    Deluxe Combo For Two
    Tim B.

I wanted to like this place so badly, as I've heard about it many times. The bottom line is this: management needs to staff appropriately for a Saturday night and set expectations with the staff of the basics of running a restaurant. The good: we had a party of 10 and got in on a Saturday within 25 mins. The beef barley soup and the chili were amazing. Some of the best beef barley I've ever had. The blue cheese and the onion rings were amazing. The ribs were slightly above average to me and lacked sauce. The bad: the men's restroom was a humid, dirty mess. You could tell it hadn't been cleaned and it was noticeably 10 degrees hotter and 100x more humid than the restaurant. I had to hold my breath. Maybe get some ventilation in there? Our server had two large parties. Us and another. Every other server had a few small tables of 2 to 4 people. It didn't look like any server helps any other server. We waited 45 mins for waters, salads and soups. Why couldn't the other servers offer to help our server? Poor team work. Our server was kind and had a good personality, but was severely overwhelmed and apologetic. It took an hour and a half get our dinners overall. Not acceptable. This was clearly due to understaffing and lack of teamwork. Management: train your staff to work together more and clean the bathroom. I spent $100 on a meal for 2, a bland strawberry milkshake, and an overall bad experience. If it wasn't for the delicious good, this would be one star.

Salad with the best blue cheese ever.

Came here to have dinner on a whim. Pleasantly surprised with their weekly special, which was spaghetti for $16. We decided on another special which included two baby back ribs, one spare and one beef rib for $16.95. The special also included baked potato, super salad and a piece of garlic bread all in which were very yummy. With the economy being what it is, we felt we got our moneys worth. Food was tasty very laid-back environment and most of all we get to watch the Dodger game. Our server Nathan was friendly and pleasant

One of the best fish sandwiches I've ever had giant hoagie roll giant piece of cod pretty sure I've already left a review on that. What I'm doing is leaving review. I got chili on the side and took it home with the red onions. They gave me for the fish sandwich and put it on Hotdog. It was phenomenal so I recommend if you're a chili dog person it's very tasty chili better than most Hotdog chili you get at these places. It's a slurry very little meat when you get it at these hotdog places the chili here was loaded with beef very little beans. Great flavor some of the best chili dogs I've had in a while homemade with their chili.

    Queen Size Prime Rib Dinner

Dropped by for a late lunch and was seated right away. Wasn't too busy but quite loud with the table near us. The staff was somewhat friendly. I used to come here all the time when I was younger, but I hadn't been back in a few years. Unfortunately, the food has definitely changed. It doesn't taste the same, and the prices have gone up to the point where it no longer feels worth it. I ordered my usual: the Queen Size Prime Rib with beef barley soup and all fries. The prime rib was honestly terrible -- I'm not sure if it was the cut or the au jus, but something tasted off and seemed overcooked for medium rare. The beef barley soup was just okay, nowhere near as good as I remember. The garlic bread was still good, and the fries were just plain, nothing special. Overall, I left really disappointed. This place used to hold a lot of good memories from family dinners, but it just isn't the same anymore.

Chris & Pitts is one of those places that keeps you coming back. The food is always delicious, fresh, and full of flavor, and the service is consistently outstanding. What really makes this restaurant special is Ruby. Ruby runs the place with such care and professionalism, making every guest feel welcomed and valued. It's clear she takes pride in what she does, and it shows in every aspect of the dining experience. Great food, amazing service Chris & Pitts never disappoints. Highly recommend! We take the drive all the way from Encino and plan our day out there and that's what I look forward to the most eat at C&P

I've been coming to this C&P's for 53 years. That's because my parents were coming here before I was born, and then I was here as a baby I've had meals that were great, and meals that were just Meh. The quality has been I consistent the last 10 years or so, but lately it's been really good. It got back to the quality I remember from 20 years ago. The only complaint I had this trip is that it seemed like the ranch dressing was not the same. I used to buy jars of it to take home, but not this time. It tasted processed and not homemade. Oh well. I had the beef ribs dinner, and they were delicious Perfectly smoked with sticky BBQ sauce permeating the meat. So good. The salad and fries were the standard good. I'll be back of course, and I hope they keep up the consistency

It has a great old restaurant feeling. They do have a take out counter. The booth we sat in was comfortable and roomie. I ordered the pull pork sandwich and it comes with fries and one side. I ordered the coleslaw. I did enjoy the slaw it was sweet. The pulled pork was delicious. The flavor, the BBQ sauce has a great flavor to it . The sandwich is served on a French roll. The restaurant and the restroom were clean. The waitress was friendly.

