What a disappointment. I've craved Chris & Pitts for tens of years, since the Van Nuys location closed, which we went to regularly and loved. We wanted to re-live the Chris & Pitts experience so we made the hour-plus drive to the Downey location. After a long wait with many, many empty tables clearly visible, we eventually got seated. The table was sticky and didn't feel super clean. The only thing on the table were two sugar packets and one Sweet & Low package in the metal holder...nothing else. At this point, I overheard the table behind us asking for A-1 Steak Sauce and they were told they were out of it. How could a steak house on the level of Chris & Pitts not have A-1? (I could see an upscale place like Ruth Chris not offering it). We had to ask for utensils and napkins AFTER our soups were served, (we had nothing to eat it with), and it felt like we were out of line to do so. They weren't presented or noticed when our waitress took our order. Our food was decent. I ordered a steak option that INCLUDED two sides. When my bill came, I was taken aback that I was charged an additional $4.75 for BBQ Beans AND and an additional $1.65 for a baked potato. Keep in mind the dinner included two sides. So they tacked on an additional $6.40 for the sides alone. I've gotten it out my system and won't be making that hour-plus drive again. read more

The ribs don't taste the same, they're not as tender as it used to be and for the price I'm sorry, I wish it were better for the amount we paid. 2:30 on a Sunday wait was about a half hour. Figured with that wait time and all the people there that we were in for a great meal. I could not have been more wrong. They were short staffed and that was why there was such a long wait. That can be forgiven. But the food...oh my lord was the worst I have had in my life. I really loved chris and pitts. I used to go to the anaheim location. Then they closed down and became a jollibee. Sadness... it's been over 10 years? I am still sad about it. Downey location is the next closest location to me. I have to drive 15 miles just to get my fix. C&B is comfort food. The portions are big and the prices are decent. The decor still has that oudated 70s feel. But who cares the food is consistent. My go to are the queen prime rib or the fried shrimp. Each plate comes with one side, a small salad, and garlic bread. I suggest you share a plate unless you like eating left overs. Which I think is still good reheated. I was also ble to sample the country fried steak. I also find it delicious. Good flavor, crispy and a nice texture. But at the end if the day my heart belongs to the prime ribs. Tip: Order the prime ribs rare if you usually order medium rare and like it on the more bloodier side. As I am writing this review I am drooling. read more

Disappointed. The Whittier location closed and it was a favorite of mine and my son. We came here to celebrate my birthday for lunch and it was terrible. My ribs were inedible. They were cold and tough. The bread was also cold and hard. Our waitress was too busy serving the rest of the room to check on us. Very disappointed. What was once a very large juicy burger, a favorite,came out this tiny dry sandwich no more than one inch in height including bun, pickle, tomato, lettuce and the meat, I ordered the pork sandwich. The only thing making it a pork sandwich was the large chunks of pork fat on a bun and two very very small pieces of pork on each half. Both sandwiches sucked and my milk shake was watery in lieu of the cold thick shakes I so loved. Bad slow service to add. Honestly one of the worst places I've ever eaten at in my 52 years of life. Soda machine was broken, my ribs were completely inedible, the cheese on my sons burger was cold and nasty, and the meat on the burger seemed rotten. Way over-priced for what you're getting. Went to Downey location because Whittier location closed. I have been going to Chris & Pitts for over 40 years. I can honestly say the special dinner top sirloin with fries, au jus was the worst I have ever had! I asked for the steak medium and it came well done. It had no juiciness at all and tasted like it had been in the freezer prior. The fries had a freezer taste also. The au jus tasted sour. I will never return to this Downey location. Prior to entering the front door, someone had vomited and that really wasn't pleasant to look at. Over all food was really disappointing! My server was really friendly was the only good thing I came away with. I will have to try the Bellflower location and hopefully the steak will taste like that fire pit they advertise! read more

