Steak n Stein never disappoints. The service is consistently phenomenal. Candace always goes above and beyond to make every visit special. She has great suggestions, incredibly friendly, and is always happy to answer any questions. She makes the experience better. The food is amazing. The salads are always fresh, and dressings are delicious. My personality favorite is mixing a little French dressing with their blue cheese. Their baked potatoes are an absolute must! They're huge and perfectly cooked, especially loaded up with butter, cheese, sour cream and chives. Don't skip the onion rings! They are always cooked to perfection and another favorite of mine. Stopped by on Sunday for brunch with my fiancé. We noticed that the menus changed, no dessert and a little more expensive. Gave it a 2 star review because the food was good. Dropped the stars because: No dessert, higher prices and I paid for the brunch which includes mimosas. My glass was empty. Only came by to fill it twice. The place is nice and dark but enough light to see. The service is usually great but there were some mistakes, like the waitress dropping the potato. The steaks are usually great but there was inconsistency with all of them this night, and when your bill is about $500 for 2 adults and 4 kids you expect better. Highlight was the purple cabbage and the calamari. The biggest letdown was the server didn't stay true to the service, she didn't make the baked potato, she just said butter first sour cream and chives and that's not what I wanted for my kids their first visit. Very few good solid vegetables like asparagus, broccoli, carrots anywhere on the menu. Bread was more chewy than fresh/crisp/hot. Steak was undercooked in half the length of it, so too rare and grisly, therefore CHEWY, this really surprised me. Steak combo with scallops means about 3 scallops-medium sized? My wife's portion of Sea Bass, was a portion and did not feel like a focal point or generous serving to her, but a side. The chives for the potatoes weren't fresh chopped but actually blended/grinded to a mush, food processor? Sour cream was more soupy than solid. We will come back-but not really for the strength of the meal-I mentioned to them that it was my wife's birthday, directly to the waiter-he commented and said a flattering phrase/joke, it was Easter too, but our info seemed to go in one ear and out the other. Got together with some friends and and started off in the bar. The bar area is a bit tight and narrow, but there are plenty of seats. Made our way to the dining room near the old fire pit in the center of the floor. Most of us ordered the prefix filet meal. One defector ordered the salmon. The filet was a generous 10oz cut and this comes with their cheese bread, onion rings, baked potato, salad, and dessert (choice of key lime pie or the chocolate mousse cake). I ordered my rare and it came out perfect between rare and medium rare. The salad was delicious and u get three choices of dressing (blue cheese, thousand island and Russian). The baked potato was huge, took half home along with half my steak. The key lime pie pie was ok, (I prefer watergrill's key lime pie) I did try the chocolate mousse cake and should have chosen that one. The onion rings were lightly battered and tasty. Service moved a bit slow, as the place was pretty busy for a Wednesday night. One minor disappointment that we had was bringing in three bottles of wine and told the corkage fee was $15.95 per bottle. We received the bill and our server charged us $19.95 a bottle. For dessert, I had the key lime pie tart. Cheese breads come with the meal. It was delicious. They are very generous with the bread. They would refill the bread basket as often as you'd like. The baked potato is huge. It is served with butter, sour cream, chives and cheese sauce on the side. You can add as much as you like to suit your taste. The petit filet mignon is small, only 5-oz, but it was very tasty. I asked for medium and it was cooked just right. The key lime pie tart and the chocolate mousse cake were both good. I had a taste of both. Service was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient. The interior of the restaurant is dimly lit. It is rather dark inside. It gives an old fashion 50's vibe. First time at this location - I normally go to the San Gabriel location. I was pleasantly surprised to see such an ample waiting area and a very pretty, lit-up water fountain in the middle of the restaurant. Their parking lot is pretty big - it was a busy Friday night and had no trouble finding parking. We ordered the bone-in ribeye steak - it was super juicy and perfectly seasoned! If you've been to the San Gabriel location this location is different in that there's no shelled peanuts (they serve them pre-shelled) and you have to ask for them - they don't automatically give them to you. Also, they only serve one portion of salad on a plate - unlike the SG location where they serve the salad family style in a huge salad bowl. Our server was Matt, and he was extremely attentive and polite. I can't say the same thing about the young lady host at the front- she wasn't very helpful or friendly of accommodating - for that I had to knock down one star. I was a bit concerned when my friend suggested this place as it looked a bit older on the outside, however walking closer to the door, I could smell something delicious. It was really dark but the holiday lights brightened it up nicely. This place has been around for a long time and I soon realized why. This was an old school steakhouse with reddish/brown interior with comfortable seating. The staff are formal in their presentation of food. I appreciated not having to think too much about sides to order as the signature cuts - rib eye includes a house salad, cabbage, baked potato and cheese bread. It was suggested to mix some cabbage with the salad which was excellent. The cheese bread was addicting. I was worried that I would be too full for the rib eye! The waiter set up the cart pouring vodka onto the steak to light it on fire to finish it off! Such a great presentation. I was impressed! I couldn't believe how perfect my steak was prepared - a perfect medium rare! It was delicious! Melted in my mouth so tender. I haven't had this good of a rib eye in a long time at a restaurant. What a deal! $40 a person, 3 course pre fixed menu, with bottomless mimosa, champagne, wine and fruit juice. Let me tell you, when they say bottomless, they really mean it!
