Same comfy dining room for decades.

I've been coming to this C&P's for 53 years. That's because my parents were coming here before I was born, and then I was here as a baby I've had meals that were great, and meals that were just Meh. The quality has been I consistent the last 10 years or so, but lately it's been really good. It got back to the quality I remember from 20 years ago. The only complaint I had this trip is that it seemed like the ranch dressing was not the same. I used to buy jars of it to take home, but not this time. It tasted processed and not homemade. Oh well. I had the beef ribs dinner, and they were delicious Perfectly smoked with sticky BBQ sauce permeating the meat. So good. The salad and fries were the standard good. I'll be back of course, and I hope they keep up the consistency

It has a great old restaurant feeling. They do have a take out counter. The booth we sat in was comfortable and roomie. I ordered the pull pork sandwich and it comes with fries and one side. I ordered the coleslaw. I did enjoy the slaw it was sweet. The pulled pork was delicious. The flavor, the BBQ sauce has a great flavor to it . The sandwich is served on a French roll. The restaurant and the restroom were clean. The waitress was friendly.

Chris & Pitt's in Downey is pure, unfiltered comfort--and walking through those doors instantly takes me back. It looks, smells, and tastes exactly the same as it did when I went growing up, and honestly, that's what makes it so special. There's something incredibly comforting about a place that doesn't try to reinvent itself every few years. The portions are still huge, the BBQ sauce still has that signature tangy-sweet magic, and the whole vibe is wonderfully no-frills. It's definitely not fancy, and that's part of the charm. The wood paneling, the old-school booths, the sizzling platters--it all feels like a snapshot from another time, in the best way. If you're looking for nostalgia, hearty portions, and food that hits the same every time, Chris & Pitt's delivers. It's not trying to impress--it's just consistently, reliably good, and that's exactly why I keep coming back.

Spaghetti in meat sauce with a meatball. Recommended as a side option instead of beans and fries.

Still one of my favorite places to eat. I have been going to various Chris' & Pitt's restaurants for over thirty years. This time I ordered the large Brady cut Prime Rib. I figured I would splurge since I had a recent birthday. The salad that came with it was crispy and fresh. I have always enjoyed their homemade French dressing which is tangy and slightly sweet. The packet of saltines are Gamesa Saladitas which were very fresh. Lots of places serve stale cracker packets but not here. The prime rib was ordered medium rare but was closer to medium in temperature. It was still very good tasting. I ordered the spaghetti as a side instead of the barbecue beans and French fries. The spaghetti is still my favorite with its very meaty sauce and large singular meatball. It is a spaghetti that I measure all others with. Very delicious with a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. The garlic toast came with a mushroom flavored au jus that was perfect for dipping. All in all, it was a pleasant lunch. I have previously enjoyed their "Dinner for Two" with beef ribs before. It is a good deal in itself if one has a dining companion. The service here was very polite and efficient. A separate entrance and waiting area just for take out orders is a nice convenience. Plenty of parking in their dedicated lot. This location is freeway close as well. I am looking forward to a return visit if in the area again.

the wife and i had dinner at Chris & Pitts last night with the Downey Supper club. there were about 30 of us in the side room. the service was great and the food was supper yummy. the owner - Debbie and her daughter Nikki - were there and shared stories about their father who was Chris of Chris & Pitts. i had the rib combo for dinner and some of it was my lunch today. i will definitely go back for more, and so should you

Been a few since I've been here. The smell is still great and To Go is booming a lot of young ones working here very nice to see. Waiting a few for a table. Big change restrooms are more separate instead of going in one door they are separate. Still rustic feeling but very clean throughout the restaurant. Cristian is our wait staff and Mayra another wait staff helping out great to see team work in action. Cristian is very knowledgeable of the menu Very nice and friendly So my grandson we ordered ahead and came in good time and good portion Had to get the onion flower great size still and added a new sauce bbq with a kick as well as ranch We got soup, beef barley still a favorite and chicken soup as well. Seafood combo good spread my wife said flavorful and good portion. chicken fried steak my daughters go too for many years still the biggest you will find. My son in law so happy with ribs combo, juicy compared to others he had that were dry. D*ve & b**st*rs so to speak. I had prime rib it was great but had end cut which is a aquired taste because its well done. Stil I enjoyed it Still a great place for BBQ in its own way. Not many establishments left like this classic place atmosphere = 8 Customer service = 9 Wait staff = 8 Cleanliness = 8 Prices to product (per economy) = 8 Food = 8 I love this place been a Customer for many years. But my review is a honest one Thank you for great food

The owner Debbie responded to my recent post in 5 minutes , and apologized for not responding to my private message. "I'm so sorry it was minimized and I couldn't see it and it just came back up. I'll mail it out today so sorry for the delay. " I did receive the promised gift certificates today. I wanted to acknowledge that she followed through publicly. Because of her response I adjusted my review to a "2" Thank you for following through. John

We had really good service, this place needs a facelift, however the food is still great. Prices are decent and atmosphere was good. We need to keep supporting our local gems.

    Beef brisket done right!

An all time favorite! Nothing has changed since I was born. We have been coming here for 50 years. Very clean bathrooms. Large portions. Excellent wait staff. Barbecue done low and slow!!!