I have been eating at this location and the Bellflower location for 30 years. The food is still outstanding. Everything remains as I remember it when by granddad would take me years ago. Blue cheese salad, onion flower appetizer, baby back ribs or rib eye steak. Always AMAZING. The beef ribs are also amazing. Lots of meat on them, perfectly slow cooked. Last night my family and friends celebrate my brother birthday at Chris-n-Pitt's a perfect way to celebrate his birthday to have good bbq with family and friends. The restaurant was pack but we friends got there sign up for a table they couple of family celebrate their love ones birthday. Everybody at the table order different item on the menu but my wife and I order the deluxe combo for two it come with St Louis ribs, baby back ribs, bbq chicken also comes your choice of soup and salad and two sides plus two dessert. We were surprise this meal can feed up three or four people it's a huge meal, we were trying finish it but we couldn't do it. The ribs were very good but some were over cook but I love it because it have so flavor when bbq sauce caramelized I call it meat candy it so Before we got the King Henry the 8th meal I got the a cup chili it comes with meal, I was stun they serve me a bowl instead of a cup but I'm happy. The chili was really good lots of flavor and meat in the chili. My wife and I enjoy the cole slaw wow it have so much flavors in the cole slaw. The broth come with bread was too salty. Overall my family and friends enjoy the meal at Chris-n-Pitt's we would come again for a big meal to share with family and friends. First timer at this location which has been around for decades. Came in for lunch on a mid afternoon Saturday after finishing a yoga class and cleaning up. It was pass the lunch hour so I missed the crowds that can form here. I ordered the lunch special which is offered even on Saturdays. They have a good selection to choose from but I went with the quarter BBQ chicken, beef rib, salad, BBQ baked beans, bowl of beef barley soup and garlic bread. All this for just over a ten bucks. The salad was fresh and crisp and the soup was piping hot delish. I was filling up just after these two items but dove into my main entrée - once it arrived. Beef ribs are common to find, so I made it a point to include that with my chicken which was just average. The beef rib was full of meat and tasted great and complimented the Bbq beans, which I dipped my garlic bread in and savored. My parents have been eating here for the past 20 years and like to make a trip down to Downey every now and then to enjoy the food. I hadn't been in the past decade until this past weekend, and I was actually really impressed. They're obsessed with the baby back ribs and order them every time. My parents swear they're some of the best they've ever had. I don't eat pork so I ordered the steak, half bbq chicken combination plate with bbq beans, fries, garlic bread, and a cup of chili. Yes. All of that is ONE MEAL. My steak was cooked to perfection, my chicken was moist, and the steak fries RULED. I wasn't a fan of the baked beans, as they tasted a bit too much of onions for my taste. The chili was also very good-- but it was literally all meat, pretty much a meal in itself--so beware! Went to the Whittier location as usual for our Chris and pitta fix but it was closed, indefinitely we were told. First time to Downey but got the same friendly greeting upon entering. Service was excellent during our visit! My husband got our favorite go to, chicken fried steak and I had the broasted chicken. The gravy still tasted like I remembered and I wanted to just drink it! Lol Steak was tender with a delicious crispy outside and my chicken was crispy and juicy! Used the gravy for dipping! And of course we crumbled our crackers on our salad with ranch to start. Got a half rack plate with chili on the side. It was just okay. Ribs were not tender and on the dry side. Chili was actually pretty good. It would've been great with a side of excellent corn bread. Garlic bread or fries nothing great. Nice cozy ambience for small and big groups. Margarita was tasty but expensive with probably a teaspoon of liquor, if at all. Horrible customer service! I called yesterday to see if I could make a reservation and was told I needed to be out on hold - I was kept on hold for 5 mins!!! I ended the call and called back and it literally took the girl less than 30 seconds to tell me they don't take reservations! How hard would that have been to do from the start instead of putting me on hold and forgetting about me?? My boyfriend and I decided to drive down to see how long the wait would be and the parking there is a joke - they have about 10 parking spaces for the restaurant and the rest of the parking is all for Golden Corral. We were back in CA for the weekend visiting and wanted to stop in here for lunch. Sad to say it is not what I remember from previous visits. This used to be a regular spot when we lived in CA and the food / service never disappointed. You can tell things have changed and not for the better. Spare ribs the end of the slab dry hard & old. Baby backs the same oh one was burnt black! Chicken was dry also.I spent over $80 for food I can only give my dog. Never again.