Chris & Pitt's in Downey is pure, unfiltered comfort--and walking through those doors instantly takes me back. It looks, smells, and tastes exactly the same as it did when I went growing up, and honestly, that's what makes it so special. There's something incredibly comforting about a place that doesn't try to reinvent itself every few years. The portions are still huge, the BBQ sauce still has that signature tangy-sweet magic, and the whole vibe is wonderfully no-frills. It's definitely not fancy, and that's part of the charm. The wood paneling, the old-school booths, the sizzling platters--it all feels like a snapshot from another time, in the best way. If you're looking for nostalgia, hearty portions, and food that hits the same every time, Chris & Pitt's delivers. It's not trying to impress--it's just consistently, reliably good, and that's exactly why I keep coming back.

Spaghetti in meat sauce with a meatball. Recommended as a side option instead of beans and fries.

Still one of my favorite places to eat. I have been going to various Chris' & Pitt's restaurants for over thirty years. This time I ordered the large Brady cut Prime Rib. I figured I would splurge since I had a recent birthday. The salad that came with it was crispy and fresh. I have always enjoyed their homemade French dressing which is tangy and slightly sweet. The packet of saltines are Gamesa Saladitas which were very fresh. Lots of places serve stale cracker packets but not here. The prime rib was ordered medium rare but was closer to medium in temperature. It was still very good tasting. I ordered the spaghetti as a side instead of the barbecue beans and French fries. The spaghetti is still my favorite with its very meaty sauce and large singular meatball. It is a spaghetti that I measure all others with. Very delicious with a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. The garlic toast came with a mushroom flavored au jus that was perfect for dipping. All in all, it was a pleasant lunch. I have previously enjoyed their "Dinner for Two" with beef ribs before. It is a good deal in itself if one has a dining companion. The service here was very polite and efficient. A separate entrance and waiting area just for take out orders is a nice convenience. Plenty of parking in their dedicated lot. This location is freeway close as well. I am looking forward to a return visit if in the area again.

Recently I watched a police chase on youtube from 2015, I think, and the helicopter had to leave before it was settled. Did they get the guy who ran into the restaurant with a gun? I know this is silly but I was just wondering.

Yes he took hostages. He was in there for about an hour. While he was letting some hostages out he started acting erratic. When SWAT had their opportunity they shot him once and went in and took him out. No hostages were hurt

I had to go to the bathroom and when I walked thru the restaurant there were a lot of empty tables. Odd that there would be a wait. There was a table for 4 near the front door, without a reserved sign on it, and it was empty the entire time we waited. We were finally seated and they put us at a table for two. Meanwhile, that table for 4 was still empty. I'm not sure if you've ever spent time with a 10 month old, but clearly the hostess hasn't. They are grabby and want to explore everything they can possibly get their hands on, including hot plates on a table. Luckily, our server knew this and when a large party in the restaurant left, she brought us one of the 2 person tables they'd been using. Fortunately it also aligned with when our food was coming out so we didn't have to worry about our baby burning her hands on the plates put down on our table with a "they're hot" warning. The kitchen was really slow. I'm not sure if they were backed up, but with the amount of empty tables, they really shouldn't have been. It took at least 20 minutes for us to get our appetizer after we ordered it, which was the chile verde fries. Luckily, all of the food made up for the previous paragraphs and is the reason for 4 stars instead of 3. The Chile verde fries were so good! Not too spicy, a great balance of fries, meat, sauce, and cheese. The egg was a nice touch and made the dish feel like chilequilles with fries instead of chips. We also ordered a 3 meat plate with pulled pork, brisket, and tri tip. The pulled pork was pretty standard. The brisket was falling apart delicious and I liked that it didn't have a ton of fat in it. It was interesting that the tri tip had grill marks on it, I don't think I've ever seen that before, but it was very soft and delicious as well. For our sides we got the collard greens and mac and cheese. The collards were very high in vinegar, something we aren't used to, but my husband enjoyed them. The mac and cheese was really good! You can tell they use fresh cheeses as opposed to velveta. The garlic bread was good and really flavorful, but I do wonder why other tables around us seemed to get 2 slices per person and we got 2 slices total. Not a big deal tho, just found it odd. Overall, we really liked Steve's and will be back, as well as recommend it to people. We'll just make sure to have a reservation before we go, and maybe make it for a party of 4 to ensure we get a good sized table.