Prime rib (king) $27.55 asked for medium rare but it's more like medium, flavor wise it's just ok

This place is like an old-time diner. There's nothing fancy about the food, their salad is just lettuce straight out the bag , and the portions are huge--definitely big enough to share a plate. Our group has come here a couple of times, with our most recent visit being for Friendsgiving. We noticed the "broasted chicken" on the menu and decided to give it a try not knowing what's broasted chicken. It is actually fried chicken using the pressure cook, master, It takes 20 minutes to prepare, so you have to order a little ahead of time. When it arrived, I had a wing, and it was pretty good! It had the crispiness of fried chicken, but the meat was also fall-off-the-bone tender from being pressure-cooked. Plus, it wasn't too salty or greasy. Normally, I enjoy their prime rib, but I'm cutting back on beef, so I skipped it this time. Our waiter, Andrew, was probably the best employee I've seen for a long time . He knew the menu well and explained everything clearly. For example, regular menu and the daily special menu .With such a big menu, his guidance really helped! Overall, if you're looking for delicious, unpretentious food, this is the place to go.

Recently I watched a police chase on youtube from 2015, I think, and the helicopter had to leave before it was settled. Did they get the guy who ran into the restaurant with a gun? I know this is silly but I was just wondering.

Yes he took hostages. He was in there for about an hour. While he was letting some hostages out he started acting erratic. When SWAT had their opportunity they shot him once and went in and took him out. No hostages were hurt

When we arrived, there were no tables set up and the hostess acted like she had no clue about our reservation. She seemed frazzled as she tried to put 3 tables & 8 chairs together for us. My wife ordered the boneless ribeye with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were bland, and the ribeye was over-seasoned, tough, and quite fatty. The seafood tower was good, as was my daughter's ceviche and my shrimp, but overall the experience fell short. And the music was extremely loud for being such a small establishment. Penelope, was excellent--very attentive and pleasant throughout the meal. Let's start with a little history of the Dal Rae, it opened in 1951 and has been sharing its extraordinary menu and dining experience to many including my wife's parents and family who dined there regularly for over 40 years. My wife's parents and her sisters would go there regularly as children. The Dal Rae offers a unique "old school" charm from the classic dining room vibe that you seldom see, don't get me wrong there are still a few of these places around but you know I experienced so much that I just don't see anymore. The dark dining room lit by table candles and dim lighting, featuring a long hardwood bar with the same lighting making amazing cocktails past the stage that hosts live entertainment to the dining rooms with the same lighting with booths with clothed tables, baskets of breads and a relish tray. The entire staff is friendly and honored to have you in their dining room. Let's talk about the food, a good sized menu offering some old school appetizers as well as your others, fine cuts of meats, fresh seafoods and aged beef. My entree came with a house salad that I have to say was the best dinner salad I have ever had, I am not sure if it was the fact that the salad was prepared and tossed with the house made blue cheese dressing with large chunks of blue cheese with simple additions but every bite was incredible. If I wasn't in such a classy establishment I would have kicked the plate . (But I didn't) our entrees came after our salads and some had French Onion Soup. My brother in law/wife and his brother/wife and sister/husband along with my wife filled our table. My brother in law and his siblings also dined at the Dal Rae with their parents when they were young and still come to this day. So there was a lot of great food on our table as well as great family. I ordered the Steak Diane a dish rarely found these days, I was so excited to have this again and just as excited to try it at Dal Rae, as it was prepared table side you could instantly smell the aromas of Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, butter and other ingredients then the brandy with a flash of fire creating the fragrant decadent sauce only to be found in Steak Diane. It was Molto Bene in every bite e tutti delizioso! All our dishes were simply incredible, great flavors and served with such class and old school charm. We also had the pleasure of the owner coming to our table and sharing some history of the restaurant and his family commitments to serving the community, people from Los Alamitos Race Track, the jockeys, the owners, the fans and continuing to do so. We all were so full we passed on the dessert menu but if I could fit it into my leg I would have gone with the Bananas Foster.....so I guess I need to come back for more. And Dal Rae I will be back....thank you for everything and an amazing dining experience. Well done Dal Rae, Well done Bon appetitto

My cousin talks very highly of this restaurant but it didn't really meet my expectations…read more We had a 5:30 reservation in the covered patio area but since we had an additional person, they moved us into a table in the bar. They started us off with warm bread and butter. Then right before the food actually comes, they give you another basket of bread but this time it's cheesey garlic bread. Every entree comes with veggies (not sure if it's seasonal/rotating but we all got broccoli) and a choice of side. I ordered the 10oz prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. We also ordered the seabass. Baked potato is served tableside. My prime rib was a little too overcooked. The seabass was pretty good. It was a thick and tender piece. Now why I'm giving it 2 stars.. our server. I caught her rolling her eyes a couple times as she's walking away from our table. I didn't think we were being complicated but apparently she did. It was not giving "steakhouse service" (but what do you expect, it's Pico Rivera). The food was also mediocre at best. Everything was under seasoned. Quite frankly, it reminded us of "cruise food." The ambience is dark and loud. Not sure if the rest of the restaurant was just as dark since they seated us in the bar. The tables are very close together and there's not much walking space. They have several private rooms for parties. The waiting area was pretty packed after we got seated. The crowd is definitely on the older side. Unless you grew up eating here, not worth a try
