Going in the place is cute, I didn't like the fact that a very dirty homeless man came in and walked around the entire place. Set stuff down on a table and no one said a darn thing. I usually go to the other location, but since it was closed - my friend and I came to this location. We walked in and... waited to be seated. There were no other people in front of us, but we waited. Several waitresses saw us, but didn't acknowledge us at all. About 10 minutes later, a big group came in and they finally came over to seat us. Service was quick - we sat down, ordered and food came out within a good amount of time. As always, the food was good. Unfortunately, our waitress pretty much left us alone for the rest of the meal. We couldn't get anything from her - refill on water, condiments, the bill, etc. In the end, after we were finished, we waited again for someone to get me a box and the check. If the restaurant was busy, I could understand the slower service. However, it was not packed and there were more workers than in previous visits. This is not about the food. Food was great and fresh. This, unfortunately was about the service received in our last visit. The ambiance of this restaurant was ruined by the service received. We were meeting family there for our mother's birthday since our house water had been shut down for an emergency main line repairs causing us to change plans. There were 6 of us. Our waiter took about 10 minutes to greet us and when he did it was very stoic and unfriendly. He was inattentive to the point we had to ask for our condiments 3 times before recovering the plastic small cups of ketchup, honey mustard and blue cheese. We had to walk up to the drink station and ask for water since it didn't come 20 min after the second time we asked. When we were handing over our plates from our appetizers to make space he went about 10 feet and through them into a bin making a large crash noise multiple times like he was inconvenienced. Further more once we paid we surprised to see an automatic gratuity since our party was 6 people leaving a bad taste in our mouth feeling like he truly did not try to serve us, connecting that he knew he'd get a large tip. I would argue that he did not even do the bare minimum serving us. We also told him we were there celebrating and he did not even engage in a conversation with us. We watched another waiter hustling providing attention to each of his tables in different areas and he was friendly. We also even saw him singing happy birthday with another group. We know not everyone has their best days and being in the service industry is hard, especially after holidays... but this was a wild experience for celebrating a joyous occasion and was distracting to our group for the duration of the night. We hope Nathan has a better day and can learn the impact he has on families and their experiences when they are in his care for dinner. read more

I've been eating at C&Ps since I was a child. Decided to stop in and check out their new "Weekly Specials" last night. Was seated quickly and the overall service was fine. The food on the other hand was terrible, specifically the Rib Combo. The beef rib was dry, overcooked, and loaded with burnt black bbq sauce, nothing edible. I assume the rib was from days ago and just reheated. The spare rib seemed to be fresh but mostly chewy fat and seemed undercooked, without the wood smoke flavor I remember from this place. I kind of suspect they serve the days old leftover ribs for their specials and the freshly cooked for the regular priced entrees. Whatever the case I will not be back anytime soon. Hopefully I will have better luck at the Bellflower location. read more

Many many moons ago I used to live out this way. In my family, Chris and Pitts was a part of the community and a place where you would take the whole family for dinner or to celebrate. My particular Chris and Pitts was located in Bell on Atlantic (side note: does anyone remember the Pioneer chicken that was across the street? Deliciousness). Anyway, one of my earliest memories comes from celebrating one of my cousin's baby showers there as my other cousin was a waitress there at the time. I remember thinking wow this is so much food! And of course it was all delicious. Well, the Bell location has been gone for a long time, I no longer live in the area, but will occasionally still stop at this location if I'm in the area. It's still a lot of food at a good price. I prefer the steaks to the bbq, but have also enjoyed their burger offerings. Overall a decent value for the price. read more