The Mac isn't the best I've had but it's worth a try. The meats are delicious, except for the chicken. For some reason I wasn't really impressed with the chicken. Service was pretty good and easy parking in the back. After lunch or dinner take a stroll in uptown and check out the shops. Overall Steve's is solid and I'll go back.

Words to describe the cuisine would be sophisticated and elevated BBQ with Romanian fusion. Very flavorful and filling! LOCATION: It is located in the food court at Stonewood Mall. HOURS: They serve lunch and dinner. 10:00am-8pm SERVICE: We were greeted with a warm smile by Lori. I have never tasted Romanian food before, so I was excited to learn about their menu. She recommended several items for us to choose from. MENU We ordered the 3 MEAT COMBO PLATTER: You can select different meats. We chose: pork belly, sausage, and ribs, with corn and french fries. Wow! Every bite was delicious! I loved the seasonings! Salty goodness from the pork belly, the Romanian sleeveless sausage, "Mici" made from beef and pork was perfectly seasoned and paired well with mustard, and the ribs were tender and fell right off the bones. None of the meats were tough and were very scrumptious! :) ------ BRISKET SANDWICH -Delicious! The brisket was very tasty and was definitely the star of the sandwich! The bread, cheese, and the veggies that accompanied the brisket was the perfect ratio. I could taste each element in every bite! Other dishes we ate: PASTRAMI SANDWICH: Fun fact, Pastrami originated from Romania! Pastrami comes from the word pastramă which means to preserve. So of course their pastrami was top notch! BURNT ENDS TRITIP SIDES: For the sides they were all yummy. Sides they serve include frenchfries, vegetables, macaroni, mashed potatoes, and corn. My personal favorite was the mashed potatoes! They were whipped to perfection and creamy. I enjoyed the meal with my friends! I liked the presentations of each dish. The generous portions, fresh ingredients, and the garnishes on top of the foods made it look very special. We had to give accolades to the cook, Manny who made each dish. ***All in all I had a great experience dining at Pitmasters' Society BBQ Grill! If you are a meat and potatoes person, THIS IS THE PLACE! Their specialty is their grilled and smoked meats. It is great bbq packed with unique flavors inspired by Romania. It was a quiet Sunday around 3 PM, and we were the only patrons in sight. Checking Yelp beforehand had been a bit of a letdown, as their menu featured items they no longer offer. No links were available either. We ordered half a pound of pulled pork, half a pound of brisket, and four pieces of cornbread--all priced reasonably. Their tap selection turned out to be decent. The Cali Squeeze Blood Orange was a standout, and they also seemed to carry Firestone Walker products, including 805. The staff were friendly and responsive, which was refreshing. While the brisket had cooled by the time we got home, it was still tender and flavorful--just like the pulled pork. The real surprise? The chimichurri that accompanied the brisket--an unexpected and delightful touch. Overall, I'd rate the experience as average. While it's clear they've got potential, a bit more effort could turn Wholly Smokes into a go-to spot. Leaning in on those small details would really elevate the experience.

My review is based on the food truck. It was my son's birthday. He was allowed to chose anything he wanted for dinner. Any price point... anything. Luckily, he remembered the post that I shared. He wanted to go here. Well, buckle up kids, we are going on a field trip! We left work/schools early and took a drive to Compton. When our navigation said we had arrived it suggested we park in the lot across from the library. Ok. There directly in front of the library was the food truck. There was a small line, so that was ideal. Not a long wait. My other smaller human and i went to wash their hands in the library. When i came out he had ordered the hungry man or something. It was more than enough for us. The oxtail was good. The ribs were good. The chicken was good. The cornbread was yummy. Just not over the moon for the greens... and i loooove collard greens. But that's ok. We went for the meats. They were out of the dinosaur ribs, so maybe if we go early enough next time, we can try those. We took it across the street to the park and ate and that was enough time for the small one to also play to get energy out before we headed home. There's two lines: one for alcohol and one for ordering food. Our order was ready before we even sat down. They have a LOT of seating and water stations all around. Most BBQ places have a few picnic tables but this place is a freaking sanctuary. Seating is all over and scattered on the patio deck, in the play tents, next to the community garden so you can get that fresh nature smell. And little sheds for pop ups. WHAT. They have people coming by cleaning regularly so it always looks pristine. I honestly can't stop talking about this place.
