers it was basically just lettuce and croutons. Pro-tip make your reservation on their website. When you visit make sure to take a sweater or light jacket as it can get super cold at times. I love this place. I've been coming for many many decades. The service is always great although tonight we had a reservation for 4 o'clock and they wanted us to wait and wait to be seated. I finally said something and they seated us. I shouldn't have to ask again and again to get seated. Really the only other complaint is that it's just too dark. I couldn't see if my steak was cooked properly and I couldn't see how much salt was coming out of the salt shaker for the baked potato. I guess it's a personal preference.