My aunt and I went to eat at the Chris and Pitts in Downey, California for lunch. I wanna say that the service and the food was wonderful. They have plenty of tables in the back that are wheelchair handicap accessible and booths if you prefer. There's also handicap parking right in front of the restaurant. The food is wonderful. They have a great selection of desserts too. I would really recommend for an appetizer the onion flower it's delicious. It's a must. They have public restrooms for men and women indoors for their customers. A lot of their employees have been there for years and I just wanna shout out Jose. He was our server that day and he treated us very well and he went above and beyond for me and my aunt are visiting the Chris Pitts and Downey and even help my aunt out who is partially disabled to her car thank you Chris and Pitts. Today, I was in Downey for work and had a craving for some good BBQ, so I remembered Chris and Pitts--an OG spot that's been around for 75 years! I hadn't been here in over 15 years, so I decided to go with my coworker. Let me just say, WOW--the food was just as amazing as I remember. The customer service was top-notch, and the ambiance felt like you were in a cozy cabin, really setting the vibe for a great meal. I went with the ribs combo platter, which included beef, spare, and baby back ribs, and it was seriously delicious. My friend got the steak, and the Au Jus sauce was incredible. On the side, the mac & cheese and baked beans were perfect complements to the meal. I'm not usually a blue cheese fan, but when I tried my friend's salad with the blue cheese dressing, I was honestly surprised. It was actually really good--I might be a blue cheese convert now! So I know a lot of people have different thoughts about this place. Yes it's old, yes it's been around a long time. But the one thing I can say, it's consistent. I've lived in Downey most of my life and I've eaten at Chris and Pitt's literally hundreds of times. and the food is consistently good. It may seem a little expensive, but tell me a restaurant that isn't. The servings are huge compared to other places, which makes this restaurant a great value for the money. The food is always perfect!!! We are coming up here to continue to support an establishment that we have loved for years. We usually go to the Bellflower location. Due to unforeseen issues that location has closed. Being a customer at the Bellflower location for so many years and observing how hard the girls and the cooks worked there really makes me wonder what is happening?? I met Debbie the owner while at the Downey location also met Ruby, the manager the same day. Debbie in my opinion is being completely fooled by her manager. This lady puts on a different attitude and persona when Debbie is around. Most people do that when the owner is around. I honestly think that because of the lack of management is why the Bellflower location was closed. We have never seen Ruby in that location. She caters to the Downey location and let the Bellflower location go. The owner can believe what she wants, but we have been patrons for 30+ years and we see it with our own eyes. The Downey location is suffering severely due to lack of servers and we have yet to see one of the servers from Bellflower be brought up to assist in the influx of customers going to Downey now that the Bellflower location is closed. You would think that you would talk to your employees as an owner and not just talk to your manager. Your employees are the reason your business succeeds. Because the owner and the "manager " are not doing the work they are. They are the ones the public sees and talks to. Chris and Pitts is probably one of my most vivid childhood memories. We ate here all.the.time. Today I brought my mom for a pre Mother's-Day dinner and I was so incredibly disappointed. Service: 0/10 This service was absolutely abysmal. I walked in, there was a man already waiting in front of me to be seated. There were FIVE women behind the counter. Five. Not of them acknowledged the man in front of me or myself. The man in front of me said he'd been waiting five minutes without being acknowledged. Finally, I asked if we seat ourselves. One of the ladies answered that there was a hostess and she would seat us. She was polite, but gosh, nobody had the initiative to say someone will be right with you!? This was literally within a minute of being there. I should've know and chose somewhere else. On to the meals. We waited at least 15 minutes before anyone acknowledge our Table. Finally, when the waiter came we ordered anticipating the lack of efficiency. After 20 mins, our salads were brought. We didn't even have our drinks or silverware. We eventually got those. Another 30 minutes later, four out of five peoples orders came. As I type this, I'm still waiting for my food. Food: 7/10 The food we did get was good/fine. It's nostalgic for me, so I like it. This is a restaurant that I will NEVER go to again. My friend wanted to go there for his birthday to get a steak. What? You can get a steak almost anywhere. His steak arrived and it was small. I asked the waiter if the chicken breast sandwich was bar-b-q and he told me I could have the sauce on the side. A good waiter would have described the sandwich (lettuce, tomato, onion ring, pickles and PROCESSED CHEESE) and I would have ordered something else. The baked potato was so small that it was literally 4 bites. We never saw the waiter again until he brought the check. I mentioned that we were celebrating my friends birthday and a scoop of ice cream arrived with a touch of chocolate sauce. In a tiny cup. Didn't even bring two spoons. Been going to Chris & Pitts since the Bethlehem Steel Company was in operation. First at the South Gate location, then the Pico Rivera location. Now here. Thankfully the recipe has not changed. I come here for the spare ribs. They smell so good and taste so good. My only issue is that the meat under the top layer of bbq is super dry and hard. I ask for extra bbq sauce to moisten the meat to make it easier to chew. Other than that, I really love the taste. read more
